I am VERY interested in this talk, however. I would first like to ask Greg if he objects to having the discussion video taped. Greg?? I encourage anyone who wants to video tape the presentation to do so. I would like to learn more about how to shoot/edit/publish such video to CD-ROM, DVD or web using Linux. If not, I would next ask if there is anyone going already that may be able to record it for me (and some of the other people who can't attend but are interested)? If you have your own recorder that would be great, but if not I could probably coordinate to lend my camera tripod (just a wee bit nervous about the risk of accidental damage, of course). If nobody else chimes in, I'll bring my digital video camera and tripod... but will be unable to operate it due to the fact that I'm presenting. Disclaimer: I don't have video lights, and can't vouch for how well it would capture low-light or on-screen images. ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss

Bill Sconce wrote: Seriously, there have been any number of meetings which people (read: me) might have sincerely desired to attend, but which were no longer possible by the time an announcement arrived a day or so before the event (or on the same day!). Or even the day AFTER a couple of times. I'm a member of a group that periodically has web get-togethers. The webmaster posts the schedule once a month. He sends out an announcement a week before for major events. He sends out a notice the day of (since it is an online thing, that's not too late). Then he sends out a notice when the event starts. It is alot of work since, AFAIK, he doesn't do any scripting. That is perfect for me. I can plan it in weeks ahead. I get a reminder that it is coming up in a few days and then a reminder that it is on that day. That is alot of work though. Just a notice a week in advance would be nice. I've seen several events I would have been interested in attending. (And I'm not generally an attending person.) But, a few hours notice, or even a day, just isn't enough time for me. -- Dan Jenkins ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Rastech Inc., Bedford, NH, USA --- 1-603-624-7272 *** Technical Support for over a Quarter Century ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss

Perhaps an encore presentation at one of the other LUGs?) Anyway, what are your thoughts on getting good attendence, and starting announcements now? I'd say go for it. We're frankly pretty short on time, but anything is significantly better then nothing. I actually have a complete press contact list for the state of NH ... If you've got it, use it. :) I'm wondering specifically if we should have a RSVP setup in case attendance exceeds capacity. MELBA Quarterly meeting announcement / advertising
At the last meeting at Martha's Exchange, Rob Lembree spoke about doing a presentation on the GIMP 2.0 (which was just released, and is now at 2.0.1). I've been hard at work getting my presentation put together, and improving my GIMP skills so that I can do a great job on the presentation. I would like to start announcing the meeting, and really aim to get a large attendance at the meeting -- giving as much publicity as possible for GNHLUG, GIMP and Free Software in general. The focus of my presentation on GIMP 2.0 is on the user who wants to learn what can you do with free software design tools (specifically GIMP and touch on the subject of what other tools like Blender and are available). Note that GIMP 2.0, and other tools *are* available for Windows and MacIntosh, so it's not only intended for a Linux audience. Since the date is only two weeks away, I would like to get feedback from the whole list. I thought I should create some graphic flyers to 'advertise' the meeting. I was thinking of themes like Stand out from the crowd, learn design on free software Anyway, what are your thoughts on getting good attendence, and starting announcements now? Would you be interested to print flyers and post them somewhere if artwork were provided? Are there any other outlets you can tap into to spread the word about the meeting? I actually have a complete press contact list for the state of NH, but prefer to make contacts through 'word of mouth' so if you participate in any other groups, please spread the word. Anyone interested in making an announcement about the meeting should wait until we have the meeting announcement message drafted (by tomorrow?). I want to coordinate with Rob Lembree and/or Dave Long to ensure that everything is setup. I'm wondering specifically if we should have a RSVP setup in case attendance exceeds capacity. My updated presentation is attached if you want to look at it and give feedback. I will not do all the tutorials, but they are listed for your convenience. I would like to know what level of GIMP user you are, so I can focus on doing appropriate demonstrations.
