[Audyssey] GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015?

2015-01-08 Thread Phil Vlasak

From David Greenwood:

posted January 8, 2015.
What's coming up in 2015?

Near the end of 2014, we were occupied by a couple of serious problems
introduced with JAWS 16 along with problems introduced with Windows 8.1. We
have now returned to working on our planned development and maintenance
list.

In order, we are planning the following:
1. The release of VIPMud 2.0. This will be a maintenance release which will
include the following:

- Supports most screen readers along with MS SAPI 5.
- Fixes the folder protection problems created by Windows's introduction of
UAC.

- Works much better with Windows 8.1 than did VIPMud version 1.x.
- Is now integrated into the new MyAccount system, which has the benefits of
immediate key replacements, on-line ordering, and a user-controlled account
system.

- Includes many documentation improvements.
- Fixes some bugs and implements several small features and changes.

2. Release of LoneWolf 4.0. Like VIPMud 2.0, it will include:

- Supports most screen readers along with MS SAPI 5.
- Fixes the folder protection problems created by Windows's introduction of
UAC.

- Works much better with Windows 8.1 than did LoneWolf 3.x.
- Is now integrated into the new MyAccount system, which has the benefits of
immediate key replacements, on-line ordering, and a user-controlled account
system.

- Includes many documentation improvements.
- Fixes some bugs and implements several small features and changes.

Plus it will:
- have some sound improvements.
- include all 100 missions.

3. Development of VIPMud 3.0. This will include many more new features than
will 2.0. These changes will be decided upon between current VIPMud users
and GMA Games.

4. Release of GMA tank Commander 2.0. Depending on the schedule, it may just
be a maintenance release, or it might go much farther.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA games DirectSound issues, was A Note to XP users

2013-09-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

I wouldn't go that far. There are always options, and while I'm not
sure what we, USA Games, will be doing as far as a stereo pan control
goes we aren't without options.

For starts most of the commercial audio libraries like FMOD, Irrklang,
and Bass all have 2d stereo panning. It might be that we will have to
experiment with each, find out which has the best 2d pan control, and
license it for use in our game engine. It might be slightly expensive
to do so, but it would resolve the problem of stereo panning.

Something else that makes something like FMOD Ex a worthwhile
investment is cross-platform support. Firelight Technologies is in the
business of licensing their library out to Mac, Windows, and Linux
developers and they try to maintain as much compatibility with the
host operating system as possible. As a result maintaining say XP
support along side Windows 7 and Windows 8 compatibility should be
possible using their technology because unlike Microsoft I don't think
Firelight is going to just abandon XP over night, and even if they did
simply recompiling with an older library should hopefully be enough to
maintain XP support for a few more years while still supporting newer
Windows platforms and so on.

Bottom line, while I am hesitant to pay hundreds or possibly
thousands on an audio API like FMOD it would certainly be in
everyone's best interests if we did. FMOD is by far and away the best
audio library on the market right now, and would provide us with the
ability to support many file types, the ability to support Mac,
Windows, and Linux with a single audio library, maintain backwards
compatibility with XP, offer us DSP effects, and so on. Its a win/win
situation in my book.

Cheers!

I am not so keen with open al/ sfml after the disaster with panning
and program crashes we had with some of the mota betas.

now if only we could get panning right so it panned ok that would be fine.
with most panning as long as it went left and right that was fine,

I think that we should see more mouse control in game and as well as
have a game be able to use keyboard and the mouse be able to use the
touchpads as touch and in fact touch jestures will be what will take
over a lot of computing sooner or later.

thats good to know there is a fix for this.
its one of the reasons I don't just go 7 right now to many old titles
need old oses.

its good to know that people are aware of the issue.
I don't mind playing old games on older oses but I would like to take
my games where I go and old os and old systems will not always be the case.

[Audyssey] GMA games DirectSound issues, was A Note to XP users

2013-09-13 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
David Greenwood has a fix for his DirectSound issues, however he is still
adding features to the game engine so hasn't released a patch for Shades of
Doom Tank Commander and my Sarah, Harry Potter game yet.
The beta test version I have makes sounds pann better on Vista, Windows 7
and 8.

As soon as he sends me the final engine, I can finish updating Sarah.

are probably workarounds for DirectSound issues, but its usually just

almost any developer.

Hi Folks,
I got this news from the GMA games list:
From: "David Greenwood" 2. GMA Lander. Remember the old moon lander? GMA Lander allows you to
land

on Venus, Mars, Earth, and of course the moon. You can also create your
own planets and ship resources and capabilities. You only have one key
to remember which turns on your retro rockets and turns them off when you
release the key. The challenge is knowing when and how long to burn your
engines. If you land any faster than a speed of 5 feet per second...Ka
boom!. The concept is simple, gravity speeds you up at an ever increasing
rate while your rockets slow you down. You only have a limited amount of
fuel so use it wisely.
I'll probably release one at the same time as Time of Conflict, and the
other with the maintenance releases.
When I release the games as a maintenance release, they will include
automatic key replacement functionality.

I could give more information, but people want firm dates and that I can
not give. For example, TOC is almost ready to go, but the beta testers
found it hard to get together with each other for an on-line game and so
it looked like I needed to build a scheduling system which I am working
on right now. Multi-player Tank Commander and Shades of Doom are huge
jobs, and the rewrite of 70,000 lines of code for the engine will take
two years at least, and this depends on me doing nothing else.

VIPMud. You can buy it for $30, but you get a free 30-day trial.

Hi Paulette,

The TNG soundpack is a collection of sounds from Star Trek: Next
Generation I created in order to upgrade Trek 2000 from Star Trek: the
original Series to Star Trek: Next Generation. For the most part they
are the same sounds I used in Star Trek: Final Conflict, but renamed
and modified to be compatible with GMA's Trek 2000.

to complete different missions radioed to you, and Shades of doom you have

Hi Michael,
No. Those are all different games. If you really want a description of
what each game is about head over to
http://www.gmagames.com
and read the descriptions on the website. You'll get better answers
there than asking the list a question like the one below.

Cheers!

Hi Michael,
In Lone Wolf you command a single submarine against various enemy
surface ships, submarines, etc. In Tank Commander for the most part
you command a single tank, blasting your way through the enemy front
lines, but around levels 5 and 6 you do get to command other tanks as
well.
By the way, could you please proofread your messages? They are a
little difficult to read.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] gma games question

2010-09-13 Thread dark
I believe michael simply meant to ask whether gma tank commander was a
stratogy battle game with each player controlling many units at one time
similar to time of conflict, or an individual action game controlling a
single character ala shades of doom.

To answer, gma tank commander is mostly just you in your own tank rolling
around and blasting through enemies, however in some later levels you do get
to give orders to 6 other tanks, though these are more like helpers
than actual units you control, and the orders you can give are very simple,
things like follow or stay stil.

Download the games, try them after reading through the user's manuals, and
answer your own questions. That's the best, and most fun, way to do it.

In Lone Wolf, you control your sub. It Tank Commander, you mainly control
your tank, but in a few sectors, you also control, or at least keep track
of, a few other friendly tanks. And, could you work on your typing or use a
spell checker or something to make your messages easier to understand? It
only takes a few seconds and very little effort to do so. Thanks.

Hi Dark,
Yes,
this is from David:
Lots of small changes, but the biggest changes are:

- When more than one unit attacks an opposing unit in one time period,
each
successive unit has significantly more of a chance of making a hit, that
is,

coordinated attacks are more effective then solo attacks ,
- fighters can now attack units within cities,
- better AI at top two highest levels,
- You can adjust AI difficulty in custom maps.

New units will b added in the next release, which shouldn't be too far
off.

GMA games news:
May 14, 2010 - Version 1.0 of Time of Conflict is now released
In Time of Conflict, you control infantry, armoured units, fighters,
destroyers, submarines , troop transports, aircraft carriers, and
battleships. This is a game of strategy for both sighted and visually
impaired gamers alike. You must control hundreds of units and deploy
them

throughout a randomly generated or custom designed game map. Pit your
skills against the computer, or in the not too distant future against
other gamers.
TOC 1.0 costs $33.00 US.

May 14, 2010 - Trek 2000 is now a free game
Trekk 2000 was one of GMA's first games, and it was written long before
GMA was ever in business. We feel that although it is a good game, we do
not plan to take it any further, and so we wanted to provide it as a
gift

to the blind community.

Simply download the game and install it. You will be all ready to play.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA games Time of Conflict released

2010-05-17 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Dark,
Yes,
this is from David:
Lots of small changes, but the biggest changes are:

- When more than one unit attacks an opposing unit in one time period, each
successive unit has significantly more of a chance of making a hit, that is,
coordinated attacks are more effective then solo attacks ,
- fighters can now attack units within cities,
- better AI at top two highest levels,
- You can adjust AI difficulty in custom maps.

New units will b added in the next release, which shouldn't be too far off.

David Greenwood

GMA games news:
May 14, 2010 - Version 1.0 of Time of Conflict is now released
In Time of Conflict, you control infantry, armoured units, fighters,
destroyers, submarines , troop transports, aircraft carriers, and

impaired gamers alike. You must control hundreds of units and deploy them
throughout a randomly generated or custom designed game map. Pit your
skills against the computer, or in the not too distant future against
other gamers.
TOC 1.0 costs $33.00 US.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA games Time of Conflict released

2010-05-16 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
David asked me to include this message:
Hi all,

Phil has let the cat out of the bag, but that's okay, I was almost ready.
Two things though:

First, download the new version from the web site or from

http://www.GMAGames.com/toc10004.exe

Use the new version's Ordering Wizard rather than the one from the beta. An
incorrect user code will be generated if you use the old one. TOC version
1.0 also sends the information to our server which makes the process much
cleaner. You will also be dropped into your email program with all the
ordering information included, and all you will need to do is hit send. The
email isn't strictly necessary, but it does let me know there is a order
waiting to be processed and it is a backup if the server-based billing
system has a few hickups.
The other point is that there is a problem with the web-based ordering
system, which should not be confused with the server-based ordering system.
We are working to fix it, but we're not to sure what happened, and so it
might be a few days or so.

In short, when ordering Time of Conflict, use the built-in Ordering Wizard
from Version 1.0 of Time of Conflict, or place your order by phone.

Hi.

On the audiogames.net forum at the moment is a message from Francis
wolf,

(actually the developer of Night of parasite). apparently, he and his
friends are having a problem running any game involving the gma
engine on

their machines, they get the message "corrupted dm file"

apparently this goes for any gma engine game, including Sarah,
though

they are able to play other audio games.

All we've been able to suggest over there is check they have all
dependencies (ie direct x etc), and if that fails contact David
Greenwood.

If anyone can however help, - particularly Phil given that
Sarah is

also affected, that would be good.

Re: [Audyssey] Gma games on chinese Xp

2009-07-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Phil,
The problem is that older Visual Basic 6 programs do not have good
Unicode support. That means if it runs on a computer using a foreign
language like Japanese, Chinese, whatever it will crash because the
unicode characters are unsupported by the program. The only solution I
can see is to change the settings in Windows to use English when a
program is launched with Unicode support. The more long term, better
solution, is to rewrite the GMA engine using something like C# or VB
.Net with unicode support included.

2009-07-28 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
Here are the steps to get L-works games to work on foreign computers.
They might help in running PCS and GMA games that use the GMA game engine.
People in certain countries may have a problem with Streemway telling them
that the product isn't licensed. This error is caused by non-unicode
characters. Here's the best way to solve this problem.

go to control panel
choose regional settings
then choose the advanced tab.
in the language for nonunicode programs, choose english united states.
then click ok.

Hi Dark, even on English xp if I set my Language for non-Unicode programs
to Chinese (prc), I will get the same error. So I think if they set that
to English US whenever they want to play any of the GMA games or super egg
hunt, those games might run. I am doing that for those games. Not using
Chinese xp so don't know the exact steps for that. The steps to do it on
English xp might give them some clue on where to find it on Chinese xp.
Refer to super egg hunt readme section 8. hth. They can contact me on msn.

Re: [Audyssey] Gma games on chinese Xp

2009-07-27 Thread Steady Goh
Hi Dark, even on English xp if I set my Language for non-Unicode programs to
Chinese (prc), I will get the same error. So I think if they set that to
English US whenever they want to play any of the GMA games or super egg hunt,
those games might run. I am doing that for those games. Not using Chinese xp so
don't know the exact steps for that. The steps to do it on English xp might
give them some clue on where to find it on Chinese xp. Refer to super egg hunt
readme section 8. hth. They can contact me on msn. 8wl272k...@sneakemail.com

  Hi.

On the audiogames.net forum at the moment is a message from Francis wolf,
(actually the developer of Night of parasite). apparently, he and his friends
are having a problem running any game involving the gma engine on their
machines, they get the message "corrupted dm file"

apparently this goes for any gma engine game, including Sarah, though
they are able to play other audio games.

All we've been able to suggest over there is check they have all dependencies
(ie direct x etc), and if that fails contact David Greenwood.

If anyone can however help, - particularly Phil given that Sarah is also
affected, that would be good.

either reply to me and I can let people know on the forum, or register and
reply directly to the topic on
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=3095

I thought I'd better alert people to this, sinse obviously if there's a
problem with the Gma engine running on Chinese machines, this affects the
developers of games and where they sell.

2009-07-27 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi
I think what is needed is to run English software on a Chinese computer.
The problem is that David doesn't know Chinese and he doesn't have a
Chinese computer to test the game engine on.
The error message does not specify what the problem is so he can not fix
it.

Have you tried Applocale?

I use it to run Japanese software on my English system.

Hi Dark,
David and myself have been aware of the game engine not working on some
foreign computers.
That is why we have the games work as demos so you can try them out before
buying them.

I suggested several things but none of them worked.
So it is up to David, but I can't speak for him if he wants to spend time
trying to get this fixed.

Hi all, quick question for those of you who perhaps aren't as new to
the accessible gaming comunity as I am.

A few weeks ago I purchased GMA Tank Commander, my first accessible
title to be bought. I've recently sent in a request for my key to be
bound to a second user code so I can travel with the game on my
laptop, but heard nothing back in the 8 days since, despite a gentle
reminder. As far as I'm aware, what I'm trying to do isn't breaching
GMA's licence or anything, and even if it is then a reply informing me
that it isn't possible or won't be happening wouldn't go amiss. My
question is, has anyone else experienced this before, or is there any
advice of things to try next?

TIA
Scott

2009-02-14 Thread Scott Chesworth
Hi chaps,

Yep, I can apreciate the work/life balancing act that goes on having
spent a few years as part of a 3 piece music production team. Don't
worry, I wasn't bashing David for this or suggesting I'd been ripped
off etc, just wanted to know if this was a typical time delay for GMA
so that I could choose which machine to install a game onto more
wisely next time I buy a title. Since everyone's saying he's usually
pretty quick, I'll put this down to whatever the opposite of beginners
luck is lol.

If I could just get past mission 5 of GTC there'd be no need for it on
the laptop at all. Those friendly tanks drive as if they're popping
to the shops to pick up some milk on a lazy Sunday, not like they're
unarmed and in a war zone! I've found myself hollering "Moove" at
the computer more than once today hehe.

Cheers
Scott

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Games unresponsive to licence reque sts

2009-02-13 Thread Matheus
yea, i didn't purchased any games from gmagames, but it may take some
time more to arrive the new keys replacement for email, i think that's
normal.
this is why i prefer to buy games that are not needed online
registration, bekause with my laptop for example, it's really not
everyday that i connects it to the internet, for example.
i buy a game, and hmm, some day then i go to some other place where i
don't have internet connection, like a city that i stay near a beach
that i doesn't have connction, and i'm bored, without anything to do, so
i decide to install a game that i awreade have on another computer. but
the thing is, i forget to ask it, and then i will can't play it.
but this thing of product key for certain machines helps in the security
thoug.
then, it's up to the developer what to choose.

Hi Scott,
I can say from personal experience that this is very unusual for GMA. I
have keys for more than one computer, and everytime I have requested a
replacement key I have gotten one with in three days of the request. The
only exception to this rule was when David Greenwood was out of town,
and of course it took longer that time, but most of the time I got
prompt and reliable service.

Yeah, automating the thing might not be a bad idea, would probably save
David Greenwood lots of time, as I imagine every developer must be flooded
with similar requests. But maybe he's just enjoying a short vacation that
he forgot or didn'T have time to announce, or some other real life
circumstances are preventing him from responding faster... Don't forget
that we're all just ordinary human beings, not perfect flawless machines,
performing 100% all the time, so life often interferes with our decisions

Just my thoughts, not that this would happen commonly with GMA, as far as
I know.

Hey Dark,

Yep, I've already installed GTC on my laptop and been through the
order wizzard. Copied in my original user code and key too in the
hope that it'd speed up the process for me and make life easy for the
folks at GMA. It's been a few days since the reminder email, perhaps
it's time for another.

Hmmm, surely automating this kind of thing isn't a big job for a
proper programmer. In fact there's probably a few free to use
solutions already in existance is there not.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Games unresponsive to licence requests

2009-02-12 Thread dark

Hi Scot.

Yes, certainly you can get second keys for Gma games, I have all of
mine installed on both my desktop and laptop.

You will however have to install gma tank commander on your second machine
and use the order wizard to send in the user code.

Also, it's probably a good idea to copyyour previous key in the E-mail to
Gma so that they know your not trying to cheat them and can check your
details more quickly and easily.

This might in fact be the reason their taking a while to get back to you.

If you did send your key and they've taken eight days to respond, then
E-mail them again.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

GMAGames all seam to run on vista, real nice without UAC, with UAC enabled,
run them with administrator or by putting the installation into the user

If you install the GMA games to your local directory tree like
c:\users\Jeremy\Games\GMA
All of the GMA and PCS Games will work correctly on Windows Vista.
Otherwise they could have some problems with User Account Control.
Another alternative is to start the GMA Games as administrator by
pressing the context menu key on the game's icon, arrowing to run as
administrator, and pressing enter. That will bypass User Account Control
on the game in question.
Finally, I don't recommend doing this, but you can turn User Acount
Control off which will allow most older applications to run ok under Vista.
As far as new programs GMA is currently working on a new mud client.
From what I hear it is suppose to be really really good.

2008-01-26 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Does anyone hear from the programmer from GMA Games?
I have not seen anyone speak of there games, and I was just curious if any
of them are VISTA ready.
I used to play them when i had windows M,E, but I have noticed that they
have had the same games out for a while now with no news if they are working
on something new or not. Just wondering.

Hi Claudio,
Thanks for the update. I wasn't aware David was upgrading his engine to
a new version. That explains why he has stopped licensing the old one.

2007-12-26 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Stefen,
That is the point exactly. All of the .Net languages have form designer
wizards like Visual Basic where you point to a place on your form and
drop a button, listbox, etc and then set properties to configure it.
Well, Genesis 3D uses that same concept. Instead of buttons, listboxes,
listviews, edit fields, you will be dragging and dropping doors, walls,
enemies, weapons, keys, etc.

2007-12-25 Thread Kuvvosh
Keep us posted on this Thomas. As I already got several games projects
waiting on being done. I just want to find a Engine that isn't so hard to
figure out that you have to have a college degree in programming to make the
game.

The two games I am wanting to creat are all 3D and are going to require a
engine that can handle large worlds, and I hope that you also will have a at
least some what of a Leveling modual in this engine as well.

Thanks

Hi Claudio and all,
Right now it is too soon to put a price tag on the Genesis 3D Engine I
am working on, but I do think it is going to be pretty revolutionary as
far as game engines go. Unlike other engines Genesis is designed to
target the end user with little to know programming skills while
supporting the latest gaming technologies for Windows.
I confess I have used a few ideas from AGM, released earlier this year,
but unlike AGM my engine will recieve commercial tech support, will
frequently be upgraded to support new games, and keep up with the latest
changes in technology.
However, one thing I will say that the engine is primarily designed to
make games in the First Person shooter genre. Games like Half Life,
Toomb Raider, Star Wars Jedi Knight, Resident Evil, Halo, Quake, Star
Trek Elite Force, are examples of the types of games you could make with
this thing.

Hi Bryan,
Double that. To buy the engine outright with unrestricted use David is
asking for $2000 for the engine. Though, as I mentioned in other

Either way it is pretty expensive. I'm working on my own engine, but I
am not sure when it will be ready for public use.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Games game Engine.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
Yes, using something like the GMA Engine would certainly simplify the
amount of work you have to do. The core features you need such as
DirectX are built in to the Engine. However, the GMA Engine does not
come cheaply.
You can buy a trial version of the engine to demo for $50.00 USD. If you
then want to develope using the engine you have a variety of licencing
plans. A. you can buy the engine outright for $2000 USD. B. You can give
GMA %25 of all of your sales using the engine. C. I think a yearly
subscription is like $300 yearly. I think someone like Phil could fill
you in on the specifics of the engine.
However, GMA isn't the only one who is working on an engine. USA Games
is working on the Genesis Engine which is based up on Microsoft .Net
technology, supports Managed DirectX 9, Sapi 5, and has a game designer
form which is similar to the AGM designer except Genesis supports true
3D environments.
One thing that sets Genesis apart from other engines is that you get
this really cool level editor which is easy to use. For example, when
the level editor starts you get a blank, 100, by 100, by 100 grid. You
can arrow to coordinates 0 0 0 and then press d to bring up the drawing
tool. Lets say you want that to be a wall. Select wall from the drop
down menu and it will be drawn in coordinates 0 0 0. Now, you want the
square above that to be a wall as well. Arrow up to 0 1 0 and repete the
wall drawing instructions above.
You can create enemies just as easily. You can press o for game objects,
select an enemy object and drop it on the form anywhere you want to.
Then while you are on the enemy object press enter to get a list of
properties to change like attack damage, defense values, etc.
