[Goanet] North East people fleeing Bangalore.
In the article titled Mystery of the NE exodus: Why Bangalore? by Lakshmi Chaudhry Aug 16, 2012 http://www.firstpost.com/india/mystery-of-the-ne-exodus-why-bangalore-419876 .html gives an impression that it is only from Bangalore that there is an exodus. It seems that the author of the article is unaware that there is an exodus from other parts of India, including Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The author also gives an impression that the people from North East have no reason to leave their present places, and that perhaps it is rumors created by the right wing groups that is a problem. I must say that I am confused. Best regards, U. G. Barad

[Goanet] PANIC FLEEING ASSAMESE
This is what vote bank politics can do! Rely on migrants who are protected and pampered over residents to ensure winning at elections. In Assam Congress got a second term, and business as usual to get a third term. Immigrants provide cheap labour. It is government and vested interests that have subverted the Constitution, dispensed with immigration laws etc to stay in power.Using communalism, and permitting rabid fanatic organizations to function, politicians have made a mess of the whole nation! We aught to be grateful to Anna and Ramdev. Their quirks and perceived corruption (overlooked so far, but highlighted now) are irrelevant, which is what the government uses to deflect from the message! Shoot the messenger, forget the message. And we like fools swallow this hook, line and sinker!
[Goanet] Village names
Interesting history of village names, and since my family comes from one of the villages. But isn't it time to write how to sustain these villages from the bharati onslaught. BC *VILLAGE NAMES* * * By: Radharao F.Gracias * * My family has lived for generations in a little village called Calata, which with Majorda and Utorda constitutes one Village Panchayat and previously formed the Parish of Mae de Deus. Utorda is now the separate parish of Our Lady of Lourdes. The etymology of my village, is clearly apparent, if one looks at the original Konkani names, Khala?ta, Maz?odde and Utor?de. It simply means lower, middle and upper parts and that is the lay of the villages, along the Arabian Sea.

[Goanet] ARREST THE PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR OF KYA SUPER COOL HAIN HUM FILM
SHANTARAM NAIK M P 602, BRAHMAPUTRA, DR B D MARG, NEW DELHI 9868181344 09422439990 17 th August 2012 ARREST THE PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR OF KYA SUPER COOL HAIN HUM FILM FOR THE FAVOUR OF PUBLICATION Mr Shantaram Naik M P has demanded the arrest of producer and director of Hindi film Kya Super Cool Hain Hum for hurting the religious sentiments of Christian community. * While raising the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, Mr Naik said that In one of the scenes in the film ,a christian priest has been shown in bad light and is shown solemnising 'marriage' of two dogs.*** * * * Earlier one of the dogs in the film was named as Frakruddin which name was deleted by the producers.*** * *A scene shows a priest sprinkling holy water when a bitch and a dog engage in sexual act. Actor Anupam Kher in the film says Mother Marry said that his dead mother was a reincarnated as a bitch . There are many other dialogues which can hurt sentiments of christian community, Mr Naik said. * * Mr Naik said that That these scenes has hurt the religious sentiments of christian community which hails a priest in high esteem, and that , a priest is not only bestowed with serious religious duties , but is supposed to be guide and philosopher to many members of the community. Comedy certainly is a part of all every society but, while presenting comedies in any art form , no one's religious sentiments can be hurt. Freedom of expression does not give license to a film producer or director play with the sentiments of others , much less with religious sentiments, Mr Naik said. The film contains a number of double-meaning filthy dialogues. he said he has no objection to them if they have been considered as permissible by the Censor Board. But, in a movie with this type of background, showing a christian priest solemnising 'marriage' of two dogs is all the more objectionable. In any case, Producers, directors and others in charge of film production and distribution should be hauled up under sections 295A and 298 which are the two main provisions dealing with offences relating to religions, mentioned in the Indian Penal Code, MrNaik said. Mr Naik demanded that The powers of Union Government of reviewing the decision of Film Censure Board should now be restored back by way of amendment to Cinematograph Act. However, an FIR can be lodged by the Central or any State Government under the said provisions of the Indian Penal Code and refrain the producers/ exhibiters from exhibiting the film any further. Besides, it must be remembered that section 295A is a cognizable offence and therefore, it is the duty of police machinery to act and arrest the culprits, Mr Naik said. SHANTARAM NAIK

Analysts are jumping to conclude that the crisis was foretold. They blame delays caused by environment and forest clearance procedures and demand winding down the regulatory framework so that we can re-energise ourselves. Their other favourite whipping horse is ‘free’ electricity to farmers, which is said to be crippling the state electricity boards. These explanations are naïve and mistaken. India’s power sector does need urgent reform, but first we need to know what to fix. Firstly, data analysed by the Centre for Science and Environment clearly shows environmental clearance is not an obstacle to power infrastructure. In fact, the pace and scale of clearances given to power plants are a jeopardy for the environment. In the five years preceding August 2011, 267 thermal power plants adding a total of 0.21 million megawatt (MW) were cleared—capable of more than doubling the current capacity. It is also incorrect that green clearances are holding up India’s coal production. Clearances have been readily given. But the problem is that Coal India Limited is a monopoly player and sits on 0.2 million ha of mine lease area, including 55,000 ha of forestland. Its reserves are some 64 billion tonnes, but production lags at only 500 million tonnes per annum. As a result, every power producer wants a private coalmine and forests can be dug and destroyed. Secondly, the matter of ‘free’ power to farmers needs more enquiry. The recent Report of the High Level Panel on Financial Position of Distribution Utilities, headed by former auditor general V K Shunglu, finds huge anomalies in data used to estimate 20 per cent usage by the agriculture sector. For instance, Jammu and Kashmir, where transmission and distribution losses (TD) are as high as 70 per cent, estimates that farmers use 28,000 units per pumpset; in Rajasthan too, where losses are high, farmers consume 11,000 units per pumpset. But Tamil Nadu, with lower TD losses of 15 per cent, shows just 5,300 units used perpumpset. The panel concludes that states hide inexplicable power losses in farmers' accounts. There is, thus, no reliable estimate of power used by farmers. However, it cannot be argued that agriculture should get ‘free’ power. There is no doubt that farming needs to be energy-efficient, and that ‘free’ power adds to the mindlessness in resource use. But if farmers must pay for power, then the government must account for its price in the cost of food. Currently, India is caught in a double bind. We need to procure large quantities of foodgrains to meet the needs of large numbers of people. The government must keep food production costs as controlled as possible. But input costs—labour and energy—are increasing. The minimum support price—which has seen a much-needed increase in recent years—does not keep up with this cost hike. So, farmers lose out. Free energy to farmers is not the question. The price of growing food in a globalised and subsidy-distorted market is. So, why the power crisis? The reasons are deeply systemic and extremely worrying, First, there is no doubt that supply is constrained. In the past some years, governments have built power infrastructure at a feverish pace. But without much thought. As a result, today, India produces more electricity than previous years, but all this comes from coal-based thermal plants. Between April 2011 and June 2012, according to the Central Electricity Authority, hydro—needed as peaking power—was down by
[Goanet] Press Note-Meet the Artiste Francisco Almeida alias Shahu
*Press Note* *For Favour of Publication* *Meet the Artiste – Francisco Almeida alias Shahu* Tiatr Academy of Goa’s monthly programme *‘Kolakarak Bhett’* – *Meet the Artiste* will be held on Wednesday, 22nd August 2012 at 4:45 pm at Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The tiatr artiste of this month is Goa's top-notch musician *Francisco Almeida *popularly known as* Shahu.* Shahu was born to Pedro Almeida and Caitan Francisca Almeida on 18thJanuary 1975 at Sanjoao Moll Macazana, Salcete, Goa. He plays various musical instruments like the Drums, Guitar, Saxophone and Keyboards. He first learnt to play the drums under the guidance of musician Errol Perry, son of Goa’s Great Musical Legend Chris Perry. Music became his first love and he was so captivated by the power of music that gradually as the years passed he learnt to play the guitar, saxophone and keyboards on his own abilities. Shahu is based in Kuwait and he is the first Goan musician to play a one-man band in tiatrs staged in Kuwait. Shahu has performed in tiatrs of veteran tiatr directors such as Rosario Rodrigues, Prem Kumar, Roseferns, Philip Almeida, Milagres de Chandor, Menino Mario, Mariano Fernandes, Menino de Bandar, Pascoal Rodrigues, Anil Pednekar, C.D. Silva, John D' Silva, Ben Evangelisto etc, apart from all the directors in Kuwait. Shahu was greatly appreciated for his unique music in Kuwait based director Jose Rod’s Non-Stop Konkani Drama ‘*Tujem Nanv Vhodd Zanv’* the premiere of which was held in Kuwait. Planning something innovative, Jose Rod had the music for his full drama composed, pre-recorded and played on a Synthesizer instead of being played by a live band with Music Maestro Shahu handling the same single handedly and efficiently. In one of his recent performances, Shahu captivated the audience at the Kuwait Goa Tiatristhanchi Sonvstha (KGTS) Konkani musical entitled *'Tiatristachi Molladik Kholla'* held recently at Indian Community School-Salmiya Kuwait. He led a group of musicians orchestrating on his favorite keyboards as well as the saxophone. With his ability to play different instruments, Shahu also leads a band in Kuwait called 2..S#arp. With 2...S#arp, Shahu's music spans a broad range of harmonies, from Goan and foreign-inspired music to more modern trends with mixtures of genres and ethnic elements. Shahu’s love and passion for the Goan ‘Khells’ (folk plays) brings him to Goa every year without fail during the Carnival season to play music for Carnival folk plays. Shahu has been recognized by various associations/clubs for his immense contribution to music in tiatrs. The ‘United Club of Utorda’ bestowed on him the ‘Best Musician Award’ in the year 2008 in Kuwait. In 2010, the ‘Doha Goans Sports Club’ awarded him the ‘Best Musician Award’ in Doha Quatar. He was also felicitated by The Kuwait Goa Tiatristhanchi Sonvstha (KGTS) in the year 2010 for his outstanding music. Dr.Francisco Colaco, eminent cardiologist and art lover from Margao will render a special song on this occasion. All tiatr lovers are requested to attend the function. * Victor de Sa* Member Secretary

[Goanet] Dishonourable Acts
Gabe, Has it ever occured to you that the reason no one responds to your questions is because nobody really gives a hoot. People on Goanet think they are somehow important. The fact of the matter is, we are all pointless dots on the planet sucking up air and filling up space. Some are sucking up more air than their fair share talking non-stop nonsense on Goanet. As to your other question about being barred from Goan Association events, in the link below: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-July/223280.html you yourself informed the audiences of Goanet that you have been intimated by a letter that you are barred from attending Goan Association UK functions and declared persona non grata. Or did you forget? No need to explain, we are all aging, doddery and addled. I can give full details of the above decision but then again I'm far too decent to do that. I leave that sort of dishonourable act to the people you keep company with. Best, selma
Re: [Goanet] Your help is requested!!!
Dear Uday, Why are you not interested in a debate? Is there no space for the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method ? Can you define what it means to be a Hindu? Or a Catholic? There are different and diverse definitions for each, but that doesn't mean to say that some shared sense of commonality doesn't exist (even in might primarily surface on a Sunday morning, Thursday evening, feast day or when we need to polarise votes for an election). Because of Goa's peculiar past, we have very differing understanding of what makes a 'Goan'. It could be argued that the identity is a product of accidents of history, from Parashuram (and earlier) to the Portuguese. But then, so is today's modern Indian identity... and four-and-half (or even just under two) centuries of shared experience cannot be wished away. I'm not suggesting a Two Goa theory here ... in fact, even within religious groupings there are divides of caste, geography, class, language, etc... But what I'm saying is that we have to (i) accept the multiplicities while defining this identity and (ii) create space for The Other, instead of just trying to exclude him/her, something which we have been great at doing over centuries. It is sad to note that Eduardo Faleiro and his Congress were sleeping all this while and have just woken up from deep slumber due to not being at the helm of affairs and in the driving seat in Goa. In fact, many Russians, some with a criminal background, own large properties in Goa in their own name or benami and have setup restaurants and hotels which often double up as bases for illegal drug trade, prostitution, human trafficking and such other anti social activities. The MLA of Mandrem constituency and the present Health Minister, Shri. Laxmikant Parsekar, is on record as saying at a Gram Sabha meeting at the Morjim village Panchayat, “these Russians have all kinds of vices and the moment the Russian tourists come to one place all other tourists flee from there. Even earlier we had tourists from other countries but we never had this problem.” Parsekar said that the volume of Russian tourists in the State had triggered a virtual cultural invasion in Morjim and surrounding areas and because of their sheer numbers, the Russians were indulging in “dadagiri” At this meeting, the Morjim villagers complained of the overbearing and rude nature of the Russian tourists and demanded that Russian nationals be barred from carrying on tourist related activities. Two years ago, a Russian murdered a local taxi driver, Rohidas Shetgaonkar, in this area. As of today, this Russian roams freely and carries on his hotel business as usual.
[Goanet] Avocados
Hi Fred, My own experience while still at school in Aldona was that avocados didn't do well in our Goa climate. Let me explain - my maternal grandfather(ex Zanzibar) had an avocado plant(at our Moira house) which he had grown, presumably from seed/s he had brought back from Zanzibar. The plant had grown into a huge tree but we rarely saw any fruit on it. He often told us about how delicious this fruit was(I'd never even seen one then!), but it had to be many years later that I enjoyed 'king-size avocados especially at Kisii in Kenya and also at my in-laws in Kitale(Kenya). Maybe there's someone in Goa who can come up with a more positive story? Mervyn(M)
[Goanet] Targeting Goa’s slums is a part of bamani conspiracy to hide Bamani infiltration in Communidades
http://www.bharatmukti.blogspot.in/2012/08/targeting-goas-slums-is-part-of-bamani.html Our (Bamons) goal is accomplished one drop at a time so as to never bring suspicion upon ourselves (Bamons). This prevents them (Mulnivasis) from seeing the changes as they occur August 11, 2012 issue of ‘The Goan’ carries a centre spread story titled ‘Lords of the Slums’ on pages 16-17. It blames politicians of protecting slums in Vasco, Margao, Cortalim, Dabolim and Mapusa. This weekly paper is published by Fomento Publications. Fomentos also have their interest in destructive mining all over Goa and are even proved to be using explosives illegally on the Hiralal Khodidas mine in Colomba while extracting of ore, tries to convince the readers that people from different parts of India are illegal occupants on the lands that they occupy since 1970 and 1990. The paper claims that 70% of Goa’s land is owned by 223 Communidades and communidades are known as ‘Ganvkaris’, ‘Ganvponn’ that has unique and age-old Collective land ownership pattern. It also claims that Ganvkaris (Communidades) came into existence sui juris and prior to creation of State. They were developed by clearing the jungles and establishing villages, installing their village deity and introducing private laws. It does tell that this Ganvkaris belonged to Gawdas and Velip tribes in Goa and that Fomentos along with other mining companies like Salgaoncars, Chowgules, Dempos, Sesa Goa, Vedanta, Damodar Mangalji are involved in causing irreversible damage to their habitats with their mining plunder of Goa. It does not disclose that Bamons who have infiltrated on communidades are invaders from Eurasia and they need to be shown the door. The weekly paper claims, quoting government data that all together there are 2,515 illegal constructions on Communidade lands in Goa. Further ‘The Goan’ is trying to provoke bulldozing of these ‘illegal’ constructions, this time by quoting Indian Supreme Court judgment in Civil Appeal No. 1132/2011 @ SLP © No. 3109/ 2011 pertaining to unauthorized occupants of Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat lands. It is pertinent to note that office bearers and activists like Nelson Azavedo and Luis de Sousa of Communidade movement have been repeatedly challenging the legitimacy of imposing Panchayats rule in Goa in their various presentations at Goa University and other places in Goa, and even in Court case at Goa Bench of Bombay High Court. If Communidades agree that their land belongs to Panchayats then they will be negating all that they been saying publicly since 1997. ‘The Goan’ advocates that Communidade lands be declared as Panchayat lands. It swims against the tide of Communidade Movement in Goa. The reason for this advocacy is understandable for it is well known fact that this weekly paper is playing the playing PRO role for BJP variety of Brahminism and even before this paper was launched its editor played this role as an editor of ‘oHeraldo’. For Bharat Mukti Mukti Morcha it makes no difference whether it is BJP variety of Brahmanism or Congress variety of Brahmanism for we are committed to uproot all varieties of Brahmanism. Every Brahmanism supports Capitalism in India. It is important to keep in mind that Bamons have long term interest in taking over Communidade lands in Goa, ‘rationalizing’ them and the plans to this effect are already declared in ‘Goa 2035: vision and road map’. This is a vision of Bamons, by Bamons and subscribers of Bramanism, for Bamons. Mulnivasis has nothing in it not even mention is made of existence of ST, SC, OBC people. For Bamons we are all erased and no longer exists today and also in 2035. ‘The Goan’ deliberately did not explained a the reasons behind the emergence of slums not only in Goa’s Communidade lands but all over the country. It did not explain that it is the policies of Brahmanism ushered in on 15 August 1947 onwards that was responsible for the skyrocketing poverty in India. People living below poverty line were pegged at around 12 crore in 1947. This number has witnessed sharp increase and touched 83 crore people whose daily income varies from Rs. 5/- to Rs. 20/-. This is an official government of India data as per Arjun Sengupta committee report. And there are no Brahmins living in slums, no Brahmins living below poverty line; for they are the rulers of this country and that’s why all the aboriginal people of India – ST, SC, OBC and those converted from these categories are the once who are forced to live in poverty due to the well engineered policies by the State for the past 65 years that witnessed Bamani rule of Congress and BJP to a great period of time. Why then ‘The Goan’ only targets these 2,515 houses? It is due to Bamon’s very own ways of achieving the targets of decimating mulnviasis ‘Our (Bamons) goal is accomplished one drop at a time so as to never bring suspicion upon ourselves (Bamons). This prevents them (Mulnivasis) from seeing the

Because of Goa's peculiar past, we have very differing understanding of what makes a 'Goan'. It could be argued that the identity is a product of accidents of history, from Parashuram (and earlier) to the Portuguese. I'm not suggesting a Two Goa theory here ... in fact, even within religious groupings there are divides of caste, geography, class, language, etc... [Goanet] avocado
Dear Rico, The avocado seems to grow pretty well in Goa without any particular care. I have two of the plants in my garden, which began yielding last year but did not flower this year. I have two neighbours Manuel Godinho and David Dias both of whom have trees in full yield this year. If you come to Margao you could just visit the clinic of Dr.Ricardo Telles along Abade Faria Road where you will find the tree in full fruit. However, it appears that the trees come as male, female or a combination of both. The former two will not fruit if grown singly or two of the same type. The same problem is noticed with nutmegs. Hence, the best option is to go for a graft. Radharao F.Gracias

In Salcette, there are avocado trees growing and no fruit, while some of them bear fruit sporadically. One hears they require shade and a slightly cooler climate. [Goanet] 102 Year Old Aunty Mary's Funeral on Saturday at 10 am
http://www.heraldgoa.in/newscategory/Obituaries/22 Today's newspapers announced the funeral of Maria Conceicao D'Souza or Aunty Mary as we used to call her. A glance at the obituary notice tells us she was born on 11 April 1010 and she died on 7 August 2012 which means she lived to the ripe old age of 102 years. Some record! Having said that whenever someone wishes me - May you live to be a hundred - I retort - Why do you want to curse me like this? I have seen too many octogenarians forget about nonagenarians who live a misery of a life which is also a misery to their caregivers - (God bless them all). The situation is one which the aged do not want but cannot do anything about this. But in Aunty Mary we have an exception for even till a short time before she died she was fairly well in control of her senses, although age meant that she could not concentrate for extended periods of time. The final time I met her she inquired with me about my niece in England whom she was aware that she was married, she asked about what was happening with the other portion of her house in Novo Portugal was, and so on and so forth. In the good old days, from the mid 1970s right up to about the turn of this century she and Uncle Paul was part of a clique of Novo Portugal folk which included Laura and Joseph D'Souza and my mother Jasmina among others who used to gather and pray and chat at the Novo Portugal chapel every evening when the weather was fine. She is the last of that generation to go. Sitting there at the chapel, they used to gossip about the 'good old days' and recount tales about how life was in Africa. She and her husband Paul lived in Uganda until I think Idi Amin saw to it that they had to leave. Aunty Mary and Uncle Paul had a lovely parrot they had brought back with them from Africa. It was called Suku and could speak out a variety of phrases. After Paul died, her children took her to America and I believe had to leave it behind when she ultimately came back to Goa when she found that the place did not agree with her too well. Aunty Mary had an earthy sense of humour. Here is one anecdote her neighbour Noel Pinto related to me. He used to tease her about the bad old days back in Goa; Aunty, how much of dowry did you have to give to get married to Uncle Paul? he once asked. Quick as a flash she answered: Doth?? Humpf!! Don dudi ani ek mudi puro asli!! For those who don't understand Konkani what she said was: 'We didn't have to give dowry - two pumpkins and a ring were all that was needed' I don't think I'll be able to make it tomorrow for her funeral, so my fond farewell to the grand old lady of Novo Portugal. May her soul rest in peace. Augusto Pinto 40, Novo Portugal Moira, Bardez Goa, India E pinto...@gmail.com P 0832-2470336 M 9881126350
[Goanet] Feast of Cabo Chapel, Dona Paula - - Pics, video and comments
Feast of Cabo Chapel - Pics, video and comments 15.8.12 The feast is unique. Never seen like this before. More people visited not for the feast but for St. Paula whose grotto lies below the Cabo Chapel. Long Qs are seen with devotees carrying flowers and candles. Majority of them were non-Christians including the youth. Looks like they come here year after year i.e. on 15th August. Never heard of this little known Saint Paula nor I know how the devotion first started here. I was amazed to see such a huge crowd and they did not even mind staying in the Q under the hot sun for more than one hour. So strong must be the devotion, probably come down from their ancestors. Luckily, it did not rain. Cabo was open for Public from 8 am and were suppose to leave by 1pm due to security reasons. But even at 12.45, we saw more and more devotees joining in the Q which would take them at least 1 hour to reach to the grotto which means 1.45pm but all devotees were to leave by 1pm, don’t know if this was extended by few hours. The feast of Our Lady of Assumption is also celebrated at the Chapel but there seems to be more than one statues of Our Lady including Lourdes, Fatima etc. Infact, the organisers (Cabo Raj Bhavan staff) even distributed the customary Feast Holy pictures (Regist, see pics) of Our Lady of Fatima but at the back it says ‘Ugddas Assumpta Saibinniche Porbecho Ji Bhettoita Raj Bhavanache Kamgar, Raj Bhavan Kopelant’ For customary after feast veneration (Umao), the statue appeared to be of Lourdes, see pic The feast mass lasted more than 90 minutes, saw Governor joining in during Communion i.e. last 10 minutes or so, The chapel being so small, many devotees seen outside chapel both sides. A provision of customary feast pendal would have been nice so that the devotees get protection from sun (many seen with inflated umbrellas) . Luckily, it did not rain Our Cabo Rajniwas is known for entertaining VIPs with cultural programes and free meals. Even during minister’s swearing in ceremony which last say just 15 minutes, pendal or Mattov are erected within shortest notice. Drinking water facility could have been also provided on the feast day. However, there is an huge annual reception at 5pm today hoisted by Governor. From the main gate to the Chapel or to the Governor’s official residence, it’s about 1 KM walk, no vehicles were allowed as the same were to be parked at Helipad (see pic/video). Shuttle Bus services could have been provided to the devotees to and fro chapel on the feast day. Those who came by public transport, had to walk another KM from the Dona Paula Circle to the Main Gate. The whole Cabo area reminded me of another restricted area or another Militarily occupation. Security personnel were all over. I always wished the Governor’s official residence is relocated to Porvorim assembly complex or neaby. It would be lot cheaper in terms of money spent on security at Cabo. Moreover, public could gain unrestricted access to the former Cabo heritage area and its chapel, garden and touristic view. [Goanet] Honourable Acts
Termine, hermanos and irma ! A joy of waking up is Rolly and Selma and Gabe and Merv rocking the boat on our list. Cannot say this is simply not fun. I would wager this conversation would be civil if you met in a group, so your well wishers should not shoulder this burden. It is truly unthinkable that such gross misrepresentations of a faith can be incorporated in a film. Perhaps the film maker inadvertently mistook the Hindu Bhatt for a Christian Priest. After all, aren't Hindu's, not Christians, the ones who believe in reincarnation? And don't they consider all other Animals as 'BHAIS' and 'BEN'S' ? He should therefore edit his film by substituting the Christian Priest with a Hindu Bhatt instead. The film will then make sense. Manuel ( Eddie) Tavares.

[Goanet] PANIC FLEEING ASSAMESE
John Gomes is right. We have as a nation to rethink our whole approach to the matter of corruption. This will not be an easy task and may take considerable time to achieve. To achieve the principal goal it would be prudent to start small and to nurture the success achieved in these small steps. The examples set will in themselves project a perception of what can be achieved on a larger scale if the people and the Government are willing to take bold and sometimes hurtful steps to achieve. It can be achieved and should be perused in earnest. One has only to look at Singapore where prior to the metamorphosis that set the stage for the current society, corruption was as rampant as in India. If this could be achieved in Singapore, then we have an example which we should emulate. The people should rise up and demand that Government enact legislation to rid the country of this scourge enforcing strict laws and severely punishing those who circumvent the law for personal gain. Unfortunately the Indian due to Hindu religious beliefs even feels that he can bribe the gods, donating parts of ill gotten gains to appease deities and believe that they have achieved this end continuing to amass fortunes illegally with impunity. There must therefore be a total change in attitude and the religious class must participate fully preaching the true tenets of Hinduism and not the manipulated version which is prevalent. John's thesis of 'Shoot the messenger forget the message ' should be taken seriously. If the majority of people rise up and proclaim the message, how many messengers can be shot before radical change is achieved? This should be our aim and if sufficient numbers are for this cause, then it is achievable. We must act now before there is panic fleeing from other major areas of India which could cause a huge refugee problem. Manuel (Eddie) Tavares.

Maybe there's someone in Goa who can come up with a more positive story? --- Mervyn(M) Only a few types of avocado species can self pollinate. Secondly, most trees bear fruit only every second year. Commercial farms in the US today use grafting and hybrids to make sure that the trees bear fruit every year. There used to be some really large avocado trees at a school in Arusha, Tanzania that had the biggest pears I have ever seen. I never got to taste them though. My wife's birthplace is just a few miles from the Mexican border and center for growing/marketing avocadoes. There used to be a time when the Mexican authorities would search every border-crosser for avocadoes. If one was found, the customs official would cut open the fruit, remove the seed, and let the traveler carry on with only with the flesh. Such was the desire to protect this crop. Lastly, my grand-mom had a medium sized tree in her compound in Colvale. I never saw fruit on that tree but maybe that was because I have only been to Goa in winter. Mervyn2020
