Re: [Audyssey] off topic sendspace.

2015-07-06 Thread Scott Chesworth
I don't use XP or IE here, so can't guaranty this will work, but one
option might be to change the user agent of IE8. If you do this,
SendSpace will think you're visiting using the browser you've set your
user agent to, and will serve up their pages optimized for that
browser rather than IE8, so stuff might display oddly. There's not a
GUI option for this in IE8 so far as I could tell, so your two options
are either to modify it using Regedit, or use an addon. A quick Google
search turned up the following tutorial to grab a free addon, seemed
straight forward at a glance:

http://www.techmansworld.com/2012/09/how-to-change-your-user-agent-in-ie8.html

I'm sure you know this already, but a big site like SendSpace dropping
IE8 support is a clear sign that time is marching on, and it'd be
worth familiarizing yourself with a different browser even if you're
choosing to stick with XP as an OS.

Good luck

Scott

2015-07-06 Thread dark

Hi Greg.

Interesting, though other than with Alter I find Vipmud much more usable,
especially with sapi.

Please let me know how combat works, especially without need for scripting
sinse personally I would rather not have to reprogram a game's interface in
order to play if possible.

Hello,
I have just started playing this mud myself. The number one combatant
in the game is a blind individual. His name in game is Agarwain. If
you go to www.meetingplace.net you can find a thread on there with
some scripts for Mush client to help a bit. It has some sounds and the

I like Avalon a lot. I’ve not known of any screen reader specific
settings. Navigating the areas can be difficult, since the map is not
accessible, but if you keep a file of directions to certain places,
that

works well.

There are a wide variety of professions to choose from. It’s pretty RP

Re: [Audyssey] Cyber assault mud

2015-07-06 Thread dark

Hi John.

Ah, I sort of assume that with the number of Ca players on this list an the
fact that announcements were made about the mud's events and so on there
was more by way of actual adaptation, eg, removal of ascii art, combat
fixes, easy mapping commands etc.

Unfortunately that does mean I can't give the mud a page on audiogames.net,
sinse the site db just exists for muds with some sort of in built access
changes, this is also why wayfare1444 hasn't got a page.

Btw, this isn't to say "people shouldn't play it" or anything stupid like
that, just that audiogames.net isn't the mud connector, :D.

All the best,

Dark.

Hello,
You can set your prompt to %n which will make it not appear. You can
then use commands like hp, cp and mv to get your hit points, psi
points and movement points. You can also use commands like units to
get the amount of currency you have. Those are the main things I know
about. Someone with more experience in the mud might have others.

My personal recommendation is to gag out any line of text you don't feel
like seeing.
Without knowing your client there's not much more specific advice I can give
you.
I will say though, that I've gagged a couple hundred lines - ranging from
ascii art to visual separation bars to spammy attack miss sends.
If you've got more experience with your client, you can probably trim some
of the messages so you only see the important bits (damage amounts only,
instead of the whole sentence, for example).
There's a monkey term client specifically made for CA, just as mush-z is for
Alter aeon, but I've no personal experience with it.

Re: [Audyssey] Does anyone play Avalon mud?

2015-07-06 Thread dark
Fare enough, though I'd be interested to know about combat sinse they do
claime to have blind players who engage in it but don't have any infomation
about this at all, and as I said the system id strike me as an interesting
one and not the usual hacknslash, it's just as with most muds a question of
the speed of text reading.

Sometimes I actually wish muds could stop with the real time combat, or at
least slow the rounds downto give people time to read the text, which I know
is sort of against the point of muds but you know what i mean :D.

Beware the grue!

I’m not sure about combat. I chose to become a druid, which is a
nonviolent guild. I can’t even pick up a weapon.

I like Avalon a lot. I’ve not known of any screen reader specific
settings. Navigating the areas can be difficult, since the map is not
accessible, but if you keep a file of directions to certain places, that
works well.

There are a wide variety of professions to choose from. It’s pretty RP
intensive. Questing is a big part of the MUD, as it’s one major way to
gain experience.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi.

I've been investigating muds that need to have db entries (I just put
one up for flux world today), ie, muds that offer some sort of screen
reader mode with low spam, ascii map alternatives etc, plus of course
dipping my toe into muds is always fun.

One game I keep seeingkicking around is Avalon mud.

it has some great writeups that actually sound my sort of thing, lots
of exploring and a combat system that sounds very different indeed,
however I do wonder about some things, and also while someone was on
the audiogames.net forum last year he was a little none specific if the
game had any adaptations in and of itself for screen readers, indeed
the only mention I can see of anything screen reader related on site is
a listing for mushclient as a compatible client for Jaws.
So, does the game have some screen reader settings? and also, if anyone
is playing, what is it like?

I particualrly am interested sinse the game is at least semi
commercial. That is new players start free, but at some point after
completing novice training a newbie has to either get sponsorship from
either an existing in game organization, such as a city or guild (which
apparently most do), or pay a monthly fee of 7.50 usd a month.

So, what is the game like?

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Cyber assault mud

Hi Greg.

I did see the hp and cp commands, but when I tried to set my prompt off it
didn't seem to work, which is a pest because the combat timer seems very
fast in the game.

I'm actually surprised with all the interest people have shown in the mud
there isn't a screen reader page on the cyber assault wiki or similar.
