Hi all,

I must admit I share Claude's point of view on this issue. Localisation is a 
matter for people who wish to join our community of volunteers, and accessing 
resources in their language is an added value I wish us  to provide. I came 
into GNOME though the localisation team in French and was motivated by the 
availability of resources in my language. 

Furthermore, as I accepted last year, I will spend some of my free time as a 
volunteer to maintain l10n with Claude after writing my thesis (which will come 
to an end soon). So, as Claude said, if there is Fresh Blood that wishes to 
collaborate of this, help is welcomed.

I must admit I'm also a bit unmotivated now by those moves which 
consider i18n as an optional part of GNOME.
We've also recently had issues with GTK where some strings cannot be 
extracted with our current infrastructure (1), and that make us feel 
like i18n is really a second-zone citizen of the GNOME world.


I'm not sure I'll continue dedicating my volunteer time in this context. 
But maybe some freesh blood may give a new boost to GNOME i18n, who knows?

We have lost the option to translate the main GNOME presentation
website a few years ago. Now we can not translate Release notes. This
is not a good way from the translator's point of view. Web have very
good I18N of the whole GNOME system, but we are not able to present it
to users in their native language.

Maybe someone with more experience in JS could review/check it, but I think

The repository was moved to the Community/Engagement/ namespace and the bot
doesn’t have access there. The sysadmins have been contacted to fix it.

So you filed your bug correctly, because at least the  D-L bot should
be able to commit.

Looks like figures/foo.png instead of figures/foo.png.pt_BR is shown.

I have a question about the values of gitcommits and gitauthors.

The 3.10 release notes say that 3.10 contains 35936 changes by
approximately 960 contributors [1].
And, the last 3.8 release notes say that 3.8 contains 35936
contributions by approximately 960 people [2].
Both versions have the exact same numbers of gitcommits and gitauthors.
Is this just a coincidence, or do we need to update the numbers of 3.10?

Well, just for the record, I made sure the translated images' md5sums are
correct in the PO file, and I also checked local compilation of this
module. It should be working fine.

A keyboard navigable drop-down calendar, and sliders in the system status 
menu that can be used with the appOrca/app screen reader.

It seems that in most other places there have been a concentrated effort to
remove  the application name Orca in favor og calling it simple the
screen reader (much like all these other app names like Notes and
Documents), maybe it has been missed here.

Agree. It sounds critical. We have plenty of time to translate it before

GTK+ 3.0 includes a new capacity to easily support multiple platforms (these 
can be built against simultaneously and selected at run time). This will 
make make the transition to new platforms, such as Wayland, much easier.

Probably best fix it in the english translation at this point.

 i makes sure the application is unique, and if so, what does that
 mean?

in this context, uniqueness means that each application maps to a
single process, regardless of the number of invocations from the
application launcher or the terminal; this has nothing to do with the
number of windows an application has or controls. to provide a GNOME
example: gedit and gnome-terminal are unique applications; for a
non-GNOME example: Firefox or Chrome are unique applications.

 I would like to point out some stats for 2.30+ I've been collecting regarding
 Indonesian translation.
 
 * 20100418 - stat collection started, Indonesian translation level for
 2.30 was 60% (27590/4779/13207)
 * 20100806 - major jump for 2.30, 67% (30539/4476/10055) to 82%
 (37011/2726/5333), I think because of major backports
 * 20100923 - 2.30 stays around 83% (38153/2403/4948), while 2.32 was
 at 91% (42127/784/3157)
 so I can say that Indonesian translation completion jumped from around
 60% at 2.30 release time
 to around 91% at 2.32 release time. That was around 31 points.

(resent to the list, as it might concern other teams as well)

Thanks for this insight. Indeed the l10n stats are not freezed at
release time, so if a team is progressing much after the .0 release, we
might miss those progresses.

What about this:

Translating a software package as large as GNOME into a new language
can be an overwhelming task for even the most dedicated translation
team. For this release, we would like to give a special mention to the
Indonesian team who reached the full-supported status (raising from 60%
to 91%), and the Esperanto team, raising the  completeness of their
translation by more than 10 points (currently 23% translated).
Other teams deserving mention for a special effort in this release are
Kazakh and Uighur.

I don't know if there is, but the release are only found on a
passworded webpage untill release, so you can just go ahead and
integrate and review the result there, and then do a second
integration with corrections.

I can see the point of release notes guys, but still, if I recall correctly
the username with password was posted on this mailing list for the previous
release notes and it didn't hurt anything, or I didn't heard about any
problems. So why the need now for like 30 translators to ask one by one on
IRC?

Oh, I didn't remember it was posted here, if it went fine certainly
there is no problem doing it again, I just thought it was shared on
IRC during previous releases.  It's gnome / 2.28
