FW: [Goanet]Konkani Songs(old duets)

2003-11-05 Thread ACC GENERAL - CYPRIANO

Hi Simon / Marvin,

I'll try to contact my friends over here and get the lyrics if they know until then
please bear with me.
I am sorry I also don't remember it full. Most of these old songs (duets) sung by C.
Alvares and
Star of Arossim with Mohana, Ophelia and Jessie are really beautiful, although they
are on Hindi tunes.

Regards,

Cypriano (Riyadh, KSA)

Re: [Goanet]Re: Holiday Insurance -- Reply (Xmas Time Tickets to GOA)

2003-11-05 Thread JperGOA
Xmas time ticket to GOA are always very expensive be it by charter flight or schedule
flt (due to school holidays here uk).

Right now one can get for £800 per person with 3 star hotel BB(no flt only).

however, there are for two weeks for just £505 with hotel but returning back on
Boxing day
Who would like to take this? hence very cheap.

Going early Dec and come back before Xmas, one can expect a good bargain.

But this year, Ex manchester tickets seems much cheaper than EX-LGW or no LGW at all.

Thanks

Re: [Goanet]The saint business (Filomena Giese)

2003-11-05 Thread Filomena Giese
Dear Evans,
Now you really sound like a Protestant! Is there a
name for someone who is in-between being a Catholic
and a Protestant? That would describe a lot of
Catholics.
This Pope has completely stifled all discussion on the
topics you have outlined. Catholics mostly are living
a different reality from what the conservative
teachings say. I did go into the corridors of the
Vatican in the year 2000 (not just once, but 3
times!)to canvass for the Joseph Vaz canonization, and
went to services, the Papal audience etc. - my
overriding impression was that the place was run by
white, male, mostly aged or aging clerics, and not one
woman in any position of power and decision-making
authority,that I could see anyway!
It's definitely a bastion of white, aging male (dare I
say male menopausal) privilege! They don't speak the
ordinary language of you and me
There's little hope of changing their agenda. Why
worry, we can only live our own good life and do good
works, and chuckle at the incongruity of it all.
Filomena

Dear Miguel,
We need you for Vice-Postulator of the Cause of Bl.
Joseph Vaz - you understand the business and "vice"
aspect of canonizations! But, on the other hand, if
we send you to the Vatican, they would give you a
Cardinal's hat and the private bank account that goes

[Goanet]FUNDS ( AWARDS FOR TIATRISTS )

2003-11-05 Thread JoeGoaUk

I agree with Mr. Patrick De Souza...

It a good idea. It will not only encourage the
present but the future would be Tiatrists too.

The fund amount may not be Rs.50 lacs. I am sure it
can be done with half of that amount. Each year Max.
2 Tiatrists can be honoured (so that we continue this
every year)

In order to set the ball rolling..
I promise to contribute atleast repeat atleast
Rs.7000/ towards the fund.

Hope other Tiatr or Konkani lovers will come forward
too.

Thanks,

Joegoauk.

Quote:
The idea that occurred to me was to start a fund by
requesting for contributions from overseas goans and
to utilize this fund to honor our tiatrist who have
kept this art alive. Something on lines of lifetime
awards that other film industries honor their artists.

I volunteered to contribute Rs. 10,000/- to set the
ball rolling with promise to make similar contribution
every year. Veronica replied saying the idea was good
but wanted to know who would do it.

Why should we wait for the Govt. to honout our
artists, shouldn't we do it on our own. My offer still
stands good if any Goa related organisation is willing
to take the idea forward and make it into a reality.

We could hold this event once every year probably at
the annual NRI convention or some other Goa related
day. The selection of an artist can be decided by a
commitee to be set up by the organisation who is
shouldering the responsibilty. The committee should be
honorary with no social blemishes.

Nominations can be made and Goans can be asked to send
in their votes either thru postal mail or the net. The
nominations is to be strictly on lines of the number
of years an artist has completed on the Goan stage,
the quality of his work and seniority with no
religious bais whatsoever. A minimum requirement of 12
to 15 years to be nominated should be the basis.
People can also be asked to contribute their thoughts
and ideas how to go about doing this.

To achieve a targeted amount, funds can be collected
for a whole year and a fixed sum such as Rs 50 lakh
set aside in deposits and the interest earned can be
the amount that will go to the selected artist along
with a plaque, certificate and a shawl. The first such
award function can be held within 6 months to a year
on attaining the target.

If someone or some organisation can take this idea
forward please do so. I need no credit for the idea.
As promised my contributions will be regular till the
target is achieved. If not I have idea to start on an
individual basis in a local school in the village of
birth of the great Miguel Rod, someday in the future.

Are the Colacos, the Pintos, the Gomes listening? Is
any organisation willing to take this idea forward?

Sincerely,
Patrick De Souza

Re: [Goanet]Veneration of Saints - a pagan tradition?

2003-11-05 Thread Filomena Giese
Dear Jaime,
I seriously doubt that most Catholics or anyone else
worship the idol of a saint -
This veneration of saints is a form of ancestor
worship. It is only one of many "pagan" traditions in
organized religions, not just Christianity. The
separation of "pagan" and "Christian" is artificial as
Christians adopted many of the cultural and religious
motifs from those "pagans" they converted. Canonizing
someone as an official saint does not make them an
idol. Canonization is the Church's organized process
of making that person a model of Christian faith and
love for the entire, universal Church. We Goans feel
that we have produced such outstanding models and we
want them officially and justly recognized just like
Mother Teresa, who, incidentally, doesn't have the
monopoly of faith, Christian charity and love!
Mother Teresa didn't just arise out of a vacuum in
India. She and the Catholic Church benefitted from
the labors and sacrifices of Indian Catholic men and
women like Father Joseph Vaz who took the hard knocks
of past centuries to build the Church up.
So, it's high time that the Church acknowledged Indian
saints who made the even bigger sacrifices of working
under persecution, not just white missionaries in
India.

Re: [Goanet]Re: The saint business

2003-11-05 Thread Filomena Giese
Mervyn,
You are a case in point why we need canonizations for
Fathers Joseph Vaz and Agnelo.
You are excused for not knowing too much about our
Goan ancestors as you come from Tanzania (I read your
earlier post). But when our own Goan sons and
daughters say that they know nothing about Joseph Vaz
and others and that it means that Goa didn't produce
Christian saints, we know we are in trouble!
I will gather together some quotes about Joseph Vaz to
show you what an outstanding saint and pioneer he was.
Canonization is one way of recording and re-telling
our history. But we can do other things to memorialize
our great Goans.
As Goa is multi-religious and multi-cultural, I would
encourage other Goans, Hindu,Buddhist, Moslem,
atheist, agnostic, to tell us something about their
models and pioneers. Many of us already feel, as the
writer of the Toronto Star noted, that sainthood is
universal and shared, that we can honor all saints.
Secondly, we Goans should be thinking about George
Pinto's suggestion that we find our own way to honor
our saints, not leave it all to Rome. We lament
corruption, wars, and evils - but what do we do to
honor the goodness, love, charity, service that Goans
do?
I recently saw the Memorial to the new Martyrs,
including Oscar Romero, in Westminister Abbey, put up
for the millenium year 2000. England is full of
statues to their notables so that their history rubs
off on even the most mindless Englishman and visitor.
But there is very little public reminder of the deeds
and lives of Goans for the visitor to see in Goa. I
suggest that we increase our visibility so we are not
simply forgotten.

Dear Stevan Ferros,

Why is it that only catholics have a 'purgatory', get 'indulgences' from the
church through prayer or sacrifice ...or buy it cash down through "bull"
{bulas} ? Or is this all cock and bull of the saint business?

We need to grow up...the world is getting smarterPope John Paul-II has
even officially accepted that the world goes round the Sun[not the other
way round that the church had us believe all these years]. Now which of the
two Popes was infallible: the one who made the 'dogma' or the one that
accepted the truth?

And why should we not discuss the subject on Goanet when 1.it concerns most
goanetters...and 2. no non-catholic goanetter has protested[that it violates
his freedom of religion] so far?

[Goanet]High Court notices to Goa Govt. on beach shacks.

HC notices to Govt. on erection of shacks
 ---

The Panaji bench of Bombay High Court on Monday issued notice
to the state government and others on a petition filed by Fomento
Resorts and Hotels Limited to restrain the government from
permitting erection of shacks at Vaiguinim beach.

It is right and proper that they should object, some one in the Govt.
has screwed up badly!

[Goanet]Konkani Lessons in the GTA - Dinner celebration

2003-11-05 Thread Tim de Mello
A dinner was held at The Flaming Copper Pot Restaurant in Mississauga on
October 17 to celebrate the successful conclusion of the first phase of
sixteen two hour weekly Konkani lessons in the GTA. Most of the fourteen
students who completed the course attended. As usual, the food and the
ambience was excellent and complemented by just as good service. The new
proprietor, Mr. Felix D'Souza (an Anjuncar, I am proud to say) has
maintained the standard set by Mr. Gerry Gomes.

The occasion was also used as a debriefing session in order to asses what
worked well and what areas could be improved upon. The following is a
summary of the points discussed.

1. Most felt that the best feature of the classes was the social and
convivial atmosphere of the classes. "We were amongst friends and had a lot
of fun" said Corrine.

2. The break after the first hour of the two hour session was felt to be
too long and the snacks tended to get more elaborate as the weekly classes
progressed. In future, the break would be no more than 10 minutes with just
cookies and water offered.

3. Another suggestion was to separate the class into two groups -
Beginners, i.e. those who are being introduced to the language for the first
time and Intermediate, i.e. those who have some knowledge of the language.
This way the lessons can be focussed appropriately.

4. The classes were originally meant to focus on "colloquial Konkani".
However, this was not the case as it was felt that written and read Konkani
would be more beneficial to the learning process. This proved to be more
academic than practical and also more difficult than anticipated -
particularly as there is no standard way to spell (or pronounce) Konkani in
Roman script. One suggestion was to devote more time for students to
appreciate the nuances of Indian sounds as defined by the Devanagri script.
This did not find a lot a favour with the group as this would be difficult
for the uninitiated. Another suggestion was that the classes in the future
concentrate on short and simple spoken Konkani phrases and sentences and
dispense with the reading and writing part. This way, the students will be
better equipped to use what they learned in a practical way.

Post meeting note: In my discussions about our Konkani lessons with an
associate of the Goan Konkani Troupe, the last point of "short and simple
Konkani phrases . . ." was supported and reinforced by him saying that the
students should be immersed into a Konkani speaking session where no English
is spoken except by the tutor.

The next session of classes is planned for the fall of 2004.

Stay tuned.

RESPONSE: I have seen your photograph and you look like two pieces of plank
stuck together. A fatwa should be issued and you should be sorted out
immediately. The G.O.A. (U.K.) are celebrating the feast of St. Francis
Xavier in December - perhaps you should advise them according to your
beliefs.

On another matter, your take up for the G.O.A. (U.K.). that they have legal
advice is all lies. I have asked the Goan Association U.K. to furnish me
with a copy of the advice.
They have not even had the courtesy to acknowledge my email letter. There is
no legal advice, at least not in writing and one which will stand up to
scrutiny.

Cheers,

Marlon,

I am sorry but you cannot qualify as a saint because:

1. You do not have powers to grant a 'son' to couples.
2. You cannot magically make us rich.

Therefore, you have been disqualified as a saint.

You application will remain on file for a period of six months during which you may
be considered for any opening, including the position of Satan, should it get
vacant.

[Goanet]Sports News: Salgaocar, Mahindra in semis

2003-11-05 Thread Eustaquio Santimano
Salgaocar, Mahindra in semis
November 05, 2003 19:57 IST
Veteran striker I M Vijayan played perhaps his last match at the
Ambedkar stadium as his team JCT drew goalless with Mahindra United and
bowed out of the Durand Cup football tournament in Delhi on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Salgaocar defeated crowd favourites Mohammedan
Sporting 2-0 to advance to the semi-final as Group C winners.

Mahindra edged out the Punjab team on better goal difference in Group A
and qualified for the semi-finals, where they will meet Salgaocar n Friday.

Going into today's match after a 1-1 draw against TFA XI in their first
match, Mohammedan Sporting had to win to advance, but faded away after
holding the Goans goalless almost till the hour mark.

The Goans scored through Dharamjit Singh (59th minute) and Nigerian
Felix Ibrebru (73rd minute) to advance.

Mahindra were clearly better than JCT though the 36-year-old Vijayan,
who announced his retirement from national team after winning the
Afro-Asian Games silver medal in Hyderabad last week, went close to
scoring more than once. But the lanky striker was not in the best of
form and was closely marked by Peter Siddiqui.

Unable to do much in the first-half, Vijayan, however, had a better
second session. Immediately after coach Sukhwinder Singh changed
Vijayan's striking partner in the 58th minute, replacing Harbinder Singh
with Charanjeet Singh, Vijayan put the substitute through with a deft
back heel but Charanjeet managed only a weak shot from inside the box.

In the 22nd minute of the second-half, Vijayan almost troubled the
scorers by getting into position at the top of the box. However, his
powerful right- footer was parried away by Mahindra 'keeper Naseem Akhtar.

Soon he earned a free-kick after the referee pulled up Siddiqi for an
untidy challenge. Substitute Rampal's kick went to Charanjeet, who only
managed to effect a weak header.

Vijayan had another chance ten minutes before the end of the match,
which came in the form of a free-kick, but he only managed to shoot over
the bar following a minute-long drama which saw the Mahindra wall moving
before the referee's whistle, leading to an yellow card to Sidiqqi.

As the match grinded towards the final whistle, Charanjeet went up
skillfully through the right and sent in a piercing cross that ran
across the goalmouth with Vijayan a couple of yards in front of the ball.

Compared to JCT's forward line Mahindra strikers, Raphael Patron and
Abhishek Yadav, had more pace and constantly troubled the JCT defence.
But for goalkeeper Mansuru Mohammed's superb performance, the Mumbai
team would have comfortably won the match. Felix Aboagye, who repalced
Yadav in the second half, also threatened but failed to score.

Salgaocar and Mohammedan Sporting ended the first-half on even terms but
the Goans were clearly the better team in the last 45 minutes, which
began with a combined move down the middle by Dharamjit Singh, Tomba
Singh and Ibrebru. The trio neatly evaded the offside trap and went
inside only to miss due to poor finishing.

Salgaocar's first goal resulted following a combined move by Tomba Singh
and Dharamjit that resulted in a corner-kick immediately after a free-kick.

Tomba floated in the ball to Dharamjit , who gave a slip to his marker
and slotted home.

Both teams then brought in fresh legs, with Salgaocar calling up Samson
Singh in place of F Mascarenhas and Sporting replacing Abdul Rauf Khan
with Zahir Abbas.

By this time, Salgaocar began to control the midfield and allowed
Sporting hardly any possession.

The second goal resulted after a passing bout near the centre circle.
The ball was relayed to Tomba, who advanced into the rival box and found
Ibrebru with a precise pass. The Nigerian side-stepped the defence and
fired home before leaping up with joy.

It was a sweet moment for Ibrebru, who was kept quiet till then by the
Sporting defenders, especially Mahab Das.

[Goanet]Sports News: Bhutia slams cramped Durand schedule

2003-11-05 Thread Eustaquio Santimano
Bhutia slams cramped Durand schedule
November 05, 2003 16:02 IST
India football captain Baichung Bhutia hit out at the organizers of the
Durand Cup, saying there is no use holding the tournament just for the
sake of it.

"It is the second oldest tournament in the world and it should be
organised in a better way. It should be more lengthy and more organised.

"It has to have some interest. There is no use organizing it just for
the sake of it," Bhutia said, slamming the cramped schedule that packs
15 matches in 10 days with 12 teams in the fray.

Bhutia was also critical of the All India Football Federation's football
calendar, which gives players no respite.

Last week the football ace was in Hyderabad doing national duty at the
Afro-Asian Games, where he led India to the silver medal. India lost to
Uzbekistan 0-1 in the final.

On Sunday he played in the Kolkata League play-off against Mohun Bagan
before rushing to play in Delhi for East Bengal in the 116th Durand Cup.

He also expressed unhappiness about the treatment being meted out to
players at the Durand Cup.

"They should provide proper infrastructure and facilities for the
players to practice and also proper transport for them to go for play
and practice," Bhutia said after helping East Bengal beat Indian Bank in
their opening fixture of the tournament on Tuesday.

He said the Indian Army, which conducts the tournament, must work
closely with the All India Football Federation and organise the
tournament better.

"Look at the FA Cup of England [the oldest football tournament]. Where
it started and where it has reached," Bhutia said, comparing the oldest
and second oldest tournaments in the world.

"It is high time that people did some thing to change," he said.

2003-11-05 Thread Gregory Gomes
Dear Brothers/sisters,

There is only one God and definetly there is only one
truth and that truth is Christ Jesus, who was existing
at the time of creation (Jesus said I am the first and
the last "Alpha and Omega".

One can say this only if he/she is not aware about the
truth (that is the Word of God - BIBLE).

I pray that you will read the Bible which will set you
free, and one can have salvation ONLY THROUGH JESUS
who is there to come for the second time.

FW: [Goanet]Playing with FIRE

2003-11-05 Thread ACC GENERAL - CYPRIANO

Hi Seby,

Performing 'Sati" has been abolished long time back by Raja Ram Mohan Roy if I am not
mistaken. I don't think it is still existing.
But setting fire to daughter in laws nowadays for want of dowry and then changing the
whole scene as an accident, I can fully
agree with.

Even in their marriages "Muhurt" - the couple take rounds by keeping "agni" fire in
the middle while their Bhattji saying those mantras, which is a common scene in a
Hindi movie. Is it "Agni Sakshi"?

[Goanet]State award to aldonkar Alfred Rose.

2003-11-05 Thread Miguel Braganza
Dear Veronica,

You have rightly pointed out that Tomazinho Cardoz could have moved matters
while he was the Speaker of Goa Assembly...and Alfi was alive. So could
Pratapsingh Raoji Rane[ many times the CM of Goa and chairman of Kala
Academy], Churchil Alemao[ex-CM who only speaks Konkani...even in the
parliament...and had a translator appointed for Konkani in the Lok
Sabha],Luis Proto Barbosa,Francisco Sardinha,Ravi Naik,etc. During
Bandodkar's time Alfi was no great shake and Shashikala can be excused as
she is a Marathiwadi. What about others before Parrikar?

" Three countries in which Homer begged;
Fought over the legacy of Homer dead."

Goa wants to honour him. May be Mumbai will do likewise. Perhaps he will get
the Bharat Ratna if his name can get votes in Mangalore or NRI votes
anywhere.C'est la vie,n'est pas? Like it or lump it.

Any living tiatrists being considered for the state award now or do we wait
for their death as in 'sainthood'?
Viva Goa.

Soon after the death of Alfred Rose, chief Minister of Goa Mr. Parrikar
announced thru his Master's Voice Tomazinho Cardoso that Goa Government
will confer on late Alfred Rose
> phostumously the Goa Stage Award for his meritorious services in the field
of Tiatro. Shame on you Parrikar for announcing this gift to Alfi after his
death. Doubly shame on you Parrikar to confess that for so long you were
not aware of the criteria followed in granting this award to the tiatrists.
Only the Goa based tiatrists are given this award while Goan tiatrists based
outside Goa are made ineligible for this award because according to the
criteria to be eligible for this award one has to be a domicile of Goa
 (minimum 10 years continuously?).

These are the tiatrists who hampered the growth of Konkani tiatro, their
motto is "apun apleak ani Dev somestank."anim " Mojem sadlea puro,

[Goanet]Fw: BMX meet at St.Britto HS

2003-11-05 Thread Miguel Braganza
Mea culpa. here it goes again...in plain text.
- Original Message -

BMX group begins formal interaction for World BMX meet
in July 2004 at Toronto-Canada.

It was 'back to school' for Britto boys who passed out from St.Britto HS in
the late 1960s and the 1970s. What more could they have asked for but to
have St. Mary's girls to share a class room with them. It would have been an
earth-shaking experience had it happened in their school days. At this
meeting it was just a hand shake or an ocassional peck on the cheek. The
group recalled the school days while looking forward to a grand reunion at
the end of July,2004, in Toronto Canada.

The idea of BMX, an association of all ex-students of Britto's, Mary's and
Xavier's---the BMXers was born in a restaurant in Toronto when Lucindo
Faria from Morod-Mapusa was talking with ex-Britto boys settled down in
Canada. Obviously, quite a few of them are married to Ex-St.Mary's Convent
girls and ,often, both of them had studied in St.Xavier's College,Mapusa. So
BMX was an unifying factor for
Mapshemkars,Saligaokars,Parrikars,Aldonkars,Moidekars,Asnodkars,Revodkars,Si
olkars,Anjunkars,Arporkars,Calangutkars and the others, with or without
cars! Even students of New Goa High School[Amonkar's],SFX HS[Peddem],Sacred
Heart[Parra] and other nearby schools get included through their association
with St.Xavier's College,Mapusa, which celebrates it Ruby anniversary this
year.

A meeting was convened by Lucindo Faria at St.Britto High School on Sunday
the 2nd November,2003 at 11.00 hours to discuss the plans for a grand
reunion in Canada in July 2004. Ralph [Ralfy] had flown in from Toronto to
present the Canadian view of the event.Visa's, travel, local travel, stay and
interactions have to be organized. This was discussed thread bare. One of
the BMXers present was Ralph de Souza of the deSouza Group, which includes
the Trans-Orient travel agency, He has offered to arrange air tickets
without charging the agent's commission and getting the best package deals
from the airlines. The BMXers in Canada need to help with the Visas for the
others, specially the first time visitors to Canada in the post 9/11
scenario. The interaction will continue.

For details please contact Lucindo Faria at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

[Goanet]Kenya born, Toronto novelist, M.G. Vassanji, becomes first repeat winner of Giller prize -His book set in colonial Kenya in the 1950s

2003-11-05 Thread John J. D'Souza

CHARLA JONES/TORONTO STAR
Toronto novelist M.G. Vassanji emerges triumphant last night at the Giller
gala: "This time it's obviously a mistake," he joked.

Vassanji wins 2nd Giller
Toronto novelist becomes first repeat winner His book set in colonial Kenya
in the 1950s

Toronto Star

JUDY STOFFMAN
PUBLISHING REPORTER

M.G. Vassanji became the first two-time winner of the Giller Prize for
Canadian literature last night for his novel, The In-Between World of Vikram
Lall.
"It felt like a mistake the first time, so this time it's obviously a
mistake," said Vassanji as he sheepishly accepted the award, which some
believed was a lock for either the higher-profile Margaret Atwood for her
novel Oryx and Crake, or Anne-Marie MacDonald for As the Crow Flies.
But the Giller, over its 10-year history, has produced surprises before. By
no means a lifetime achievement award or a further canonization of the
literary establishment, the Giller has also reached out to smaller press and
less known authors particularly in its nominations. In 2000, the prize was
shared by two authors, Michael Ondaatje and David Adams Richards.
The In-Between World of Vikram Lall, Vassanji's fifth novel, is the story of
Vic, an Indian-born Kenyan exiled to a small town on the shores of Lake
Ontario. From his Canadian vantage point, Vic reflects back on his life in
British-ruled Kenya, the complexities of his past, and the choices that
shaped his life.
Bruce Westwood, Vassanji's agent, said he had already made a couple of
foreign deals for the book. "Sonny Mehta of Knopf (in New York) started the
book on Sunday, cancelled his lunch appointment Monday (to keep reading),
cancelled his dentist appointment Tuesday, and on Wednesday made a
pre-emptive offer high enough so we can't deal with any other publisher," he
said.
The book has also been sold to Cannongate Publishing in the U.K. - the same
publisher that took Yann Martel's Life of Pi and helped make it into a
Booker Prize winner.
Vassanji, while perhaps not the pre-Giller favourite, is hardly an unknown
quantity. He won the inaugural Giller prize in 1994 for his novel The Book
Of Secrets. It helped vault his career to greater reknown.
While there are indeed older Canadian literary awards - not to mention
richer ones, like the Gelber and the Griffin prizes - none have excitement,
glitter and prestige of the 10-year-old, $25,000 Giller.
Maybe it's because the prize is delivered alongside an indulgent,
money-is-no-object affair that has become the highlight of the Canadian
literary community's year. But it is also embued with a deep personal
significance: As the Giller recognizes literary achievement, it also
commemorates a great love affair.
The $25,000 prize was founded by businessman Jack Rabinovitch as his Taj
Mahal, a monument to the memory of his late wife Doris Giller, who died of
cancer in 1993.

[Goanet]MATHANY'S METANOIA ???

2003-11-05 Thread goasuraj
MATANHY CRITICAL OF BRO PLANS
(5TH NOVEMBER, 2003 (Page 3)
Gomantak Times News Service

Cortalim: Matanhy Saldanha, MLA of Cortalim, has said the Border Road
Organisation (BRO) has failed to keep up its promise to complete the road up
to the airport before 2 October.

Worse still it does not appear there is any planning to link the existing
village roads to the 4-lane National Highway 17B. People using the existing
highway are put to great hardship for the last three years.

Saldanha said that the road from Sancoale to St. Jacinto, linking to NH 17b
is presently in disarray due to increased height of the NH 17b. He has
demanded that the level of the existing road be raised in such a way, that
there should be a smooth flow of traffic from the existing St. Jacinto road
to NH 17b.

The delay in completion of the road is mainly caused due to the diversion of
alignment from the existing Zuarinagar road to the present site. It has not
only escalated cost but also caused difficulties giving BRO an excuse for
the delay.

Saldanha has called upon the BRO, Stup Consultants and PWD to immediately
build a service road or else the number of punctures on the existing 4-lane
highway will cause more accidents than ever before.

COMMENTS:

Nowhere else is the state of fragmentation and disarray in the UGDP
Legislature Party more apparent than that Mr. Mathany Saldanha, the sole
legislator of the UGDP ( the other two having split and formed their own
factions) is painted into a position of being the sole "CONSCIENTIOUS
OBJECTOR" to the ways of the ruling coalition, which Mathany has
consistently refused to join right from the time he was elected on the UGDP
ticket.

We commend his courageous stance and his fortitude in resisting the
trappings of office in the ruling coalition. Perhaps Mathany is begining to
express his suffocation.

Is this the sign of " MATHANY'S METANOIA (MATHANY'S CHANGE OF HEART) ?"
Only time will tell.

[Goanet]Sponsored Weddings - a good idea for Goa?

2003-11-05 Thread Cecil Pinto
Some couples who want to save thousands of dollars on their weddings are
turning to sponsorships, NBC5's Amy Jacobson said in a special report.

Experts told Jacobson that couples wanting a sponsored wedding should
target smaller companies who want to get their names and products out to a
large crowd.

"Angelique and Richard Burnsman had a $10,000 wedding for free after
winning a contest on a local radio station," Jacobson said. "The flowers,
tuxedoes, cake and her signature dress were all paid for."

Without a contest winning, Jacobson said, the average couple has to endure
much more to get a company to pay for their wedding.

Tony and Brandy Bizzieri, of Oak Lawn, Ill., told Jacobson they tried
unsuccessfully to get sponsored but learned that it takes almost one year
-- and plenty of legwork -- to line up the sponsors.

Another couple, Tom and Sabrina Anderson, told Jacobson they were more
successful. They had a "dream wedding -- top of the line," they told
Jacobson, even though most of it was paid for.

"Probably 80 percent of our wedding was sponsored," Tom Anderson said.

The food, the veil, and even the wedding bands were donated by local
businesses, in return for advertising at the reception. Their invitations
had a vendor's logo on the back of the card.

"We had a scroll at each place setting, with all the different sponsors,"
Sabrina Anderson said.

"We actually had T-shirts printed up with each vendor's logo on the back."

Tom Anderson published a book about sponsored weddings and now helps other
couples, including Todd Weiss and Debbie Lay, who plan to marry in June.

Weiss told Jacobson that the search for sponsors is not an easy road.

"I actually got some negative comments from people, just saying that 'I
can't believe you're doing this. If you can't afford a wedding, maybe you
shouldn't get married,'" Weiss said. "I didn't realize that money was one
of the big precursors of love."

But Weiss and Lay "have made finding sponsors an art form," Jacobson said.
"Their main tool is the Internet."

Jacobson reviewed the results of their search for sponsors before
explaining how they did it.

The reception hall -- normally $4,000 -- will cost them half that amount.
Four microbrewery kegs -- normally $200 each -- will be free. The cake --
normally $500 -- will be free. The baker told Jacobson she saw it as an
opportunity to get her name out in the community without gambling on
expensive advertising. His titanium ring -- normally $1,000 -- will be
free. The disc jockey, photographer and videographer -- a package worth
$4,500 -- will be free.

"It kind of brings together a group of 100, 200 guests, and sponsors
present the best that they have to offer," Weiss said.

Weiss and Lay told Jacobson the steps they took to acquire the sponsorships.

The couple solicited from all over the county. The couple sent out
information packets. The couple set up a Web site and posted sponsors'
names on it.

By using the Internet, the couple told Jacobson, they avoided large banners
at their wedding. "We're not going to have big banners or anything like
that. It's a little placard here, a little placard there," Weiss said.
"We're having a little slide presentation of pictures of us. As the credits
roll, it will be credits for the sponsors."

Weiss and Lay have already saved $15,000 for their upcoming wedding and are
now looking for a sponsored honeymoon package.

[Goanet]RECOGNITION OF GOAN STAGE ACTRESSES/SINGERS OF YESTER YEARS

2003-11-05 Thread domnic fernandes
Just as I wrote yesterday about the famous male quintet of the late
sixties/early seventies, there were also main female actresses/singers who
entertained the Konkani speaking masses in Goa, Bombay and abroad through
their participation in tiatros. They were, to name a few, Shalini,
Filomena, Ophelia, Antonette, Betty Fernandes, Betty Naz and Jessie Dias.
These females are based in Bombay except for Jessie Dias and Mary Vaz who
reside in Goa. All of these females have done a great service to Goan stage
and culture, which cannot be repaid in any form. Nevertheless, it would be
great if all of them were recognized in some way or another.

And, of course, there are many more that rose to fame in later years. Let
us keep in mind that we are talking of only “Tiatros” at this point and not
“Khell-Tiatros”, which actually, ultimately overpowered and overtook the
former (thanks to late Rosario Rodrigues for the introduction of Non-Stop
Khell-Tiatro on stage), but that does not mean that we should forget the old
and patronize only the new. They too will get their turn when the time is
ripe, and make them eligible for recognition. What we are trying to do now
is to convey a message to the Goa government so that a system is devised
whereby all of our actors and actresses, writers and directors, whether old
or new, would be eligible for recognition by the Goa government without any
prerequisites (certificate of permanent residence in Goa) as introduced by
today’s wise, leading politicians in Goa.

Here we have another rather tricky issue pertaining to one of the above
actresses – Betty Naz. During the above-cited period (late sixties/early
seventies), the famous male quintet I wrote about yesterday split for some
reason, and the usual dirty term “Tem/to aslear, aum/ami nachonant” began
playing major role. C. Alvares did not agree with the term. So, he walked
out of the group and joined other artistes like Bab Peter, Joe Rose, Rico
Rod, Seby Coutinho, etc. In the process, Ophelia and Jessie Dias also joined
him. Thus, there was a shortage of female actresses in the original group
and this is where Betty Naz filled in. Being a Mangalorean, Betty initially
had a little problem with Goan dialect but she quickly made up for the
deficiency and went on to become one of the finest actresses and singers of
the Goan stage. She has been in the limelight of Goan stage for over three
decades and has won the praise and admiration of the public in Goa, Bombay
and abroad. However, she is neither a Goan by birth nor does she have a
residence in Goa. So, where does she fit? Can she ever hope to be
recognized by the Goa government for her contribution to Goan stage/culture?

GOA HIT BY POWER FAILURE: A suspected fault in the Maharashtra State
Electricity Board system led to a power failure for more than three hours in
large parts of Maharashtra and some areas of neighbouring Goa and Gujarat
yesterday. The power supply was disrupted between 10.40 am and 4.30 pm.

KAMAT WARNS OF POWER SHORTAGE: Power Minister Digambar Kamat said that for
the past 46 days, some disturbances were observed in the power supply to the
State due to the closing down of the western grid Corba unit. Mr Kamat also
informed that the Ramagundam power generation unit in the southern grid has
been shut down for maintenance from November 4 and would remain so for the
next 25 days. "This may cause some hardships to the power consumers in the
State. However, the electricity department is making efforts to see that the
domestic power supply is maintained, he observed. (NT)

PASSENGERS HURT IN ACID ATTACK: At least nine passengers were injured by
acid from a bottle which was accidentally smashed in a fight between drivers
of two mini buses at the KTC bus stand in Curchorem yesterday. The fight
broke out after a collision between mini-buses 'Olgita' and 'Vailankani'.

FOOD POISONING KILLS LABOURER: One labourer died and four were reported to
be in a serious condition as a result of food poisoning yesterday. The five
were working for the Border Road Organisation which is constructing the
four-lane highway between Verna and Mormugao Port Trust Harbour. (GT)

OLD GMC COMPLEX TO HOUSE IFFI OFFICE: The International Film Festival of
India office will be set up in the Goa Medical College old premises at
Campal in Panjim at 6 pm today (November 6), while an advertisement for
recruitment of staff has already been issued. (GT)

'CLUB CLASS' BRINGS HIGH SPENDING TOURISTS: Starting this year, airlines
operating out of Europe have introduced a new 'Club Class' section for high
spending passengers. By doing so, the charter companies have effectively
eaten into the shares of economy or 'cattle class' seats and raised the
standard of Goa, as a holiday destination. Speaking to GT, De Souza Group
chairman and Travel and Tourism Association of Goa vice president, Ralph de
Souza explained. (GT)

ILLEGAL SHACKS MUSHROOM: The State government has permitted around 75 shacks
in the coastal belt of Anjuna, Baga, Calangute and Candolim. But another
30-40 shacks have mushroomed illegally at every open space and more people
are likely to follow suit. The Tourism department authorities are finding it
difficult to take action as those who have put up shacks illegally claim
that they have been permitted by their political masters. (NT)

ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTIONS AT AGONDA: Illegal constructions have been sprouting
on the Agonda coastal belt, Canacona, in total violation of the Coastal
Regulation Zone. Work on five projects is in progress and they are being
built just 50 to 60 meters from the High Tide Line. (GT)

STATE RE-SURVEY: At last, the re-survey of the State of Goa seems set for a
take-off after a delay of more than a year. The land survey (a Rs.7.8-crore
project) will commence on December 1 in Panjim. "It will be a highly
comprehensive and development-oriented survey," Director of Settlement and
Land Records, Mihir Vardhan told Herald. (H)

AFTER A TANKER TURNED TURTLE: It was an unusual sight when scores of people
began rushing with cans, buckets and bottles towards a gutter near the
Kundil factory at Kundaim on Wednesday morning. People made a desperate bid
to collect kerosene which was flowing into a gutter, after a tanker carrying
kerosene turned turtle at Kundaim, when the driver lost control of the
vehicle. (H)

ACTION PLAN FOR DENGUE: The State government has formulated a two-point
programme to deal with dengue in the wake of two deaths reported in the
State. Officials have noted that Ponda appears to be emerging as the
epicenter of the dengue attacks, with five of the eleven cases in Goa
originating in Ponda. The vector control measures include spraying of areas
of storage of water and preventing people from allowing water to collect in
their yards. (H)

Zoivonta Porobo's re- appointment as President of GAT: Contempt petition
filed

A Contempt of Court petition has been filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues before
the Panaji Bench of the Bombay High court against the Government of Goa on
the recent re-appointment of Mr Zoivonta Esvonta Porobo as President of Goa
Administrative Tribunal (GAT).

Mr. Porobo had resigned as President of GAT after the Panaji bench of the
Bombay high court on 19th September 2002 quashed and set aside his
appointment on a Public Interest Litigation filed by Adv Rodrigues. Mr.
Porobo was later appointed as Joint Secretary Law by the Goa Government and
has now been re-appointed as President GAT. Porobo was selected by a
three-member panel comprising of Chairman of Goa Public Service Commission
Mr. Avinash Vaze, former Law Secretary Mr. V.P Shetye and former Additional
Advocate General Vilas Thali.

Adv Rodrigues had earlier in a representation to the Chief Justice of the
Bombay High Court submitted that in the case of appointment of the President
of Goa Administrative Tribunal, it was incumbent that the Government of Goa
associate the High Court in the selection process itself and that a Judge of
the High Court or a nominee of the Chief Justice of the High Court had to be
on the selection committee from the inception and that such a judge or
nominee of the Chief Justice had to preside over the selection committee and
that his opinion on the selection process should have primacy. Adv
Rodrigues had also submitted that the Government of Goa cannot on its own
select a candidate for the post of the President of Administrative Tribunal
and then consult the High Court in the matter of appointment as a mere
formality only.

You cannot be a master of all trades, Antonio Veronica Fernandes of Candolim.
Forget that, it is shame to read your tirade of abusive articles on this forum.

A shameless writer writes and writes and writes but he is real shameless writer
because he does not know what he writes. This is the sorry state of the mentally
disturbed Antonio Veronica Fernandes. It is shame to call him a writer. The
Novem Goem Funds had gone in the wrong hands and crooks like Antonio Veronica
Fernandes and his associates in the so-called Kuwait Konkani Kendra and NGP have
dissolved a huge amount in lakhs and swindled it to their benefits. The Novem
Goem is dead, but some of the crooks like Antonio Veronica Fernandes have gone
scott free who has betrayed the Goan audience and even called them 'rostad'
while he enjoyed himself and his croonies on free passes and complimentaries.
Imagine you are inviting people for your shows and calling them rostad to your
audience. Is this what you learnt? Where are the funds, and if not you, Antonio
Veronica Fernandes, who is accountable?

Playing your sodanchem rengteteng of 'I did this and you did this' is of no use,
as people know your mean mentality.

By pointing fingers to others you cannot hide your misdeeds and divided the Goan
and Mangalorean tiatrists for your own monetary benefits. Jumping from KKK to
KHK and to YRC and involving himself on the Net with his disgraceful acts. You
have no right to personally attack anyone.

What we, the tiatrist fraternity has done, for the Konkani stage, you will only
have to dream to come to our level. We are on the stage, acting, writing dramas,
composing lyrics and encouraging the youth, for over four (4) decades. You keep
dreaming of uniting the dramatists, but we have already done what you could not
do.

Keep in mind that before calling someone 'shameless', think hard for a while how
shameless you are. By posting on the goanet, you are abusing your fellow Goans,
so much so that you are calling your neighbour and the well respected Mr.
Tomazinho Cardozo with 'disgraceful words'. Your contribution is zero, if you
compare it with the persons whom you wish to dislike!

You will realize one day of your own folly and mind you, your like-minded
cronies, will one day dump you after getting their songs sung.

You should not forget that I supported you - a dirty hearted man - right from
the invasion till date, not for anything, but for my love for Konkani stage.

Harping on old tunes again and again leads to this forum unpopularity.

Do not play games with us. Also I would like to get it to the notice of this
forum management of this character who is not only destroying the unity and
peace of the Goan and Mangalorean community with his panch-sov (5-6) cronies,
but also the interest in this mailing list.

Re: [Goanet]Amche historr?

2003-11-05 Thread Eddie Fernandes
Headline: Amche Historr creates a niche in London.

Source: Herald (Goa) 3 Nov. 2003.

Full Text:

Amche Historr, The Goan Oral History Group based in London, has struck it
lucky with an application for the British National Lottery Funding. Both,
Croydon Council Heritage Awards and National Lottery Awards for All.
Community grants have been granted to Goans living in London to contribute
their life stories to local historical archives.

Oral history has become a popular method of collecting history among groups,
often forgotten by conventional historians. Religious and ethnic minority
groups, migrant workers, women, the working class and elderly, have all
contributed their voices towards historical representation. Clifford
Pereira, Amche Historr's International Publicity Co-ordinator, commented
that, due to a colonial past, and the disinterest of the imperial and
independent governments in recording, archiving and publishing our
historical heritage, the Goan diaspora in Asia, Africa and Europe has lost
much of its sense of history.

"The Amche Historr project aims to correct this - at least for the best part
of the last century - by telling our story from our perspective and from
that of the people's who have interacted with us," Pereira said.

Funds will be set aside to record some interviews in Konkani dialects, some
of which face extinction, these will be translated and made available.

The project will serve to acknowledge the contribution made by Goans to
community projects, music, sports and the various professions. Additionally,
it will preserve a part of their heritage for their future to enjoy as the
recorded life stories will be deposited in libraries that specialise in
local and community history. They will be made accessable to the wider
community and future generations to enjoy.

Ms Shirley Gonsalves (project co-ordinator) hopes that the younger Goans
would take responsibility for the preservation of "our unique heritage."

It is envisaged that the group will form links with the wider Goan Global
network. Towards this goal, many workshops based on oral tradition were
planned and held on October 25, this year in London.

The petitioners, who own and operate a five star deluxe beach resort,
Cidade de Goa, has stated that Vaiguinim beach was figuring in
Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) - III as per Goa Coastal Management
Plan originally framed. But from December 2001 it was declared as
CRZ-II. For this reasons, allowing the erection of shacks on the beach
will be contrary to law.
The government had issued a notice in 2002 inviting applications for
setting up shacks on the beaches of Goa. Vaiguinim beach was not
notified in the notice.
In October 2003, by a seperate notice, Vaigunim beach was also
added to the notice earlier published.

NGO should play role innation building: HC judge

MARGAO, NOV 2

HERALD CORRESPONDENT

It is not only the responsibility of the State to shape the destiny of
the Nation, but the society at large, particularly the NGOs, and social
institutions should play a great role in this task of nation building, said
Justice Ferdino Rebello, judge of Bombay High Court at a function held in
the city here this evening at Gomant Vidhay Niketan.

Justice Rebello was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of the fifth
anniversary of Shri Sadanand Zambaulikar Memorial Turst here.

Lauding the efforts of the trust in rendering service to the society,
Justice Rebello quoted the preamble of the Indian Constitution which
mentions that the the country will strive to secure justice social,
economic and political to its citizens. Here where lies the role of the
NGOs and other social organizations, he stressed.
Justice Rebello further said that it is not only the courts, the Parliament
or the executive who can fulfill the aspirations of the citizens, but the
voluntary organisations too can play a role in it.

In this regard, he said that some voluntary organisations have been
approaching the courts seeking justice and and that the Apex court has
played a big role in protecting the environment and the ecology of the
nation whenever such representations were made to the courts.

Every human being must get some basic rights and in this context he cited
the examples of prisons which remain as a place of denial of such rights. He
also said that millions of people in India are homeless, however, we in Goa
do not know what it means by not having a roof on ones head.

He also vividly described the conditions of those millions of people who
flock into big cities such as Mumbai, Chennia, Calcutta for a living and
struggle to occupy every inch of the land for a roof on their head,
resulting in slums even on the roads.

He said that economic achievments should go hand in hand with protection to
environment and in this task, the role of the NGOs is paramount, he said
adding that even a few individuals can help humanity as a whole for its
betterment.

Unless there is participation of the individuals and groups like the NGOs,
it would be difficult for the State to fulfill the basic needs of every
citizen.

In this context justice Rebello cited the examples of the role played by
NGOs in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra where parched people have been helped
with plenty of water. Now the water availability so abundant that these
states have have water even for agriculture in some villages.

While congratulating teacher Prabhugaoncar who was presented with a scroll
of honour consisting of a shawl and shrefal, justice Rebello said he was
happy that Goa has made a good progress in the field of education with 90
per cent literacy rate in the state, thus providing universal education.

However, he said that Goans must strive to have best education in the State
and thus make Goa, Amchem Baganrachen Goem, as it is always said, justice
Rebello said in his short speech.

Earlier some students were also felicitated and provided with prizes and
cheques.

Rajabhau Gavande, president of the Industrial Courts, Maharashtra (Emeritus)
was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Vol. LV, No.15 New Delhi

What should make Indians particularly indignant is
Mother Teresa’s conduct, immediately after the Union
Carbide disaster in 1984. She rushed to Bhopal, not to
help the victims and their families but to appeal to
them to “forgive.” Who should the victims “forgive”?
Who else but the multinational Union Carbide and its
chief Anderson. Her concern was not the fate of the
victims but damage control in the face of the
inevitable public anger against the perpetrators of
the horrific disaster. The reason is obvious: the
victims were poor, but Union Carbide and Anderson are
rich. This should help put Mother
Teresa in her true place.

“…the shame of mankind, a sin of vice, a sewer where
is gathered all the filth in the world. There the God
is held in contempt, money alone is worshipped and the
laws of God and men are trampled under foot.
Everything there breathes
a lie…”

—The great humanist Petrarch (1304-74)

A delegation of Indian Christian leaders recently
called on Prime Minister Vajpayee asking him that the
Government of India should send an official delegation
to Vatican during the ceremony when Pope John Paul II
is expected to anoint Mother Teresa a saint of the
Catholic Church. India as a secular state, does not or
at least should not send official delegations to
religious events. In fact, India does not recognize
even foreign secular awards like the British
knighthood and rightly so. So these Christian leaders
have no business telling the Government to send an
official delegation to Vatican. At the same time, it
is worth taking a look at the institution and some of
the candidates, it is honouring as saints. This will
give an idea of the sort of organisation and the
people it “honors”.
Churches and Christian organisations these days are in
the news only when there is a major scandal—not just
any scandal but a major one, like mass child
molestation, homosexual priests and even murder. Here
is what a recent report in The New York Times titled
“Abusive Ex-Priest Is Killed in Prison” (August 24,
2003) had to says: “John J. Geoghan, the former
priest, whose abuse of children over decades opened
the door for a scandal that shook the Roman Catholic
Church, was strangled by another inmate in a
Massachusetts state prison, officials said yesterday…”
According to the report, “Other criminal charges were
pending, as well as civil cases involving more than
130 people, who said he had abused them… His case was
among hundreds involving clergy members, but the
extent of his crimes and the mountain of church
documents released in lawsuits against him, turned him
into a symbol of the church’s sexual abuse scandal.”
The report also noted that the Church knew that this
had been going on for years and had hushed it up: “His
case also showed the degree to which the Roman
Catholic hierarchy knew about problem priests and
shuttled them among parishes, showing what victims
said was more concern for the church’s reputation than
for the safety of children.” And how high did this
knowledge go in the Church’s hierarchy? All the way to
the Popes, going back decades. Here is what the
Observer (August 17, 2003) had to say in the report
titled: “Vatican told bishops to cover up sex abuse:
Expulsion threat in secret documents.”
“The Vatican instructed Catholic bishops around the
world to cover up cases of sexual abuse or risk being
thrown out of the Church, [according to] a 40-year-old
confidential document from the secret Vatican archive,
which lawyers are calling a ‘blueprint for deception
and concealment’. One British lawyer acting for Church
child abuse victims has described it as ‘explosive’.
The 69-page Latin document bearing the seal of Pope
John XXIII was sent to every bishop in the world. The
instructions outline a policy of ‘strictest’ secrecy

Lucky you, Sarabond,

I would have wanted to watch the Afro-Asian Games through out, more so the
closing ceremony. BUT!...
However, I did get to see the clip on the opening ceremony and the Advani
address.
At one point Advani made a very bold statement, and, I'm sure, he
expected a deafening applause, atleast from the dignitaries on the stage.
NOTHING HAPPENED. As if he could not believe his ears, Advani
repeated the line again. But, to his chagrin, NOTHING HAPPENED. A TOTAL
DEAD SILENCE. He looked left right and center and continued with an acid
smile on his face.
"" AZ EH SAAB DEKNE-SE EISA LAGATA HAI KI "KAMAL" KHUL GAYA HAI. ""
No doubt, Advani sees saffron kamals everywhere, where most do not.

Coming back to "Playing with fire" are we not the AGNI people???

2003-11-05 Thread halur rasho
According to nandini:
<<
"Swasti"
literally means "Well-being" (Su asti) in Sanskrit.
Swastika stands
for the forward movement of Sun-God's chariot, which
in turn means
enlightenment, progress, and optimism. Hindus have
always used
Swastikas for benevolent purposes. Swastikas were
used at cross-roads
with the right arm pointing to East to re-orient
travelers in the
"right" direction. Swastika with the Cross at its
heart invites
opposites to meet at the "Center" and become One.
>>

The Nazi symbol and the indian swastika are different
as is obvious if you look closely.
Interestingly enough Navjo Indians in the american
south west use the symbol.

George,
This time you are right (on both counts.)

The only reason I will take part in a debate is if I
feel I will learn something from the discussion.

Unless I get input or an update from anyone here, my
curiosity of saints will probably remain to when they
come marching in :-)

[Goanet]Goa's next patron saint

2003-11-05 Thread Marlon Menezes
My dear Goans,

It is with great honor, dignity and respect that I
accept your unanimous nomination as Goa's next patron
saint.

When I die and burn in hell, I will intercede with the
powers that lie beneath to ensure that each and every
one of your starving souls is provided with bountiful
quantities of fatty Goa sausages and quenched with
feni enhanced with Zuari Petrochemical runoff.

For a saint, I think I am extremely handsome and sexy
- definitely far better looking than that stiff who
occupies that casket in Old Goa. As an inspiration to
all the oppressed Goan women, I humbly request that my
scantily covered body(*) is put on display at Goa's
main gambling dens, Bania brothels and other popular
centers of vice. I expect my body to be on display
24x7x666 as opposed to that guy in Old Goa who only
dares show his ugly face every 10 years.

My saintly credentials are impeccable. My missionary
travails around the world have forced me to hurl
verbal abuses in so many languages that even the
multi-lingual Pope would have difficulty keeping up.
I have demonstrated time and time again in various
dark street alleys of my magical ability to convert
red wine to yellow water. Clearly, no nuclear
scientist can match my ability to transmutate
elements. Also in keeping with the present
environmental times, I have shown my keen ability to
generate vast amounts of fiery methane with only
modest consumption of legumes and dairy products, thus
laying to waste the fundamental laws of
thermodynamics.

I am clearly the saint for the times.

Your humble saint,
Marlon

(*) No peeking please. Unlike that chap on the cross,
I will not have any underwear underneath my kashti.
