Re: [Audyssey] Inquirie on Inspector Cindy mystery games.
Hi Paulette. Gamebooks are interactive stories where you progress through by aking choices about what happens. so for instance you might read a description of a room with two doors coming out of it, and be told "to enter the right door turn to page 32, and the left door page 55" Most also have some sort of stats or dice combat along with them to enhance things as well. originally they were! text, but obviously now they can be done on computer with html etc. Though the 7-128 games aren't strictly speaking gamebooks, their interface, choosing through sections of text ie questions to ask is a lot like hw gamebooks work, which is why they're catagorized in that genre. for more information see http://audiogames.net/page.php?pagefile=Genres which has a full explanation of all the game genres on audiogames.net. Hi, I've checked all this out, just to be sure I look at how the person's name is spelled and if I'm having trouble typing I'll copy and paste from the chat log so I get it exactly right. Thanks. -- From: "Richard Sherman" Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2012 11:14 PM To: "Gamers Discussion list" Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Whispering in Swamp Hi, the reasons why your whisper might not work: 1. The person is not online at that specific time. The game should say person not found. 2. You misspell the person's name. Punctuation and capitals are important. The game should say person not found. 3. the person's name has a space in it. Put a underline, that is shift dash, in place of the space. Otherwise the game should say person not found. 4. There must be a space before and after the person's name. You cannot follow the name with any punctuation. Otherwise the game should say person not found or you may end up posting a public message. Re: [Audyssey] Whispering in Swamp
Hi, I use Jaws and the same thing happens with Jaws and Sappi. I'm also using the chat log to get the names of players spelled properly. Scott sent me an email with a test line which I copied and pasted, and that seemed to work, but the w seems to be the problem I think for some reason. -- From: "Richard Sherman" Sent: Wednesday, May 09, 2012 12:27 AM To: "Gamers Discussion list" Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Whispering in Swamp Hi Scott and Lori, Some things to ask to help track down the problem. Lori, What screen reader are you using? Lori, If you are using another screen reader than SAPI, have you tried changing to that and see if it makes a difference? Lori, do you receive whispers ok? Or are they also not working properly? Also, from what are you copying from? Notepad? the chat log? And since the first 3 characters are a slash, a w, and a space, it is quite puzzling. A very strange one indeed. I was online at the same time as her earlier so we tried a few things out, and I'm no closer to understanding. The client seems to be missing out random characters at the start of her messages. In the time we experimented earlier, I saw it drop a mixtures of slashes, w's and spaces when the messages were delivered at my end, even though the line looked fine before she sent it. It always seems to be happening within the first 3 characters, and doesn't happen consistently. Sometimes it'd work, sometimes it wouldn't. We tried copy and paste too, just to remove the possibility of typos... same result... sometimes worked, other times dropped characters. Aprone, is that even possible? Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Warning Another good book on Audible
Hi Thomas, Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed explanation. Paulette -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Thomas Ward Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2012 3:58 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Warning Another good book on Audible Hi Paulette, According to our charter the purpose of the Audyssey list is the discussion of games that are made accessible either through accident or design. This may include but is not limited to braille board games, braille card games, hand held games like BopIt, and of course any computer games that a blind person can reasonably play independent of sighted help. More recently we've allowed and added the development of accessible games to our charter as there have been a number of tools like Audio Game Maker, BGT, etc created in recent years for designing accessible games for the blind. Thus it falls under our charter because its related to accessible games for the blind. The reason why the books you are talking about are off topic is that they are essentially just books about games, but aren't actually games themselves. Nor are they related to existing accessible games. Therefore we, the moderators, consider them to be outside of our purview to discuss accessible gaming. It would be different if the book, story, etc was a piece of fan fiction related to an existing game. In a case like that it might be allowed, but would have to be related to a specific accessible game. It couldn't be just any story about gaming in general. For example, there is a book called Kilobite about a couple of disabled people who end up getting trapped inside a virtual reality game. While you could argue its about gaming, it deals with accessibility issues, etc in the end its still mainly just a story. It has no connection to an existing accessible game, or even an accessible game in development. We feel rather than discussing it on Audyssey, which has very specific rules of what is on and off topic, you would be better served talking about books on one of the several book sharing lists for the blind. As far as who sent the Dream Park books I wasn't paying attention and deleted the posts in question. Your best bet would be to go to http://www.audyssey.org and look at the list archives to see who sent what. Cheers! [Audyssey] Fwd: using a bluetooth keyboard to play stem stumper
Hi all. I thought I'd pass this along in case others play this game. Note that I don't have more information as I am just forwarding the message. Original Message Subject: using a bluetooth keyboard to play stem stumper Date: Sun, 06 May 2012 20:01:39 +0100 From: alex wallis Reply-To: viph...@googlegroups.com To: viph...@googlegroups.com Hi list, I just bought stem stumper for a bit of light entertainment, and just found something interesting I thought I would share. I found that you can play it with a bluetooth keyboard, using the right and left arrow keys, and a combination of up and down arrows pressed together to select objects. I have found this is a much better way of playing for me than using the touch screen, it actually helps me navigate around much better, and is particularly useful for targeting with the slingshots. The nice thing I also found, is that you seem to be able to adjust your aim when lining the shots up, so lets say you go a stump two far and realize that you don't have to destroy one then you can press the left arrow to go back a space. I hope someone finds the above useful, just thought I would share. Alex. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Re: [Audyssey] Whispering in Swamp
Hi Scott and Lori, Some things to ask to help track down the problem. Shermanator - Original Message - From: "Scott Chesworth" Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2012 4:52 PM All good advice chaps, but honestly, there's something weird happening for Lori that's beyond user error. HI, Pretty sure that if aprone is there, you can whisper to him. Even if he is not in the list of people, if he is logged into the server on his side you can. IF not, then no. Out of interest Chris, would the standard sounds serve you any better if they were a little quieter? I think what's confusing too is jaws reads out your line as you saying it, then adds in the whisper afterwards, rather than just saying you whisper. I'm not sure what my computer thinks it's doing, I just tried to change the chat key in the config file to l, I did everything correctly and though the key works fine, my right mouse button now moves my radio channels up and the rest of the radio bottons do nothing. Re: [Audyssey] Problem with buildings in swamp
I would like to suggest an alternate radar sound. I find the current one a bit intrusive. I liked the general sound in Austen's mod, but the sound for half walls was very loud and got in the way of using them. His clear and barrier sounds were less obtrusive, though it also sounded like you only got three chirps per pass some of the time. I'd like beeps that are quiet and only change in pitch to indicate clear vs. barrier vs. half wall. Re: [Audyssey] Ambience in Swamp
There are areas that would make sense to have a swamp ambience, northern and western ends of map 1 and south side east of broadway, and the northeastern part of map 2. I'm not sure how much help this would be as the ambient noise should be the sort of non-specific insect/bird/wind noise that wouldn't act as much of a navigation aid. I'm not against the idea, I think it would add some atmosphere and not really negatively impact combat except perhaps at long range. Well usually, if the person you're trying to whisper at isn't online or you spell the username wrong, you'll get a message saying that they can't be found. Hi Ron, Well, I certainly have no idea why you have problems with that right stick, but the best place to start looking for joysticks, gamepads, etc is Amazon. Not only can you purchase them from there you'll be able to read helpful reviews from satisfied and dissatisfied customers that may help you decide what to buy and try. Although, I think your biggest problem is finding 64-bit compatible drivers and software. I've done some googling and apparently good 64-bit compatible drivers are still difficult to find for older joysticks and gamepads which is obviously going to limit your search to the latest and greatest models. While Windows 7 includes an extensive generic driver database for joysticks, gamepads, racing wheels, and alike they don't include support for extra features like force feedback and perhaps some special buttons etc. For some people that might be fine, but again it depends on what features etc you are looking for here. Re: [Audyssey] Help getting Draconesentertainment games to run.
Hi, Well, keep in mind here that at the time the Visual Basic 6 libraries were written 64-bit didn't exist so all the Visual Basic components are 32-bit only to begin with. So worrying about 32-bit vs 64-bit isn't an issue here. Its merely an issue of copying the Visual Basic libraries to c:\Windows\system32 and then registering them with regsvr32. Obviously Inno Settup can do this. Cheers! On 5/8/2012 12:28 PM, Pitermach wrote: that does sound like a good idea, providing you can properly identify x86 and x64 and register the dll's. But at the same time, if your time is short, it can be the dealbreaker on you having enough time to win the game. Same with the stairs. They can be a blessing in that if the prior level wasn't too bad, you can go back to it, yet there may be times you don't want to repeat a level. I remember once I was like on level 11 and I got stairs. I took them and got bumped to level 10 which was a scroll er. I died there and got bumped to level 9 and then got stairs there and took them and went down yet another level. That time my score on normal was over 3 million. -- Raul A. Re: [Audyssey] Can I use games for the I-pad on my computer?
Hi Keith, No you can't. Games for iOS devices are written in Object C which is specific to Mac OS and iOS, and obviously was designed for a completely different platform. There are no emulators out there for iOS or Mac OS software, and running either one of those in a virtual machine on a PC is in violation of the end user license agreement. So PC users aren't able to get access to software developed for Apple devices and so on. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Is there something out there better than the stupid Logitech f510?
Re: [Audyssey] [Swamp] Crate Searching Guide
Hmmm, thought I may as well post my large warehouse experience and how I get crates: The following seems to work ratherr well (though *not* always) Starting from the truck, go west to near the stairs, and turn north to quality control. Check in there by moving to the crates due west of the entrance. Turn around and head back out the door, and turn north or northeast. Once you reach the north wall of the warehouse turn east to check by the window (it may be safer to stay near the crates rather than the window during the later portions of missions, and you won't miss any crates through this). At the electrical sound turn south (or slightly southeast) to check past the truck and broken doors. Don't go to close to the metal surface unless your going to drop off crates, as it can get ugly over there. Continue south to the catwalk and turn west until you hear main floor announced. From here, turn southeast, and go until you can hear the fire sound to your right. Turn south here and check the south dock area. It may help to head east to the loading dock, but you don't need to unless it's clear of zombies. Once you've checked south dock, head over to the fire soun, and turn north until your on the concrete again. From here, turn west and head along to the wall. What your doing here is checking in those shelves south of the repackaging entrance, you may want to face south and use a scoped winchester for this. Note that if you can here zombies ahead when you make that west turn, your too far north. You should hit the wall south of the repackaging entrance when your done with the shelves. Once you've checked in there, turn northeast so you can get over to the stairway near repackaging. Turn west up that, and then turn north once you hit the metal second floor. Run along the crates (or the window if it's not broken) and then turn east down the other flight of stairs. This will put you back at the truck if you go in a straight line from the stairs. Note that I've entirely skipped the repackaging center. This is because it's the main place where zombies like to hang out, and I only go in there if I absolutely have to. In those cases, I'll head over to the crates directly west of the doorway. This gives me a chance to back out if it's loaded with zombies in there, and does let you cover a fair bit of the room. Unfortunately, there are a few loading spots it doesn't cover, and for those you'll just have to clear the zombies. Note that they really like that first window on the south side of the room. While it certainly doesn't take all of them, you may want to use the northern side as a staging point for your attack unless that window is also broken. Also, I find that many of the crates like to load in the south dock area, or near quality control. Original Message - From: "Kai" Below is reposted a topic on the Audio Games forums. Hope you find it useful and informative. *** The only viable method of crate hunting in the big warehouse is to check everywhere. If you have a team of at least 2 players, divide up your team, with some of your team searching the northern section while others search the southern portion, with a couple freelance roamers that check the areas in between (assuming you've 3 or more team members). If you're running the small warehouse, there is a distinct pattern you can check. S P O I L E R S P A C E Head south from the truck to 87, 74. From here, you're at a 4-way intersection, with two search patterns to choose from. Pattern 1: A. turn right (West) and run to 44, 47 (Storage). You'll hear equipment right next to you. B. Turn south and run to 44, 74 (Parts Inspection). You'll need to be quick and snappy here, since this room can get quite busy once the window breaks. C. Turn left (East) and run to 104, 74. Depending on which doors have broken, this area can become very dangerous. D. Turn left (North) and run to 104, 47. You'll hear equipment right next to you. E. Turn left (West) and run to 44, 47, closing the rectangular pattern. Pattern 2: A. turn left (East) and run to 104, 47. You'll hear equipment right next to you. B. Turn south and run to 104, 74. Depending on which doors have broken, this area can become very dangerous. C. Turn right (West) and run to 44, 74. Turn right (East) and run to 104, 47, closing the rectangular pattern. These patterns won't guarantee you'll hear every crate, but it does give you the maximum spatial exposure, which means you'll hear a good majority of them. You'll still need to check offshoots, and you'll definitely run into danger zones, but if you're quick and snappy, thigns should go fairly smoothly. I recommand running the search pattern in offline mode for practice, so you can familiarize yourse

Re: [Audyssey] Pipe 2 Blast Chamber for 5/7/12
True enough, I suppose I'm too used to point scoring in old mainstream arcade games where there is a multiplyer bonus on your score for each level you finish without losing a life, which you then lose when you die, or even in some really extreme games, when you get hit. I actually wish bsc had designed this into pipe and troopanum sometimes, sinse then it'd mean you got more points by doing well than strategically dying. Beware the grue! what about ticks. or what about steps. or echoed or not clicks or something. beeps in a high freq would probably be a problem but low ones may not. I've just had a tinker with it in buildings I'm not particularly familiar with yet on map 2, and with the current sounds being so subtle, I'm not surprised that she's not picking up on them. Kai, any mileage in the idea of updating In.wav and Out.wav to something less subtle? I've done no research at all to support this, but would guess that most of the people using the building helper are going to be new players, so something easier to distinguish from background ambience and zombie footsteps in the distance would probably be a big help to them. I'm not sure what the building helper is supposed to do, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I only know that once in a building I find it very hard to get back out again, even with the radars, I'm also struggling to find entrences into other buildings, again because of being told to go a certain direction and hitting walls instead. It seems a waste of time trying to navigate in that way, especially when you're on the listen for zombies and quest items. Would a better idea not be to have quiet ambience for each section, ie a soft beeping for checkout section and a russel for bread or something? Maybe someone could suggest a way to make buildings easier to get around, it just seems impossible at the moment, trying to navigate fauls directions and deal with attacks at the same time. Re: [Audyssey] Pipe 2 Blast Chamber for 5/7/12
I think that perhaps Justin added the ability to go back a level if you die on scrollers as a way to get more points if you have enough time. -- Raul A. Re: [Audyssey] Help getting Draconesentertainment games to run.
Well I'd be interested in an installer that would install all the old runtimes. I'd even use it on systems I was maintaining. I have right now as part of my various jobs a rather large upgrade of a home server for my uncle. This old box hasn't got backed up in ages, but will eventually be done. however I'd like in all honesty to make things as easy as I can. Most stuff from 2005 up of say visual c and the other stuff has actual functionality for installers and works well. The fact you don't need anything bar the dotnet4 package does help. But any older stuff may or may not work. though I have not done this for all the systems this box will have some older games run on them. I plan to use the swamp folder on my drive to do the transfer of what is needed however I'd like to have an installer that would load all old files into the right place with possibly autodetection of architecture or have seperate installs for each. At 11:37 a.m. 6/05/2012 -0600, you wrote: HI Thomas, If it is not too much trouble, an installer like the one you describe would be greatly apreciated. Pleas make it happen #1. LOL. Shermanator - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2012 10:42 AM Hi Dark, It wouldn't hurt. A lot of people run out and buy new Windows 7 machines assuming their older games will work out of the box as they did on XP only to find that several older libraries such as those for Visual Basic 6 etc were deprecated and removed. Then, those libraries have to be installed using a third-party installer such as Winkit to restore functionality to said older games. So the more we can do to document this fact the more often people can get up and running without a huge hassle. Speaking of installing libraries I'm wondering if perhaps I shouldn't just create a compatibility pack containing the VB 6 libraries, missing DirectX 8 components, etc so we wouldn't have to install Winkit. Installing Winkit is fine, but if someone doesn't want the Kitchens Inc game menu, Life, and other stuff in that package mine could just be a barebones package for Windows 7 users who need this stuff for the GMA Games, Kitchens Inc games, Draconis games, whatever. Re: [Audyssey] zomby bug is still there in swamp 2.03
Thanks sherminator, yeah this tells you I am as green as they come. Gees I hope a senario like swamp doesn't happen in real life I'd be frecking useless. The guard on map 1 works just like it is supposed to. However, the guard on map 2 seems to disappear occasionally. Usually right after coming back from a mission. Then all of a sudden it will start working and speaking. begin quote. I have also seen zombies at the entrance or close to in safe zones kept at bay by the players online. end quote. The reason there are usually a few zombies by the entrance to the safe zone is that so many make a lot of noise there. Zombies are attracted to the noise, so it only makes sense. Many times I have popped my head out of the safe zone, shot those close enough I could hear then, and then back into the safe zone to save my stats. begin quote. I think even in custom mode there should be a guard clearing zombies from the doors of safe zones as a piston doesn't cut it. and even if you can get out and arm your vulcan its just a pain to even clear it all before starting besides everyone in the place knows you are existing. I didn't want to mention the bug but since someone has I'll just blow my trumpet at it. end quote. If you are having trouble with zombies right outside the safe zone on map 1 in multi-player mode, then of course let Aprone know about it. If it is in the custom maps, then as it has been said there is no guard there. Just load your mp5 , put on the silencer, and walk out immediately and clear it out before they can walk in. Don't like the mp5, then load your m60. It loads faster plus you can move with it. Unlike the mini which takes longer to load and you barely can move while using it. Or, you can reduce the number of zombies. The online game has 150 at any time, So practice with that many then. A guard on custom maps is totally unnecessary. The custom maps are for practice, so practice there. You die, so what. You lose absolutely nothing. Just reload the map and do it again. HTH. Re: [Audyssey] trouble trying to get to the church in swamp
Hi. I guess I am just a chasual player, due to life I can only really put in about 30 mins a day or less. Maybe eventually I may get a time where I can put 6 or so hours in and actually handle things. At 10:16 a.m. 6/05/2012 -0600, you wrote: HI, shaun, I have put my answers below each of your concerns and questions. begin quote. hmmm I didn't think you could cross the creak at all without the bridge. Its why I haven't tried to cross at all! end quote. To practice getting to the church, go to the custom maps and choose multi1. Set the number of zombies to 0 and practice going across the creek at the shallow part and using the bridge. Need help with the bridge, use your beacon for it. Begin quote. I tried a couple times but to be honest I've never done well in swamp. I have got rep, found a few guns, but never kept them. I died a bit to. end quote. Practice makes better. If you really enjoy the game, practice on the custom maps for a bit before venturing to the online version. Any loot you find you should really consider keeping, except the chain saw. It has it's purposes, but not for me. Donate only if you really need the rep. Nice to have a back up just in case they break your weapon you are currently holding. If you donate an item, be sure to unload it first for extra rep. As for dying, it just happens to be the nature of the beast. It happens to all of us eventually. Begin quote. I have tried quests but always got stuck in buildings, and after quitting in frustration almost gave up because I was stuck in the kai mart. End quote. There again, practice the buildings off line on the custom maps with no zombies. That way you can get used to the buildings, and using your radar in them. The aisles in k mart run north south. There is a back door at 97x. I personally use it all the time. The beacon for k mart is for the front door. I too at first never liked it in there. But after many visits it now no longer bothers me. In fact, I can get in and out quite quickly. begin quote. I think the next version should have more character control. I would like to do a few things. 1. reset my char exp and rep if I was not doing so well and just restart or delete my char. end quote. Why would you want to put a lot of work into the game just to erase what you have done? Why not just build on that and go on? But if you absolutely want to start over, create a new character. Your old one will remain intact so if you want to ever go back to it then it will be there for you. begin quote. 2. control where I am in the game no matter where I start. Unrealistic I know but I'd like to place myself in the safe zone. Mainly because if I get frustrated I'd get stuck and restart still stuck in the game somewhere. End quote. That could lead to cheating. Can you imagine how many people would just give up, either by getting stuck or in a sticky situation and just press some kind of key to magically appear back at the safe zone. Where is the risk to reward feature in this? Let's say you go inside k mart to grab a fly, then you press some kind of key to magically appear at the safe zone so you don't have to find your way out or fight your way back to the safe zone? Oh yeah, that sounds fair. Plus, many games have a safe spot to save your game. So if you are not there, you cannot save. Exit outside the safe zone if you wish. But you risk not having your stuff saved and come back right in the middle of a swarm. Begin quote. 3. I'd like to have some sort of locker to store items that I would want. Ie gas and other ammo and equipment like scopes and the like when I find stuff for a weapon I don't have yet or if I find something I'd like to store it somewhere. end quote. This has been discussed before and shot down every time. There is enough loot out there that if you die with a scope but never found a Winchester, if you die you just find it again. A locker is so totally unnecessary. You can usually find enough supplies that you will have more than enough without having to horde it in a locker. If you have something you don't want or need, donate it. keep what you want. Got a scope, go find or buy a Winchester. begin quote. I'd like a command to save my char status, ie with what I have, etc, etc. And I would like to restore in the safe zone, Ok I'd probably lose a little rep for probably doing that but it would be better at least for new players or if I could control everything for my char. end quote. The key to save is the esc key. Of course this only saves if you are in the safe zone. And of course if you exit in the safe zone, then you will return in that exact spot in the safe zone. Easy enough. Hopefully this is coming across as helpful, not condescending. I really like the game as it is. If anyone is having trouble, write me off list or look me up in the game and ask me questions there. Always glad to help. I decided to track down a few zombies. zombies were right there while turning but when I turned to face them or in fact items there was nothing they were far away. While trying to handle a tyrent I ran out of ammo. I tried to reload, but either the game was being a beeper or the keyboard was locking. I managed to axe the tyrent to death but used all health kits. I had 10 points on my board. Run, run, run. Damn, a standard zombie appears. Hmmm he is close. How he is real close, time to kill and get more rep. Ofcause one chomp and I was lunch. I lost everything, had enough rep left to get more ammo for my glock 19 but it was all gone. Re: [Audyssey] all Kelly's fault
Hi, charles. That cue to turn voice over on and off must only be in the american version: it doesn't do it for me. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Charles Rivard Sent: 07 May 2012 22:10 To: audyssey gamers list Subject: [Audyssey] all Kelly's fault With the questions about Papa Sangre, I went ahead and got the game onto my iPhone. It does cue me when to turn Voice-Over on or off. My question is this: After playing part of the game, how can I save it and continue at a later time? I don't want to have to replay previous levels. Thanks. Oh, and the part about it all being Kelly's fault? That was a different way of thanking him for bringing the game back into the foreground. Ah, one more quick question: Does anyone know of podcasts about the game? Thanks. --- Be positive! Re: [Audyssey] Keyboard Alternative to swamp.
It's definitely user preference because it is the exact opposite for me. Using a mouse is fast and smooth and I feel awkward and clunky when I use my laptop's track pad. > I plaed with a mouse on my son's > computer a few times and honestly, it's much clunkier than > the track pad.
