Kickboxing. It sounds like an mk fighter. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Che Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 3:25 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey Booga booga kids, As I wind down the beta programming for Rail Racer, I am considering gathering resources for the next release from Blind Adrenaline. Here are the three games I am considering at this point: 1. Kickboxer - A fighting game where two players meet over the internet to beat each others brains out. Like rail racer, this game allows use of the mouse or joystick to input various combinations against your opponent. For instance to pull off a roundhouse kick, you may need to move your controller left, then right and hit the second button. There will be lots of combos like this that willl need to be mastered to be an effective fighter. 2. Head to Head football - A football simulation allowing two players to go at it on the gridiron. This also will be internet ready, and will include season results posted to the web, so we can hold tournaments and the like. Besides a full playlist to simulate coaching, I plan on including the ability to control individual players to some extent during a play. The way I envision it, folks can set up their own leagues, and play an entire season of NFL football, with any teams not claimed by humans being played by the computer. 3. Gunship - A helicopter fighting simulation modeled after the Apache A64 attack helicopter. The Apache is currently the baddest helicopter on the planet, capable of holding a large amount of various missiles for tank killing, troop slaying, and target bombing. In addition the Apache has one of the most advanced targeting systems known to man with the TADS system, and all of this will be integrated into the simulation, along with the fearsome chain gun mounted on the front of the chopper. I am curious what players out there are most interested in of these three games. The games are pretty much listed in ascending order of complexity, and therefore development time, with Gunship being far more complex than the other two games. If I go with Gunship, you can expect an extended wait on the release of the simulation, as I used to be a hard core flight simulation player when I could see, and I plan on bringing a high level of intensity to this game. Please let me know what you think, and which game you would prefer. Hello, sorry if this is a bit late, but got very much behind with my mail. My vote would be for the third game, Gun Ship. It sounds a big amount of fun, no matter how long it takes, if it's good it's worth waitting for. Hi, Just to put my two cents worth in. I am all for the chopper simulation. There is a game called Comanche which I believe used an Apache copter and had various missions like you are describing. I did some research before sending out this email and found that they are currently up to Comanche 4. Whichever game you wish to develop first is just fine with me. Keep up the great work. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi. It takes a while to write a fully working game. One thing I did forget to mention is game engines in general. If you have a basic set of functions, classes, bla ready to go that speeds up development time as well. When I started monty my audio class was originally for STFC, but since it could not handle the complexity of Monty I largely expanded it. I have since copied it to my other game projects, and as I build upon that one file all of my games are getting updated at once, and all have the ease of use, reliable tested code, from that class. I also have a math library for math related functions, etc. As I build upon that file with necessary math functions and calculations naturally all I need to do is attach it to my next game project and don't hav to reinvent the wwheel. That is what developing reusable libraries and engines is all about. Make it once, update it, and all your games run from that basic set of code. When you start out fresh there is added time creating all that stuff. Charles Rivard wrote: > This sort of insight is very interesting to me. Thanks for sharing. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi, Ron. Ron Schamerhorn wrote: This brings to mind one interesting question for the devs here. How long would you say it takes for a game from concept to finished product? End Quote Well, allot depends on how much time the developer has to work on the games without the rest of life such as family, work, holidays, etc. Another factor to look at is complexity involved. A strategy game takes much longer to code than a arcade shoot-em-up just because the AI has to be fine tuned, and there is lots of situations to look at. As a developer I can give you realistic time frames of what I was able to do. In general I spent about 20 hours a week on coding my games. Of course, that number is flexable as I had allot go on this past year that bounced that number around some, but average was say 20. I began Final Conflict in May 2004. It is now June 2006, and it is just drawing to a conclusion for 1.0. So just over 2 years on that project alone. Some of the delays were experimentation, rewriting entire sections of code I messed up on, etc plus I wrote and rewrote the AI many times to get it to the level it is now. Montezuma's Revenge however is moving at light speed compared to STFC. I began rewriting the engine from scratch on March 7 2006 and less than three months I have the first level completed, and about ready to test. The other levels should go allot faster as the basic engine is there, and probably needs some shake down. I can easily see it being finished in less than a year. Say 8 months from start to finish as long as I am able to continue at current rate. Games like Raceway will take much longer do to the math and physics involved in the engine. James North fortunately has allot of the code there in one form or another, but he had one engine, rewrote it partly in another language, and I will likely do a from scratch rewrite on it, which will take longer to get it all on the same page. It's a mess to be frank about it. In short your answer depends on complexity. Say 6 to 8 months or less for a arcade shoot-em-up and longer for simulation games and strategy style games. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
I would think we will. We have to keep in mind that accessible games haven't had the years of development compared to mainstream games. It's also not like there is a team of devs working on a given project with the exception of all in play, and their focus doesn't seem to be in that direction. Thus those who are interested in bringing us such titles are more or less one person shows. This brings to mind one interesting question for the devs here. Hi. I agree. I've been experimenting allot with mouse game input, and I am not overly thrilled with using it. I know that Che wants people to move on play like the sighted do, but my beaf is not that it is hard to use I just don't like the interface with it. I feel much more at home with a keyboard, or often times a joystick. Mice I don't like using because it feels weird. allan thompson wrote: > HI, > Actually, a game pad controller would be just fine in my book for the > kickboxing game. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi Che, Since I worked on a kick boxing game for DOS named Red Dragon Kickboxing, I vote for the Kickboxer game. We did not have mouse or game pad support but I thought we had a cool keyboard layout. To punch at your opponents head we used the insert, home, and page up keys for left center and right. For body punches we used the delete, end, and page down keys for left, center and right. For kicks we used the left and right arrow key for left and right kicks. And the up and down arrow keys moved you closer or away from your opponent. Easy to learn and easy to use. And to block your opponent, each of their kicks or punches had a distinctive yell and sound and if you wanted to block a right punch to your head you hit the right punch key. Lots of people liked the simplicity and ease of learning these key combos. Of course you could also add control or shift varieties to these moves since all the punches and blocks could be done with the right hand. The on-line play feature would make it a game with great replay value. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
HI, I am definitely for the fighter game. There are some games of the other kinds out there already or they are being developed, while a game like this still seems to be a million miles away. Besides it's the less complex one as you said, a football or another sports simulation doesn't really atract my attention and a flight simulation can wait a while. :-) Just my two cents. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
HI, Actually, a game pad controller would be just fine in my book for the kickboxing game. I am not too sure about the whole mouse combo thing. Played a game which used a mouse for fighting called die by the sword, and while it was interesting, most everyone I knew used the basic joystick or gamepad controls for the game. I would like a flight sim bassed on the flight simulators, not combat although I would like those to, but airlines, jets and other planes. Sighted have this you could also add your own aircrafts in. there is flight commander and starbase defender. The programmer for the latter title said he was really bussy but that if he had around 6 weeks it would be finnished. Hi Che. I also say number 3! It could be very cool if you can make the game in surround sound. It would also be cool with a fighting game, but I think these types of games must be controled by the keyboard. Not the mouse. Best regards Søren. I can think of at least two attempts to make a flight-style game for us. Neither one of them was ever completed. I hope somebody eventually pulls that off for us. Even a two-dimensional space arcade game like Asteroids or a neat action space trading/combat game would be great. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi, Che. Well, it is really a hard choice. Of all of them I like the Apache chopper game, but that is a bit of conflict on my part since one of the games in my design documents is an AH-64 helicopter game. Our games in the end could probably be two completely different games, but with our market being so small I am worried if we both release one one or the other will draw sales from the others company. Neither of us would probably want that, but it sounds like the most interesting of the three. My runner up is certainly the kick boxing game. It would be cool, and we could use more work in the hand-to-hand genre and style of games to play. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi Che, I have to admit, the gunship game would be awesome and it would be my first choice, but a very very close second is that football game. I am not a big sports fan but hearing about the options for that game, it seemed like a great game as well to try. As a side note, and I am probably alone in this, I am not a big fan of internet play either. I find myself wanting to play when I want to against the computer and not have to worry about other people schedules. But thats my opinion of course. The truth will set you free... Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Hi, As I used to play Video games, I would have to say... 3! 3!! 3 Lol It would be really hard to do--I bet, since I know next to nothing about programming games. But, make it as complex as you want, just make it great! Make it as well as rail racer and, I am sure that it will be one of the best games out there. We (as a gaming community) don't have that many complex games out there. I think it would be great to get some really complex but high quality games! The arcade games are fun, but nothing like some of the Video games, Halo (try programming that!!! Hehehe); any of the James bond games; and some of the flight games. I know that it would take a really really long time to program something like that, (a team of programmers take a few years--try only one or two people!) But it would be great to have. Ok, shutting up now--sorry, I was a really really big Video game gamer until I lost my site. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Che Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 6:25 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey Booga booga kids, As I wind down the beta programming for Rail Racer, I am considering gathering resources for the next release from Blind Adrenaline. Hi Richard, Yah, you will definately be able to play against the computer in the football game. One thing I should have mentioned in my original post is that these are the next three games from Blind Adrenaline simulations, unless something changes, so the vote is just for what order they appear in. Right now, Kickboxer is leading the voting, including some off list votes I have received. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Personally, I'd love the Gunship game. Something like that would be right up my alley. However, as a long-time editor of Audyssey and member of the blind gaming community, I'd say the Football game might be your best choice. Sports have been an area with a whole lot of interest and not much out there to play. You'd likely get more sales. I'm not a sports fan myself but would still be interested in taking it for a spin. I didn't think I'd like racing games initially but have had a blast with them. Hi Che, Well, personally i'd love to see your boxing game. I think internet play would be great. Doing so might actually get me the motivation to get a joystick for game play instead of keyboard reliance. Or, i'd like the apache attack helicopter game, maybe as in a gulf war situation, or maybe with the ability to design user-defined missions? I'd love to beta test anything you come out with. Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey

Re: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey
Che: I think football and then kick boxing. War battles or ships is not a interest of mine. Really am looking forward to the release of rail racer -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Che Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 5:25 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] New Blind Adrenaline game survey Booga booga kids, As I wind down the beta programming for Rail Racer, I am considering gathering resources for the next release from Blind Adrenaline.
