[ANNOUNCE] Apache Kyuubi (Incubating) released 1.6.0-incubating

2022-09-06 Thread Nicholas Jiang
Hi all,

The Apache Kyuubi (Incubating) community is pleased to announce that

Apache Kyuubi (Incubating) 1.6.0-incubating has been released!

Apache Kyuubi (Incubating) is a distributed multi-tenant JDBC server for

large-scale data processing and analytics, build on top of multiple compule

engines include Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Hive, Trino.

Kyuubi provides a pure SQL gateway through Thrift JDBC/ODBC interface

for end-users to manipulate large-scale data with pre-programmed and

extensible Spark/Flink SQL engines.

We are aiming to make Kyuubi an "out-of-the-box" tool for data warehouses
and data lakes.

This "out-of-the-box" model minimizes the barriers and costs for end-users
to use Spark, Flink at the client side.

At the server-side, Kyuubi server and engine's multi-tenant architecture

provides the administrators a way to achieve computing resource isolation,

data security, high availability, high client concurrency, etc.

The full release notes and download links are available at:
Release Notes: https://kyuubi.apache.org/release/1.6.0-incubating.html

- Mailing list: d...@kyuubi.apache.org

We would like to thank all contributors of the Kyuubi community and Incubating
community who made this release possible!

Thanks,

On behalf of Apache Kyuubi (Incubating) community

Apologies, only Kevin has voted to date. The vote was initiated about 2

Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Apache AGE (Incubating) as a TLP

2022-04-29 Thread Nicholas Sorrell
Hello,

I have been an enthusiast and contributor to this project since late 2020, and
it's been great to interact with such a welcoming and growing team of
contributors from all around the world.

The technology and project, in my opinion, embody Apache ideologies and is
ready to graduate to a TLP. I'm excited to be a part of this community and the
fantastic functionality this provides to Postgres.

Hello,

I am a contributor from Vietnam and I am very proud to be a part of this
amazing project.

AGE is a project that implements graph database functionality on top of
Postgres using extension mechanism, which is going to be
a very powerful database tool that can handle both relational and graph model
data.

This project has been developed so fast with enormous effort and has made huge
progress. I strongly believe the project is good to go for Top Level Graduation.

Best,

Viet Vuong.

Bonjour,

AGE is an amazing idea of creating and managing graph data alongside a
relational database.

Team AGE has made enormous progress since it started. Most of the
opencypher works with AGE now. AGE also provides functions to create graphs
from files.

Team AGE also has a tentative plan for improvements and future developments
and I have no doubt in saying that the team is now ready for Top Level
Graduation.

Along with the technical advancement team has also advanced socially and
has contributors from many different countries.

Furthermore AGE team has developed systematic methods for involvement of
new contributors and all contributions are handled in a well
managed systematic manner.

Based on tease assessment I believe that project is mature enough for Top
Level Graduation therefore, I support the graduation process.

Ciao,
Shoaib

Jason, I'm sorry to hear you won't be able to continue working on the
project. In the time you were with us you made some significant
contributions and your input will be missed.

As for the threatening emails, I just want to clarify that those have not
come from anyone working on the Wink project that also works for IBM. I
have not been aware of any such communication and cannot speak to the

Sorry folks, after my massive falling out with IBM I'm unable to help

I wish you all the best, but I am afraid I can not continue working on this

Re: [PROPOSAL] Apache Clerezza

2009-11-20 Thread Nicholas L Gallardo

This looks interesting. To the comment here:

An alignment to the JAX-RS implementation in Apache CXF could not only
help removing the dependencies to the CDDL-licensed code taken from Jersey
but also help providing a fully framework independent implementation with a
larger group of developers and thus higher quality.

Assuming you're relying on just the base JAX-RS support, I'd like to see
the JAX-RS engine be pluggable so that it could support both CXF and Wink.

Either way, nice work. I've been curious to see how Semantic Web
constructs could be manifested in JAX-RS applications.

Hi Niclas,

I promoted the release in Nexus so it is no long available in the staging
repository, but now available here:

https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/releases/org/apache/wink/apache-wink/1.0-incubating/

I haven't been able to update the links on the download page as I'm waiting
for write access privileges to the /www/www.apache.org/dist/incubator/wink
directory on people.apache.org. Once I have that I can move the release
resources over. One of the other committers already has the changes
prepped for the website.

Thanks Leo, your input is much appreciated.

In addition to this +1, we received a +1 from Kevan Miller in the Wink

one more +1 to release as the vote has already been open for 72 hours.

Thanks Kevan, and thank you to others who have voted as well.

reflected on the external list). The binding votes include:

Kevan Miller
Bertrand Delacretaz

Is this enough of a quorum to begin incubation? Again, thanks to those
that have provided input both into the proposal and via this vote. We
appreciate the reception of the community and are excited to get started
with the project.

Thanks Eli...

We've had some preliminary discussions about the design of each engine, but
I'll be interested to see how similar the approaches are once we're able to
get the code out.

While we wait for feedback, here's a pass at what some of the short term
objectives/priorities of the project would be. Comments are encouraged...

- We would drop both code bases to separate sections of the repository so
each can be built and have their test buckets run.

- After some initial comparisons/evaluations we could start building up a
common runtime based on the parts of each that we think are best. The key
is to get a lightweight runtime up that supports basic targeting,
databinding and resource invocation. It will be tricky trying to smash two
runtimes together, so I *could* ultimately see one or the other winning out
based on how much we're pulling and just adapt from there. I'm not wed to
any one design so long as it's light weight, flexible and pluggable.

- Once the initial runtime is together, we can start pulling JAX-RS tests
from both test buckets and start driving scenarios through and building out
the JAX-RS functionality.

That would be enough for a 0.1 to get things started and to see how we
would fit in to some of the other projects that would be looking to consume
the Wink runtime.

Thoughts?

Hi
HP started developing the REST SDK about 2.5 yeas ago, at that time there
was no suitable REST framework that provided the capabilities we were
looking for.
When decided to join forces with IBM and go open source, the SDK already
existed, so the question was where shell we publish it, rewriting it over
other SDK does not seemed justified.
Looking forward we see the Wink project as something wider than JAX-RS
implementation as it addresses also other REST development issues that are
not covered by the JAX-RS specification.

Eli

Niclas,

We will try the best to make the community dynamics happen. When we get
around to looking at the source, you will see
the existing cxf code packages and classes as-is. So theoretically we will
be able to get some value out of it in terms
of contributing back to cxf.

On a related note, would any pmc folks / asf members (including Dan!) like
to mentor us? or join us as committers?
Please let us know

thanks,

Re: Apache Wink Proposal

2009-04-22 Thread Nicholas L Gallardo

If you would have asked the CXF community, we would have been happy to
tell
you that the JAX-RS implementation has NO DEPENDENCIES on the JAX-WS
implementation. There is a CXF core with various personalities
layered on
top. JAX-WS is one personality.JAX-RS is another. (there are
others
like the simple frontend, some javascript thingies, etc...)

Given Greg's earlier comments, I am assuming he was referring to pulling
out the broader web services related code as opposed to just JAX-WS. That
separation is clear via CXF's frontend plugin mechanism.

Beyond that, we didn't fork the CXF code with the intent of creating a new
Apache project. Moving to Apache was only decided after the decision was
made between HP and IBM to work together. For IBM's purposes, we looked at
CXF and felt that the work to tease apart the JAX-RS pieces from the rest
of the core was about the same as redoing a minimal piece of that core
work. Specifically, doing nothing more than pulling a request in off of a
servlet and feeding it to the JAX-RS utils. Maybe our assessment was
wrong, but we can't change that now.

Personally, I think that JAX-RS is just a means to an end. A number of
projects outside of Apache provide this support today. If that was the end
goal, I agree there wouldn't be a need for the project. Ultimately, I see
this as an opportunity to focus on the broader spectrum of issues
surrounding Java REST service development. JAX-RS is an important piece,
but the project would be more valuable than just that.

Apache CXF is both a JAX-WS and JAX-RS
implementation. In IBM, our JAX-WS implementation is based on Apache
Axis2. Therefore, it was prohibitive to pull in CXF as part of our
runtime. IBM wanted/needed something smaller - it's as simple as that.
...
My question back to you is, do you think we can pull out the JAX-WS
 capabilities from CXF?

If you would have asked the CXF community, we would have been happy to tell

you that the JAX-RS implementation has NO DEPENDENCIES on the JAX-WS
implementation. There is a CXF core with various personalities layered
on
top. JAX-WS is one personality.JAX-RS is another. (there are others

like the simple frontend, some javascript thingies, etc...)

Thus, the answer is yes, we can pull out the JAX-WS stuff as there are no

JAX-WS deps.As examples:

1) The Distributed OSGi subproject in CXF uses the bundle that does not
include any JAX-WS things.Only the soap stuff and the simple frontend.

2) We DO provide a JAX-RS only bundle: (maven only, not really in the
kits)
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/cxf/cxf-bundle-jaxrs/2.2/
that was a starting point for providing stripped down runtime. It doesn't

include the jaxws stuff, the simple frontend, etc... It's currently
probably
larger than
