Cederico, You have told us everything the Goa Suraj party shouldn't do and how it will never meet with success. You have told us how Francisco Colaco will not even get the Margao Bamon votes and how Monster Rat will get voted in wherever and on whatever party platform he stands. We Goans always easily tend to tell what can go wrong but have no answers on how to do it right. Kudos indeed to India's and Goa's par-Olympians. I had heard a long time ago that Victor Vaz and his institution was doing creditable rehabilitative work with paraplegics in Goa. Re: [Goanet] Goa Suraj and south Goa parlimentary polls
Pace of aggression??? Did I hear right?? Oh Cedrico, I am not sure if you are aware of Goa's ground realities yet. Political aggression is directly proportional to how much money is extorted from every source plus more and spent on the promotion of the Party. In order words people want to belong to a party if they are well looked after. You know what I mean. And Goa Su-Raj is built not to do just that. Otherwise Goa would have one more party and that would not make a difference. However, I must confide in you that Su-Raj is not bothered whether it will RISE at all. But I must reassure you that it will maintain its static position, if need be, but it will never SET. Moreover, the job of making it rise is left to the people of Goa. Or else they can go hunting elsewhere, Maybe in Taleigao, Betalbatim, Varca etc. BTW the right type of aggression was initiated by GBA. But it went to sleep putting cold water on people's expectations. I'll tell you a small story why Goa Su-Raj will not rise on its own and why people should fly it like a kite up in the sky. One of our executive members came to me once and said. Floriano, we need money yaar. If we have money we can do a lot of things. So I push a paper and pen to him. What is this? he says. write down what you want to do I say. Write? he says. You are mad. With money we can do a thousand things to promote the party. Well Mr. I say. At the starting of the Party ,you had said that you will bring in 1000 life members. 1000 x 300 would be 30 (3 lacs). That is a lot of money. So far you have not brough in a single life member, remember? Then I told him what would happen if there was a lot of money with the Party. You would come one day and say Floriano, I need to pay my mortgage tomorrow. I will return the sum in a month's time. That you don't want to break your fixed deposit for nothing. If I say no, you will go about telling every one that Floriano wants to eat all the money. If I give you, you will not only not return it but when asked for it, we will stop coming to the party office. No Sir. Again, If I give you, I will also be tempted to use some myself. And sooner than later, all the money will be gone and the 1000 things will be lying dried up like dried fish. You write what you want to do with that money and that money shall be raised. Until such financing does not come, we shall not do the thing. In fact we have lost this particular executive member from that day onward. Sorry tale, isn't it? Cedrico??? And you were asking if at all Su-Raj will rise? Re: [Goanet] Archaeological wonders of Priol
An elucidating article. It is always good to learn about the existence of such wonders in our land. My only comment is in respect of «Priol is a small village in Ponda taluka, brimming with Kulaagars (coconut groves) and scenic beauty». The author surely wished to say (arecanut groves) and not (coconut groves). Jorge - Original Message - From: Goanet News Service [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Goanet [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2007 5:59 AM Subject: [Goanet] Archaeological wonders of Priol Archaeological wonders of Priol Rohit Phalgaonkar Priol is a small village in Ponda taluka, brimming with Kulaagars (coconut groves) and scenic beauty. Priol is a land of temples and is referred to as Piriyal in the Madhav Mantri copper plates of the Vijaynagar period. A splendid temple of Shri Betaall stands in a small busy hub of the village. The layout of the Sabhamandap of this temple resembles the temples of Shri Mahalsa in Mardol and Shri Narsinh in Veling. The exterior walls of the Sabhamandap are absent but are replaced by round wooden pilasters fixed very close to each other. Such an arrangement provides ventilation and light to the hall. The roof of the Sabhamandap stands on eight massive wooden pillars with intricate carvings of floral patterns, serpents, chains, etc. Exquisitely carved wooden panels depicting the ten avataars of Shri Vishnu adorn the wooden ceiling. Such wooden panels were commonly seen in most Goan temples once upon a time but ignorance and neglect have made them disappear. Such types of wooden panels are rarely seen in Goa today. To elucidate, the temples of Shri Shivnath and Shri Kamakshi at Shiroda and Shri Mahalsa at Mardol are some of the few temples left with this rare art. Another rare example of woodwork seen in this temple is the motif of the mythological lion. Such motifs have almost vanished from Goan temples. In the course of my preliminary study and research on temples, I have come across only two temples in Goa where such lion motifs exist. The intricate carved wooden door jambs of the sanctum with two small Dvaarpaals at their foot are really beautiful. They are depicted wearing a turban and a gown with a spear in their hands. They also have round earrings, a vermillion mark on the forehead and a thick moustache curled at the ends. The ancient wooden image of the deity Shri Betaall was replaced by a stone image. Renovating of such edifices distorts history as these structures tell us about our glorious past. Ancient temple water tanks too are being renovated on a large scale. Many feel that concrete is the best solution to all the problems. But little do they know that the lifespan of these R.C.C. structures is very less. Such structures should be conserved and restored without concretising them. SOURCE: Goa Plus, October 12, 2007

To Goanet GOA - AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT A Photo Exhibition by Rajan P. Parrikar Where: Institute Menezes Braganza (Art Gallery) Near Azad Maidan, Panjim, Goa When: November 1 - 6, 2007, 9 am to 7 pm Admission: Free, and open to all To the popular imagination the world over, Goa is the fun-filled destination of sun, sand and feni. To the Goan this advertisement strikes as inane, a blurb coined by the tourism industry. The tableau presented here is a subset of the photographs I took over 45 days from June through September 2007. This is the Goa seen through the eyes of an insider, and is a portrayal of the harmonious, inseparable marriage of the land with its social, religious cultural elements. Goa's ecosystem is sui generis, and its delicate, gentle and civilized ethos to be found nowhere else. However, this equilibrium is now under severe strain. Assault on the land by the real estate sharks, complicity of the venal Goan politicos, and the hordes of outsiders pitching their tents here have put Goa on the fast-track to doom. This exhibition is a futile attempt to awaken the indolent Goan to the wealth that surrounds him and which he stands to lose.

Re: [Goanet] Bulls to Fight again in Goan Fields? Whom is Sardinha trying to fool?
Cedric, While I hold no particular brief for Sardinha, there's nothing wrong in being beaten by a rookie. Did you mention how many times Sardinha was elected by Curtorim constituency voters? Either he must have done something good to have been elected time and again or the people of Curtorim must be bird-brains. Even the most successful politician is one day voted out. Every once in a while voters do need a new face and in Sardinha's case the 'while' was a very long while indeed. What was it, 20 years or more? Again your penchant for puzzles. You are saying the choice in South Goa is between the devil and the blue sea and then in the next breath you ask the voter to vote consciously. Pray how? Whoever is voted in South Goa, his or her voice will not be heard in the huge Indian Parliament. That is a given. No Goan will ever be prepared for the rough and tumble of Indian national politics. That is in fact not expected of the Goan member. Goans are supposed to be cultured, polished and educated and that is what House members expect of him and he is rewarded accordingly. See the path of Eduardo Faleiro and the ministerships he was accorded. A definite plus for power to the Goan member. Faleiro might not have got that by mere shouting. If that holds true, then Francisco Colaco would do Goa proud. The fight or revolution to rescue Goa begins now - and who will lead it? Babush Monserrate? Roland. It is very strange that no Muslim have objected to the FACT Photo Exhibition. Then why the Christians and phony secularists are so much concerned about ? Christians and Muslims all over the world are enemies of one another, but in secular India alone they are always found on the same side against their common enemy : Hinduism. Let me put in a straight forward words to you , Hindus are not going to be intimidated by your illusionary malady of bias propaganda which is appealing and exhilarating fabrication of facts. You have the right to express your opinions but you can not deny the truth and facts to be exposed. In west, historically secularism stood for rationalism, universalism, humanism . In India today secularism is united front of all anti hindu ideologists. In the context of minority appeasement it has resulted unfortunate perversion of India’s political parlance. The most spectacular thing about the fraudulent liberals and anti hindu secular brigade that they will never take up the cause of the organized genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. Criticizing anything anti –Hindu activities are painted as communal and tagged as pro Sangh Parivar. To sum up: -Talking about and exposing ethnic cleansing and massacre of Hindus in Kashmir is communal. -Talking about Mumbai, Varanasi, Delhi Jehadi terrorist bomb blasts is communal. -Talking about the genocide of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh is communal. -Talking about greatest genocide on earth of more than 100 million Hindus during barbaric Muslim moghul, British and Portuguese rule in India is communal. Adeus Konkani Tiatro in Toronto - A Review By Silviano C. Barbosa
Adeus Konkani Tiatro in Toronto A Review By Silviano C. Barbosa Jr. Menezes steals the show in the best Konkani Tiatro so far in Toronto, Canada! The Goan Konkani audience at Michael Power School Auditorium in Etobicoke, Toronto left the hall in frenzy and with great satisfaction after watching a Konkani Tiatro written and directed by Jr. Menezes, a.k.a Raymond Menezes, born in Quepem, Goa , now residing in Toronto, Canada. This Tiatro was reminiscent of the amazing Tiatros produced and directed by the likes of J.P. Souzalin and Prem Kumar, the great directors who brought us Tiatros filled with scenes/scenarios, special effects, revolving stage and other props and sets. This Tiatro in no way will be any different than the Tiatros produced by todays directors in Goa, like Prince Jacob, Roseferns and Mario Menezes. The artistes who performed this Tiatro in Toronto are very much well-versed in fluent Konkani as can be witnessed by the solid dialogues that were exchanged in perfect delivery. Jr. Menezes made history in Konkani Theatre in North America by donning a Goan Kashtty on stage, one of the only 2 Goan Tiatrists to do so after the late Prem Kumar held this record in his Tiatro, Vavraddi. Incidentally the audience was asked to observe a minutes silence in honour of the great Goan Director, actor and innovator of the Konkani Tiatro, Prem Kumar, a.k.a. Peter Da Costa, who died a day earlier to this performance. Jr. Menezes regaled the audience with his fine performance in various roles as a skilled director, writer, comedian, character actor, a tribal (gavddi) in kashtty and as a singer par excellence. Besides the above skills, Raymond Menezes was instrumental in producing a fine DVD with his camera operating skills, mixing, sound effects, designing sets, and giving an impressive transition from the video to the actual acting on the stage. Jr. Menezes has a great potential with his natural art, acting, comedy and musical skills that he possesses, and could potentially be a creative advisor/contributor to Pixar Films in Silicon Valley. His wife, Charmaine is a natural complement to the wealth of their family skills and art, together with their kids, Nikita, Stephanie and Jude Menezes. Charmaines canto was just exceptional. This was the first Tiatro that Jr. Menezes wrote, which he said he created when he was only 17. After performing this Tiatro when he first arrived in Canada years ago, he fine-polished it and improvised it in its current version by adding new roles such as the tribal woman (gavddin Andrez), which was perfectly enacted by Serah Barbosa (my other half) and that of a ghantti, equally well-performed by A.C. Pereira. Jr. Menezes and Serah and A.C. Pereira mesmerized the audience with their hilarious antics on stage obtaining peals of laughter from the very responsive and satisfying audience. These three names reverberated the most on the lips of the audience throughout the show and after. The contribution by a galaxy of talented artistes including the tiny Goan talented kids contributed tremendously to the overall success of this beautiful play, which is sure to please a packed audience in New Jersey, U.S.A on November 10, 2007. This play was witnessed by some 600 spectators in a houseful-capacity hall. The play started with a DVD flashback with a couple kids playing in a park, especially a little boy and a girl who were always together in a playful mood. At the end of the projected video there is a nice transition, as this pair of kids continue their playful catch-up on stage as they grow up. I will not delve too much on the story as this play is scheduled to perform in New Jersey, except to say that this Tiatro slowly unwinds the story of these star-crossed lovers and the scenes on their journey are sure to please the audience especially the part at the end of the play. This Tiatro is full of vivid scenes and scenarios. I liked this Tiatro very much and it has no doubt created a record as being the best Konkani Tiatro so far in the history of Konkani Tiatro in Toronto, Canada, especially because it was conceived and written and directed by a Canadian Goan. Here are the performers who made this Tiatro the best one so far: Joe Vaz,(hero) Clema Fernandes, Jr. Menezes, Serah Barbosa, Jude Menezes, Charmaine Menezes, Faria Fernandes (heroine), Tony DSilva(Inspector), Francis Moraes(Rich father), Maria Pereira, Chris Gomes, Grace Almeida, Olavio Da Costa(Inspector), Joe Rodrigues, Alwyn Gomes, Lourdino Rodrigues, A.C. Pereira, Auggie Pereira, Patrick Pereira and Josie Carrasco (Play Co-ordinator). All artistes gave their best and it would be unfair to mention a few as better than the others. Singers like the ever-impressive Ruth Kumar together with another ace songstress Hazel Jacob excelled as usual and most other singers gave their level best in raising this Tiatro to a level never reached

[Goanet] FATIMA: One of World's Largest Churches Opened
FATIMA: One of World's Largest Churches Opened Posted by: Rupert J. Vaz [EMAIL PROTECTED] rupertjvaz Tue Oct 16, 2007 2:46 am (PST) Fatima opens one of the worlds largest churches in time for 90th anniversary Fatima, Oct 15, 2007 (CNA).- One of the largest churches in the world was dedicated on Sunday in Fatima, Portugal one of the most popular Marian pilgrimage sites in the world. The Church of the Holy Trinity, built to accommodate the estimated 5 million annual pilgrims to Fatima, can hold nearly 9,000 people. Its interior measures 130,000 square feet, containing five chapels, fifty confessionals, and a cafe. It will be decorated with an enormous mural of the New Jerusalem, and the walls will bear passages from the Bible in twenty-three languages. Pope Benedict XVI delivered a live televised message to congregants on Sunday, the 90th anniversary of the final apparition of the Virgin Mary. The Blessed Mother appeared to three shepherd children over a six-month period in 1917. She counseled prayers for those in danger of hell and for the conversion of Russia. She also conveyed a vision that some interpret to have prophesied the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II, who himself credited Our Lady of Fatima with saving his life. Two of the children, Francisco Marto and his sister Jacinta, have been beatified. The third visionary, Lucia, became a nun and died two years ago. The new churchs low-slung profile complements the existing basilica by not overshadowing the older structure. [Goanet] [JudeSundayReflections] 29th Sunday of the Year
14-Oct-2007 Dear Friend, Our experience of life shows us that if we want to get something we have to go after it. The more we desire something deeply and passionately, the more we endeavour to possess it. Perseverance pays of and yields much fruit. But do we persevere in prayer when we relate to God or do we tend to give up easily? Do we pray for others in need? Have a blessed weekend interceding with God. Fr. Jude Sunday Reflections: Twenty-ninth Sunday Prayerful Intercession 21-Oct-07 Readings: Exodus 17:8-13;2Timothy 3:14-4:2; Luke 18:1-8; The first reading speaks of the power of prayer and a concrete example of this is seen in the case of Moses praying on the mountain for victory of his people. While Joshua and the army battle the Amalekites, Moses stands interceding with God and keeps on praying till the battle is won. More and more, Moses was called to play the role of prophetic intercession for his people. His arms outstretched in prayer have remained a traditional symbol of prayer. Much more than our efforts is the power that is available to us when we call on God and avail of his power in our daily life. What a friend we have in Jesus Mary Cushman, who was a mother of five children ran into a series of financial crises, from one misery to another she was tortured in her life. Her husband did not have a decent job, was constantly sick and had repeated attacks of flue. She lost the house they had built with their own hands, and she took to washing and ironing clothes of neighbours to make ends meet. One day her eleven year old son was accused by the baker of stealing a couple of pencils though he was innocent. This was the straw that broke her back. She thought of all the miseries she had endured; and she saw the future and that was too bleak. She temporarily became insane and decided to end her life. She took her five year old daughter inside the bedroom, and plugged up the windows and cracks with paper and rags and turned on the gas heater but did not light it. She went to bed with her daughter and closed her eyes. She could hear the gas escaping from the heater. Suddenly she heard music. She had forgotten to turn the radio off in the kitchen. The music went on and presently she heard someone singing an old hymn. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear . What peace we often forfeit .because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. As she listen she realized her mistake, she had tried to fight her battle alone, she had not taken everything to God in prayer. She jumped up, turned off the gas and prayed the rest of the day. The problems did not get solved immediately but gradually she built up her life with Gods help and years later was a happy grandmother of three kids and all her children were well placed. John Rose in Johns Sunday Homilies The power of prayer A Hindu fable illustrates a better kind of prayer, in which we can see a great truth. Once the birds could not fly, but groveled and crept and hopped about, seeing nothing above the hedges, bearing on their backs a heavy and -to them apparently- useless weight of feathers. One day they decided to bear it no longer, and stretched and wriggled to get rid of the burden and behold, their very efforts unfolded their wings which bore them aloft, soaring up to Gods blue vault of heaven. Anonymous In todays Gospel Jesus narrates the parable of the unjust judge and the widow who persistently demands justice from him until he relents and gives her what she asks of him. The parable which Jesus narrated however has a deeper lesson than the need for persevering prayer. In Palestinian tradition a single judge rather than a tribunal indicated that the woman was being denied her rights in some money matter. Widows and orphans in the Old Testament were stock types of persons who were utterly helpless. She is too poor to bribe the judge, the accepted way at that time, to get justice. In other words everything was against her getting justice in her favour, yet by sheer dint of perseverance she got want she demanded. From the Lords point of view, it is the unjust judge and not the poor widow who is the central figure in this parable. The point of the parable is not the perseverance of prayer but the absolute assurance of a hearing being granted based on the type of God we believe in, - a God of compassion and power to help. If human frailty can rise to the occasion, how much more will God not arise to aid the needy! We should never doubt the efficacy of our prayer, God might delay in coming to our aid but come He will, in his time. But do we have enough faith to wait on His will? Prayer with faith A messenger came to an old ivy-covered castle and knocked with the great iron knocker. No answer. He tried again; only a hollow echo. But he knew the folks were at home; for he had
[Goanet] Facts about the FACT exhibition
Selma wrote: I viewed most of its sections, including the history section. One of the problems with it is, it sets out Kashmir as a Hindu v/s Muslim problem, rather than one which needs a political, territorial and economic solution. The other problem is that it is subtly pervasive in its message of hate-mongering, much like the infamous VCD. On the face it, it reflects the FACTS but scrape the veneer and it is but an all too gaudy demonisation of Muslims. The history section, particularly is of interest in setting the premise for the whole exhibition. Comment: Selma, the taste of the pudding is in the eating. The BJP (NDA) was in power for 6 years. We would like to learn from the organisers of the exhibition what action was taken to ameliorate the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits as well as the local Muslim population which has been suffering in the conflict. Instead the BJP released some terrorists and sent its foreign minister Jaswant Singh as high level personal escort to Khandahar. That some of the released terrorists were subsequently involved in the 9/11 terror is another story. Regards, Marshall -- My life has changed. What about yours? [Goanet] VIOLENCE MARS GOA FINAL
India: Violence Mars Goa Final 15/10/2007 07:25 All hell broke loose in the final of the Goa Professional Football League between Dempo and Churchill Brothers as coaches and fans attacked the referee. When referee Angelo Fernandes didnt point to the spot after Churchill Brothers striker Odafa Okolie fell in the Dempo box just five minutes from time, Churchill Brothers manager Denzil hit the referee. It was the final of the Vodafone Goa Professional Football League and the spectators had come in large numbers on Sunday to support their teams. Dempo scored two goals through Clifton and Chidi Edeh while Churchills sole goal came from prolific striker Odafa Okolie. Churchill were trailing 2-1 in the 85th minute when Odafa clashed with Dempo custodian Tyson. The former stayed down and manager Denzil came to attend him. Thereafter, Denzil hit the referees head from behind. The match continued with the referee placing his hand over his head in pain. Once, the final whistle was blown the supporters and some officials of Churchill Brothers attacked the referee mercilessly. The referee ran for his life but still was kicked and beaten. It was a shameful scene. The referee was right in not awarding the penalty. It was against the spirit of the game to hit the referee while the match was on. Action must be taken against the club and its officialssaid Dempo centre-back Mahesh Gawli. Speaking to a local newspaper, Mr.Savio Messias, Secretary Goa Football Association (GFA) said: We have lodged a complaint with the police and the Managing Committee will meet today to decide further action against the club. Meanwhile, there was bad news for the Indian national team as Mahesh Gawli pulled his thigh muscle and was substituted after 65 minutes. Yes, I pulled a muscle in my thigh but I hope to be fit for the Indian camp starting tomorrow, Gawli said. Re: [Goanet] 'CASTE-BASED DISCRIMINATION STILL ALIVE IN INDIA'
Hi Sanny I have fallen behind reading Goanet posts but thanks for providing information about Stalin's film on caste in India. All the evidence is that it is as bad, and possibly worse than it has been before. Last week, the Economist had a substantial article on caste and its implications for business. What puzzles me is how it is possible for so many to pretend that it does not exist or that its intensity has diminished. As you will know, I have been a consistent critic of caste among the supposedly Catholic Goans. However, I have noted that fewer are now flag-waving their Brahminess or othe caste designations. The message that casteism is racism is perhaps finally sinking into the Catholic Goan consciousness. In the UK we are periodically informed about the goings on in all parts of the world and India and caste and dowry deaths featured in some of our documentaries recently. We also saw a horrific one about China and the effects of the one child policy. Do keep us informed about some of the truly disgusting practises in India and I will in turn report about some pretty lousy things in the West from time to time. It is only exposure to these evils that helps to bring about change. Regards Cornel Sanny de Quepem [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: PANAJI: After shooting in eight states and across four different religions, a new documentary film suggests that caste-based discrimination is alive and kicking in different pockets of India. Dear Bhandare You are absolutely right when you say; all have the right of free speech. Its like saying All smokers have the right to smoke, but many patrol stations deny them this right. During festivals, all have the right to burn fire crackers, but again, not near areas which are likely to catch fire. Human intelligence is required to know what is right, and what is wrong, what is instigation, and what is education. You know what happened in Panjim some time back, to some names on the streets which had Portuguese names, well, as you say, freedom of speech, that was what the roads were named, but what was done by what you called bigots. Marshall, John is a Goa born person of Portuguese British parentage. That's the reason he cannot claim to be a PIO (Person of Indian orgin). Dear allSome time back, i remember, that Manohar Parrikar the then chief minister of Goa had promised to have a liberary somewhere near Kadamba bus stand in Panjim, and I was very happy on hearing this news, and had even written on Goanet about it praising him for such a thought.. I wonder what happened to that plan.Well as always, all talks are just to fool the public, as nothing ever happened. I believe Panjim Bus stand would have been the best place to have a liberary, as there are more people who travel from there to all different destinations, and secondly, there will never be a delay in returning a book taken from there. St Inez, being far for people who dont even have a chance to see Panjim, would not be able to take the advantage of such a wonderful educative place and hence it will be good for people only in that vicinity.CheersJerry Fernandesref Support growing the reading habit among Goa\'s next generation of gt; achievers gt; gt; Bookworm Library and Magazine gt; Bluebelle, Tamba Colony, St Inez, Goa gt; gt; Contacts: Tel: +91 9823222665 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Goanet] SCHOOL BOYS HARRASSED IN GOA
School boys harrassed in Goa Frankey Fernandes Monday, October 15, 2007 (New Delhi) Team boys from the Don Bosco High School in Goa returned back home from the Subroto Cup football tournament without playing a single match. The team was disqualified because the organizers felt that some of the players were overaged, but there was greater humiliation in store. The boys allege that medical officials of the tournament had forced the boys to drop their pants as part of the checking procedure in order to determine their age. ''Two days after traveling, all 16 of us were told to stand in line and remove our shirts and put our hands up they checked our armpits and then they asked 7 of us to lower our pants. We were very shy about that we never had done such a thing in our lives,'' said a young member of the football team. Back in Goa, Children's Rights activists are outraged at the incident. ''The children who went to Delhi to participate in the Subroto Cup tournament were subjected to extreme arbitrary treatment,'' said Nishtha Desai, Director, Children's Rights, Goa. The organizers however claim that correct procedures were followed. ''There were two check ups. At the first check up male and female docs were present. In the second check there were 3 docs present. This is the way its done,'' said V N Dixit, Coordinator, Subroto Mukherjee Cup. But these assurances mean nothing for traumatized children and worried parents, who sent them to Delhi for a prestigious national tournament. ''It has created a trauma in the mind of my child, my son who was very active when he left Goa for Delhi when he landed back in Goa he was totally subdued,'' said Atanasio Monterio, Parent. The boys have started practicing again but the pain of being stripped is much more than the 'unfit' stamp marked in their entry forms. http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070029476ch=10/15/2007%2010:52:00%20PM Sanny de Quepem [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

[Goanet] ReL Beware the exhibition of hatred...
To a message posted by Marshal Mendonca, I had made the following point: Secondly, even if the BJP did not do anything, does it mean that the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits should be ignored? More than 300,000 have been living as refugees in their own land, since 1989. I am heartened by Vidyadhar Gadgil's response, namely: Of course, their plight must be addressed. Meaningful solutions must be found. It is, of course, his opinion that the exhibition organised by the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti is not the way to go about doing it. Not having seen the exhibition, I am not able to comment on Vidyadhar's point. The moot point, however, is what has been done by the non-Sangh parivar people to addrss their plight, and what exactly is a meaningful solution. As I had said the Kashmiri Pandits have been living as refugees since 1989. I have personally not seen anyone else highlighting their plight That does not mean that no one else has done it. :Perhaps Vidyadhar can inform us who else has taken up the issue of the Kashmiri Pandits. One Chaitanya posted on this list a response to an article that was also posted on this list earlier. The article was a strong comment on the exhibition organised by the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, and the response was by the Samiti. To this, Fredrick Noronha writes: How nice. You'll use Goanet to beat Goanet! Such pressures on free expression of opinion in the media need to be taken up seriously. I am not able to comprehend exactly what Fred is saying. Surely the Samiti has a right to respond to what it considers to be a flase representation of what they are doing. So where is the question of using Goanet to beat Goanet. If the article had not been posted on Goanet in the first place, then there would have been no need to post the Samiti's response. I think the members on this list are intelligent enough to see anyone using Goanet for propaganda purpose. And I would have thought free expression does mean that the voice of the accused be also heard. Sachin Phadte _ Call friends with PC-to-PC calling -- FREE http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

[Goanet] Goa Suraj and South Goa Parlimentary Polls
Dear Rolando, All i can say to you is wait and watch...other than that i cannot divulge any more details at the moment. Cedric da Costa Dubai Dear Floriano, Firstly, although being away from Goa, I will be well versed on many a ground realities happening in Goa than many a sussegad Goenkar based in Goa...that credit i will give myself. If you have been reading my posts on Goanet, 'Uncensored' in Goan Observer and Herald (of course they banned me when i put an open letter against Digamber Kamat, titled...Margao's Suffocating Judas, that highlighted Margao's ailing plight and the rampant migration problem that Margao facesmy thoughts were right but somehow, people in power dont like highlighting the ills of their constituency). Why would I waste my precious time to highlight Goan issues, being comfortably based in the Gulf? the answer is simple -- having born and bred in a Goa of yesteryears...my heart will always be with my motherland...one day I will come back to it...but unfortunately it lies in shambles today -- thanks to the politicians of today. Although i think you should do a rethink and try and organise funds for your party cause without which in the current political ringto win...is like...wishful thinking even in the next twenty years if your party lasts that long with the current think-tank. The ground reality is many regional parties die a natural or slow death all over the world due to paucity of funds and that is a given fact, although some of them have better agenda's than most of the big parties put together...we are in the era where no matter what, money has to flow to win an election, specially when we are competing against huge money bags and regional parties. If money was not a criteria, why would the elected representatives let out a reign of loot and plunder, ofcourse part of it spent on getting themselves re-elected. But anyways, as a fellow Goan I passionately and wholeheartedly subscribe to your thought to cleanse Goa of all that it is going through. Imagine we are suffering so much due to rampant corruption abetted by the politicians...imagine again the state of Goa that our children will inherit. Just a small thought i would like to share...on filing his nomination see what issues Francisco Sardinha a senior politician said...instead of trying to improve infrastructure or say trying to support the next big industry -- tourism...his comments smacked so much immaturity...so one can imagine...what lies ahead... None of the current MLA's or Ministers nor even the Aam AAdmi chanting CM have the future of Goa in their mindall they think of is live for, or survive for the day...arn't they? Goans should be trained in the art of grabbing all the monies and freebees that the national parties give them, but while voting elect honest people like say your party would put up. But with the huge migrant vote...once again money plays a huge part. At the last election, I personally waited for one of his opponents (you included) to destroynot defeat... but destroy a narkasur like Dayanand Narvenkar...but what happened is what we all saw...but maybe in the years to come...Good luck there! Wish you luck maite and your organisation...May Goemcho Saib, bless it! [Goanet] Defamation of HJS FACT Exibition
Vinay wrote: To sum up: -Talking about and exposing ethnic cleansing and massacre of Hindus in Kashmir is communal. Comment: There we go again. Round and round the mulberry bush. Another clone from the sangh parivar stable, as if one B is not enough. May I request Vinay once again to read my posting on this subject and provide the answers to the queries posed therein. Repeating the same thing like a stuck record does not make for good arguement. Vinay, please tell us what the BJP did for the Kashmiri Pandits in the 6 years it was in power. We are all eagerly waiting to hear. Of course we all know that they released several terrorists and sent their foreign minister Jaswant Singh to escort them to Khandahar. That some of them were later involved in the 9/11 terror act is a grim reminder to the actions of the BJP (remote controlled by the sangh parivar). Shedding crocodile tears cannot fool people all the time. Cheers!!! Marshall -- My life has changed. What about yours? Log on to the new Indiatimes Mail and Live out of the Inbox!

[Goanet] Sardinhas promise to legalise bull fig hts deceitful: UGDP
Sardinhas promise to legalise bull fights deceitful: UGDP NT News Service Margao, Oct 15 Urging politicians to stop talking nonsense before the elections, the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) today said Congress candidate, Mr Francisco Sardinhas promise to legalise bull fights was quite amusing. The promise though alluring is nonetheless false and deceitful, Mr Anacleto Viegas, secretary general and spokesman of UGDP said. He however said that the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act must and can be changed by the government. According to Mr Viegas, the Act was in the concurrent list of the Constitution and any amendment to it can be done by the government, except that previous sanction may be required to change the law. Mr Sardinha must take the trouble to study the legal position before trying to fool the people just before the elections with his tall promise, the secretary general said. He urged the GPCC president to direct the government to move an amendment and make dhirios an exception to the rule of law (i.e. the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act). The opposition to such an amendment was based on misconception of the true nature of dirios, he said. http://www.navhindtimes.com/articles.php?Story_ID=10169 Sanny de Quepem [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
[Goanet] IGNITING MINDS AND HEARTS
IGNITING MINDS AND HEARTS By Walter Menezes Quepem Goa. ( Indias former President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam has touched the lives of many people with his intelligence, wisdom and his capacity to reach out and touch hearts. Walter Menezes too, has been one of those fortunate to believe in a dream and was rewarded by a personal touch only Kalam could have given. Menezes recounts those moments on the Presidents birthday, October 15. Gomantak Times dt 15.10.2007 ) THE ARTICLE Since 1999, our family has been organizing a public function in Kepem to felicitate the top-ranking SSC students from Quepem taluka with Late Camilo de Menezes Achievement Awards. Instituted at the hands of Dr. Eurico Santana da Silva, every year the awards are given on 19th July to coincide with the birth anniversary of my eldest brother who worked in various capacities in the District and the Civil Criminal Courts of Goa. Over the years, eminent personalities like Prabhakar Timble, Bhaskar Nayak, Narayan Dessai, Sanjith Rodrigues, Dr. Olivinho Gomes and Sandesh Prabhudessai have graced the function and delivered the Late Camilo de Menezes Memorial Lecture on topics concerning the students and the state. We even had the privilege of listening to Swamiji Chidananda, spiritual teacher from Varanasi, who spoke on The True Meaning of Excellence in Life during the presentation ceremony of Achievement Awards 2005. This year, Nitin Kunkolienkar, President of Goa Chamber of Commerce Industry was the Chief Guest and delved at length on an issue concerning Goa: Education Today and the Challenges of Tomorrow. Along with the top-rankers, Master Shivanna Madari, a student of Dada Vaidya High School, Ponda, whose award-winning painting of Karna, a character from Mahabharata, was subsequently released as a postal stamp by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh on Childrens Day, was also felicitated. Somewhere in the first week of June, when we began preparations for the AA-2007, a thought came to my mind and I shared the same with my children, Cindy and Dale. Why not present the top-rankers with a copy of Ignited Minds, autographed by His Excellency, the President of India himself? All of us had read Dr. A P J Abdul Kalams Ignited Minds. There is something in this book that makes you admire the Missile Man for his revolutionary as well as practical ideas to turn India into a developed nation by 2020. The mantra is mission mode. From a small island in Dhanushkodi to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, APJs life has been a fascinating journey. Attracted to the character of Vidura, who showed grit against the wrongdoings of authority and who had the courage to differ when everyone else chose to surrender before the tyranny of adharma, Dr. Kalam believes that there is no greater power in heaven or on earth than the commitment to a dream. My wife was in the kitchen that evening and overhead me saying something like writing to the President of India. Piso zala ?, she asked. Organizing a function in a small village is one thing and requesting the President to autograph copies of his book was a different matter altogether. My wife just could not digest the thought. Nonetheless, I went into google-search, located the site of the President of India and wrote to His Excellency, briefly explaining the purpose behind Achievement Awards, along with a list of all the personalities who spoke on various issues and topics. Ten days later and true to his name, the Peoples President replied. His PPS, Shri Prasad, requested me to send the copies across quickly. As I said later in my welcome address during the presentation ceremony of AA-2007, that day was one of the happiest day of my life. I was greatly touched and humbled by the gesture of the President who had responded to an e-mail sent to him by an ordinary citizen of India and a villager from Goa. Next day in Panjim, I had to visit Paulines, Broadway and The Reading Habit before I could get the required number of copies of Ignited Minds. That evening, filled with a sense of satisfaction, I couriered the parcel to Rashtrapati Bhavan. With 19th July approaching fast, I called Shri Prasad a number of times only to be told that the copies were yet to be signed. Maybe I should have started the process a little earlier, I admitted to my friends, Sanjay-sir and Girish, who, like the rest of my family, were eagerly looking forward to see the autographed copies. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam could autograph the books only on Sunday, 15th July and they arrived in Kepem a day after the Achievement Awards ceremony was held. I, however, made the announcement during the function and the joy of the top-rankers knew no bounds. There was a steady stream of friends and neighbors who came to my place to have a look at the autographed copies of Ignited Minds. Colleagues in my office could not believe their eyes until I showed them the

Dear Mr. Parrikar For some time now, I had been keenly watching your moving images of Goa as seen through your Canon lenses. Even at halfway around the world, the inherent messages in these stunning, almost surreal images come very clear to me. I would be anxiously waiting for your online gallery. Thank you very much. [Goanet] Meet on global Goans may shift base: Eduardo
Meet on global Goans may shift base: Eduardo BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, OCT 16 - NRI Affairs Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro on Tuesday said that the annual Global Goan Convention (Gomant Vishwa Samelan) might not be held in Goa in future as several non-resident Goan organisations across the world are willing to host the event at different places. Disclosing this at a press conference at the Secretariat, the former Union Minister of State for External Affairs said that the organisations sought financial support to host these conventions and their active participation. The Goan community in Portugal held its convention in Lisbon in June last for which the authorities had sanctioned 5,000 euros as grant, he said. The State NRI Department will also provide some financial support to the conference on ''Goan diaspora - between the home and the host'', to be held on December 15, in New Delhi. The conference will be conducted by ''Goenkarncho Ekvot'', a Goan organisation based in the national capital. Faleiro further said that the department had decided to offer Rs 3 lakh financial aid to one such convention each year. Such conventions however, should be held on a rotational basis in different continents and in a country with significant NRG population, he added. The organisation should be recommended by the Indian Embassy or the office of the High Commission in that country and a detailed programme should also be approved for its successful conduct, Faleiro pointed out. Such an event in Goa can be held on the eve of Christmas or New Year as it would allow NRG families to come together, he said. Meanwhile, Faleiro is scheduled to visit Gulf countries in November-December to interact with the Goan emigrants and sort out their problems, if any, in consultation with local officials. He will be in Kuwait from November 7-9 and Doha (Qatar) from November 11-13. Faleiro's tour is being organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and by respective Indian embassies in those countries. He will be accompanied by Chairman of Overseas Employment Agency (Goa) Vice-Admiral (Retd) John D'Silva and Director of NRI Affairs U D Kamat. http://www.oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=2917cid=2
