[Geoserver-users] How to restrict list of available CRS in Geoserver GetCapabilities Document

2016-01-26 Thread Robert Buckley
Using Geoserver 2.5 I have restricted my coordinate systems to 31467, 4326,
900913, 25832 using the user interface. However when calling the
GetCapabilities document I get the total list of all the crs available to
geoserver. This is causing problems else where in my data infrastructure
because the list is too long.
How can I solve this?

[Geoserver-users] SLD Transformation ogc:Function name=gs:Contour error:

Hi,

was trying out this great tutorial from
opengeo...http://suite.opengeo.org/opengeo-docs/processing/contour/dynamic.html

*

When I tried in my geoserver instance (Version 2.2 / Build-Datum 19-Sep-2012
18:33) I received the following error:

java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to find function parameter

Looking at the SLD, the parameters are data, interval and simply.

Here is the geoserver openlayers view of the data using the default raster
sld...

Is this a data issue or a geoserver issue?

[Geoserver-users] Display EPSG:4326 wms over EPSG:25832 GWCbaselayer seriously wrong!SOLVED

2012-10-25 Thread Robert Buckley
I remembered that I did some testing a while back with custom coordinate
operations.

I had tried to create an operation between EPSG:31467 and EPSG:25832 using the
BETA2007.gsb file.

It seems that it is this configuration that messed up my system...or I simply
did it wrong.

This was the content of epsg_operations.,properties

31467,25832=PARAM_MT[NTv2, \PARAMETER[Latitude and longitude difference
file, BETA2007.gsb]]

and the BETA2007.gsb was in the same folder.

Once I had removed these files and restarted tomcat6 the wms layers were once
again displayed.

Thanks,

Robert

seriously wrong!

Hi,

I sent this originally to the openlayers lists...but it is probably a geoserver
issue.

Hi,

I have discovered that one of my projects does not display WMS Layers over a
GWC basemap anymore. It used to work fine, but something has obviously been
changed ...I suspect in geoserver but I´m not sure.

http://maps.zgb.de/geoportal/os.html

This is a mashup demostrating what I meanthe basemap is from GWC in
geoserver. The Basemap is defined as EPSG:25832. I used to be able to easily
define a wms layer and this would be displayed without any trouble over the
basemap. Now it doesn´t. I will only display when the basemap is in the same
native projection!!!

I thought that geoserver would automatically redefine the wms projection based
on the basemaps options...am I right?

so why doesn´t it work here?

Thanks for any help,

Robert

There seems something wrong with GeoServer transformation to
EPSG:25832. The data is shifted ca. 3 Million to east.

The installation is recommended if you use

1) encrypted passwords
2) URL parameter encryption

If you dont need 2) and switch to digest encoding for 1), there is no need for
installation.

2012-10-25 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

EPSG:4314 and EPSG:4258 are unknown to me

According to this ...

http://crs.bkg.bund.de/crseu/crs/descrtrans/BeTA/de_dhdn2etrs_beta.php

The beta2007 is used for

Quell-Koordinatenreferenzsystem Identifikator DE_DHDN / GK_3
Ziel-Koordinatenreferenzsystem Identifikator ETRS89 / UTM
Quell = Source
Ziel = Target

between DH:DHDN / GK zone 3 to ETRS89 / UTM

Therefore EPSG:31467 to EPSG:25832

Or am i missing something?

Ok,

Thanks for clearing that up.

But here comes the real question...How do I define the crs transformation
between a 31467 and 25832 crs using BETA2007 and geoserver, and why did it
cause geoserver to crash?

It clearly states that we should use beta2007.gsb to create a transformation
method between 31467 and 25832 with Ntv2?

Re: [Geoserver-users] How to do caching properly

2012-10-15 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

If your GWCtilecache is defined in EPSG:4326 and your OpenLayers map option is
set to anything other thatn EPSG.4326 then there is going to be a discrepency
between resolutions. This will result in pink tiles.

Your best bet is to look into the source code of the GWC openlayers map demo in
geoserver. The map options are written which you can then copy and paste into
your javascript code.

Hope this helps,

Robert

Hi all,

I am working on a simple map site (5 layers)
at http://unesco1.nomadlife.org/ and I am having performance problem that I am
trying to figure out. The site is running on a GoDaddy VPS with 4GB of RAM .

I set up caching for my base map (which is a Geotiff image) and it works well
/geoserver/gwc/demo/UNESCO:BaseMap?gridSet=EPSG:4326format=image/jpeg

Now the cache runs on ESPG:4326 while my OpenLayer code runs on  yx :
ESPG:4038

Does this make any difference weather my WMS call hits the cache or not? Is
there anyway to verify whether the cached tileset is being used by the
OpenLayer call?

[Geoserver-users] Installation on server with low memory

2012-10-04 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

i`m installing  geoserver in tomcat7 on an Ubuntu 12.04 Server with only 512mb
RAM

This all went fine, but now tomcat7 crashes even before geoserver can be

I have set the max/min PermGen to 512 and Xms /Xmx also to 512.

Is there any possible way to run geoserver on so little memory?

thanks for any tips or tricks

The GeoServer REST API and the rest module that provides support for other
rest-based extensions are both included in GeoServer since the 2.1.x series.
You don't need to install anything extra in GeoServer to use them.

Re: [Geoserver-users] JAI verwendeter Arbeitsspeicher

2012-09-20 Thread Robert Buckley
Thanks for the reply but I am still not getting any response from geoserver
regarding the update of my native JAI on linux ubuntu server.

I have set the JAVA_HOME variable successfully ...at least when I  run
printenv it shows the correct path to the directory...but this could be just
confined to my shell.

Then I restarted tomcat6, but geoserver is still stating Sun Microsystems
Inc.: 1.6.0_20 (OpenJDK Server VM)

So the question is, where is this defined? Do I have to redefine the JAVA_HOME
somewhere else in tomcat6?

Thanks for any help,

Robert

Re: [Geoserver-users] JAI verwendeter Arbeitsspeicher

2012-09-20 Thread Robert Buckley
Thanks Oscar!!!

Geoserver has updated the java to Sun Microsystems Inc.: 1.6.0_24 (Java
HotSpot(TM) Server VM) and Native JAI and JaI ImageIO is set to
true.Great!!!

What did it for me was this...

a) create a link in /usr/lib/jvm/default-java pointing to your Oracle
JDK installation.
b) edit /etc/default/tomcat6 and set there your JAVA_HOME var.

But I have also changed lots of variables and scripts in the course of my
search in the following

 /etc/environment

 /home/username/.rcbash

 /tomcat6/CATALINA_HOME

 /etc/profile.d/java.sh

 /etc/profile

whether or not this is necessary I can´t saybut I think that if something
works...I shouldn´t change it!

It is however nice to know that geoserver used the symbolik link to
default-java instead of the JAVA_HOME path!!!...why is this??

thanks for all your help,

Rob

Hi Robert,

If you installed tomcat using 'apt-get', the problem is in how
/etc/init.d/tomcat6 looks for JDK locations in your system.

For Ubuntu 12.04, it searches in this order:

/usr/lib/jvm/default-java
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-*
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-*
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-ibm

Instead of editing this script, you can do either:

a) create a link in /usr/lib/jvm/default-java pointing to your Oracle
JDK installation.
b) edit /etc/default/tomcat6 and set there your JAVA_HOME var.

Hope this helps.

[Geoserver-users] EPSG:102113

2012-09-18 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I have installed the opengeosuite 3.0 Beta version of geoserver. Everything is
working ok in geoserver but geoexplorer is trying to display the layers in
EPSG:102113.

The opengeo software is a question for the opengeo forum
(https://getsatisfaction.com/opengeo/topics/can_i_install_the_opengeo_geoserver_from_the_beta_3_0_release_without_updating_to_postgis2),
but I have a question relating to geoservers handling of EPSG codes.

EPSG:102113 is apparently a vendor CRS defined by ESRI

http://spatialreference.org/ref/?search=102113

My question is thoughspatialreference gives 2 crs definitions for 102113 -

SR-ORG:45: WGS 1984 Web Mercator
SR-ORG:6928: ESRI:102100

what is an SR coordinate system?
Is this a match?

Would I define 102113 in geoserver by writting the following into
/user_projections/epsg.properties

45=PROJCS[WGS_1984_Web_Mercator,GEOGCS[GCS_WGS_1984_Major_Auxiliary_Sphere,DATUM[WGS_1984_Major_Auxiliary_Sphere,SPHEROID[WGS_1984_Major_Auxiliary_Sphere,6378137.0,0.0]],PRIMEM[Greenwich,0.0],UNIT[Degree,0.0174532925199433]],PROJECTION[Mercator_1SP],PARAMETER[False_Easting,0.0],PARAMETER[False_Northing,0.0],PARAMETER[Central_Meridian,0.0],PARAMETER[latitude_of_origin,0.0],UNIT[Meter,1.0]]

Re: [Geoserver-users] EPSG:102113 [SOLVED]

2012-09-18 Thread Robert Buckley
SOLVED

By comparing my epsg.properties file with that of the default geoserver
installation file I noticed that 102113 was missing in mine.

Thus I simply added the following to the bottom of epsg.properties

102113=PROJCS[WGS84 / Google Mercator, GEOGCS[WGS 84, DATUM[World Geodetic
System 1984, SPHEROID[WGS 84, 6378137.0, 298.257223563,
AUTHORITY[EPSG,7030]], AUTHORITY[EPSG,6326]], PRIMEM[Greenwich, 0.0,
AUTHORITY[EPSG,8901]], UNIT[degree, 0.017453292519943295],
AUTHORITY[EPSG,4326]], PROJECTION[Mercator (1SP),
AUTHORITY[EPSG,9804]], PARAMETER[semi_major, 6378137.0],
PARAMETER[semi_minor, 6378137.0], PARAMETER[latitude_of_origin, 0.0],
PARAMETER[central_meridian, 0.0], PARAMETER[scale_factor, 1.0],
PARAMETER[false_easting, 0.0], PARAMETER[false_northing, 0.0], UNIT[m,
1.0],  AUTHORITY[EPSG,900913]]

and everythings works again.

cheers,

Robert

I don't believe so, since the formats typically returned by WCS cannot be
handled by
the browser.
The WCS 1.1 idea of returning a mime/multipart document instead of a raw file
also
makes things quite a bit complicated, too...

[Geoserver-users] GWC Disk-Quota exceeded

2012-07-18 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Ubuntu 10.04
Geoserver 2.13

Overnight I was creating caches of layers in geowebcache. This morning the
server crashed. Disk-Quota Exceeded. This sounds to me like I don´t have
enough memory on my harddrive, but when I check with  the df -l command I see
that Use is only by 30%.

However with df -i I see this

Filesystem            Inodes   IUsed   IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/vzfs            18446744069458024216 18446744069416099868 41924348  100%

How should I interpret this? Have the gwc tiles in the caches filled up the
sectors on the disk? But then why does is show only 38% used?

thanks for any tips,

I would like to have only wms for one certain workspace, but wms and wfs for
another.

Theoretically with GeoSever 2.2.x there are per workspace service
configurations, so it should be possible
to do that on a per workspace basis, but I haven't tried that yet

Re: [Geoserver-users] GWC Disk-Quota exceeded

2012-07-18 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Partition size is 75gb
block size is 4096

df -i
/dev/vzfs            150 1190933  309067   80% /

df -H
/dev/vzfs               81G    29G    52G  36% /

Im hosting...so a new partition isn´t going to happen. Looks like i´m going to
have to stop caching!

Shame that I didn´t consider the block size before I started. I suppose I could
have decreased the block size to allow more tiles on the disk

Hi Robert,

looks like you ran out of free inodes, despite there's still space
left on the device, the file system has all its inodes allocated by
those little files.

XFS is known to do well, especially if the partition is 1TB and you
use the inode64 mount option:
http://xfs.org/index.php/XFS_FAQ#Q:_What_is_the_inode64_mount_option_for.3F

So, it looks like if you need to create so many tiles, you'll need a
new partition.
BTW, what's the partition size, file system, and disk block size you're using?
And around how many tiles did it get bloated?

Cheers,
Gabriel

[Geoserver-users] WMS layer unpublicize but still show in grouplayer?

2012-07-17 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I wondering how am able to display a wms layer in a group layer when the layer
itself is not public?

I have a complicated series of layers which I want to display as grouplayers
according to their theme...ie energy / Mineral Extraction / Water resources etc
etc

The theme energy for example consists of 3 layers energy_p, energy_f, and
energy_l for point features, polygon features and line features. In the
getCapabilities doc for this namespace I really only want to display the
grouped layers and not the individual geometry layers.

How could I achieve this?

thanks for any tips,

[Geoserver-users] How to add new SRS in geoserver?

2012-07-17 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I simplified my epsg.properties a year ago to cut down the size of the geoCap
doc. I need to now add one EPSG number to the list and have a couple of
questions;

1. When do I need to write the EPSG Number ahead of the PROJCS definitions and
when not? looking in my file I see some projections written
as 900913=PROJCS[WGS84etc and some just as
PROJCS[Popular Visualisation CR. Does this format actually make a difference?

2. Do I need to restart geoserver after changing the epsg.properties file or
can I just reload the configuration in the status page?

You can go /geoserver/admin interface, under Global Settings you will find
Logging Profile.

Switch it to production mode.

[Geoserver-users] SLD Hatched one side on line

Hi,

I have successfully managed to hatch a polygon only on the inside using a
mixture of geometry functions and style techniques.

The result looks like the black polygons here (have to zoom in to see the
hatch)

http://maps.zgb.de/geoserver/rrop08/wms?service=WMSversion=1.1.0request=GetMaplayers=rrop08:RROP08_Erholung_fstyles=bbox=3573399.50067436,5723925.59994194,3642589.90001407,5856834.6063width=266height=512srs=EPSG:31467format=application/openlayers

I would now like to do the same using a line! The problem is that I can´t get
the geometry buffer to work. Does this work for lines?

Would anyone know how I can maybe manipulate the sld to get this style
working...attached is a screenshot of the style I want to achieve,

[Geoserver-users] Text symbolizers: central position

2012-07-11 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I was wondering how to ensure that a text symbolizer always gets centered on
the point.

As far as I can see, the default is to anchor the label-text at the point´s 0,0
coordinate ie bottom-lefthand corner of the point.

Can I change this so that the center of the text gets placed on the center of
the point?

At the moment I am playing with

 LabelPlacement
           PointPlacement
             AnchorPoint
               AnchorPointX0.5/AnchorPointX
               AnchorPointY0.75/AnchorPointY
             /AnchorPoint
           /PointPlacement
         /LabelPlacement

but is there also a css?

or should I be looking at this...

        Geometry
          ogc:Function name=centroid
            ogc:PropertyNamethe_geom/ogc:PropertyName
          /ogc:Function
        /Geometry

I hope this is understandable.

Re: [Geoserver-users] Multiple geoserver / or multiple tomcats?

2012-06-05 Thread Robert Buckley

Thanks.

I am using gwc for my first instance but not necessarily for my second. Would a
multiple geoserver architecture break GWC for the first instance of geoserver,
the second, or both? Is there a way to disconfigure/remove gwc from the second
instance?

thanks,

Rob

Hi Robert,
you can have have several Geoserver instances in same Tomcat or at
least that was the case with the 1.7 branch. There may be some problems
with GWC and maybe with some other things, but besides that, there
shouldn't be any major obstacles. The port is same for all instances,
only instance name must be different.

Hi,

you can have it anyway you like but its better you point both of them
to the same data directory, that way you will have to maintain one
data directory for both, the problem will only come when using cached
layers that is if you are using it.

[Geoserver-users] wms Layer authentication: How?

2012-04-30 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I have certain layers in my getCapabilities document which I would like to
protect because they contain sensitive information. I would like to serve the
layers at all scales to trusted people in an openlayers map and restrict the
layer to a certain scale (using sld max-scale-denominator) for others.

If I make the layer not published, but then embed the layer in an openlayers
map, then I can still look in the source code, find the layer url and layer
name, and add this to the wfs getfeature url for the layer thus downloading the
geometries and data.

I would ideally like to password protect the layer from within the application
(I don´t want the user to have to know another password to access the layer)
but don´t know how this would work. I have read about the http basic
authentication but don´t really know how to implement it.

Is this type of security available in geoserver?

Is anyone able to advise?

cheers,

Rob

Robert,

Noticed the CssParameters stroke-dasharray and stroke-dashoffset were
misplaced, so your SLD does not validate. Put them after of the GraphicStroke
block, but still inside the Stroke block.

Robert,

Noticed the CssParameters stroke-dasharray and stroke-dashoffset were
misplaced, so your SLD does not validate. Put them after of the GraphicStroke
block, but still inside the Stroke block.

What is the best format when symbolizing point graphics with respect to size,

I am particularly interesting in whether is makes sense to start creating

[Geoserver-users] NamedLayer or not NamedLayer?

2012-04-03 Thread Robert Buckley
Just a quick follow-up to the last post raster symbolizer wms using dynamic
SLD

What is the purpose of the namedlayer attribute in an eld file?

If the layers are manually assigned to the data in geoserver why do we need to
use NamedLayer at all?

What happens when I just leave out the NamedLayer part...can it then be
assigned to any layer?

cheers,

[Geoserver-users] DEM wmsGetFeature: Change column name in query output

2012-03-19 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I have a DEM which I exported as geotiff and uploaded to geoserver and am
currently serving as wms. The gdalinfo output is as follows...

Although the image is coloured, the colorInterp=Gray?.When I do a
getFeature query, the only field that appers is called grey_index...I assume
this is related!

The height is however correct when I do the query...so I am a bit confused as
to why the z value gets put into the grey_index field...

I would ideally like the field to be called elevation...is there anyway I can
change the name of the field from grey_index to elevation and if not, how
can I influence the field names in a geotiff?

thanks for any replies,

Rob

[Geoserver-users] WG: gwc layer naming convention

2012-03-05 Thread Robert Buckley

Betreff: Re: [Geoserver-users] gwc layer naming convention

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation.

Without having examples, it is pretty difficult to understand the difference
between resolutions, Levels and scales fully.

As a cartographer, I am interested only in the output, ie. if it is disirable
to have a map which shows the following scales - 1:1000.000 / 1:500.000 /
1:250.000 / 1:100.000 / 1:50.000 / 1:25.000 / 1:10.000 / 1:5000 I simply want
to know how to achieve this.

Obviously I would not use Levels as this doesn´t give me the control to
choose my own scales.  Scale Denominators and Resolutions let me acheive this.
If using Resolutions is the recommended way, would you be able to explain, ( or
give a tutorial url) how I can accurately calculate the resolutions from a
given coordinate system? (and a given extent if this is relevent?)

eg. If I am using ETRS89 defined as follows...

  gridSet
    nameEPSG:25832/name
    srsnumber25832/number/srs
extent
      coords
        double226014/double
        double5648111/double
        double773840/double
        double5998111/double
      /coords
    /extent

Using these extents I can workout that the width west to east is 5998111
- 5648111 = 35 meters and the hight is 773840 - 226014 =  547826
meters...but this has no real use as far as I can tell as the resolution
depends on only unit of measurement and screen dpi. Is this right?

Using  a DPI of OpenLayers.DOTS_PER_INCH = 25.4 / 0.28 = 90.71428571428571,
and 39.3700787 inches in a meter of screen I can then workout that

Resolution = chosen scale / InchesPerUnit * DPI

therefore...

Res = 100  / (39.2701 * 90.71428571428571)
R =100  / 3562.359071428571260271
R = 280.712859077111976006937033

the resolution corresponding to 1:1000.000 for a coordinate system defined in
meters is 280.712859077 etc

Is this the correct method of working out the resolutions? It would mean that
these resolutions are universal for all coordinate systems which use meters as
a unit.

I defined my geowebcache.xml using scaledenomintors. By looking into the source
code of the openlayers geowebcache demo the following resolutions are defined
for the above scales...

280.0, 140.0, 70.0, 27.996, 13.998, 6.999,
2.8, 1.4

they are close...but not identical...

280.712859etc,  140.356429etc,  28.0712859etc, 2.80712859, 1.4035642953

To how many decimal places should the resolutionsbe rounded, and why is
geoserver defining the first resolution as 280.0 and not 280,712 etc

Thanks for any comments...I´m sure there are lots of other users who have
exactly the same questions...

yours,

Rob

cool.

I am now looking at the XML schema regarding resolutions,
scaleDenominators, or levels.

I have seen now custom geowebcache.xml examples which define either levels or
scaleDenominators. Is there a reason for this..

There is. Levels gives you the easiest way of defining the gridset at the
expense of flexibility, like in gwc will just take the whole gridset bounds and
calculate each level's resolution as (level -1) * 2.

scaleDenominators and resolutions lets you specify exactly how you want each
zoom level. Resolutions is the recommended way, as it's not based on a fixed
world to pixel ratio. But some want to define them based on scale denominators
instead (there are a couple of them in the TMS spec), as it's common to have
1/1M, 1/500K, etc maps. Chosing which one to preserve also lets you choose
which one is bound to floating point rounding errors.

or do all methods of defining map levels work equally well?
They should work equally well (provided you use a recent gwc version, 1.2.6 I
think still has a bug that prevents using levels).

Cheers,
Gabriel

thanks again,

Rob

[Geoserver-users] How to set up geoserver wfs-t security?

2012-03-01 Thread Robert Buckley
hi,
I am trying to set up the following senario...

ROLE_ADMINISTRATOR full read and write permission to all layers

ROLE_USER1 = read access to only one workspace called rropx

Eeveryone else = read access to all other workspaces EXCEPT the workspace
rropx

I have defined the configuration as follows...

//user.properties

admin=admin,ROLE_ADMIN,enabled
user1=user1,ROLE_USER1,enabled

//layer.properties

*.*.r=ROLE_ADMIN
*.*.w=ROLE_ADMIN
mode=HIDE
other_workspaces.*.r=*
rropx.*.r=ROLE_USER1
rropx.*.w=ROLE_USER1

The problem is that ROLE_USER1 can see all layers but not edit his workspace.

Can anyone see a mistake?

[Geoserver-users] is the spacing of vertline in polygon fill SLD possible?

2012-02-28 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I have two fill symbols which need to be replicated in geoserver. They are both
exactly the same, apart from one has larger spacing between the vertline

              Fill
                 GraphicFill
                   Graphic
                     Mark

                   /Graphic

I am not able to create this inside puffer with transparent hole sld using
difference as this needs two separate input geometries in order to create the
buffer.

I wanted to do this with just one polyon geometry.

I have a polyon which needs to be symbolized with an inner ring of 3.5mm at

The filterfunction can indeed create a puffer, but the center of the polygon

So you're trying with a negative buffer, but that just shrinks the polygon,

I never tried myself, but I believe you can combine two filter functions,
buffer and difference, to get what you

work.

[Geoserver-users] YAML Language : Specifications?

2012-02-20 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Yaml is still a bit of a mystery for me. I am trying to figure out what
specifications there are in order to understand how to format my pdf documents.
Since upgrading to geoserver-2.1.3 with the newest mapfish print plugin the
line spacing seems to be closer together. However when I look at the spec
http://yaml.org/spec/1.2/spec.html...There is no mention of line-spacing or
even spacingAfter which is already implemented.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks Gabriel,

at last last i´ve got GWC working with custom scales!...the bit that wasn´t
really very well documentated was the crucial last bit with the
wmslayersNow it´s working I understand the principle much better.

I am now looking at the XML schema regarding resolutions,
scaleDenominators, or levels.

I have seen now custom geowebcache.xml examples which define either levels or
scaleDenominators. Is there a reason for this..or do all methods of defining
map levels work equally well?

thanks again,

Re: [Geoserver-users] Imagemosaic errors on 2.1.3 and memory leak

2012-02-15 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

please accept  my appologies for asking many question..it is unfortunately
a sign of stress and panik with regard to my deadlines at work.

My system Is a linux Ubuntu 10.04 server in tomcat6 running geoserver snapshot
from 13.02.2012 (2.1.3)

Regarding the Imagemosaic, I ran gdal_transform to re-define the coordinate
system on the Geotiffs and then commented out the leakpreventer line in
tomcat/server.xml and it worked!

I find it strange though that it worked before in 2.1.2 with the old
geotiffs...but who knows what happened inbetween!?!

I have a couple of questions though regarding geoserver and the memory leak.

1. are the plugins tested when releasing a new geoserver version..or are they
considered independant and not part of the stabliity of a new geoserver
release?

2. In my geoserver.2.1.3 GWC does not create tiles when browsing if the
leakpreventer in tomcat6/server.xml is NOT commented out.  ( I will send the
log when I get time)

3. Will the memory leak really have a negative effect on the performance of
geoserver or tomcat6?

thanks,

Rob

Would it be possible to just take the jar files from 2.1.3 and put them in

[Geoserver-users] geowebcache.xml refusing to take affect.

2012-02-10 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Geoserver-2.1.2 / ubuntu 10.04 / Tomcat6 / integrated Geoserver GWC

I am trying to get one layer cachable in EPSG:25832 (ETRS89). I have tried most
combinations for the layer including using the layer extents from the layer
configuration in geoserver to using the complete etrs89 bounds as referenced
in http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/25832/

In an earlier post Gabriel Roldan suggested that the wmsLayer name  property
should not be exactly the name which geoserver usesie instead of using
zgb:windpot50ha_etrs89 I should just use windpot50ha_etrs89...however this
didn´t work either. I restart geoserver every time I change the geowebcache, xml

here is my geoserver log after a restart

[Geoserver-users] How to format date in mapfish print config.yaml?

2012-02-07 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

In my config.yaml I have the date formatted as such...MM.dd. because
nothing else works...the problem is that here in Europe as far as I know,
no-one uses this formatI read the date from dd.mm.yyy- but unfortunately
this doesn´t work in YAML.  Has anyone been able to format the date other that
in MM.dd.??

[Geoserver-users] Imagemosaic layer preview not displaying all tiles

2012-02-06 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

over the weekend I spent most of my time converting ~1300 Geotiffs into server
friendly imageswith gdal_translate, rgb2pct, gdaladdo.

This was successful, but after creating an imagemosaic geoserver crashes when
displaying the images and the initial overview in the layerpreview doesn´t
render properly...almost 1/2 of the imagesare missing...they are however there
and are rendered when one zooms in to a larger scale

Is this a memory issue or something else whch is breaking geoserver?

Here is the preview in geoserver...(takes a few seconds to display!)

http://maps.zgb.de:8080/geoserver/zgb/wms?service=WMSversion=1.1.0request=GetMaplayers=zgb:dop_etrsstyles=bbox=568000.0,5758000.0,644000.0,5855998.319width=397height=512srs=EPSG:25832format=application/openlayers

I have the following error report from my geoserver log which details the
rendering problem I think...

hello,

correct! . 1300 approximately bound to one imagemosaic.

It seems to be a bit unstable at the moment. I have 6gb RAM on the server but
tomcat6 is taking up to 159% cpu (how can that happen?) when I use the top
command on ubuntu.

Yes, it is a way... but disabling the usage of JAI IMAGE_READ should do the
trick too. Just to be clear, you have thousands of files, but just one image
mosaic, right?

[Geoserver-users] It is possible to replace Images within an imagemosaic without recreating the mosaic?

Hi,

I have one tif within my imagemosaic (comprising ~1300 tif images ) which is

It is possible to replace it without making a new mosaic? .ie just upload a new
image to the directory and overwrite the old image (extents are the same)

[Geoserver-users] JAVA_OPTS - where, how and what?

2012-02-06 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I am a bit confused with how and where to set JAVA_OPTS in tomcat6 on linux.

There are s many different setting that I have found, and even many
variations of where to set this variable so I thought I would bring this
question for the 1000th time into the forum.

1. Does JAVA_OPTS get set in /etc/default/tomcat6 or in /etc/init.d/tomcat6
or both??

2. In  the start up script /etc/init.d/tomcat6...the JAVA_OPTS seems to be
inside an if statement...so I don´t know if it gets read or not.

3. The first file in /etc/default/tomcat6 is an extra file so I don´t know if
this gets read either!

4. How can I check what JAVA_OPTS are really being used?

5. what options are necessary?

Headless mode is a system configuration in which the display device, keyboard,
or mouse is lacking. Sounds unexpected, but actually you can perform different
operations in this mode, even with graphic data.

source = http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/headless/

so in my case -Djava.awt.headless=true needs ot be included ...right?

and -jvm server ?

the rest are just numbers for meso the higher the better...or is this wrong?

-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:NewRatio=2 -XX:+UserParalleGC -XX:+AggressiveOpt
-XX:MaxPermSize=128m -XX:SoftRefLRUPolicyMSPerMB=3600

I have of course read
this...http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo/foss4g/2009/SPREP/1Wed/Parkside%20GO3/1500/MakingMapsFast.pdf...but
thereis only one side about java.

Re: [Geoserver-users] Mapfish print - Printing from different WMS servers

2012-02-03 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi Gerome,

Have you modified your config.yaml file? there is a section under hosts...that
would be my first attempt at a solution...eg

hosts:
    - !localMatch
        dummy: true
    - !ipMatch
        ip: 0.0.0.0
        mask: 0.0.0.0
    - !dnsMatch
        host: HTTP://YOUR_EXTERNAL_GEOSERVER_URL

hope it helps,

Rob

Betreff: [Geoserver-users] Mapfish print - Printing from different WMS servers

I all,

I'm trying to print maps with data from my geoserver WMS and layers from an
public WMS.
I can print mapsonly if my map contains only data from my geoserver. If I try
to print a map with data from my service and from an aother service I ahave an
error 500 :

03 fÚvr. 09:37:44 ERROR [servlet.BaseMapServlet] - Error while generating PDF
DocumentException:
org.mapfish.print.InvalidJsonValueException: spec.layers[1].baseURL has an inval
id value: http://geoservices.brgm.fr/risques? (spec.layers[1].baseURL has an inv
alid value: http://geoservices.brgm.fr/risques?)

I can see that the trouble comes from the baseURL for the other wms service.
I use an xml in my geoserver that is the getcapabiliites of the service
http://geoservices.brgm.fr/risques?; to display the layers of the external
service.

I don't really know where does the error comes from and how to get this service
printing working with serveral data sources.

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Geoserver-users] How to remove black edges around imagemosaic?

2012-02-01 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Is it possible to remove the black background around the imagemosaic?

Here are my aerial photos

http://maps.zgb.de/windpot/nopreview1.html

I have tried putting values into the InputTransparentColor
and OutputTransparentColor boxes in geoserver but these are not altering the
no-data values.

Do I have to reprocess the no-data values in gdal?

Any tips would be great.

thanks,

Rob--

Shutdown tomcat and enter

ps -ef | grep java

if you see a running java process and the output contains catalina, notice
the process id and execute

kill -9 processid

check again with

ps -ef | grep java

The process should have disappeared, you killed tomcat.
Now start tomcat.

Re: [Geoserver-users] Change to external geowebcache and delete integrated geowebcache

2012-01-30 Thread Robert Buckley
System: Linux ubuntu 10.04, tomcat6, geoserver2.1.2

Hi,

my problem is this.I cannot create a geowebcache.xml file which enables me
to server EPSG:25832.

On my test server (which uses the OpenGeoSuite and an external GeoWebCache I
simply wrote my definitions into geowebcache.xml and restarted tomcat6.
The new EPSG SRS was then displayed in the GWC Demo page which could then be
cached. I copied this geowebcache.xml file into my integrated gwc folder and
the new gridset does not appear in the demo page.

Yours,

Robert

so did Jukka's reply answered your question? If not, would you be a
little more specific about what's not working with the integrated gwc?
paste your geowebcache.xml if you can, and explain what's not working.

 map.addControl(new OpenLayers.Control.Navigation());
 map.addControl(new OpenLayers.Control.Scale($('scale')));
 map.addControl(new OpenLayers.Control.MousePosition({element:
 $('location')}));
 var demolayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.WMS(
 GWC_ilmakuvat,../service/wms,
 {layers: 'GWC_ilmakuvat', format: 'image/png' },
 { tileSize: new OpenLayers.Size(256,256) }

 map.addLayer(demolayer);

If EPSG:3067 grid set is used a different mapOptions are needed but all the

 var mapOptions = {

 Hi,

My problem is that I have to use openlayers to display the data.
I have create gridsets for EPSG:25832 and EPSG:31467 which work in the
opengeosuite which has an independant Geowebache, but in my geoserver.2.1.2
the same gridsets are not shown.

Udig is a great client. I didn´t realize one could change the srs on cached
layers or even define your own scales.

 Hi,

If you mean self made grid sets using some other SRID than the default sets,
then for sure they work. Use for example uDig for looking at your GWC WMS-C
service because it can use it automatically by parsing the GetCapabilities.
That way you can avoid configuration problems with OpenLayers.

This is what I have on geowebcache for one layer.

2012-01-30 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I like your approach. Although one problem from my end  is how to manage the
datasets when we get new photos. I guess the whole process will have to be done
again from step one!

If I keep the photos as single files, I would then be able to just replace the
old photos and recreate the new image mosaic.

OR

create a number of imagemosaic e.g for each Region (we have 5) and then serve
the 5 regions together in a grouped layer.

It´s hard to tell which is easierOrthophoto management is a real pain!

Hi Robert, answers inside

Zitat von Robert Buckley robertdbuck...@yahoo.com:

 Hi,

I would like to serve all by Orthophotos with geoserver and then  cache them
 with GeoWebCache.

Each Photo is a 3 band 8 bit raster with a 40cm resolution at around  74mb
 each.

 - Is there any benefit to reducing the bands from 3 to 1? ( the size  of the
 raster remains the same)

The pixel dimensions remain the same, but  one pixel is represented by one byte
instead of three bytes. The answers is definitely YES.

  - Is there any way I can reduce the size from 75mb? I have around  1300
Photos and it would be nice to lower the upload time...

I have the same problem here and thinking about the following solution.
use gdal_merge.py or gdalwarp to create one big picture having 3 bands
use rgb2pct.py to create a big picture having one band.
use gdal_translate to create a geotiff (using inner tiles and LZW compression).
use gdaladdo to create the the overviews you need

The result should be one geotiff file (Probably a bigtiff if the size is bigger
than 4GB).

Geoserver supports geotiff out of the box. Geoserver 2.2.x supports bigtiff,
Geoserver 2.1.x supports it recently.
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-3931
If you are on 2.1.x and you need bigtiff support, you have to test with a
nightly build.

Hope this helps
Christian

 thanks for your suggestions,

 Rob

[Geoserver-users] How to best serve Orthophotos with geoserver?

2012-01-29 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I would like to serve all by Orthophotos with geoserver and then cache them
with GeoWebCache.

Each Photo is a 3 band 8 bit raster with a 40cm resolution at around 74mb each.

- Is there any benefit to reducing the bands from 3 to 1? ( the size of the
raster remains the same)

 - Is there any way I can reduce the size from 75mb? I have around 1300 Photos
and it would be nice to lower the upload time...

thanks for your suggestions,

Rob--

[Geoserver-users] How to stop geoserver from seeding geowebcache layers?

2012-01-23 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

Ever since installing Geoserver 2.1.2 the new geowebcache cached Layer
application which lists the cached layers and enables/disables caching
automatically caches every single layer that is served by geoserver.
The stop caching selected layer does nothing.

Normally it would not be a problem, but I want to create layers which are at
this moment confidential. I don´t want to advertise them in my getCapabilities
document. But even when the are not advertised, they are still cached and
therefore also accesible by changing the url to /geoserver/gwc/service/wms?

What can I do to stop geoserver automatically caching layers?

Yours,

Robert--

[Geoserver-users] Advertised layers still available as gwc layers

2011-12-15 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

My system is Ubuntu 10.04 / Tomcat6 / Geoserver 2.1.2 - Integrated GWC

The cached layers link in my geoserver dashboard lists the layers which can
be cached. I tried to use the Stop caching the selected Layers button to
disable caching for some layers but this is not working.

I´m not sure what is really supposed to happen. Would the layer actually be
removed from the list, or would the Tick just disappear from the right of the
layer to indicate that the layer is not being cached? There are also no error
messages in the geoserver log.

Whatever should happen, nothing actually works which means that layers which I
have actually removed from the getcapabilities document by disabling the
advertised switch under the layer settings are still advertised when one
simply changed the url to /geoserver/gwc/services/wms.

This is a new installation of geoserver from the latest section
here http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geoserver/2.1.x/

Is the Stop caching the selected Layers button actually working by others?

thanks,

Re: [Geoserver-users] Change to external geowebcache and delete integrated geowebcache

2011-12-13 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

My problem is that I have to use openlayers to display the data.
I have create gridsets for EPSG:25832 and EPSG:31467 which work in the
opengeosuite which has an independant Geowebache, but in my geoserver.2.1.2 the
same gridsets are not shown.

Udig is a great client. I didn´t realize one could change the srs on cached
layers or even define your own scales.

Rob

Hi,

If you mean self made grid sets using some other SRID than the default sets,
then for sure they work. Use for example uDig for looking at your GWC WMS-C
service because it can use it automatically by parsing the GetCapabilities.
That way you can avoid configuration problems with OpenLayers.

Hi,

I would like to change my geowebcache from integrated to external due to
problems with custom srs definitions which don´t work with the integrated

I have already cached some layers in 900913 and 4326.

Is there anything I should consider before doing this? My method is to delete
the following jars

gwc-2.1.2.jar
gwc-core-1.3-RC1.jar

gwc-diskquota-1.3-RC1.jar

gwc-ve-1.3-RC1.jar

gwc-wms-1.3-RC1.jar

gwc-wmts-1.3-RC1.jar

and copy the precached layers into the new geocache app

[Geoserver-users] Not displaying gwc layers in client

2011-12-06 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I have spent the last couple of days researching how to define my own gridsets
in gwc.

I have managed to create a geowebcache.xml file which contains a gridset for
EPSG:31467 and EPSG:25832. I used the following method to define the
resolutions..

resolution = scale denominator / OpenLayers.INCHES_PER_UNIT[units]
*OpenLayers.DOTS_PER_INCH

from http://www.spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/31467/ the bounds for the gridset
= 3386564.9400, 5237917.9109, 3613579.2251, 6104500.7393

so I added the following for 31467

resolutions
      double279.9998488000/double !-- 1,000,000 --
      double139.244000/double !-- 1,500,000 --
      double27.848800/double !-- 100,000 --
      double13.924400/double !-- 50,000 --
      double2.784880/double !-- 10,000 --
      double1.392440/double !-- 5,000 --
      double0.278488/double !-- 1,000 --
/resolutions

The result is that the demo page shows the map! (success)

When I copy the geoserver demo client into my own directory I just get while
tiles and with my geoext client I get this in the geoserver logs

2011-12-06 10:37:16,703 ERROR [geowebcache.GeoWebCacheDispatcher] - Unable to
match requested SRS EPSG:31467 to those supported by layer
http://192.168.20.35:9090/geoserver/gwc/service/wms

Could anyone help me get it running?

yours with thanks,

[Geoserver-users] how to update user_projections/epsg.properties?

2011-12-06 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I removed a load of epsg numbers from the file epsg.properties in my data_dir a
few months ago. Now I need to add an epsg to the geoserver list of crs´s. I
have added it to the file in user_projections/epsg.properties and restarted
tomcat but my wms getcapbilities isn´t updated with the new epsg.

How can I force this into geoserver?

thanks for any advice,

[Geoserver-users] GeoWebCache: How to test basic configuration

2011-12-05 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

i am trying for the first time to make a new gridset. I have read the docs, and
seen many examples. There are of course many configuration parameters, but I
would like to start at the beginning and start the gridset with as few
parameters as possible and then gradually build them into the geowebcache.xml
file.

system: Ubuntu 10.04/ Geoserver-2.1.2 / Geowebcache -integrated geoserver
version

My question ishow can I really test out the gwc configuration to find out
whether it works?

yours,

Rob

My first attempt is the following:

1. create geowebcache.xml in the gwc directory of GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR

2. ( Question!!  does the geowebcache.xml have to be owned by tomcat6?...what
about file permission?)

3. Obtain the srs extents from http://www.spatialreference.orgin my case
they were for EPSG:31467 and therefore

-Projected Bounds: 3386564.9400, 5237917.9109, 3613579.2251, 6104500.7393

4. using this as a a template
