Re: [Goanet] More on Maqbool Fida Hussain's Hypocrisy
The letter by Hilda Raja spreads falsehoods and smears. For example, Husain has never painted Saraswati copulating with a lion, which Raja claims he has. I urge people not to trust everything they read and see in this age of photoshop. It has been pointed out that many of the paintings displayed on the trashy fringe websites such as that created by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti have not been confirmed as authentic copies of Husain originals. Please note that they do not have Husain's signature on them, which other Husain paintings displayed by internet art galleries do. Please see the following, for example: http://www.cyberadsstudio.com/SPEAR/hussain/tour2.htm One endlessly repeated specious charge of bestiality is a transparent fabrication. The unconfirmed Durga painting in question appears simply as a nude figure riding a tiger with a Durga caption, with no sign of any sexual suggestibility at all. Bestiality is completely fantasized by the partisan Hindu extremists. I submit to you that most of the other charges are similarly exaggerated or fabricated. [Goanet] God and You
Albert writes:- God so loved the world that He was prepared to die for us and so He took a body form and created Jesus who became man and called himself the son of man.Jesus always loved his father and respected Him.The whole Christianity is based on love. Love from God to Man and love of man to man. Jesus abridged the ten commandments into just two simple commandments. Love God with your whole heart and love each other as Jesus has loved us. In what way did Jesus love God ? He loved God and it is because this love for His Father he ventured into this mission on earth. Jesus did not bother about the thorns that would poke him, or the stone poke while walking with the cross or the scouraging he would receive. He was concerned to wipe out the sins of humanity and to bind the bond of love between man and man. The greatest pain the Jesus is still suffering today is because the bond of love uniting man with another man is broken. It is replaced with hatred .Today one man is not ready to look into the eyes of another man. He does not love another man at all. There is no love between husband and wife .They are ready for a divorce . No love between parents and children. Between brothers and brothers or sisters and sisters or brothers and sisters. There is no love in the world at all. That is the reason our newspapers are filled with the stories of rape and murders. Our court folders are filed with cases of divorces and other lithigations which could have been avoided if there was love existing between people and people. _ Fight for the top Test spot http://sports.in.msn.com/cricket/

[Goanet] Goa Paradise lost (Article in Forbes Magazine)
Jan van Djik looks weather beaten. It looks as if he spent a good part of his 67 years strolling on Calangute beach. The Dutchman has been following a 20-year ritual of visiting Goa twice a year. Except that over the last few years, he has been spending less and less time there. Doing a lot of travel in other parts, especially in the North Benares. It was travellers like Djik who made Goa the destination that it is. Tourists from sun-starved European countries escaped to Goa to avoid the brutal winter. Sipping beer, smoking marijuana or just playing a game of beach cricket, they bankrolled Goas tourism economy. The hotels, beach shacks, restaurants, two-wheeler hire guys, all made money. But today it has all spun out of control. Goa is seeing a sharp drop in foreign tourist arrivals compared to other popular Indian destinations like Agra, Jaipur and Kerala. It is also fast losing its billing as an international tourist haven. Most of its competitors, like Bali in Indonesia and Langkawi in Malaysia, have shown impressive growth in 2009. Even upcoming options like Sri Lanka and Vietnam are getting more feelers from European tourists, industry players say (see graphic). Goa used to get one out of five foreign tourists coming to India. But the 2009 winter season (the peak season, traditionally from October to March) has seen the second consecutive drop in incoming foreign tourists after the dramatic plummet in 2008 something that the local industry says has happened for the first time. This year it looks like the season has got over by mid-January, says Cruz Cardozo, president of the Goa Shack Owners Association. Various estimates put the total overseas tourist arrivals in 2009 at 300,000, down from about 350,000 a year earlier and about 380,000 in 2007. Sure, other popular Indian destinations, too, have suffered, but Goa has suffered more. According to tourism ministry, arrivals to India fell by 3.3 percent in 2009. That is marginal compared to Goa governments official figure of a 13 percent drop; the local industry estimates a more than a 30 percent dip. read rest of the article at http://business.in.com/article/real-issue/goa-paradise-lost/10992/0

[Goanet] Israeli drug dealer arrested in Goa
Israeli drug dealer arrested in Goa Panaji, March 9 : An Israeli drug dealer surrendered to the Goa police Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. Atala, alias Yaniv Banaim, a drug dealer operating in north Goa, was captured on spy camera speaking about his links to the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the state police which had triggered the suspension of five policemen, including a senior police inspector, last week. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ravinder Singh Yadav said he was detained and would be handed over to the crime branch. He is being detained presently and will be later handed over to the crime branch, Yadav told IANS. A police officer said Atala, who entered India illegally after being deported from India some time back, surrendered to the police in the coastal region of Pernem. His arrest will help us crackdown on the police officers who are in collusion with the narcotics mafia in Goa, a police officer said. Atala was earlier arrested in a Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case in 2006 and was subsequently deported. In the spy camera video which was uploaded on www.youtube.com, Atala tells an unidentified person that several police officers in the Goa police were on his 'take'. Atala also said he would source drugs from the ANC officers who would steal it for him from a magistrate's custody. The Goa police has been rocked by charges of collusion of its officials with the narcotics mafia in Goa. While five policemen have been already suspended for their links to Atala, a Goa-based serving superintendent of police's brother is being probed for his links to the illegal drug trade. http://www.littleabout.com/news/78629,israeli-drug-dealer-arrested-goa.h tml ~(^^)~ Avelino

Samson D'Souza, 28, and Placido Carvalho, who is in his 30s, are facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, intent to outrage a woman's modesty, administering a drug with intent to harm and destruction of evidence. Their trial starts next week and the counsel representing Scarlett's mother Fiona Mackeown has welcomed the move as a major breakthrough in the case. Lawyer Vikram Verma, said: 'After two years things are finally moving forward and I look forward to fighting for justice in Scarlett's case.' Scarlett, 15, from Bideford, Devon, was found dead on Anjuna beach in Goa in February 2008. She was on a six-month holiday with her family and had been left in the care of a 25-year-old tour guide while her mother and siblings went travelling. When Scarlett's body was found on the beach, Indian investigators said she had drowned, but a second post-mortem examination carried out at the insistence of Fiona revealed evidence of attack injuries. India's Central Bureau of Investigation started a fresh investigation, which led to the arrest of Samson and Placido in March 2008. They were later released on bail until finally appearing in the Goa Children's Court on Monday. The court again granted them bail, despite Mr Vermas appealing for them to be remanded in custody. 'The duo has been charged and if they are bailed, I am concerned they will flee,' he said. According to Mr Verma, Scarlett's mother has no plans to attend the trial, which could last a year. In October the 45-year-old mum expressed her fear over having to wait until the outcome of the trial to be able to bury her daughter. Scarlett's body still lies in a Devon mortuary and will not be released until the end of the trial. However, Mr Verma believes the trial may be fast tracked and could be over in a matter of months. 'The government is acting seriously against the people involved in the crimes against foreigners,' he added. -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes.

[Goanet] More on Maqbool Fida Hussain's Hypocrisy
Dear Santosh, You have suggested that whatever Dr.Raja has stated is false. You may wish to clarify- 1.Has Hussain not painted Hindu deities in an obscene manner and thereby offended Hindu sensibilities?Has he painted any other religious figures or for that matter any other figures like his favourite Madhuri Dixit in the nude? 2.Did he or did he not support the emergency? 3.Does Qatar offer greater democratic freedoms than India? Secularists may defend Hussain and his paintings until the cows come home, but the fact of the matter is that secularism is not a ticket to offending religious sensibilities on a selective basis in the name of creative art. This is what Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has stated- Ravi Shankar flays Husain for nude painting BANGALORE: Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Monday expressed surprise over the hue and cry over painter M.F. Husain's move to give up Indian citizenship and chided him for painting Indian gods in the nude. While India has a policy of free expression, one cannot accept blatant insult to the heroes of its land. It is the intention behind a man's creativity which is questionable, Ravi Shankar said in a statement. In one of Husain's paintings of Mahatma Gandhi, Karl Marx, Albert Einstein and Hitler, he painted only Hitler nude and said that his way of humiliating a person is to paint him nude. No one has ever sculpted Rama and Sita as nude. Creative expression is always welcome. No country has been as liberal as India... Any nude woman could have been painted by him but calling the women Sita, Lakshmi (and) Saraswati shows his perversion and hatred. Will M.F. Husain show the same creativity and the same spirit with Islamic heroes and would he, then, be able retain his Qatari citizenship? Double standards, Regards Vasant Baliga The letter by Hilda Raja spreads falsehoods and smears. For example, Husain has never painted Saraswati copulating with a lion, which Raja claims he has. [Goanet] Dr. Oscar Rebello’s question to God
Selma, I do not think there is anything courageous in declaring oneself atheist. In today's world. It has in fact become fashionable to do so. A person does not become a better person by becoming an atheist. It is qualities of head and heart that makes one a good human being and not any ism's or religiosity. History is replete of persons who professed great religiosity or atheism who wrought monstrosities. Examples are Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Mugabe, Idi Amin. George Bush II a born again caused tremendous bloodshed and misery in Iraq. Elections are not won by practicing religion but more by exploiting religious sentiments. All the same, I believe Dr Oscar Rebello to be a fine person and my best wishes are with him. Regards, Marshall

Frederick Noronha: Stupid sounds a bit rude. If you say insensitive or ill-informed it might make for a better point :-) Response: You do have a valid point. My apologies to Dr Barad. On a separate note, have these changes in terminology/ sophistry made a difference to the world we are living in? For example, 'housewife' has become 'homemaker', 'maid' has become 'houseworker', 'prostitute' has become 'sex worker', 'mentally ill' has become 'mentally challenged', 'lame' has become 'physically challenged', 'under developed country' has become 'developing country', 'government overthrow' has become 'regime change'. In Arabic even today it is thus - Abu Giles - i.e. father or Giles (Since Giles is better known among his friends). So one can have a long line of 'Al Saud'Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman al Saud. Which literally shows the line up to Abdul Rahman who was incidentally, was also the father of King Abdel Aziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia. [Goanet] REPORT: Cuncolim Welfare Trust Annual Social Fiesta
President’s Note Friends, Cuncolkars, Countrymen The Trustees, Committee Members and myself Wish You All a “Happy Feast” and welcomes you all to celebrate our togetherness at the Gala Annual Day Celebration. May our Patroness “Our Lady of Health” intercede for each one of you and your families and may you be blessed with Good Health, Happiness, Peace and Prosperity all through 2010. Hope 2009 had been kind to you and your family. Photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/noellakittu/CuncolimSocial# It has been kind to the Cuncolim Welfare Trust. We had set a modest target and achieved it. On Independence Day, August 15, 2009, in Cuncolim Goa - 59 Eligible students were provided financial aid ; 25 students received Sponsorships ; 25 Meritorious students were awarded scholarships A drawing/painting competition was organized in Cuncolim on the occasion of the Independence Day, which was well patronized and attended. An annual trip to Khandala was organized for Committee/subcommittee members and their families, and of course the Annual Gala Get-together 2009 which was well attended. You the Well-wishers, Donors, Committee Members and Trustees deserve a pat on the back. A ‘BIG THANK YOU’ to you all, we are grateful for your efforts and valuable contribution. However, we cannot stop here, but increase our efforts towards our welfare activities for which we gained the trust of the Cuncolkars. Our First need is the greatest need – You Cuncolkars. We need you to become members – make members. We need each one of you to contribute towards the Trust by registering as members, Come on The membership is only Rs 500/- per person and every adult member of the family is entitled to become and should become a member. This appeal is to all Cuncolkars, especially the young blood to establish your roots. We understand many people have moved house, if your address has changed, please drop your card or intimate us your new address and telephone/cell no. so that we can get in touch with you. We also have to make the Trust a dynamic and vibrant entity with its own distinct identity. The first and foremost step - the registered office/premises of the Trust must be legally transferred in the name of the Trust. It is unfortunate and sad that after all these years the Trust has no legal home to call its own. We are grateful to all the stalwarts who held the premises in “trust” in the past. Legal consultations are on to effect this goal and the co-operation of all committee members past and present, Trustees and well-wishers will be appreciated. I end this note, thanking you all once again and wishing you All the Best for the New Year 2010. Dev Boren Korum Nassim DeSouza President (Bandra, Mumbai-Dandora, Cuncolim) Cell No.9920939453 THE CUNCOLIM WEFARE TRUST ANNUAL SOCIAL FIESTA For many of you who were not able to make it on the 7th of Feb, 2010.. we give you a gist into what you missed at the wonderful fiesta!! In the hustle bustle of our lives, we very rarely have the time to meet and greet each other and the Cuncolim Social Gathering is one such place where you get your chance to do that... God was and always will be the center of our celebrations and so we started with the Holy Mass, which gives you a divine feeling of being one with your community and with all, gathered there. We, a small family, the members, wanted to make this Social a one with a difference, a one where all feel they are a part of it. So we chose a new venue, a new setting-indoors-The Willingdon Gymkhana-Santa Cruz. We began the afternoon with the achievements, as that's what makes us proud of knowing that we are not anywhere behind in terms of academic excellence and that makes me proud that amongst us we have students topping with 90% and above. I wish all Cuncolkars take this as an example and strive to make a place for yourselves in this vast world, the sky is not the limit anymore. Not to forget the Sports and other activities too that are equally important in our lives and give us the spirit to be energetic and healthy. The Presidents Speech, and the thank you note by Hon. Secretary-Ronnie Almeida was sweet and short, and one that gave us clarity of all that we do and all that we want to do as committee members/Cuncolkars, and a meaning to feel that we are ONE and should remain so.When we work to-gether, we learn from each other and accomplish more that we could do alone. Truly it is the combined effort of each and every one of us that allow us to achieve our goals. Lets get to the fun and frolic, the dance sessions of Beat It and “Fruit Salad Mix” by Susie was a great entertainer...keep it up Susie, we need enthusiastic people around who can make us shake a leg and everything else too. The DJ and Compare were great too, they made sure the young and not so young were entertained with excellent music, dance and games. The

Selma: Wonderful topic ... a few contextual titbits on the subject: The brother of the creater of James Bond Fleming was the Governor of Seychelles ... His butler was a Goanese I think the Goans had a head start because studying European languages, PPortuguese, English and French was part of the school system in Goa. .. the fact that they were Christians was a huge advantage ... in more ways than one ... I am reminded about EM Foster Passage to India ... the Goans had fewer inhibition about talking to the opposite sex etc. In Tanganyika , Goans actually were in charge of the Catering Department from Day one . this meant all the First Class Resturant on the trains plus all the Railway Hotels .. The catering for our wedding in 1963, well into independence was done by the Railways, there was still a Goan in Charge and what is more there were enough cooking utencils and help to cater for 300 or more people ,,, About two years ago .at the Railway Hotel in Dodoma yes there was a Muhindi from India he turned out to be a fellow Goan. Were there any Goan Barbers in East Africa? Goans are really all over the world ... even in Timbuctoo it happened to be me. [Goanet] M.F. Husain: Saint or Sinner?
M.F. Husain: Saint or Sinner? The saga of M.F. Husain, one of India’s best known Art figures, is a cruel reflection of our times and our society’s growing Intolerance. The formidable Artist who has been described by Forbes magazine as the ‘Picasso of India’ has recently been conferred the citizenship of Qatar and is once again in the news. Using the Socratic Q A method, here is my attempt to share my opinions on the controversial Artist and to set a few misgivings about him straight. Is M.F. Husain anti-Hindu? No. M.F. Husain is one of the greatest Artists of modern times and his body of work will speak for itself. Throughout his life, he has been inspired by the richness of Hinduism. He has lived one decade of his life drawing the Ramayana, another decade drawing the Mahabharata. 50,000+ paintings in a career spanning seven decades, a majority of which have been dedicated to Hindu Art, culture and traditions. Before he embarks on a major Painting, he paints a ‘Ganesha’, a form he loves the most and he has drawn hundreds of ‘Ganeshas’ in his career. His painting ‘Mahabharata- The Battle of Ganga and Jamuna’ was sold for an astronomical record price at Christies Auction. He deserves a lot of credit for successfully promoting Hindu Art on the World stage and for creating a huge market for it. Far from being anti-Hindu, one can safely say that Husain is undoubtedly the perfect ‘Poster Boy’ of Hinduism. Is Husain’s Art profane? Whether his Art is stunning or obscene is a matter of perspective. Just as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, so too does obscenity. His nude paintings are not vulgar characterizations meant to offend but are sensual abstract depictions where the body parts are not clearly distinguishable. If we call his Paintings vulgar, what do we have to say about all the other sensual sculptures that adorn the Temple walls? Are they vulgar too? Sensual and beautiful- Yes, Vulgar - No! Has Husain insulted Hinduism through his Art? Hindu civilization and culture has always had a significant place for erotic art, where Sex, beauty and sensuality have been celebrated since ancient times. Such sexual, erotic and sensual illustrations can be seen through the Lajja-gouris of Ellora, the images of Modhera, Konark and Khajuraho, the Ragamala paintings from Rajasthan, Mirabai’s love poems on Krishna, etc. The Valmiki Ramayana too is such a sensual piece of literature. You will understand what Hinduism is if you go to the villages and the interiors. There, the Gods are not just feared but are loved, decorated and celebrated. You will see images of Gods made out of coconut shells, petals, flowers and so many other creative and abstract forms. That is what Hinduism is - a living civilization. Hussain’s paintings are mere imitations of the essence and spirit of India’s rich millennial tradition. He has is no way insulted the Hindu religion but has only carried her glorious traditions forward. So why are Hindus opposing Husain’s Art? Husain is an internationally acclaimed Artist, an Artist who has won several National and International honors for the same body of works which many find objectionable today. It is pertinent to note that the paintings which are in the eye of a storm now were drawn few decades back and did the rounds in many villages and exhibitions spread across India without there being even a murmur of protest then. There is a large disconnect between the pluralistic principles of Hinduism and those who oppose Husain’s Art. The opposition one sees today is largely due to the negative campaigning that is being done against the great Artist - by Activists of Political parties who are deliberately misinterpreting his Art, inserting contrary captions and trying to show his paintings in extremely poor light. It is nothing but a systematic campaign of deceit and deception. As for the others, the mind can conceive only what it is programmed to believe. Those who oppose Husain’s Art will learn to appreciate it only if they keep their minds open, not blinded by Ideology or Religion. They must realize that the opposition to his Art is merely a political one – a predatory lust for power. Why has Husain not drawn the Gods of other religions in the nude? If Husain has not drawn nude paintings of other Gods, it is because there is no such tradition in those religions. Moreover, the Artist has not drawn his canvasses to insult Hindu beliefs or sentiments. To use the Artist’s own words, every single drop of paint on them has been done with the deepest of love and devotion. His canvases are thus a rich tribute to Hinduism and Hindus must be proud that here is a Muslim Artist who is promoting their folk, culture and traditions. Each religion has its own strengths and weaknesses. Hinduism’s greatest strength is the vast amount of creative Freedom it gives to its followers. By opposing Husain’s Art, ‘Hindutva’ activists are unfortunately turning this great strength into a weakness and by doing

At first I thought it must be a typo, but you have used the same word twice. In this part of the world, when people have a bud day party, they usually get the munchies. Donuts and cake become a prime craving i.e. as something to eat and not as something to throw around. As far as Dr. Rebello is concerned, boy, I sure am glad that there are people in Goa who can think for themselves. The day may return when people will vote based on their and the politicians political convictions. Right now, Goa has regressed to voting based on religious groupings. This can only lead to chaos. Dear Selma, The original phrase, in 895 A.D*. and thereafter, was Godd gibb thee a gode morwene, which was eventually shortened through lip laziness to gode morwene. How do I know this? Thank you God in Konkni ? Borges bab, it is a tricky question but not to a casteist catholic.i.e. belief in Bharatiya God for being bamon or chardo together with belief in Semitic God. Then the answer is really simple : Devan Devac borem korun.
Re: [Goanet] Jewish Surname
Dear Dr. Barad, You must be as impressed as I am with how much Goanetters know about first century Palestine, etc. Anyway. I will skip Jesus the Christ's surname, but give you the surname of another Jesus who presumably lived before Jesus Christ. He was Jeshu ben Pandira. Its all esoteric material, and Steiner of Anthroposophyhttp://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/EsoChristian/1904p01.html talked about this enity in a 1911 lecture in Leipzig. (Btw, the name Jesus has undergone multiple transliterations). It a bit odd, but today I went to pick up a book by Richard Smoley, The Dice Game of Shiva (recommended by mt friend Madhav Chari from Chennai), but before I got to it--a book on Steiner's lectures, and the Leipzig lecture caught my attention. Such things happens to me often, but lets leave it at that. I believe that it behooves us to be reasonable with each other on Goanet, if we are to maintain some relationship over the next say two decades. My point being that with all our insecurities, it is as though a red flag has been shown to the bulls when one says, But right now I am curious to know the SURNAME of our lord Jesus Christ Even if you are a Christian, the question is a bit jarring. How about, Can someone tell me what was Jesus's surname?, and perhaps also in a separate email. But before that anticipate that in the first place such things are known to a few, very few, and also fewer Catholics read the Bible. So I hope you checked out for yourself on Wiki, etc., or some encyclopedia. Do understand, that this is a suggestion and by now you must know I harbor no ill will towards you or others---although I do get up in arms sometimes for reasons other than encountering difference of I and the Other as opposed to the I, leading to We---related to Ahamkara. Having learnt, and learning from Samkhya, Sanathan Dharma, Zen etc., I really do believe that Indian Christians can too, as well as, there being a lot in western societies that we can all learn from. [Goanet] ...and the North Goa results
Politically speaking, the results of the Zilla Panchayat elections in North Goa on Tuesday didn’t go in favour of any single political party or grouping even as the opposition BJP seems to have taken a beating. As if the last month’s political rumblings reflected on ZP elections, the Group of 7 MLAs, put up a fairly good show on their own. Health Minsiter Vishwajeet Rane-backed Sattari Yuva Morcha fielded seven candidates of which six won in Sattari and Bicholim taluka. They wrested Mayem from BJP and Usgao-Curti from Ravi Naik. Their candidates emerged victorious and that too with huge margins in Pale, Kudnem, Nagargao and Honda. MGP’s Dhavlikar brothers - Sudin and Deepak- also managed to get their nominees elected from their respective constituencies. Besides, one candidate of the MGP won in Pernem taluka. Unattached MLA and Education Minsiter Babush Monserrate saw to it that his nominee Janu had a smooth sailing in Taleigao while reportedly he had backed one candidate in Santa Cruz who defeated MLA Victoria Fernandes’ candidate. In Tivim, NCP MLA Nilkant Halarnkar proved his popularity by getting his nominee Diana Braganza elected in a triangular contest from Tivim where even a candidate was strongly supported by Dayanand Narvekar. Former BJP legislator Sadanand Tanavde’s candidate failed to do well. Apparently, only four candidates supported by BJP were successful in North Goa. Vishwajeet Rane has said that considering the response of the voters in the ZP polls, the non-Congress, non-BJP groupings would have their president in the new NGZP. COUNTER CLAIMS: While President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Subhash Shirodkar claimed victory in 13 constituencies out of 30, the BJP reacted defensively saying polls were not held on political lines. Party President Laxmikant Parsekar tried to rubbish the claim of the Congress. Shirodkar said excluding those won by Sattari Yuva Morcha, the Congress has done well. “We’ll be able to wrest power,” he said. Parsekar said their workers or well-wisher had contested on their own. Nonetheless, he said 7-8 office bearers have won – in both the districts. CONGRESS: Congress MLAs more-or-less succeeded in holding on to their fort as most of the candidates backed by them have won. This was seen in Bardez where both the Dayanand Narvekar-backed candidates Kunda Bagkar (Aldona) and Gupesh Naik (Penha-de-Franca) won the seats while Agnel Fernandes-supported Abelina Menezes retained her seat in Calangute and Jayesh Salgaocar in Reis Magos. Similarly, former transport minister Pandurang Madkaikar got his brother Dhaku elected from Cumbarjua and Vrunda Naik from Chorao. St Andre MLA Francis Silveira worked hard to get his brother Antonio re-elected from St Lawrence constituency. In Pernem, Sports Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar succeeded in warding off the opposition from the BJP and got his nominees elected. Only two candidates supported by their MLAs in the taluka did well. Party President Laxmikant Parsekar represents Mandrem and Dayanand Sopte Pernem. In Siolim, it was partial success for the opposition party as only one candidate nominated by local MLA Dayanand Mandrekar won while the other lost. Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar with his nominee managed to hold on to Latarbarcem. The big success for the BJP in North was in Saligao. As analysed earlier, the Sunday polls turned out to be an interesting battle of ballots. Dilip Parulekar’s candidate Michael Lobo, despite I-T raid less than a month before the poll, eventually, got the better of architect Tulio D’Souza – the son-in-law of former CM Dr Willy in Saligao constituency. Tulio lost by around 700 votes. Apparently, for the second time, Trajano D’Mello and Salim Shaikh contributed to the defeat of the de Souzas. Former Saligao sarpanch Daya Mandrekar supported by the duo polled around 1500 votes. Meanwhile, sources said in quite a few constituencies (mainly in Bardez and one or two in Tiswadi) money power played an important role to win over voters. _ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. Re: [Goanet] More on Maqbool Fida Hussain's Hypocrisy
Dear Vasant, Good to hear from you. My point is limited to the fact that her letter contains misinformation, and that many charges made against Husain are unfounded, especially the ones that ascribe sexual and communal meanings to his art. Those who are offended by the three or four verified nude paintings of Hindu deities that he has painted have the right to peacefully protest against him and criticize him. The right to free expression cuts both ways. Cheers, Santosh --- On Tue, 3/9/10, Vasant Baliga vabal...@yahoo.com wrote: Dear Santosh, You have suggested that whatever Dr.Raja has stated is false. Double standards, Regards Vasant Baliga
