Hi all, this is new user speaking ;)

I recently become the coordinator of Kazakh translation team, but I
don't have commit rights now.

So, anybody, would you be please be so kind to commit them?

where the string comes from

Good day,

While using Nautilus with Kazakh l10n,
I notice that disk volumes are named
"20 GB Volume", in my case it looks like
"20 GB томы". So the unit (MB, GB) is not localized and
I couldn't find where it comes from.
I checked nautilus, glib, gvfs, udisks - no luck.

So, where these units are translated?

Hi,

First you need to reserve it for translation, then you will see the option
to upload PO file, then you can mark it as Ready for submission,
and then only you can send it to repository. So actually there are 4 steps.

On release schedule page, I see that since Feb 18:

String Change Announcement Period: All string changes
must be announced to both gnome-i18n@  gnome-doc-list@.


However, on https://l10n.gnome.org/languages/kk/gnome-3-16/ui/
I see some changes landed in last days,
without any mention in this mailing list,

gnome games Kazakh locale removal

Good day,

I'd like to clear Kazakh (kk) locale of all gnome-games packages.

What is the preferred way to do that?

Background: I am the only translator of Kazakh language with
limited time, and gnome games have old very incomplete
Kazakh translation. I'd like to clear all of it rather than spend time
in trying to improve it.

damned lies - the l10n

[Baurzhan Muftakhidinov]

Hi,

Recently I noticed that damned lies interface has
a pieces of Kazakh translation, which, I believe,
comes from Django. My browser uses Kazakh locale.

However, the language names are also partly translated,
and I cannot find the source of it. The thing is that I noticed
couple errors.

Could you please advise where does damned lies
take translations of language names?

Sorry, I meant that I never translated damned lies and not intend to,
since I am the only user of it.
But I see some parts of it in Kazakh (I guess due to underlying Django)
and I wonder where to send fixes for those translations,

I see you are in Django commiters on Github

Actually I found the file to blame
(https://github.com/django/django/blob/master/django/conf/locale/kk/LC_MESSAGES/django.po)
However it says source repo link is
http://www.transifex.com/projects/p/django/language which
could not be opened currently - no such page on transifex.

You see, the actual typo that bothers me that they mistaken Dutch and
Danish languages

Could you advise how can I fix it (and other errors)?

D-L and git are out of sync for epiphany

Hi,

Today I tried several times to submit
an updated Kazakh translation for epiphany master branch.
However, I couldn't complete it via DL - it just stays waiting
for an answer after pressing Submit to repository.

Then I pushed my file directly to git, but web interface
is not updated with that change. In past it was updated
almost immediately.

Could someone please check? Thanks

What is the current process to request a coordinatorship
on a team? I am the current coordinator for kk,
I suppose I will need to take care of kk@latin too,

Online translation platform adoption?

Dear community and development team,

Is there any plan of adopting online translation platforms like Weblate/Pootle?

I am participating in several other open source projects as Kazakh translator,
and many (or all) of them have such a platform. Recently Fedora and
LibreOffice switched to Weblate.

Being able to contribute translations in web interfaces with one
click, would be much easier than current Damned Lies workflow. It will
allow regular, smaller contributions.

It looks like the value of having an online translation platform is
underestimated.
It would attract more contributors and ease the translation process
for existing ones (and myself).
Where to apply with such idea? Open a bug report on BugZilla?
There is nothing to invent here, Weblate is good choice, based on
adoption in LibreOffice.
I've skimmed through the board of directors candidates proposals and
no one suggested it.

Hello,

I am coming from another thread and second the adoption of Weblate.

If someone prefers to work directly on PO files, those can be
downloaded, translated and uploaded back to Weblate. It has checks for
PO files.
It has teams, permissions, terminology, translation memory, machine
translation etc. It helps *a lot* while translating.

Fedora has switched from Zanata to Weblate, and LibreOffice switched
from Pootle to Weblate too.

Currently it is the best choice we have.

Please, please consider adopting it.

 PO file checks are the same (or should be), so commiting directly is not 
 more dangerous than using DL. the same checks DL makes into a PO file are 
 done in my script, for example. If a PO file breaks your module's building 
 it doesn't matter if I committed it directly into git or usind DL.

Hi Kukuh,

What I found is https://docs.weblate.org/en/weblate-3.10/workflows.html

IMHO the Weblate's translation workflow is simpler than DL's.
While DL operates on PO file level, Weblate operates on individual messages,
which effectively makes several stages from DL workflow unnecessary.

Contributors can have suggestion or translation rights. Translations
can have checks, etc.

Refreshing DL stats if PO commited directly

Hello,

Yesterday my translation was merged via MR on gitlab to gnome-boxes. I
still see the stats are not updated on DL, could this be fixed? Is
this the same issue which prevents committing translations via DL to
gnome-boxes?
