That is such a terrible tragedy; my heart really goes out to him. I can only
imagine how awful it would be to have such a devastating loss, and while so
far from home. Thank goodness he has such a close Gator family to help him

Haiti earthquake disaster. He hung out with us a couple of years ago during

My guess is the Meyer family will be there for Wondy, as is the entire Gator 
Nation.  I just hope he knows the love and prayers that are coming his way 
tonight.  May God wrap HIs blanket around him until he can deal with this 
tragedy :-(

  I was wondering if the horror in Haite would become relevant to GatorTalk.  
Paula and I have been watching with much sadness and are praying for all those 
affected by the disaster.  We are all family.

  I can't imagine what Wondy is going through in his grief, alone here in 
Gainesville.  The Haitians are such warm and loving people.

Dear students, faculty and staff: 

As Haiti continues to struggle with the horrific effects of the 7.0
magnitude earthquake that struck Tuesday afternoon, I know many of
you in the University of Florida community are eager to help. 

The University of Florida has numerous connections with Haiti –
not just scholarly ones, but also personal connections between UF
students, faculty and staff and their family and friends there. We
offer our greatest sympathies and hopes to all.  

Student groups are meeting this afternoon to discuss how best to
advise the UF community to provide assistance to the Haiti earthquake
victims. Please check the UF home page at www.ufl.edu [1] for updates.
 

We have received confirmation that two UF/IFAS faculty members in
Haiti are safe and accounted for: Florence Sergile, an assistant
instructor in IFAS International Programs; and Ed Hanlon, an
agronomist from the Immokalee station. However, we continue to await
word on the status of two UF journalism graduate students who are in
Haiti: Jon Bougher and Roman Safiullin. 

Meanwhile, faculty and staff in UF’s College of Public Health and
Health Professions, College of Medicine and Institute of Food and
Agricultural Sciences are organizing a relief mission to the Haitian
community of Christianville and its schools and clinic. 

We realize this is a difficult time for many in the UF community. If
you are a student in need of counseling or emotional support, please
contact the Counseling and Wellness Center at 352-392-1575 or Student
Health Services at 392-1171. Counseling services are located in
Peabody Hall, room 301 and are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Additional information regarding counseling services is available at
www.counsel.ufl.edu [2]. 

Also, a candlelight vigil scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday to
commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday will now recognize
the concerns of those suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake.
The vigil will be held at the Reitz Union amphitheater. 

We will update you as soon as we have further information on Jon
Bougher and Roman Safiullin and any other UF employees or students in
Haiti we become aware of. For now, please consider helping the
survivors in Haiti through channels at UF or elsewhere. We keep
everyone there in our thoughts and prayers.

Haiti earthquake disaster. He hung out with us a couple of years ago during the

Yet another stupid move for USC 
 
Great for SEC to be rid of Kiffen - Kiffen was an embarassment to the SEC
 
Florida has been cherry picking USC players. Namely, Prater who is 5 star WR 
from IL.  USC has a RB and athelete who are pretty good - but they are from CA 
- hard to pull them to Florida
 
As far as taking recruits from Tenn - their top 3 players are only 4 stars and 
are a WR, and two DEs.  We already have 5 star DEs and we are getting 5 star 
WRs.  So nothing there to raid.  They do have a 4 star QB.  We're trying to get 
another QB - but I think Loeffler likes the guy that is committed to Notre 
Dame. 
 
As far as a coach - are the Boise State and TCU coaches not getting any love 
now?

I love this on so many levels.

1) He's a total pain-in-the-butt jerk and we'll see lots less of him now.

2) This will be the end of the USC dynasty. They've hired a coach who could
only go 7-6 at a major university with lots of talented players. On the
positive side for USC, they can expect more moral victories in a single
season under Kiffin than they had in ten years under Carroll.

3) What a slap in the face to Tennessee. It's now a place coaches go until
they get the job they really want.

4) He was their 4th choice, so they didn't really want him all that badly.

5) All those loudmouth Vol fans are cryin' in their moonshine tonight. It's
hard not to feel a little pleasure in that.

Supposedly the NCAA report on USC violations will be out soon with their 
proposed sanctions.  The interesting issue is that Kiffin may well be named as 
one of the violators.  What will that mean for him?
 
Also, I see this as a double win for Florida.  USC recruits may well reopen 
their recruiting and give Florida a fresh look.  I don’t think that anyone in 
their right mind would see Kiffin as anything but a considerable letdown from 
Carrol.  Tennessee recruits will likewise likely be reopening theirs as well.  
Also, who will Tennessee likely hire?  Tuberville would have be a good choice 
but now he is at Texas Tech.  Could they go after baby Bowden?  
 
Did Skip Holtz go to USF?
 
What do you all think?

I'm guessing that Kiffin jumped because he figured the competition isn't as 
tough in the Pac-10, and because he has a built-in excuse for losing if they

Urban built the UF program?  Urban's been an outstanding coach, but subtract 
any one of many people who have built UF's sports empire and there would have 
never been an Urban at UF.  Think Graves, Cade, Spurrier, and a host of 
others.  Think Krueger and Donovan.  Think a total sports environment of 
excellence.

Meyer is just one small part of a huge sports machine at UF.

Why Urban returned 

Below is some very interesting information.   The guy passing on the 
information is the most respected of posters and has some inside connections 
with the team.  He always caveats his "opinion".  This is not his 
opinion.  This info comes from someone very close to the situation who felt the 
truth needed to be spoken.   
The post is long but basically it outlines that Meyer was offered a Leave of 
Absence by Foley but decided to step down before the Sugar Bowl because he 
wanted Charlie Strong to take the HC position before he went to Louisville 
(that had not been finalized yet).   Almost immediately after Meyer announced 
his "retirement" Stoopes called Foley and was all but set to replace Meyer.  It 
was to be announced within days.  When Meyer found this out, he decided to 
about face and take the offered LOA.   Meyer did not want his staff let go, his 
program rebuilt by Stoopes and basically be done at Florida.  People think of 
Meyer as Foley's guy.  He was actually brought in by Machen.  Foley has 
benefited from Meyer's success but Urban and Jeremy are not as tight as people 
think.
 
Amazing how much goes on behind the scenes and we never know about it.

On the main board a first time poster by the name of G8r Girl posted the

am an avid reader of both the Alley and the main board, I have never once 
posted so no one here knows me, including the Gators. I am not going to tell 
you how I know any of this nor will I post again here on this subject. Flame 
away if you must or take it for what it is worth…it is your prerogative. 
With his health scare, Urban Meyer had a wake-up call. He realized he had been, 
for several years, giving everything he had to his team to the detriment of his 
health and his family. He felt it was a message from God that he had lost track 
of his priorities and, being emphatically decisive he felt he had to make a 
choice between his long-term health / family and his job. He chose his family.. 
Meanwhile, Bernie Machen, president of the University of Florida, Jeremy Foley 
and Shelley Meyer wanted Meyer to take time off to get healthy, decompress, 
spend time with his family and recharge his batteries. Meyer has essentially 
earned “tenure” at UF and was encouraged to take a sabbatical. Despite their 
collective and repeated efforts over several days, Meyer remained committed to 
his own decision to step down because he is a type-A, all-in perfectionist. He 
felt that if he could not do the job right now, he should step away in the 
interests of his team and the university…and he had a plan. 
Why the timing on the resignation? 
Why couldn’t Meyer wait until after the Sugar Bowl---or for that matter NSD for 
all you conspiracy theorists---to make this announcement? Why all the urgency? 
Why create more distraction for his beloved team before their final game? 
Because Meyer's plan was that Charlie Strong would get promoted to HC and after 
some time off, Meyer would come back to UF and help Strong out at arm's length, 
staying involved, though less directly, in the powerhouse program he built. For 
his plan to work, he had to resign immediately, before Strong signed a contract 
with Louisville. He could not wait until after the bowl game. 
Why the sudden change of heart? 
Practically the instant that the Meyer resignation hit the wires, Bob Stoops 
contacted Foley. He wanted the HC job at Florida. Though we (Gators) all LOVE 
Strong, Foley would not and could not promote Strong to HC with the likes of 
Stoops in the candidate pool. Meyer knew that if Stoops took the job, he would 
not be able to stay involved in the program in any capacity. Strong would go to 
Louisville and all of Meyer's assistants would be out of a job. His players, 
who he truly loves, would have to weather a complete change in coaching staff 
and philosophy. In one week, he would lose all connection to the program he h

classy, you recruit a kid to a school, he graduates from high school early 
giving up all the fun of a senior spring - no prom, etc. - then you move him to 
a new town and now you tell him to stop and think about his decision?

the team. Reportedly, his call was put on speaker phone so that others in the

Yet another stupid move for USC 
 
Great for SEC to be rid of Kiffen - Kiffen was an embarassment to the SEC
 
Florida has been cherry picking USC players. Namely, Prater who is 5 star WR 
from IL.  USC has a RB and athelete who are pretty good - but they are from CA 
- hard to pull them to Florida
 
As far as taking recruits from Tenn - their top 3 players are only 4 stars and 
are a WR, and two DEs.  We already have 5 star DEs and we are getting 5 star 
WRs.  So nothing there to raid.  They do have a 4 star QB.  We're trying to get 
another QB - but I think Loeffler likes the guy that is committed to Notre 
Dame. 
 
As far as a coach - are the Boise State and TCU coaches not getting any love 
now?

Supposedly the NCAA report on USC violations will be out soon with their 
proposed sanctions.  The interesting issue is that Kiffin may well be named as 
one of the violators.  What will that mean for him?
 
Also, I see this as a double win for Florida.  USC recruits may well reopen 
their recruiting and give Florida a fresh look.  I don’t think that anyone in 
their right mind would see Kiffin as anything but a considerable letdown from 
Carrol.  Tennessee recruits will likewise likely be reopening theirs as well.  
Also, who will Tennessee likely hire?  Tuberville would have be a good choice 
but now he is at Texas Tech.  Could they go after baby Bowden?  
 
Did Skip Holtz go to USF?
 
What do you all think?

See... I find this funny because I told a co-worker i thought kiffen would
be the guy they got.  I coulddnt make SENSE of it... but i had a feeling.
So expanding on what Keith said...

For all the times we heard that "Tennessee was the best job in America" blah
blah blah... what does it say about TENNESSEE.. that he left for USC.  :)

Yet another stupid move for USC 
 
Great for SEC to be rid of Kiffen - Kiffen was an embarassment to the SEC
 
Florida has been cherry picking USC players. Namely, Prater who is 5 star WR from IL.  USC has a RB and athelete who are pretty good - but they are from CA - hard to pull them to Florida
 
As far as taking recruits from Tenn - their top 3 players are only 4 stars and are a WR, and two DEs.  We already have 5 star DEs and we are getting 5 star WRs.  So nothing there to raid.  They do have a 4 star QB.  We're trying to get another QB - but I think Loeffler likes the guy that is committed to Notre Dame. 
 
As far as a coach - are the Boise State and TCU coaches not getting any love now?

Supposedly the NCAA report on USC violations will be out soon with their proposed sanctions.  The interesting issue is that Kiffin may well be named as one of the violators.  What will that mean for him?
 
Also, I see this as a double win for Florida.  USC recruits may well reopen their recruiting and give Florida a fresh look.  I don’t think that anyone in their right mind would see Kiffin as anything but a considerable letdown from Carrol.  Tennessee recruits will likewise likely be reopening theirs as well.  Also, who will Tennessee likely hire?  Tuberville would have be a good choice but now he is at Texas Tech.  Could they go after baby Bowden?  
 
Did Skip Holtz go to USF?
