[Gimp-user] Is this a Gimp 1.3.23 bug?
Ok, I've been using Gimp 1.3.23 to do some image work and tried the Text Tool and LOVE it! :)I've been creating layers like crazy and noticed as I switch between images and create new layers, the name of the last layer created becomes the default name of the new layer being created. I have no problem with this behavior if I'm creating layers in the same image. However, if I close the first image and open or create a new one, the default name of the new layer is STILL the name of the last created layer. Is this a bug? If so, I'll open a bug report. [Gimp-user] Question about JPEG image scaling
Hi! Ok, I'm using Gimp 1.3.23 on Linux. I've got a JPEG taken by a digital camera at 1892x1992 (pixels) resolution. The Print Size Display Unit info is: Width: 26.278 in Height: 27.667 in Resolution X: 72.000 px/in Y: 72.000 px/in So, I take this to mean the image is 72dpi and could be printed to a size of 26 x 27. Now, I want to print this image as a 5x7 image so I change the Height setting in the Print Size Display Unit section to 7 and the width changs to 6.649, leaving the units in inches. The resolution then changes to 284.554 px/in. So I take this to mean the image now is the size of 6.65 inches wide and 7 inches high at 284.55 dpi. Is this correct? If I click Ok, will I now have an image which is 6.65x7 in size instead of the 26x27 I started with? If I then printed this image, would it print as a 6.65x7 image? Thanks in advance for your help! :) Peace... Tom ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Correct. Though being nitpicky, the correct term is ppi (pixels per inch). It won't actually change, but the amount of dots (or pixels, more accurately) per inch will be higher, resulting in a smaller image on paper. If I then printed this image, would it print as a 6.65x7 image? It should. It can vary slightly depending on the printer, but it should generally work out. Marco Perfect! Thanks! Peace... I don't plan to add support for vertical text until Pango supports it. Sven One way I've figured out to do this is by using the "Dynamic Text" tool. Simply choose the text tool from the toolbox, right click on the image and click "Dialogs", then "Tool Options", then make sure "Dynamic Text" is checked. Then with the text tool selected, create a new transparent layer (always a good thing to do), and click on the image and the dynamic text tool dialog should open. Choose your font, font size, and metric (points, pixels, etc). Then type the first letter and then press "Enter" then type the second letter and press "Enter", etc.. Then when done, click "Apply" and the text should appear vertically as a floating selection that you can then choose the "move tool" to move around to the final location and then anchor. At least that's worked for me :) Peace... Tom

Someone replied to his post with these instructions: 1) resize Neo to 1024 x 768 2) make a new layer 3) copy and paste matrix background into Neo picture 4) send that layer to background 5) add layer mask/reveal all from layer menu 6) select Neo layer and select all white parts with the magic wand 7) fill the selected area with BLACK , the matrix background will appear 8) apply a little Blur to the Neo Layer to blur edges 9) voila! Unfortunately, it has not been able to contact the FAQ maintainer, and the licence on the current FAQ's do not allow for modifications. If we are not able to contact Miles soon, we will have to do a clean room reimplementation of the FAQ's from scratch. The results will be placed under the GNU Free Documentation License. We have decided to do this in two parts. First, we will issue a Call for Questions. Please send in all questions you would like to have in the new Gimp User FAQ to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and CC them to the lists for discussion. Once the questions have been selected, I will arrange them and issue a Call for Answers. Please then send me a message stating your intent to write an answer, and CC it to the lists so that no one else takes that question. If I do not recieve an answer within three days, I will open that question up again. Once all the questions are answered, I will send a final draft out for comments. This is normally not a problem, since it is quite unimportant for most people. building embedded perl module... no writing Gimp/Config.pm... ok Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good So the Scheme to Perl translator is what will NOT work and Scheme support WILL work. Sorry for misleading you :) Peace.. What's this about not having Parse::RecDescent preventing Scheme from working? Can someone clue me in? FYI, Parse::RecDescent can be automagically installed using the following one-liner: perl -MCPAN -e 'install Parse::RecDescent' If you want to manually install it, it can be downloaded from: http://search.cpan.org/search?dist=Parse-RecDescent and installation is just a matter of untarring it and doing: perl *PL make make test make install # as root --beppu
Re: [Gimp-user] Help to Write How To Compile the GIMP Stable Tarball
I think I sent a blank message earlier, so here is a re-send. Sorry for the confusion about the Scheme support as related to the Parse::Descent Perl module. Here is the EXACT message I get from the configure script: invoking perl for configuration... checking for PDL support... yes checking for PDL include path... -I/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i586-linux/PDL/Core checking for PDL typemap... /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i586-linux/PDL/Core/typemap.pdl NOTICE: Parse::RecDescent not found, scm2perl, the Scheme-Perl translator, will not work. This is normally not a problem, since it is quite unimportant for most people. building embedded perl module... no writing Gimp/Config.pm... ok Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good So it looks like Scheme WILL be support but the Scheme to Perl translator will not work. Sorry for misleading you guys :) Peace Tom My DVD Collection John Beppu [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/12/02 03:46 PM To:[EMAIL PROTECTED] cc:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:Re: [Gimp-user] Help to Write How To Compile the GIMP Stable Tarball [ date ] 2002/02/12 | Tuesday | 09:51 AM [ author ] Tom Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] I tend to keep my ssytem fairly up-to-date so I don't have a lot of problems with missing libs (outside of NOT having the Parse:Descent Perl module installed which prevents Scheme support).
