Re: [Audyssey] donaate or not? What do you need?
Hi again Claudio. As Thomas has pointed out before. The blind game market is sadly small in retrospect. As far as making games for Cimbian, Windows Mobile and Windows Smart phones. You are taking a lot to chew on, and this would not be wise for a company start up projections. I know on the Windows Smart Phone side, most phones only have 50 meg storage with out a flash card, and most of that is used to keep programs in memory while the phone on, so it would be a hard thing to do to make a game that is worth wild to buy for a cell phone, which will change some times soon, as Phones become more and more like a laptop these days. Also not to mention so many configuration on phone keys it would be a hard thing to make a game that would play smoothly with some only have a numb keypad and others with a querty keyboard. Mac, and Linux, are going to be even harder, as I'm guessing 1 percent of blind or VI people even use one. And even if they do, I'm betting they have a Standard PC next to them when they can't do what they need with the other computer. As every one on this list as said before, you have yet to come out with a game or some sort of project that shows that you are able to do as what your company has planned. I would suggest coming out with games that are simple, and yet have not came out for the blind, and work your way up. That way you gain Knowledge, Collections of resources, and above all else Customers who know you are a company or person that is able to deliver the product as promise. I write Stories, Articals, and soon to be publish book. I never once asked for donations or jump in and fork out huge amount of money to publish my own book. I started off small, let people see whom I am, and what I can come out with. Yet, I only do writing as a hobby, not a job, and only for fun. I have been given a chance to publish my first Book, simply because I've was contacted by a publisher, who was willing on funding my hobby. I be honest, I started out my own Small Engine Business a few years ago. Did I make lots of money, no. I've went into the red zone for nearly 2 years, and finally got out of the zone just sticking it out. Sure I got help from the state and so forth, I didn't make money for over 2 years. Now, I was stressed out and grumpy and hated even opening my door every morning, but I now enjoy it, since I have a stable customer base and financial peace knowing I am no longer struggling. Same goes with my other jobs I do for a living. Peace. Re: [Audyssey] RPG Audio Game
Hell yea, about time somebody did a audio RPg. I can't wait to see what you have done so far, as I'm a big RPG Fan of Final Fantasy and other ones. Peace. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jason Allen Sent: Saturday, April 05, 2008 5:37 AM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] RPG Audio Game Hi everyone, I'm new to this list. Dark at the audiogames.net forums recommended that I post the details of my project here. I'm currently programming an audio RPG game sort of a cross between a rouge-like (a genre I love) and Final Fantasy. So far it creates random dungeons with twisty halls and rooms, allows you to navigate the dungeon with audio, and offers preliminary combat, inventory, and equipment. The rogue-like elements are random dungeons, items, and battles. It's similar to Final Fantasy in combat: which is carried out in real time. My vision for this game is grand. Absolutely huge. But I'm starting small. I'm hoping to have a basic playable version that I can build on with feedback from gamers. I've been posting my progress regularly and I feel I've come a long way in a short time. I have a few major milestones left to code, but I want to have a small basic shell out soon. The devil is always in the details and I've been holed up battling annoying audio menu problems the last 2 days. I think I've coded them into oblivion today finally. [Audyssey] Pokes head up and looks around. . . Testing. . .
A tall figure walks into a open clearing that was located in the woods, where people gather to talk about secrets and unusual games. Slightly confused at the lack of sounds. He slowly reaches down his pant pocket brushing aside the long pure white trench coat to allow his hand into the pocket. Slowly he pulls out a square device that is silver in shape, and flips a switch on the side, causing a audible sound of chimes as he had evidently turned on the device. He glances up and tilts his head as he thought he heard a sound, and shrugged it away, and lightly taps some buttons on the device causing unusually jabbering sounds to come from it. In only a few moments, the device announces, No present life signs in the current present of specified parameters. He shakes his head, and switches the device off, a soft descending chime could be heard, as he place the device back into his pocket, and stands still for a moment, as the wind gusted around him, causing his white trench coat to blow in the wind, as he knelt and morphed into a pure white wolf, and darted off into the nearest patches of woods. Life is short, don't let the unusual things pass you by. Re: [Audyssey] USA game web site?
Hi Thomas, if it just a simple fact of a few key strokes to convert it to Smart phone than I would do it, as I have a Smart phone with Java, and there are a ton of us in the Mobile Speak Community that would love to have games to play. Maybe charge for a Smart Phone version. And see how it goes. Wouldn't be much diff from pc to Smart phone version, as move back and forth and up and down and jump. While the ones with the keyboard could do more. Re: [Audyssey] USA game web site?
Oh wow, Java format? Would that mean it would be able to run on my New Smart phone then? That would be great. . . Hi Kuvvosh, Well, most of the web site is back up and running, but there are a couple of areas I haven't completed yet. I am also working on the developer center http://developers.usagames.us which has the basic wiki framework setup, a few pages started, but I have been far too busy to really work on the web site or the games the last few days. As far as MOTA Beta 2 goes it is going to have a lot of upgrades though it will still be a side-scroller. I am actually still in the planning and designing faze, and haven't gotten into the core programming state yet. One thing I would really really like to do is convert the Montezuma's Return engine into pure Java so that Beta 2 would run independant of ..NET and be able to run cross platform. Though, I have to see how much work will be involved in the conversion. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. So true Thomas. I own a business my self. Yet, I don't even make enough to worry about my benafits. Also, I'm a Story Writer as well. Right now just working my way up on becoming known, and hope to be pick up by a publisher, which I've been offered as of late. I know my emails and such seems not in correct English and so forth, as I don't really put much effort into correctness lol. Any way. Dameon ace fire seems a good game from Demo, yet, I know one market that has yet to be even touched in the blind gaming world is a Major Role Playing game. There isn't one other than the web based one, which kind of boring and so forth. Last I heard Che was in the planning stages of a game like this, yet I've not seen any news on the matter rather it's in the works now or still on paper. I was looking into relearning programming, yet I just don't have much help and picking it back up. So I kind of dropped the programming world. I have several story lines for RPGs that were some what in the works for a game, but oh well. I proposed a game to Dameon that he might want to look into making yet, not sure if it can be done in VB 6.0 Kuvvosh -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Thomas Ward Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 2:16 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] X-Sight news Hello Damien, Quote Due to some information I received concerning X-Sight Interactive during a meeting with a college financial and business advisor, X-Sight may need to close, at least temporarily, until we can create more software that can be sold to make enough money... End quote Well, first thing you really need to understand is there really is not a lot of money to be made from selling accessible games. Some games sell well because they are really good, in high demand, and some games don't sell many copies at all. If you are trying to make a living off of making accessible games it is not going to happen with the small market we have. If you want to make a little extra money for a project then it is possible, but keep in mind the government is going to make sure to take it's cut, and you will be left with the remainder of what they didn't take. So always see the money from making games as extra cash not a living. Quote Currently, I am spending more money than I am earning, and certainly I am earning a lot less than my current disability benefits offer me. End quote That is an unacceptable situation in my opinion. If you are getting behind, making less than you could be making, then you need to stop and reexamine the situation, and find a way to balance your budget. If you are spending more to make games then you are earning then you need to stop spending until you have the cash to buy new sounds, music, etc for your games. The main priorities in your life should be your living expenses and college expenses. Anything left over can be spend on making games for sell or for free. However, living expenses and college expenses must come first. Quote The laws of my country state that if I am getting an income, I am no longer entitled to my benefits and I will indeed have to start paying taxes. Additionally, if I am self-employed, which is basically what I am, I would have to register as an official business which would cost more money to open up additional accounts and make it legal. End quote Unfortunately, this is all too true. Any small or large company should become incorperated, and have themselves recognized legally with the IRS as a tax entity. Depending on what type of incorperation you choose determines how your company is taxed, and how you will be taxed. The minute you begin taking in income for X-Sight SSI will take away a dollar for every two dollars you earn. Unfortunately, as I have found out your incomes will fluctuate when you are self-employed and it is a huge roller coaster with the SSI office which wants to be informed everytime your income changes. Well, it is changing daily. In December you might make $1200 but in January $100. Social security will try and balance it out, but sometimes you might end up owing SSI money do to some over payment or they will under pay you because your income is so unstable. The Social Security office is very anal when it comes to figuring out what they owe you, and unless you are good with keeping financial records it is a good idea to watchout because Social Security is not aposed to putting the screws to you if they believe you have made more than you actually did. Quote I am still open to suggestions for the time being, even if the majority's decision means just me developing freeware with minimum purchases on my part, then that's what I'll do, but that also means less advanced features in my software. End quote Honestly designing freeware games for now is your best option. Unless you have some sort of stable income where you can live independant from SSI

Well I not going to start a flame war, but. I'm talking about Standard Web Server setup with all security. The government and military use a Network infostructor setup, and they do got Windows and sometimes Mac in that network for a good reason. Linux is so open source it's not hard to figure out how to hack. And besides It's mainly the fact that Government and Military won't say they got hacked. It wouldn't flow in the news good. Also they hire people to hack there system so they can fix any problems and so forth big diff. I'm just saying windows is more secured out of the box the the other OS. That's all I'm going to say on this matter. Hi Kuvvosh, I am sorry but I have to disagree with you on this point. In my years of experience with operating systems FreeBSD and Linux have been far more secure than MS Windows every time. Yes, Linux has been cracked before, but usually it falls under misconfigured security or down right poor password management. In Shane's case his server had a week password on the root acount, and that is how it was highjacked. Over the years I discovered something about your average computer user. Many do not change the default password they were given by their college or ISP, and the other half give their password something easy to guess like the name of their dog, their boy friend's first name, their favorite music artest, etc. For example, I was doing a simple security test on my in-laws computer. I knew they are the very religious types so on a whim I tried Jesus as the password first. Bingo I was in the computer with full admin rights on the first try. It sounds stupid, but this is exactly how easy some people make hacking and cracking. Kuvvosh wrote: You said Linux? Oh my, 5 minute hack is simple to do on a Linux system. . . Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Return Progress Report.
Sounds like Faxanadue game on NES, or Millions Castle type game. But, you talking about a major game tho. Hi Richard and all, Well, one of the cool things about replacing skulls with armed skeleton warriors could be the game could be mor combat oriented. Perhaps Angela would have to find bows and arrows, whips, swords, and other sorts of weapons around the temple to kill undead warriors with. As it stands now you need to find a sword for every monster. We all would agree that is pretty unrealistic. Perhaps one sword for the entire game, or a series of different types of swords. A long sword would have greater range than a short sword, but a whip would have good range but do less damage. If you look at these sorts of elements maybe this is good that this has happened. You know? Richard sherman wrote: Hi Thom, I am glad that this situation has been resolved. I like the title of Angela's Quest. I do have one thing that is puzzling myself. In the game, we would jump over the rolling skulls. but it seems likely that we would be able to jump over a sword wielding skeleton. I don't have a better replacement for the skulls, but a skeleton just doesn't seem to fit also. That is my only concern at this time. Re: [Audyssey] Important Montezuma's Return announcement
I'm sorry to say, But the game that Thomas is making can't really be a copy right issue, as far, as if he using public domain sounds and the fact he is not using any graphical parts of the original game. I'm sure all the levels are not even anywhere near the real game. Heck the coding of the game is probley so far off from the original as well. I really think the person that claiming copy right issue is stupid. Just my two cents. It is just a question of how the final product will be, and under what name it will be sold under. Instead of bouncing and rolling skulls maybe I can use sword wielding skelitons. Perhaps I can add this or that to the game or game levels that will make it different from the way it was intended originally. Darren Harris wrote: It's got nothing to do with blind people. I like the accessible games and the like but you can't call a fowl play card if someone in the end pulls you up on it. This goes right back to the point we were talking about the other day ref piracy and copywrites. I do hope that thomas can complete his game though because I like what I have read so far with regards to content. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] piracy of judgment day
Well I don't crack, but I do have a prob with some Activation of software. I do a lot of Beta testing and as such I reformat my computer almost ever month as well if not more. So I know Dev's get tired of seing a new key and have to send another one, and probley thinking I'm cracking or something. So I've kind of just gave up on the games I've bought that required activation at the moment. I got 4 games that need activation and right now they sitting on a server till I feel that I can keep a system from being formatted all the t ime from beta testing. Matter of Fact, I just got a new laptop that I don't put beta software on, and Might throw them on there and activate them there. Also if you format your computer a lot, might want to consider on a Back-up Imaging system, that's what I'm using now to restore without having to lose safed info and stuff. [Audyssey] VB 6.0
I'm wanting to start back into programming, yet it's been years since I've played around with VB. Now since I went blind, VB looks so much different, and I kind of lost on how to go about making my class and make it where it's able to be used by either a SAPI or a screen reader. Is there any lesion on how to creat the main menu of a game? Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] montazoomas return and stfc both won't start
I noticed on a lot of new programs that if you install them, if you don't meet the requirements it will not install until you do, and some even install the stuff for you before the main program install. Why not just compile the game with the DX and .Net and have them install before the game so that way no one can't say it won't install? Just a Thought. And Yes I know the installer would be bigger, but oh well. Well, how about implement it where it looks to see if the required files are there, and if not, ask if you would like to download the required files and it'll pull them off the net for you and install them in the correct order? A game like Montezuma's Return, which is 29 MB, would instantly become a 139 MB download. That uses more server drive space, more bandwidth, and would be difficult for those on dialup to download. I guess what gets me about this entire thing is including it with every game would be unnecessary if people would just read the documentation first That is all that is required.. Though, I guess developers have to make up for others inability to do the obvious. Uhm, I hate to say this, but to make Sim City even remotely playiable by the blind would be one hell of a task. I've played all of the Sim City games before I went blind. And I just don't see it being done for the blind, Unless, you do it some what like Sound RTS, but to set up the square system and then not to mention to place drain pipes, Power lines, and leveling the ground so you can build onto it would be one heck of a task to program. But, hey if somebody wants to tackle such a task I'm all for them, just don't ever seeing it happen. Re: [Audyssey] Acefire now ready for preorder!
Yea, true, and I should have kept my mouth shut lol. Sorry for any inconvenience. Just was odd seeing a post of this game and nothing to back it up. Kind of was due to the site being updated at same time I was checking it out, and didn't find any info on about the game. And seeing that the site was all screwy kind of thrown up a red flag. But, any ways, I did read the Specs of the game, and it look promising, just need a lot more features to really make it worth wild. Hence why I suggested earlier for armor, weapon, more interaction, and maybe hide and seek, find the ship somewhere on your computer type deal and destroy the enemy lol. Peace. There are a few steps involved getting the setup going with speech, but it is easy after you do it the first time or have someone walk you through the setup once. [Audyssey] How to get High scores on pinball.
Maybe I should have reported this, but, never have since I got the pinball game and add-on and got the scores in less then a day. All I did was play the games a bit, and noticed a bug in every table that is so easy to do over and over again, Prob is, when you hit the area on the table, the ball will keep going and going and going I had one went for a solid hour before it got unjammed. I figured it was part of the game and kept on hitting those areas. Ever since I got the high scores on a lot of the tables I quit playing the game all together. Right now I got the new version installed on a new system, thinking it might have been due to a bug in the last version or the machine I was running it on. Well, it's still there lol. Oh, and darn when you got nearly 100 balls I could have got the game to go over it's numbers if I really wanted to do so. Just never did lol. Peace. Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.
Uhmmm, The first Idea, would be unreal for Thomas as I see it. But, the Second one sounds like a winner. But, I wouldn't outright give the engine out for free. I think a subscription base should be added, as the game is being developed so that way it covers the cost of time that Thomas would have to answer a billion questions and bug searching he would have to do. Then if that Developer makes a game, and have it hosted on USA games site which I would put mine, would then get a free few months on the subscription deal or have it where for every 10 games the developer get a month free? Just a thought. Kuvvosh -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stefen Hudson Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2007 3:08 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion. Hi Thomas, I had a couple ideas about this new engine that might solve, or at least put a dent in the pricing problems. Maybe there could be 2 versions of the engine. One would be free, or very low priced, and would only let people make games to play on their own computers only. The second version would be the real deal that would let people make stand-alone games. This would work like the learning version of Visual Basic, allowing people to see if they want to buy the full version or not. The user who wants to develop games for sale could buy the full version, and the hobbyist could just use the demo version. The second idea deals more with overall pricing and the sale of games made by the engine. In addition to a one-time license fee for a product key, you could give the customer code to put in their online shopping cart. I'm not entirely sure how this would work. Either that, or you could host all the games on a created games page and make it so 25% of those sales go to you directly, with the remaining 75% going to the developer. If you're including the ordering wizard in the package, you could have something in there too. Maybe an email address that's specifically for the sale of games made with your engine by other developers. It would almost be like hiring employees for USA Games. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.
One thing I have to say Thomas, I'm glad that your games put every files in a folder structure. As I have stressed this to several people on problems with there games having to slow down and find the files and so forth. Not only that, it makes working on a game much easier to find the file that is causing the bug, and to correct it then going through 1k of files in a single folder. Sure computers are fast, but, NT file system hates it when you got nearly 1K of single files in one folder and isn't organized. When you throw a folder with 1K of individual files onto a hard drive, all those files are basically scattered across the drive, even after defragging, which causes the head to go nuts on locating a file. When organized, it helps a lot for the NT file system to be able to locate the folder name and files when placed on separate folders. Right now, the one game I somewhat got in the works is going to have nearly 3K of files alone give or take a few hundreds. I just hope that the game engine is going to be able to handle a large world, I'm considering a world with a grid base of 1k by 1K square. Each square being at least 12 feet square. Roughly 24,000 square feet. *Grin* and that's only the world map lol Then the dungeons alone going to be a different story. What I mean by Leveling, is XP based, like a RPG has. I'm going to need this for the game I'm working on. Hi Kuvvosh, I will certainly keep the list posted as news up Genesis 3D becomes available. Now, as for a level module can you explain that a little more? Genesis 3D already has a level editor which the developer gets to add new levels to the game. Obviously, I can't allow the outsiders access to the level editor as they would be able to reverse engineer and change elements of your games. Though, perhaps some sort of pass word security is necessary in this instance. Setting a password for a level should not be hard though. Kuvvosh wrote: Keep us posted on this Thomas. Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.
Hi Thomas. Yes I understand this. If you ever played Ever quest or WOW, that is the general Idea I'm wanting to work with. I know it's possible to do these games in sound based, if the Game engine supports the tools needed to do it. I know the sound limit is a big factor, as the world I would create wouldn't have that many sounds, until you get to say a group of trolls or a entrance to a dungeon. Maybe you could implement a auto detect sound modual into the engine to down grade it self if it sees that the user computer is lagging behind or unable to handle 32 tracks of sounds at once and so forth? Sounds like you are making this game engine to beat the snot out of AGM lol. Can't wait to know when you got a beta ready. I would gladly test it out for you and such. Hi Kuvvosh, Well, setting a world of 1000 by 1000, by 1000 isn't going to be a problem. I can make the grid size flexable. However, the thing you need to be careful with is not making your worlds too large. If you make them too large with too many audible objects you will eventually out strip the average users resources to play the game. For example, Sarah crashes my laptop because it uses too many resources on my laptop. I have to edit the sound.ini file and change the games default buffers from 50 to 30 in order to keep it from crashing. It is not that Sarah is a bad game, but it eats up way too many resources and has too many sounds going at once for my laptop to cope. As a result I've learned that you need to try and play it safe with memory in order to make your games functional on most computers. Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.
Hi Thomas. So, I take it this Engine will not allow for one large world, or is going to be room based? If Room based, then that'll be fine, I could do it like Everlag did, and just add expansions as the game grows lol. Is there any chance on the percentange of the engine completion? Hi Kuvvosh, Actually, Genesis 3D uses a different methodology for handling the sound problem. What you have to do is define areas, sound regions, which are used by the game to load certain sounds on the fly. For example let us say you declare room 2 area 2 in your sound region. There are 5 enemy trolls in that room, a key, and a torch. The second you enter that sound region the previous rooms sounds are unloaded and the new rooms sounds are loaded. So the sound buffers that previously held wav files for a Goblin, Troll, and a Dragon just got replaced by your 5 trolls. The sound of the sound of a scroll in room 1 might have just been replaced by your key in room 2. This is one of the things that makes Genesis 3D more advanced than GMA or AGM. If you use the sound regions that selects sounds based on area the games should run fast and with as little system resources as possible. Kuvvosh wrote: Hi Thomas. Yes I understand this. Re: [Audyssey] Genesis 3D was GMA game Engine.
Hi Thomas. Well, I know this engine is far from being done. But, As long as there is a way to gain levels from killing monsters and such. I know you would need to make a XP Modual, Spell Modual, and a Combact Modual, that will take in account for the effects of the spells and melee hit points and armorment. Not to mention the Mana Modual that would need to be add so when a caster cast a spell it takes from the mana score, and give or take a modual that would tie everything into the player modual as far as spells cast on person and magical equipment. I'm not expecting all this to be added in the first released of the engine, but I would be glad to help along the way, as far as testing and so forth. Hi Kuvvosh, Hmmm.. I'd have to think about that some. Obviously, some of the features you are asking for would be practical in all types of FPS games. For example armour classes, defence values for certain enemies, dinamic melee ratings based on the weapon you are using, etc would be very useful. However, the engine is not specifically going to be a typical DND dice throwing RPG engine. However, I do plan to add some sort of special powers which are optional which could be used in making a magical type game or equally could fit in a Star Wars typ game. For example the lightning option could be used between two wizards or two Jedi. Same goes for illusion, distract, blinding, etc. Kuvvosh wrote: What I mean by Leveling, is XP based, like a RPG has. Yea no kidding bryan , I seen your post there countless times. I was so hopeing that engine would be able to do the game I want, but what a joke. I was able to make one game with it, and gave up after that, I made my person, and then gave him a gun, and had a chicken 10 foot away, and you could sit there and shoot the chicken over and over that was it. They needed to just shut down that site and hang it up if they not going to work on it any more. Hi Claudio, No programming knolege is needed to create games with Genesis 3D. You litterally build entire games using built in tools to drag and drop objects around on the map. Once placed you can open a properties dialog to change the objects settings. For example, lets use an example of a door. You know you want a door at 75 1 75. Ok, arrow to the location with the arrow keys. Press o and you will get a list of possible objects. Arrow to door, and press enter. Now, an object called door 1 will be at 75 1 75. Press e, for edit, and you will be given a list of properties to change. For example, locked or unlocked, open or closed, audable, name of door 1, etc... As far as the ability to create racing games probably not with 1.0. I've learned that if you try to add everything at once, try and support too many features, the product becomes very buggy and difficult to manage. The bigger the project the more errors I am likely to encounter. So with 1.0 I plan to select a specific type of game (FPS,) and try and make it reliable enough to create the kinds of games sighted people play. later new types of games can be added to the engine. I've been sitting here, wondering what is required to create a game using a game engine that has already been designed. Also, was wondering how much would it cost to aquire the engine for creation of a game, or is it available upon request? I know most game require Direct X and .Dot Net programming. But, figured it would be easier if the game engine is already built and maybe just working on the objects, behavior, and effects moduals, would be much easier then creating a whole new game engine. I'd like to announce some of the current changes and ideas for the game as well as offer everyone a chanse to openly discuss the game. As allot of you gamers know I have been a very big fan of Mara Jade since she first appeared in Heir To the Empire. I have a large collection of Mara Jade fan collecter stuff including action figures, books, and games. So it is not surprising one of my all time favorite games Lucas Arts produced Was, Jedi Knight II Mysteries of the Sith, which featured, you guessed it, Mara Jade as the lead character. For those of you who have never played Mysteries of the /Sith and want to know what it was about here is a short summary of the game. Following an Imperial attack at Altyr 5 roomers begin circulating that a new Sith Lord has joined the Empire. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker asks his friend, the former smuggler and aspiring Jedi knight, Mara Jade to track down the Sith Lord and stop him at all costs. Throughout her quest Mara must battle Imperial Storm Troopers, Imperial Droids, smugglers, Wampas, Rancors, and even defeat a dark side clone of herself. Finally, once she meets the new Sith Lord does she have what it takes to defeat him? At this poinht in time I am basically thinking of a game based on Mysteries of the Sith with some personal changes tossed in for good measure and to improve the game somewhat. For example, in the original game you would have to steel an Imperial shuttle to escape to the secret asteroid base where the Empire was launching its attacks into New Republic space. Personally, flying around in an old Imperial shuttle is sort of dull considering the kinds of fighters and ships Mara pilots in the books. It is like, hey, what is an ace starfighter pilot doing in an old shuttle? Instead of the Imperial shuttle i could replace it with Mara's personal ship, Jade's Fire, which would just happen to be standing on the North landing platform instead of the shuttle. The advantage with adding the Jade's Fire rather than using the original shuttle is that I could introduce some dog fighting levels which would show case Mara's starfighter ace abilities in addition to her Jedi skills. Another change I feel would improve the game over the original is the switch between level 1 and level 2. In the original game when you ended level 1 you took off in the shuttle. In the next seen, opening of level 2, you landed on the base ready to shut it down. That's ok I guess, but I always felt there should be some sort of combat seen in between those two levels. Some sort of dog fight or space combat seen as you atempt to land on the secret asteroid base. What my thoughts are is in my version before you go to level 2 you would have an extra level in between where you could dog fight against Tie Fighters. You might be piloting the Jade's Fire towards the secret asteroid base when you suddenly get jumped by a squad of Tie Fighters. Before you could land on the base you'd have to dog fight, and destroy all Tie Fighters. Perhaps the biggest change I intend to make is i plan to use Mara for all the game levels. In the original game you got to play as Kyle on some levels, but it was something I didn't care fore. Kyle is an ok Star Wars character, but not my favorite. I always felt the game would have been better if Lucas Arts focussed on one or the other character than switching between characters on different levels. So this is my thoughts and plans right now. Anyone, have thoughts, suggestions, or comments? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo
Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Well, I hate to say it, but I think the Dog fight part should be 3D as well, as this would bring realisim into the game. Having to go from 3D to 2D isn't something that is all that fun. There is one game that I wish could be done since it could be done in audio but, werfe talking about a major game with thousand of hours to produce, is something like Star Trek hmmm what was the title geesh Bridge Commander I think. Can't remember I played it before I went totally blind and it was awesome as you was basicly the captain of the whole ship and had to do everything. I know Final Conflict is there, but sorry that game is boring. I hated the fact you had to select everything and then pass turn. I wanted the real deal. And only command one ship. Oh well. End quote As for the FPS portion of the game it will be totaly 3D. As for the dog fight portion it will probably switch to 2D since the game would be easier to play that way. Quote Question 2: Since this going to be a story based game, will it have multiple endings? End quote The original had three different endings. I am hoping to be able to do all three endings. Quote Question 3: Will this have the option of Multiplayer Space dog fighting online? End quote No, the game is primarily a First Person Shooter stand alone game. The dog fighting levels are just some bonuses that would make the game a little cooler and fill in some plot holes in the story. Quote Question 4: Can there be a nudity code in it like Tomb Rader had? End quote Lol! Well, I don't know how that would work. We are blind so even if I could get the mottle who is used for the action figures, games, and photos to pose nude none of us could see her. More seriously we don't have graphics in our games since it is added expense and time so a nude option wouldn't be possible anyway. Quote Question 5: If Question 1 is true, will there be a training level before the real action begins as this seems like a higher end shooting game then Doom. End quote I have to think about that. The original Star Wars game didn't have a training level, but I suppose one could be added in at some point. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Woa, are you saying that 25 people only ordered the USA game, and 150 people ofr RR? Geeze I thought there was a lot more people out there that played games. How sad. After all Mobile Speak is a hot product for us blinks with cell phones, and Loquendo guys know that. The Loquendo developers probably take in a chunk of the earnings for every copy of Mobile Speak purchased for a cell phone. For example, let's say Code Factory sells 1000 units of Mobile Speak for $150 each. let's also say that Loquendo is aloud $50 of every purchase. If you do the math Code Factory gets $10 and Loquendo gets $5 just out of that 1000 customers. That is certainly enough money to get a license for Loquendo to be used in commercial products. The problem with accessible game developers is that we aren't nearly making that kind of cash. Right now USA Games has only sold 25 units of Montezuma's Return , and while the money can buy some stuff it isn't enough cash to even touch the Loquendo licensing fees. As I recall Che mentioned he has sold about 150 units of Rail Racer so even with that whle the cash can buy some stuff it isn't really going to allow you to licens Loquendo. I have to say, this is a very good game. Dispike the hint that you must jump down from the rope to get to other parts of the game which wasn't in the manual. I kept on wondering why I couldn't get any further then room 8 until I tried going down the rope, and found that I was in a new room full of Snakes k. . . I'm glad I purchased my copy, as I was flying through the first level in less then 5mins. Have any consideration of making a metroid type side scroller like this ever been thought about? Re: [Audyssey] world of warcraft And other stuff
I have to say this game is not accessible. I've tried it out just recently since my brother has the game. He got me logged in and I could move the character, but that was it, tried several screen readers and no luck. So there For no this is not accessible, unless the Game makers would add narrator to it then it might work then, But. Come on you know that will never happen with everything focus on money these days. I'm wishing that some game developer would make a Real Real Role Playing Game for once, I'm sick of all the other styles of game play. I have yet seen one RPG that even worth playing. Sure there is Swith which is fine, just its lacking in a lot of areas. For one if it's going to be accessible, why not have the option of turning off the graphic parts, and just text only with buttons and the combo box and that it. Also I paid for a adventure account, yet I get the ignoring advertisement. That is one reason why I have not renewed my subscription or even devote any time into it cause of simple time consuming. For one a RPG based game is not far fetch given, that we already have the engines readily available. It's just the fact that no Blind game developer will make one, simply cause of the fact it would be a big project to do so. Why not hire or find people that are willing to develop the quests, items descriptions and the works while the main programmer works on the game and so forth. We got Shades of Doom, That engine there alone has been used in making several games, and I'm sure that it could be used to make a RPG. I can see that it would needs some clean up with some flaws, as having over 2k of files in one folder is not very good in game performance and updateability of it, as you would have to scratch your head on figuring out which file is which and that takes too much time. I've pointed this out to Phil for SOC, cause it's severely lacking in performance, due to this one prob. I know I'm going to probley get some flame mail from this, I understand programming, and I understand concepts and so forth. I done programming work before I lost my sight, and a lot of other things in the computer world. But, really. Main Game community like EA, Blizzard, and a load of others will never look at blind people simply cause it's not feasible, and just plain bias that they think that disable people will not be able to play such games. I know chee is most likely to get the big bucks with coming out with the first fully accessible RPG game. Once he gets on the roll with it. I already got story lines and stuff created for RPG's and stuff. But will never have the chance to use them and such, as I spend most of my time working on writing other books and stuff. And Tech work every day. Any how. I'll shut up. *Grin* Kuvvosh The Arctic Shephard *G'g'g'g'gr'r'r'r'ro''o'o'o'o'o'w'w'w'ww'w''l'l'l'l'l'l* --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. It's odd, for one this is some ways true in research and practical situation for blind people. I've noticed a lot of changes when I went totally blind 2 and half years ago. That I remember a lot more things then when I was able to see. But, for sighted people to be able to use such program, would not see any kind of improvement. Mark Pemberton wrote: Hi again Thomas, you must have the ability to slow down rapidly for those nasty force fields so disabling this function would not be possible. I cant speak from experience but one of the top racers, namely night rider, uses a steering wheel with incredible results. So don't be put off. see you on the mp circuit. [Audyssey] Sound RTS Chat.
I read the Developers Logs, one thing that isn't added is to save a game. Also I want to have more then a 30 min battle, I want a battle that last for hours, as I used to be a big fan of Empire Earth, which you was right about the Ore being in it. But, I want to be able to have a huge battle on a big big map. I hope this can be added later as, I see that Beta 9 is going to be a big update from the current version that is out at the moment. Also, I noticed that I can only maxed out to 40 soldiers, even with more farms is there something I'm missing about increasing my army? Or this just a limited at the moment? Thanks. [Audyssey] Hi, I'm new to list.
Hello, I'm new to the list. I was woundering if anything new has come for Sound RTS, as I love this game, and Have the latest version 8 Beta, but I used to play war craft back in the past when I was able to see, and noticed there wasn't any Ore Mines in this version? Any chance this might be added later on? Also, I would like to creat maps for it as well, as there is only one map thus far that is worth playing which is Map 3 as the others don't give you a chance to even build up a army and so forth. Great work, and Hope that more will be added as I want to see ships, water and Air of course added to the game, not to mention campains and option to save.
