Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-11 Thread shaun everiss
I usually turn off the hal hotkeys once i'm in a game.
Its 1 reason I like hal over jaws or other readers when playing games.
you can turn off voice and hotkeys without unloading the reader.
then with 2 simple key pushes you can have the entire thing back.

[Audyssey] klango stuff

2006-04-18 Thread shaun everiss
Hi.
Just read the docs to this project.
I will try the game.
Buying it however.
I don't know.
Its 30 bucks.
For a memmory game?
I have memmory games from danz and bsc.
Free.
Memmory is not my thing.
I will try this purely for the environment, this looks like it has
potentual for users outside gaming.
For free menus and other things.
I know of only one free menu autorun out there.
One thats accessible.
Licence looks good.
However if it comes to it we will have to question the part that
allows the authors of the game to make the product inaccessible.
Although I understand that we can't control what they do, I think we
should make all effert to not have this happen.
And if it happens, well that will be it for us.
Except for that, small thing I am happy with licences.
This is a freeware project and not opensource.
Free for non comercial use.
Hmm, but if you wanted to use it in a comercial cense I would be
interested in a price.
Its early days before I hit a programming language and audio games
but if I was going to go comercial on this I would like to know what
the prices are for this sort of thing.
Would be nice to have this toolkit under my belt.

Re: [Audyssey] I'm back

2006-04-18 Thread shaun everiss
And having the linux games in windows to would be good.
Speaking of casts.
If someone gives me the server space, and everything I will be happy
to run a podcast like this.
I have space on 2 blogs but I can't get hosting for casts off this.
Since this should be a community effort everyone that wants to should
chip in with whatever they have.
I have resources to test stable windows games.
I can also have aditional resources to test on slower systems.
I have resources to record although not the best quality.
I will be able to post, every month or so.
My current blogs are
http://technology.menvi.org.
and http://wordpress.shaned.net, the latter of which Is my tech home
base where I post technical news.
I do have a free livejournal account to.
However I couldn't afford server space currently or bandwidth to host
or anything.
But I can broadcast and have the ability to upload a recorded file.
I can't upload and stream to the net as my isp does not like net
streaming and I have no cash to buy the unblocking for the ports to
stream or the cash to pay for the big amount of bandwidth I would need.
I have msn and skype.
I have irc but hardly use it.

Hi.
Just looked at klango.
Interesting concept.
But buying pirate memmory for that price.
Ok so it kept me up for 30 minutes but so what?
But then I am not a memmory type dood.
Sfx and music were good.

my views to.
I wouldn't class this as one of the games I would own.
thats 60 dollars nz for the game, around that anyway.
Since blind games especially here are costing me loads I have to
think what I buy.
Nice environment.
I also looked at the language to make the game files.
INteresting, but its all in a command window, no ide gui interfaces.

I have downloaded 20mb, played it in 30 mins and killed it again,
even my downloaded coppies.

Personally I have no time for such games.
I had friends with vertual pets, and well I never could understand

At any case its alegal here to use them.

Re: [Audyssey] shades of doomb help

2006-04-19 Thread shaun everiss
You just have to line up and shoot.
If not able to, try and make it run after you.
Then try to get it in a position where you have a long hall in front
of you and have the sucker comming down on it.
You can lob a couple of grenades at it then commencing blasting.
If you Have to saw it once, run and recharge, saw it again.
It may or may not run away, but either keep doing this till it dies
or does run.
If it runs, then chace it down with a rifle.

Re: [Audyssey] boxing

2006-04-20 Thread shaun everiss
What I do is always use getright or simular.
A note that if you are using the latest beta, try not to interupt
getrights stuff.
If you do, the file will start downloading weird gibberish.
You have to end getright from task manager delete the blank junk file
if it exists then you can continue.

[Audyssey] for all old timers

2006-04-22 Thread shaun everiss
Hi .
This message to all who use old games, dos games and other such programmes.
Through sheer luck I have a version of windowbridge that can run in
dos prompts.
I am now able to run games in dosfrotz, djgpp tads and standalone games.
However, I am having an issue with the following.
1. advint and 2 agt.
Advint I don't mind much all I have for that is columbus.
However the reason I have been trying to get a dos system up was for
agt, any version and adition including the even bigger agt and the
masters aditions of agt.
However I can't get agt to run.
I get runtime errors no matter where I shift the files and directories to.
I know this aint a true dos system, however everything else runs.
I have hardware dpmi and 128mb of ram in this system, its a seleron
600 with win98 and everything else runs fine.
I suppose I will have to try to find a dos system, its just that to
get one I need another hard drive andd floppy drive for a t 1850, or
another t 1850 or simular 386 system.
I am in new zealand.
For now windowbridge is the best option, about 99% of stuff runs, its
just I really want agt to work if I can.
I suppose I can do without agt, but I really wanted it to be up and
now I have a near perfect solution.
All dpmi protected stuff works.
Also www.windowbridge.ws is the site I pulled the reader off.
Use version 256 on a 98 system and you will be able to run dos stuff fine.
Just not agt it looks like.

2006-04-22 Thread shaun everiss
You forgot spoonbilgames.com I think thats whats its called.
When you request a game for the first time ask to be added to the
mailing list, that way you can request new titles after they come out
of production, and you can even request every title they have for blind gamers.
Currently I have subscribed for all games, if I like it I request.
Each game is 600kb.
Mostly card and puzzle games, they are free and remind me off the
mail order stuff you get.
Except this is email order and its all free.

Its not secret tom.
In fact unless you get it wrong its in a maze.
I wouldn't call it secret though.
Maybe though I have played sod for so damn long that I have trained
to know what is what.
One thing I would like for gtc and sod are level editors, because of
the engine I know these can't be easily done, however I think david g
is on here so I would like those modifications to the engine
added. I am really getting bored of these things not being able to
eddit and add levels.
True I would have to make new sounds and things however.

neither do I.
I think the better sound they have the better I like them.
One good thing about the blind gaming market is we don't have games
that you violently shoot at something and thats it.
Thats good.
All the games have stratogy on them.
I'd like this trend to continue.

you can if you shoot at them enough.
Although I wander if you got a sod 2 started.
You enter a time rift thingy, its only one way, I suppose you could
go back, but only at the end.
Your first trip you find out what went wrong in the first place.
Something like something failing, like a reactor, computer or something.
Then you get whatever you need to fix the stuff go back and fix it.
Only you have little time before things go bad.

The blind eye was not really that well recieved.
In comparison to other games or most games its well not really well done.
There isn't even any good theme.
Its a childs game, find the instruments and put them in the right place.

good for the first time to.
I still play from time to time, but I need to be in the mood to
actually think what to do.
The thing is that the first boss isn't that hard to beat.
The second prebos is easy ish and the following boss is hard.
The boss before the last boss is reasonably easy.
The last boss is hard though.

Re: [Audyssey] war games and the blind eye

2006-04-23 Thread shaun everiss
well there is another online game in the works.
I am testing it.
I can't give away much, but if you think of monopoly and substatute
the board of streats, stations and other things for planets then
thats basically that.
Its still in alpha.
In fact I am getting the latest version of it now.
Offline testing is done.
ONline testing is a bit harder, but we are getting there.
Saying that galaxy ranger is the only other game from there that I really like.
I never have completed it though, but yeah I may get it some time.

Re: [Audyssey] for all old timers

2006-04-23 Thread shaun everiss
hi kelly.
I will look at that when I get a chance.
Thats going to help a load.
Will I have to run this on every agt game I have on my system or what?
Will be cool to get agt up again.
It means no need to search for a dos system.
And it also means I can view hints and dos in the same system.
I wish we had readers that would do that now.

Re: [Audyssey] boxing

2006-04-23 Thread shaun everiss
not really if you use getright there is a keep alive setting somewhere.
If you go to internet options and then connections then settings
there is a checkbox that says disconnect if idle for more than
checkbox and unticking it and oking everything should fix ie cutting
your connections.
However this does not mean by any means if due to a wet line or other
things, say you don't disable call waiting or a fax comes through or
anything like that that your connection will ever not cut out.
In fact in ruril areas, there is so much inteferience that
connections cut out all the time.
Less here.
Even so, routers will cut out every so often, although fortunately
not much and will need resetting.

[Audyssey] I am in a bad mood

2006-04-24 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
Subject line says it all.
I have followed the advice about tpatch, but for some reason
cosmoserve refuses to run.
Not a major problem, although I really wanted that to run.
However I now descover that windowbridge 2.56 does not like any tads
or agt games.
So the only real benefit from getting this is to run stand alone
programs and inform stuff.

Does anyone know of some other screen reader that will work with a
keynote gold sa and unlike the keynote software does not need a 386
system to run.
I know asap may be my answer but microtalk.com seems dead.
Can anyone suggest what I can do?
or where I can obtain a copy of asap?
I suppose I will keep searching for a hard drive for this old toshiba laptop.
If I need to I will have to go the desktop way but something is
busted, the system does not like some disks, but likes others, and
especially dos 6 disks are not liked.
Its not the disk drive so I am think the mutherboard, but I wander is
it worth it, anyway its major big.

Re: [Audyssey] The chat

2006-04-29 Thread shaun everiss
I just wandered if someone could start a teamtalk server from somewhere.
www.andrelouis.com has all the files so it aint hard to set up.
They use this for music all the time and to chat and things.
There is potentual.
Either setting up a channel on a server like tbrn.net or making a
server its not to hard to host its all in one prog.
I am sure if onj was asked nicely he wouldn't mind.
He is quite open over some things if you ask.
We had a bit of a fight over the sounds he made and I must warn you
these are quiet for the app.

Re: [Audyssey] for all old timers

2006-04-30 Thread shaun everiss
I havn't mannaged to get any dos games to play on there.
Firstly the reader needs to understand dos.
Even if it does, the sapi or other software will not run well I have heard.
As for hardware previded you have a serial port and win xp doesn't
mind, ie does not crash, crashes and reboots with a hardware error
meaning a reformat, or other things you theretically can.
I havn't mannaged even on an old windowbridge system in 98 to fully
play every game i own though.
Inform mostly, not agt or tads, and even with tpatch I can't get some
games like cosmoserve to run right.
YOu really need either a dos system or a linux system me thinks to
play tads and inform properly.
Inform stuff can be played in windows with winfrotstts, but I have
trouble with save and restore.
Unless you have an old system you can play on, forget the games.

Re: [Audyssey] for all old timers

2006-04-30 Thread shaun everiss
I don't like navigating around with the vertual viewers, I use hal
And I always loose my damn place.
I have used windowbridge to.
I have 3 problems, I have used tpatch on all agt files but on
cosmoserve I still get runtime error 203.
I know /b may help me with agt games reading but I can't get dostads
command for bios mode, that would rock.
I have html tads and winfrotz tts on here.

2006-04-30 Thread shaun everiss
try www.randylaptop.com and click mudding.
The client is monkeyterm.
While not accessible itself the guy that owns the site has sounds and
configs for an ever growing list of muds and triggers.
This guy also wrote the accessible librarys for it and other supports.

Re: [Audyssey] podcasts of blind accessible games

2006-04-30 Thread shaun everiss
Phill I have an soni icd sx 35.
Its not as good as other recorders, costs around 300 nz, so its
probably around 150us.
Its ok ish.
Its internal mikes can record stereo.
The quality is not all that pro though, and everything is picked up.
You will need the game running through an amp or speakers with a
headphone jack to play but its doable The only thing is you can only
save to stereo or mono wav so will need something like soundforge or
winlame rc3 to code the files to mp3.
For a recorder its not bad and the software for it is not bad to.
However there is no auto recorder to mp3 convert, which is rather lousy.
Its accessible though and if you don't mind a mediam electronic crap
it produces its ok.
Its good with a external mike but when thats on I have never got the
thing to record anything but voice.

[Audyssey] Fwd: [atig] Games Day

2006-04-30 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
This may not be local info to most of you, but the blind orgs in my
country have decided to get interested in this so here is info for
your information.
I have asked the origional sender if I can get recordings on the orgs site.
If i can I will send it to the list.
For me this is damn good news, as here we don't have conventions like
you have in the us, or most of you anyway.
Our country is to big for things like nfb conv or csun.
I will post when I have more info.
For what its worth, we are spreading.

2006-05-03 Thread shaun everiss
as I said don't mind, actually I have loads to do with the
vipgameszone online project.
No release date is set but its roumered that testing stopps in around
3 weeks or so, probably 2.
Although I can't reveal the game i can tell you that there are a few
sounds in it I submitted.
I can also tell you that the game is really good.

Hmmm I suppose we could diddle with the time delay.
During the delay you could have a cutscene leading up to the next bit
or some music building to an actual scene, eg a battle.
However that would require work added to.

If you have 1.48 I can understand but 2.0 +? how. do you need to load

I don't like the comercial interfaces either.
The sounds are good but you can't make your own schemes.
I have thousands of sounds better than the stuff skype has.
I would also like a sound for when someone picks up a call or you
answer a call.
Think of what a sttng scheme would be like.

if you don't run just right you will have problems.
use your x key, do not always trust your shortrange scanners.

I should also add that if you are not lined up then back off and try again.
I recomend that after blowing up the artilary to go east straight to
the woods till woods are 50 meters away.
Then turn till you get the bridge and it should be 800 meters away.
I should warn you that you can manover close range type, but its
really hard to do it so don't.

How good a quality would you want the review?
I could do it, but the only way I can do things current is with a
small soni idc digital recorder.
Its a bit rough, its not straight from the system it just comes
through the speakers.
I have powered speakers so I probably can boost the quality with that.
I have soundforge but I havn't figured it all out yet.

Re: [Audyssey] help with gtc mission five

2006-05-11 Thread shaun everiss
use smoke, try to get rid of as many troops as you can.
In theory, your friends will try to help you when they show but don't
rely on that.
use smoke to get accross the bridge and keep the marshes to the right
and left of you so you are in the middle.
Get to 1000 meters from the bridge and stop.
unless the artilerys move behind you and he will eventually do this
you are blocking him.
Unfortunately he then has a limited range.
And for the most part he may leave you alone.
If he starts shelling you loads, move a bit ahead.

If you can kill as many troops as you can and use your missile

Its possible but has a long wait in it.

Re: [Audyssey] Strategy Game Proposal

2006-05-13 Thread shaun everiss
The thing is its all security for the gma engine, especially with v2x
I suppose if the engine was redevelopped we could have this, but I don't know.
As far as I know the engine is a load of libs linking into vb6 so you
need to know dx 8.1 and vb6 to even programme in it.
I don't think there is a language for writing, in some games like sod
you can output a rpg style map for input but not actually enter data directly.
It would be nice if you could.
If I could, i think i would probably try to get 3drealms permission
to put duke nukem stuff in the game, weapons and things, the only
thing is all the files are in voc, the old d3d versions, I suppose I
could use some wav files from newer versions and sfx, and there is a
free duke 3d theme writen in mp3 made by lee jackson, but I can't get
a trace on the guy, unless I was able to get the actual midi as a wav
of the origional stuff and then the midi music converts of the actual
game unless the gmaeng was able to play voc and midi files as well as
mp3 and ogg that was.
It probably wouldn't be feesible though.

Re: [Audyssey] GTC defending the bridges.

2006-05-13 Thread shaun everiss
I get rid of all troops first, because they keep shooting at me.
Or rather as many as I can.

I suppose I could get rid of the missile launching ones and those at
close range, kill the tanks and wait.

Re: [Audyssey] sound files for muds

2006-05-13 Thread shaun everiss
www.randylaptop.com has a mudding section with sound packs, there is
a growing list of them.
Mud config trigger files, the monkeyterm program, its jaws inputs and
its accessibility library and sound support script libraries.

I think with gtc he was only releasing codes that had some use or
that could be usefull.
Eg xyzinv has its uses.
abcea does have its uses if you are just trigger happy.

Re: [Audyssey] ps three

2006-05-15 Thread shaun everiss
This would depend on what linux came out on the ps3.
In theory you could probably do something with that.
But you would need to have speakers and sound cards and screenreaders
and synthesisers.
Previding you could load all that in then yeah, unless its just
designed for the games.

True tom, however you probably would need a reader to read the screen.
Unless it was built in, you would most sertainly need a reader for
the internal configs stored on the system.

Re: [Audyssey] ps three

2006-05-16 Thread shaun everiss
probably not, I dabbled in linux with a broken synth on speakup with
fedora 2 years ago at tech.
Its ok.
I still like the windows interfaces though, so I suppose when
everyone goes linux I think I will be jumping from the terminal to gnome.
I actually like that.
one terminal on root, one on my user, one in gnome.
you can do that on windows but it has issues.
I liked that feature.
