Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

2007-10-10 Thread Davy Kager
Hi,
It is a possibility, and I came up with this idea as well, but I haven't
played enough to proove it. Sometimes it is hard to tell when something is
either under you or just-past you. I'll play a little more tonight or so to
check it.
Oh by the way, is it true that the jump action can only happen when all
landingsounds are stopped? I noticed this when jumping on a crackling
ledge. Then the next jump waits until that crackling sound is done playing.
I wouldn't call this a bug, I was just curious.

Hi Davy,
In each time I died in the trailer I landed on a monster which killed me
instantly. Are you certain this is not what is happening to you also?
Allot of players get confused when they land on a monster, and are not
clear what happened to them, but that is the result of landing on
something you are not suppose to land on. Weather it is a snake, skull,
spider, drop off, spike, fire pit, etc the result is the same.
Basically, lights out.

Davy Kager wrote:
Alright, that was what I was thinking about too: no spikes. It may be
 caused
because while jumping there's a wall or door in the way (at least that's
what I sometimes noticed). But it has also happened when jumping close to
 a
non-burning rope. It's much like the dying in the trailer at USAGames.us.

That is correct. The jump function checks to see if the landing sound

Besides the view map function would be able to identify any rooms with

Hi Tom.

I'm glad the installation of Monti will work independently of where I put
it.

about the extra mood or drum sfx, well it's only a miner point, but imho
it'd give some nice progression to the game, and more of a feeling that your
getting further and further into the temple on later levels. The different
atmospheres of various environments is another thing that I particularly
enjoy in exploration style games, which is why imho it'd be good in Monti.

Hi Dark,
Well, for testing purposes alone the game has to be run from anywhere as
i most of the time run the game out of a testing directory. I rarely get
to play the same or current version everyone else has even though I have
it installed.
As for atmospherics etc I will look into it though for the next few
weeks I plan to get into mainly just finishing the levels, get the
product key registration system in, and get it ready for release now
that the engine is pretty much stable.
The way I see it anything I missed, extra features fluff, atmospherics,
can be added on in future upgrades, patches, etc after the game is released.

Hi Michael,
No problem. Just remember looking at the manual first though is the main
resource for getting these answers right away though. I've worked hhard
on making the latest manual pretty much explain just about any question,
and give every user the need to know nuts and bolts before playing.
Now, that the manual is in html it is easier than ever to search since
you can use the h key to jump to sections and subsections. Once I turn
the table of contents into links you can have it take you directly to a
section of interest.

couple of XP upgrades before my games will work.
1. Go to the USA Games requirements page and download the latest DirectX

Hello gamers,
USA Games Interactive would like to proudly announce the immediate
release of Montezuma's Revenge Beta 2. This all new public beta offers
many improvements in game play, greater stability, support for multiple
user accounts, an extra bonus level, and support for .Net Framework 3.0,

and DirectX (Auggust 2007.)

Important installation directions

1. Uninstall Montezuma's Revenge beta 1 from Add and Remove Programs in
Windows XP or from Programs and Features under Windows Vista. 2. Check
your c:\Program Files\USA Games\ directory to see that the Montezuma's
Revenge directory was removed
cleanly. If not delete the Montezuma's Revenge ddirectory so that beta
2 will install cleanly.
3. Download and install .Net Framework 3.0 and DirectX 9.0C (Auggust
2007) if you have not already done so. These updates can be found on the

USA Games requirements page.
4. Download and install Montezuma's revenge Beta 2 from:
http://www.usagames.us

Happy gaming!

enemies is easier (either that or I'm concentrating more). Extra levels, are
also always a good thing. I'll look forward to the full game with however
many levels it's going to have.

Btw, I have a question, are you planning to have the background mood sfx or
drum change in later levels?

It'd be nice if this was possible, to provide some extra variety to the
temple, but if it isn't possible never mind.

I'll look forward to the next release with hopefully more levels.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Subject: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

 2. Check your
 c:\Program Files\USA Games\
directory to see that the Montezuma's Revenge directory was removed

Personally, I have a fun program files folder where I install all my games
and things. this makes it handy to know what I've got, and only means typing
in three letters on an installation.

If the option comes up Tom, I'd prefer to keep Monti there if that's
alright. Sinse I'm always, and absolutely the only user on my computer, all
the user accounts business have ever done for me is cause horrible problems
from time to time, though I can deffinately see how in some circumstances
(Eg, sharing a computer with several other people), it might be handy to
have.

 Hi Tom,
 In the documentation you say,
We recommend keeping the default of

 C:\program files\USA Games\Montezuma's Revenge
For the sake of ease of upgrades, patches, and other USA Games updates to
 Monte

Are you going to change the location of the game to the user's folder in
 the
 final release?
 Phil

That is something I certainly can do in the next release if you would
like. It is a rather easy update to include into the game.

Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

2007-10-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,
There will be no need to change the installation folder for Montezuma's
Revenge for multiuser setup. Here is why.
In beta 2 I did extensive updating and rewriting of how the game handles
settings, saved games, etc to work correctly with multiuser acounts and
Vista's User Account Control. Basically, the game now stores all game
settings in the User's local registry hive and saved games will go in
the user's local application data folder by default. So weather there is
1 or 500 user accounts on the system it will just do the right thing out
of the box, and installing to
c:\Program Files\USA Games
is the only location the game needs to be installed to work correctly.
Since the game is now Vista User Account compatible User Account Control
will not block anything Montezuma's Revenge does in it's load and file
save operations as is the case with many other accessible games which
have not yet been updated to work this way.

Hi Dark,
Montezuma's Revenge can be installed anywhere you like. The part in the
manual that recommends installation in
c:\Program Files\USA Games
is a recommendation only. Not like some kind of absolute location that
needs to be used for every install of the game.
As I was mentioning to Phil in my previous post now that I have fixed
how Montezuma's Revenge handles multiuser systems it is multiuser ready
out of the box if a user needs it. If they don't the game will run
normally regardless of the number of user accounts installed on the system.

Hi Michael,
Yes, it does. There are alternative key strokes for laptops such as j
and l keys to walk/run/jump. it's all documented in the games keyboard
help and in the manual.
