Dear Goanetters,One of the big story on ' Lokmat' Marathi Goa edition is
... 1 Goans stay illegally in Foreign land.

This is very sad story.

Sushant Cunkolinkar has broke this story.

He says that most of these Goan stay on coastal areas. In England they most
of them are residing in Sweden area and work in Restaurants. There could be
around 1500 illegal Goan imigrants in US.

[Goanet] An Elected Politician goes underground should be punished with LIFE IMPRISONMENT.

2010-07-04 Thread shrikant barve
What is this going on…..

Goa Govt. Tourism Minister resigns and goes under ground. Lookout notice
issued against him. Applies for Anticipatory Bail to Session Court, High
court and their after Supreme Court. Everywhere it is rejected.

After few days news floats that he will appear before CID office on Saturday
3rd July 2010 at 10.30am. Police Party and his supporters waits for his
arrival in heavy rains. Instead he surrenders at Session Court, Margao. CID
ask for his Custody. Court sends him to Judicial Custody pending decision. .

A Cabinet Minister of Goa Govt. remains under ground for few days and sends
his resignation letter which CM Digamber Kamat promptly accepts and there
after he is untraceable to Police for over a 3 weeks and Court send him for
judicial custody.

Is there any separate LAW for few?

A Minister/Politician going underground should directly be sent to Life
imprisonment.

Every one in Goa knew that MICKY is wanted. All the borders Goa State as
also International Borders were sealed as Police had informed. Goa Police
were protecting him with security cover at least till he resign.

Mickey must be staying somewhere in Goa, he has passed various information
as also a note which reached to CM for approval was signed by him after
going underground.

Inquiry should be initiated against all those who helped Mickey to remain
under ground.

Similar is the case of Police Hawaldar Parab who remained under ground for
over 2 weeks in Goa in a Drug dealing case finally surrendered before
session Judge.

Its very bad trend and Goa's images has stained.

How is that Politicians when arrested are send to ICU by Doctors? In fact
there should be strict action against such Doctors and Politicians.

We people should demand
1.An Elected Politician goes underground should be punished with LIFE
IMPRESNMENT.
2.A Doctor recommends a person in Custody for ICU treatment on flimsy
grounds should face consequences.

Sir,

As per Sports Policy announced recently by Goa Government any student
who participates in State level selection tournament will received 15
marks. This is a good gesture and opportunity given by our Sports
Minister Babu Azgaonkar. Thanks to his vision to promote sports culture
in Goa.

This is also a good opportunity to promote sports in general and Chess,
which we look at as learning tool, in particular.

You are aware that Chess tournaments are held in various age categories
at World and National level.

They include
1. Under 7, 2. Under 9, 3. Under 11, 4. Under 13, 5. Under 15 Sub
Junior, 6. Under 17, 7. Under 19 Junior, 6. Under 25, 9. Inter City,
10. Senior National
Open Category and Girls/Women Category in each section, in all total
20 Selection Chess Tournaments are held every year.

Its a good opportunity for a chess player to participate in any one of
the selection tournament. SSC student can participate in Senior State
Selection Chess tournament and obtain the participation certificate to
avail 15 Marks benefit.

Considering this opportunity, all SSC Students are likely to participate
in Under 15 Sub-Junior Selection Tournament. National Under 15 is
scheduled to be held on Sep 4 to 12 at New Delhi.

As also SSC and Higher Secondary Students are likely to participate in
Under 19 Junior State Selection Tournament. National Junior Tournament
is schedule to be held on Sep 30 to Oct 9 at Orissa.

This is a good opportunity to promote chess among schools students.
Its a win win situation for both Goa Chess Association and Goan Students
Community.

Its only two months left for National Selection. Selected Goa Team
should also get good coaching from expert. Looking at the time
constrains Goa Chess Association should announce the dates of selection
tournament at the earliest for the benefit of all.

Yours faithfully.

Andolan Bharkatu naye, Agitation should not go wayward.
http://epaper.lokmat.com/ArticleImage.aspx?article=19_05_2010_004_001&mode=1

In today’s (May 19, 2010) editorial Lokamt Marathi daily , although new to Goa,
but having highest Goan readership has raised a very valid point.
Demonstrations, agitation are essence of Democracy. Those who lead the
demonstration should .take every step that agitation does not go wayward due to
their egoistic and aggressive approach.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has met the delegation of the demonstrator. He
also gave assurance to look into the matter with due sympathy. He was also
right to refuse to meet people outside.
It was the duty of the delegation to control the feelings of agitating group.
Agitators were so violent that they attacked Police and went to the extent that
few lady constables cloths were tore down, “Kahi Mahila Constabalche kapade
fadale” and few were injured.

My comments :
Democracy is most beautiful gift to law abiding citizens. We must preserve it.
If we want good governance it is not only duty of Administrator and Politicians
but agitators should take up most care that agitation in no way take a violent
turn.

Only 7 BPL families in Taleigao.

I am please to learn in today’s Gramsabha of Taliegao that there are only 7
Below Poverty line Families in Taleigao.
Budget of 2010/11 was passed and Accounts for 2009/10 were approved in this
Gramsabha.

It will be interesting to note that Construction in 10/11 will come down by
over 35%. In the year 09/10 Panchayat has collected over 70 lacks as
Construction License fees However they have budgeted only Rs 45 lacks for 10/11
towards Construction License fees.

It also looks like most of illegal contraction will be destroyed as House tax
collection in the year 09/10 was 58.99 lacks, however for 10/11 Panchayat has
budgeted only 55 lacks towards House Tax Collection.

Gramsabha was very noisy. Mr. Raikar, Anand Madgaocar and Anabela raised many
quires regarding garbage and illegal construction and agricultural land
convertion without any concrete proof.

I have offered myself to train chess to Balwadi Sevikas free of cost till Dec
2010. If Balwadi Sevikas learn Chess children from poor families will learn
chess. I have trained 31 Balwadi sevikas in April 2010. I have given letter to
Panchayat as also Taleigao Comunidade. Some one should other necessary
arrangements. I have given this offer at three occasions in front of Women and
Child department officers.

Sarpanch Jennifer Monserrat was not present for Gramsabha. Vice President

Gramsabha. Our MLA Antonio Monserrat intervene while garbage issue was
discussed and assured the gathering that more space will be acquired from Goa

[Goanet] Solution to Garbage issue in and around Panaji

2010-05-10 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
Solution to Garbage issue in and around Panaji
Shri K. D. Sadhale Chairman of Nirmal Wishwa Speech on "How to solve Garbage
problem"
Organiser :Nirmal Wishwa and The International Centre.
Venue : International Centre Goa,Goa University Road, Dona Paula Goa

Date and Time : Friday May 14, 2010 at 6.00pm

The issue of garbage filthier and filthier in Goa

Are we going to live in the filth simply blaming the Government and the
Municipalities? If not who can help us?
The Mumbai terrorist attack has proved how unorganized we are at all levels.
Government, people and the media.
Are we going to live in insecurity because our protectors are insufficient? On
whom should we relied upon?
In spite of increased income, boom of technology, profusion of consumerist
facilities, the social, family and personal life is becoming drab. Conflicts,
frustrations, tensions, and suicides are increasing. Divorces are one step rise.
Are we going to wait for somebody to come and rescues? If not whom should we
approach?
The environmental degradation pollution of our food stuff, our water, our air
and ambience is rising uncontrolled. It has reached the highest level of the
knocking our doors.
Which Government has caused this? Who is supposed to rectify it? Who can do it?
The answer to all the above questions is we.
Let us move forward relying on strength of we.
Let us clean up ourselves of inner and outer dirt, self centeredness,
dependencies and weaknesses.
The move has taken a good shape in and around Ponda.

Nirmal Vishwa is only a facilitator to this cause.

Dear citizens,
Now the stage is set for garbage free Taleigao/Panaji and surrounding area by
dry garbage donation program. Store your clean dry garbage of following type
for a fortnight.

1. Soft plastic like plastic bags, wrappers.
2. Hard plastic like boxes, bottles, cans, spoiled pans, refills.
3. Papers like raddi, torn papers, note book, paper boxes, cartons.
4. Metal like packing strips, tins, foil, wire, spare parts.
5. Bottles, broken glass, cloth, thermocol etc.
Pack all the above compactly and place it in any of the collection points on
Specified Day of the week.

The garbage of the types below will not be accepted

1. Wet garbage like food items, fruits, vegetable waste, grass and plants
material.
2. Dry and wet mixed garbage and dirty garbage.
3. Building debris like broken bricks, tiles, cement items etc.
4. Chemicals and hazardous waste.

Once the management of dry garbage is complete, we look in to wet garbage which
is an easier task.

Yours faithfully
Nirmal Vishwa

[Goanet] “baba maka khabar na”

“baba maka khabar na”
I had gone to Panaji early market round. I saw a good ‘Jam kokani word’ .
Jam khachege?
Goenkar old fruit seller lady replied “ Baba maka khabar na, Amekaran dilya”
As there are special testy vegitables/fruits associated to different villages
in Goa like banaulicho nal (coconut), talgao chi kalga, mircho etc.

Frankness of old women pleased me. This has been the noticeable change among
Goan farm lady dealer. “buy to offer price by these ladies”. Usually they
don’t quote much higher. This is what we can do to retain our goaness.

EVM hacked! (We told you it's easy to do)
http://www.punemirror.in/index.aspx?page=article§id=62&contentid=201005062010050600232543c9f000db§xslt=

There’s no doubt about it. Electronic Voting Machines can be tampered with, and
a team of experts have demonstrated exactly how it's done, using an EVM from
Maharashtra

By Alka Shukla & Jaison Lewis
Posted On Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 12:23:25 AM

On March 29, 2010, Pune Mirror carried a report on how Electronic Voting
Machines (EVMs) are easy to hack into.
Why your Vote may not count?
http://www.punemirror.in/index.aspx?page=article§id=62&contentid=2010032920100329022614001c24ca9§xslt=

Now, there is proof. Setting of alarm bells well in time for the next election
in 2012, a team of researchers used a machine from the state to demonstrate two
ways in which the results could have been rigged.

The researchers, in a report posted on their website, showed precisely how a
display component could be replaced with a fake substitute programmed to steal
a percentage of the votes in favour of a chosen candidate.

They also exposed how stored votes could be changed between the election and
the public counting session, which in India can be weeks later, with a
pocket-sized device.

The team, comprising Hyderabad-based NetIndia, Dr J Alex Halderman, a
professor and noted expert on electronic voting security from the University of
Michigan and Holland-based security expert Rop Gonggrijp, was instrumental in
the ban on EVMs in the Netherlands.

Last year, NetIndia Managing Director Hari Prasad had demonstrated how the
instrument could have been tampered with, but he could prove this only
theoretically as the election commission didn’t provide him with a real EVM.

“This time, a bureaucrat provided us with a real EVM,” said Prasad. He was
vocal about the vulnerability of EVMs even as the chief election commission
vouched for their ‘infallibility’ last year.

Indian EVMs record votes only onto the internal memory of the system. There are
no paper records that allow for inspection or recount.

In fact, the vote-counting software in the EVMs is programmed to not allow the
software to be read out and verified.

“Since these chips are made in the US and Japan, this has led to a situation
where nobody in India knows for sure what software is in these machines or
whether it counts votes accurately,” reads the report.

Main issue as said by Sanjay Nirupam is Motarman want that they should be given

many of them work for almost 12 to 18 hours some times on a particular day.

As every one concerned were aware of this issue, State Govt. nor Railway

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti organized a public Hindu Dharmajagruti meeting
at Azad Maidan in Panaji on Thursday to discuss the protection of Hindu
temples, unification of trustees of the temples in Goa and igniting
pride for Dharma amongst Hindus to unite them.

The gravest attack on the Hindu Dharma today is the declaration of
religious places illegal by the administration. The list of unauthorized
religious places brought out by the government includes ancient temples that
are 350 to 500 years old. In this context, the HJS has launched a
state wide campaign in this regard. As a part of this campaign, the HJS
has conducted meetings at Pedne, Mapusa, Panaji, Ponda, Margao,
Curchorem, Canacona, Vasco, Bicholim, etc. and has met with trustees of
various temples of Goa. Signature campaigns have also been conducted at
various places in Goa.

Appeal to form a committee giving representation to main three religion

Chess and Balwadi Sevikas

“Bhugi polonuch shikatoli” Balvadi sevikas participated in our “Train-
the-Trainers” 5 day Chess Training Workshop were discussing between themselves.

If Balvadi Sewikas learn Chess then it will benefit all children from poor
families. Chess is a good tonic at young age. Talented child will get good
opportunity to perform. Chess is game which can be self developed and very
cheap which help to develop Concentration, logical thinking and decision making
abilities and also a good learning tool .

Chess Activity Centre has design a 5 day program to teach Balwadi Sevikas about
basics of Chess. Two such workshop were held at Dona Paula and Ponda in this
April. 33 sevikas took part in this program. These sevikas had experience range
from 2 years to 30 years. Attitude of all these sevikas was very positive and
they were thrilled to learn chess. All of them attended workshop in the
evening, not in their official time, spending their own money.

All of them learn Pawn Game efficiently. They now also know about en passant
move. Its a simple game with only with 8 Pawns with both side. Aim is to get
your Pawn to last rank, whoever reaches first is a winner. They also learn King
and Pawn game, wherein Pawn after reaching last rank upgrade to Queen and
checkmate opponent with the help of King and Queen.

They also learn how each peace, King, Queen, Rook Bishop, Knight moves. They
also learn basic of organising Chess tournament. With few days of practice
Balwadi Sevikas will know to play chess and pass on the knowledge of Chess to
poor children.

Balwadi Sevikas are most ignored working women in our educational system who
nurtured future of poor section families. Children from poor families are under
Balwadi Sevikas for first six years. our Chess Activity Centre has offered
this service free to Balwadi Sevikas. We also expect your cooperation and help
from other organisations, institutions, clubs, Churches, Temples, Sarvajanik

2010-03-21 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
http://news.rediff.com/column/2010/mar/20/headley-terror-david-case-us-has-let-down-india-badly.htm

The Obama administration has been repeatedly kicking us in the back. It did so
in respect of Afghanistan. It has done so in respect of Headley. Instead of
having the courage and intellectual honesty to admit to our people that we have
been let down nastily by the US, we are indulging in more spins to project the
kicks as, in fact, bouquets from Obama with love.

Dear Dr Manmohan Singh, Dear Chidambaram, Dear Pillai, and dear journalists of
the Hindu and TOI: Some weeks ago Mulla Baradar, supposedly No 2 in the Afghan
Taliban [ Images ], was arrested by the Inter Services Intelligence in Karachi.
He is in the ISI's custody. The US and Afghan intelligence wanted independent
access to him for interrogation.

The ISI refused and told them he could be questioned in the ISI's custody. The
US insisted on independent access and warned Pakistan of the likely
consequences if it did not agree to it. This week's reports say that Pakistan
has been forced to allow independent access to the Americans.

That is the way a self-respecting nation protects its interests and nationals.
For the US, independent interrogation of Baradar was necessary to hold those
responsible for American deaths in the past accountable and to prevent more
deaths in future. It insisted on it and had its way.

India is not the US. The clout which it has over Pakistan we do not have
anywhere in the world. At least we could have had the courage to protest --
loudly and openly -- instead of projecting every stab in the back by Obama as a
kiss in the back.

One general slogan is there "if character is lost everything is lost"

I have met M F Hussain in person in 90's at least twice.

I feel he has given Neutron Bomb to insult Hinduism.

He is in association with 'D' company and enjoying the fruits in his new found

Similar stories regarding Sanjay Dutt. As a young boy he was playing with AK47.
Bad part is our Judiciary accepts it.

There are many such issues... including Churchil Alemao etc.

[Goanet] Don’t block the ‘Internet Hind us’ by Kanchan Gupta

2010-03-16 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
http://www.dailypioneer.com/241956/Don%E2%80%99t-block-the-%E2%80%98Internet-Hindus%E2%80%99.html

Contrary to the impression that is being sought to be created by their critics,
‘Internet Hindus’ are open to ideas, believe in a plural, law-abiding society
and swear by the Constitution. They are often appalled by the shenanigans of
our politicians, including those of the BJP, and are ruthless in decrying
politics of identity and cynical vote-bank policies. They have no gender
prejudices and most of them think banning FTV is downright silly in this day
and age. The ‘Internet Hindus’ will not countenance denigration of their faith
or biased media coverage of events, but 91.9 per cent of them respect and
accept other religions. Asked if India is meant only for Hindus, an
overwhelming majority of them, responding to the survey, said, ‘Hell, no!’

So why do they infuriate pseudo-secularists in media and make Delhi’s
commentariat see red? There are three possible explanations. First, the Net is
beyond the control of those who control newspapers and news channels. While the
print and audiovisual media have for long excluded contrarian opinion and
denied space to those who disagree with absurd notions of ‘secularism’ or
question the quality of reportage, the Net has provided space to the ‘other’
voice. Real time blog posts now record the ‘other side’ of the day’s story
(“The Prince was shouted down in Bihar, not feted by students!”), Twitter
affords instant micro-blogging even as prime time news is being telecast
(“That’s not true. I live in Bareilly. This is not how the riots began!”), and
YouTube allows unedited amateur videos of events (the Meraj riots, the Islamist
violence in Kashmir Valley) to be uploaded, giving the lie to edited and
doctored versions shown by news
 channels.

[Goanet] 100 Job Opportunities in two years in Goa

2010-03-08 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE

Chess : A learning tool
100 Job Opportunities in two years.

“I have won”; a child, holding his opponent’s King in hand, gleefully yelled in
excitement. “You cannot capture the King but you must Checkmate him, i.e. trap
him under attack without an escape route” I had to explain to him. There are
several tricky positions in Chess. ‘Stalemate’ is one such position. A child
may have good strength on board but is still unable to trap the opponent’s King
into Checkmate and the opponent’s King if left with no further legal move. The
game thus ends in a draw. The fascinating part is that children at a young age
learn chess very easily.

A Child can learn to imbibe democratic values in a modern society through
Chess. Chess is a learning tool, an Indian Game which helps one to develop
‘Reasoning’, ‘Decision making’ and many other abilities. In a simple ‘Pawn
Game’ a child can learn simple tricks like for instance the ‘Order’ in which he
should move the pawns. He can also decide whether he must block the pawn or can
capture it.

Chess is an exercise of infinite possibilities for the mind, one which develops
mental abilities used throughout life, the goals of attack and defense,
culminating in checkmate, inspire us to dig deep into our mental reserves.
Studies have shown that children who participate in Chess are more likely to
succeed as adults.

As the child develops his game, he learns that giving a piece to the opponent
now (i.e. sacrifice) may help him after few moves. Chess games are played with
the use of timer, i.e. Chess Clocks. The child thus begins to learn ‘Time
Management’ skills. A 10 year old good chess player knows how many moves he can
make within the final 2/3 minutes of the game. Chess is a good tonic for
brain. Application of the mind; that is what Chess is!

All students should play at least a few games of Chess every week. Children who
are weak in studies must be encouraged to take up Chess. If these children play
chess, it will be good for them as well as for the society.

Children must get the opportunity to play Chess Tournaments at least once in a
month.

• Do we have the infrastructure in place for children to play chess?
• Is there Motivation to play chess?

Chess as Sport
• At the Government level Directorate of Sports organizes team
championships for Inter Secondary School, Higher Secondarily level chess
tournament every year.
• There are 450 Middle and Secondary Schools in Goa. Out of these only 30
Schools participate in Inter Secondary School chess tournaments.

Primary School.
• Chess talent can be identified at the age of 6/7/8.
• This spotted talent by the time he is out of Primary School (4th Std)
is a recognized good chess player.
There is no system in Goa at Government level to identify chess talent at
Primary School level.

Our wonder girls Ivana Furtado and Bhakti Kulkarni have motivated many children
to play chess. These two girls have won more National and International medals
in 2009 for Goa then all other sportsperson from other individual sports put
together. I can see many sparks all over Goa. But owing to the lack of proper
training and opportunity, these talents goes in vain.

Chess Training
Educate child about the basics, i.e. Chess Board, Chess pieces and how these
pieces move. Any Primary School Teacher can do this. Kindergarten
administrators can introduce chess for Upper KG. Playing Pawn Chess Games at
this level will be an interesting quiz. College students can use their few
spare hours in a week to train children and thus earn some pocket money.

Regular Chess Tournaments for Children
Chess tournaments are played in Swiss League System. It is not a knockout
system. In this system every one who has participated in the event gets an
opportunity to play all the rounds. First Paring is finalized as per
alphabetical order of participant names. All games start together. In the next
round onwards, winning players are pitted against each other and players who
have lost are drawn to play one another. The System is such that players with
equal strength get to play with each other in the last few rounds. Usually
every one wins at least one game.

For Chess tournament featuring 25 children, 5 rounds can be completed in 2/3
hours. Such tournaments can be organized in the evening in a garden, below a
big tree shade, in apartments parking space, etc. Few parents or Youths can
organize such tournaments regularly in their locality.

100 Job opportunities in 2 years
22000 children are born every year in Goa and 88000 children study in Primary
Schools in Goa. If all parents of all these children agree to spend Rs.50/- per
week on education of Chess of their Child, it is a whopping Rs 44 lakhs per
week. This means a Job opportunity to 1100 chess Players with an income of Rs

There’s a Mr Moneybags with dubious sources of income who is one of the
most pious people I have ever met. His wrist is covered with sacred red
threads which never seem to fade, or maybe he gets his threads renewed
with every new visit to a temple. There is also a Mrs Pauper who wears
ragged dirty dresses three sizes too large for her slight frame, who is
most devout. She spends most of her time praying before roadside crosses and in
churches. I know both of them rather well and the similarity of
thought, word and deed is startling.

When Mr Moneybags speaks to
me, he speaks of good things. He talks of all the good deeds he has
done. He had helped get his neighbour’s daughter a job in the police
force. He had given money to a boy who broke his leg in three places to
tide him over until he could work again. He had just finished one
pilgrimage and was planning to go on another as soon as he finished some
pending work.

When his employees talk to me, they only speak bad things about Mr Moneybags.
He is tight-fisted, mean minded, mean
spirited and had a gang of goons on his payroll who could do anything
from stoning your house to attacking you with swords and sticks. He ate
like a pig and drank like a fish, got into a drunken rage and had a
thing for very young women.

Mrs Pauper generally wept when she
spoke to me. If she was not weeping, she was sighing. She too would
speak of good things like how she was struggling to give her family a
good life through honest means. That she did not have money but she had
God on her side.

When her neighbours speak about her, they talk
about how she has a filthy tongue in her head, how she abuses them
regularly, poisons their domestic animals and birds, how she throws
filth in front of their homes. They spoke of how she didn’t have money
to feed her family, but she had enough to drink herself into a violent
rage every day.

And it struck me that both the very rich and the
very poor have so much in common. Both rich and poor get a huge amount
of freebies. Both belong to privileged sections of society. Mr Moneybags is
wooed by the powerful with an eye to his wealth. Mrs Pauper is wooed by the
powerful with an eye to her vote. A simple enough concept since
using wealth to buy votes leads to more power to the powerful.

Mr Moneybags is not in politics; he owns politicians; he dictates policy.
Mrs Pauper just has to ask her MLA to allow her to build an extra couple of
rooms on a precarious slope. He makes the necessary calls and even
builds a retaining wall so that her house and those of her neighbours
don’t slide down the hill.

The very rich and very poor can break the laws with impunity. They don’t even
bother to laugh at CRZ rules;
they just build their homes, sprawling or simple and get on with life as they
know it secure in the knowledge that no one can touch them.

They are dangerous enemies since both resort to extra-judicial activities to
sort out issues they may have with others. They think nothing of
publicly harassing, abusing or killing an enemy.

Their moral
standards (or lack thereof) are similar. Crimes of passion, murders of
paramours and spouses are common with both classes. And yet they are so
devout.

Laws, morals, ethics and moderation fall to the lot of
the middle class. They cannot afford to break the law because they have
too much built up through hard work, to lose. As piety is the armour of
the rich and poor, respectability is the armour of the middle-class.

The middle class moves in a never ending bourgeois dance between the two
other classes. Moving forward always trying to catch up with the very
rich. Always looking over their shoulder at the poor, terrified that
they will slip backwards into poverty if they don’t work hard enough.
Seems like such a waste of time.

[Goanet] True face of Goa's Chess

2010-02-12 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
This is my welcome speech infront of prominent Goan people.

FREEDOM FROM TRAP , 12/02/2010
Hari Om,
I
am very happy to welcome you all here on behalf of The International Centre Goa
and Chess Activity Centre for this Prize distribution function.

I am
hounored specially to welcome Former Law
Secretary of Goa Mrs. Anuja Prabhdesai as our Chief Guest of this function and
request
Noted Environmentalist, Historian and Social Worker and Shri Rajendra Kerkar to
priside over the function. I request Mrs.Nandini Sahai Director The
Internatioanal Centre Goa. will escort the guest to the dais.

Chess
Activity Centre started functioning from last year. We organised “Chess for
Everyone” activity every Friday evening from 4 to 7. It includes demonstration,
learning, playing and watching films related to chess.

Today
in “Chess for Everyone” started with some demonstration on chess board to all
of us. Children participated in this event. Our young coach Shravan Barve has
explained
few ways and tricks to free trapped pieces on chess board.

There after Lightning Chess
Tournament for above 25 years was held.
Chess
is an Indiangame but we ‘Chess
Activity Centre’ look it as learning tool. It teaches reasoning and develops
decisions
making abilities. Just like every Goan should know to read and write, our dream
is every goan should know chess.

You
all must be aware that since 2006 Goan children started winning medals in chess
at National and International level in various age group categories.

Thanks
to Shri Sameer Salgaokar and Dempos, Moginis and Dr. Peter Carvalho lot of
hardwork by parents and individual
chess coaches. Compered to other sports Goan
children have done exceptionally well only in chess. In 2009-10 Total number of
National or International Medals won by Goan children in all Sports are 28. Out
of these 50%, that is 14 medals are won in Chess.

Still Goahas long way to go. There are about 100 International
Masters (Rating 2300+) and 17 Grand Masters (Rating 2500+) in India. It will
take many more years for a Goan to be an
International Masters.

We
can see bright sparks in chess where ever we go in Goa.
However no proper grooming and lack of opportunities keep this bright sparks
away from Chess. Lack of vision, planning and implementation abilities among
authorities
controlling chess in Goa. And because of this Parents of this bright spark has
to suffer a lot. Few kids who won chess campionship in open category has stayed
away from chess. Its very sad story.

Promotion of chess has to be
done in two ways.
1. Chess activities should be spread all over Goa, in every Primary
School; it should be part of School curriculum. Chess tournaments should be
held at every nook and corner.
2. Grooming of Bright talent.
With your generous support, our
plan for future is as follows;
1. To Scolorship of Rs. 1000/- per month for a year for bright talent
in chess (around 10) by this year end.
2. To Organise chess coaching for beginners (We do this regularly.)
3. To Organise IM/GM level chess coaching. First of these will be in
coming April for 10 days.
4. To Organise short group (selected few) higher level chess tournament.
5. Chess tournament for different categories.
6. Emphasis on chess as learning tool

[Goanet] GRAVE INJUSTICE TO A DISTINGUISHED JUDGE

2010-02-08 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
Its very sad news to read that a honest upright officer implicated in a false
case.
We require honest people like Anjuja Prabhudesai in Goa's Administration.

She had come few times to our program.
I will Invite her as chief guest again at next immediate occasion.

Shrikant Barve

The sudden suspension of Goa's senior Judge Mrs. Anuja Prabhudesai is

deplorable. The justice delivery system has failed a very senior,
knowledgeable and distinguished judge. Mrs. Prabhudesai is known to be a
very talented, well mannered, soft-spoken yet very firm in the dispensation
of justice. Even when posted as Law Secretary of the State she refused to
bow to the illegal and unjustified designs of the politicians.

As she was the senior most District judge of Goa , her suspension could be
a very systematic ploy to sideline and abort her hopes of elevation as judge
of the Bombay High Court. If this is proven, the conspirators of this plan,
of framing fake charges against her should not be spared.

If the injustice meted out to Mrs. Anuja Prabhudesai is not rectified, the
credibility of the judiciary which is the third and vital pillar of our
constitution is at stake. We need to stand in solidarity with this very
distinguished judge while she braves this attack on her.

[Goanet] Marathi and Kokani typing workshop

2010-02-03 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
Thank you Tony for providing very useful information.
I have also used few Devnagari softwares.

Real problem with all the software are
1. They come with executable files and a program to be run to install them
2. They use more key's
3. They don't run on all computers.

The GANGAL1.ttf file is to saved in windows/font directory
It runs on all computer
Its given free by creator...'Shodh Marathi' alias Shubhanan Gangal
It uses 47 keys (plus shift) + 47 = 94 keys
This font is in UNICODE.

Infact we (Shodh Marathi) feel that
1. There are few characters which complicates understanding devnagari should
be deleted from script.
2. Marathi and Kokani are independent languages and Sanskrit grammar or
characters which hampers progress of these languages should be kept away.(Major
element Raswa and Dirgha)

For these very reason we call it as Marathi/Kokani font and not Devnagari font.

There are Many advantages
most important is INDEXING.

Its not only font but also pronunciation which we know. But there is somethink
more which only Shubhanan Gangal explains better.

Using these characteristics of gangal1 font...
We want to take computer to 'JANIV-JANAK' level.

Hi Venantius,
It is rather
astounding that the Official Language Department of the
Government of Goa is not promoting the use of Devnagri software for writing
Konkani in the officially accepted script Devnagri. The business of Devnagri
software has been interesting me for long because in school, my teachers
used to hand write the stencils for the examination paper. There were
concerns of legibility, waste of stationery etc. So I purchased Devnagri
software for my school. I am happy to say that with this, the question
papers were more clear and there was a minimum waste of stationery and fewer
requests from students for help in reading the question papers. The side
effect was that the language teachers (Hindi, Marathi and Konkani) all
learnt to computer type their papers. This induced others to learn to use
the computer and that in turn led to them using the computer for generating
mark sheets, attendance sheets and all kinds of work finally culminating in
Power Point presentations.

Though it sounds impressive to be able to
type Devnagri, most of the
software packages available have an
Anglicized keyboard. One merely types
phonetically. For instance,
with the 'Hindi Pad' software, (available for
around Rs. 355/-
couriered home to you) to type 'BHARAT' in Devnagri, one
has only to
type b, h, a, a, r, a, a, t, a. The extra a in each case is
because
the letters appear as half letters - this is a peculiarity of this
particular software. after a while one gets used to it. There is also other
software available. I suggested this particular one because it is
inexpensive. Linux has in built language support as also Microsoft Windows.
There are also many websites which give you online Devnagri transliteration
online. You can type in English much as I have shown you and you can cut and
paste the result in a word processor page provided you have that particular
font. Here is a website: http://www.google.com/transliterate/indic

2010-01-25 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
Around 25 years ago Kapil Dev raised some question?
He was prominent players of Harayana and India.

I seriously feel that there is serious problem with our Sports organization
setup.

Most of our Sports organization, at least in Goa are legally defunct. The same
case, may be in India.

For chess I am 100% sure.
And I am going against them,
When I will succeed I don't know.

Because these sports organisation are defunct they can not raise money, they
can not raise money. And the present setup helps them to retain the power.
With this power they can easily shut the voice raised against them.

CHESS IN MESS – Courtesy
AICF
Writer is
editor of Chess IndiaMagazine
darsha...@gmail.com

When the guardians of the games starts damaging it, what will be the future of
the game – is a matter to worry and not to sympathize alone.

We are talking about A.CI.F. – the Federation whose Delhi Unit (DCA) Secretary
Bharat Singh did not permit 400 players to
participate in the Parsvnath Chess Tournament– which is a
breach of Fundamental Right of the players, for which AICF & DCA
officials are not only responsible, but also punishable under the law of the
country.
Also they are financially liable to these players and there is no
justification for the Govt.grant also for this tournament, for
which entry fee was as high as Rs. 7800

The only fault of these players was that they participated in
the biggest ever prize money tournament of India with the lowest entry
fee of Rs. 1000 , organized by Chess Association of India, who have not
taken any permission from the AICF. Even otherwise, as per Constitution of
India, to
organize such prize money tournament is neither crime nor essential to
take the permission of AICF, to whom, CAI would have to spare Rs. 3
lakhs for getting the permission.

Bharat Singh used all his available tools to harass the organisers, sponsors,
coaches, parents, workers and reputed players of Delhinot to
participate to avoid ban and suspension. Still the inevitable
tournament happened with 400 participants and players received prizes
more than Rs. 15 lakhs.

Surprisingly, DCA is holding Parsvnath tournaments for the last 7 years, but
still
one has to see or know its President (or it is on the paper alone).
Bharat Singh is also the Treasurer of AICF. If we talk about other
officials of AICF, its President, Mr. Srinivasan is holding two posts in
contravention of National Sports Policy and Sports Ministry
Guidelines. Its General Secretary DV Sunder and Commonwealth
Secretary Dongre are on bail today.

To harass the players has become a routine matter for AICF, then, it may
be GM Gopal or World No. 2 Humpy Konery. If you talk of Rules with
AICF, surprisingly as on date, its Constitution and Rules are not
approved and pending with the Registrar of Societies, Chennai, and a
gazette notification was issued earlier for withdrawal from the Role of
SocietiesNo.
4993/EI/2005 dated 7.12.2005.

Even the CIC decision dated 20.3.2009 to bring AICF under the
RTI was not implemented by AIC upto the deadline of 20thApril, 2009
Surprizingly, the Sports Ministry, who is aware of all these facts, is
releasing Grants year-after-year, without checking out the eligibility
conditions of the applicant.

[Goanet] Think Think Think

2010-01-18 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
Think Think Think
Does hereditary knowledge, Sixth Sense, and other knowledge(if any) acquired
without the help of the Perception -Tool, help us for '4D' requirements of
Understanding? Can it be stored as memory? If any such think exists, does that
change with time and hence with our new Understanding?
This is from the Book Perception, Sound, Prose and Poetry. by Shubhanan Gangal
published in 2005

Shubhanan Gangal
19/20, Ideal Aprtment, Gulmohar Road, Juhu, Mumbai 400049

Shubhanan Gangal was in Goa for few days. his company has given some think new
that can not be explained in words.

I only know that future Noble Prize winner has accepted me as a friends.

We know very little about ourselves. The penetration ability
to know about ourselves ends at a boundary of how to get along with the LIFE
and not about the Life itself. What will happend if the Perception-Tool starts
detecting all activities inside our body? Is it the only(!) difference between
the idea of ‘God’ and ‘Human being’?

If we cross the detection limits of our Sense organs either
we get Pain or ‘no more detection takes place without pain’. Pain is actuated
to support our life. The detection method/system, which does not give us pain,
has no ability to damage life. Is it provided only to give more meaning to
‘BEING
HUMAN’ ? Which of the two gives us a
better approach towards extention of understanding? Which system provides more
meaning of ‘BEING HUMAN’ than ‘living life like any other animal’ ? Out of
prose, poetry, and music which one supports in a better Sense ‘BEING HUMAN’?

This event is organised by GOA PEOPLE's Forum and Goa Science Centre at
Goa Science Centre , Miramar on Saturday Jan 16th 2010 afternoon 3.00
to 6.00pm. Program open to all.

Sound in Physics and Nature
By

Mr. Shubhanan Gangal

We learn about Sound in Physics.
We also know that human languages are derived from Sound.
We never teach 'Sound' in physics and 'Sound' in languages together as a
part of one system.

Why Not? Can we make that happen?
Yes, Marathi Language Can!
What we are going to do today is to solve few questions, together with
discussion!

(1) What are the Atoms of a Sound?
(2) What are the Molecules of a sound'?
(3) How do we communicate within 'Feelings, Thoughts, Memory and
Experience'?

(4) What are the properties of Sound?
(5) How do we co-relate 'Light, Sound, Touch, Taste, & Smell'?
(6) Why do we feel 'Prose, Poetry and Music' are different?

Dear Antonio,

Thank you for that information. It should be important for those of
us(like me) who were not around the Mandovi, Sal or Tiracol during
those days.

So that one may reasonably evaluate the true value of your information
in comparative terms, would you now please advise us what educational
facilities were available in the regions just south and north of Goa
i.e. in the areas called Sadashivghad, Karwar, Sawantwadi, Kudal and
Ratnagiri and the level of literacy in those areas during the
same period of time?

BTW: How did you work out the rates of literacy, semi-literacy and
literacy among the peoples of Goa? Have you or anyone else published a
verifiable study somewhere? I'd like to (just for personal reasons)
test the study design, methods of evaluation and results of that
study.

Happy New Year

jc

Friends,

Last few years Govt. had announced some Donations/grants for educational
Institutions completing 75 years and 100 years.
One of the prominent name include Mustifund Saustha from Panaji.

Marathi was medium of instruction in Mustifund Saustha . In the year 1960
(after 50 years of its existence) 200+ students passed 4th grade from
Mustifund.

Those who opted for higher studies in Portuguese after 4th grade had to enroll
for 3rd grade.
Most of my relatives opted to leave Goa and went to Sangli and other parts of
Maharashtra for higher studies. It was a Madhukari pattern where in stdent beg
for food, or having food at different people people on particular day of the
week.
All those were considered illiterate before liberation.

[Goanet] Kidnap & Marry Underage Girls of Any Religion is OK for Muslims ... Rule our Courts

2009-12-30 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE

Youth gets bail in elopement case

TNN 17 December 2009,

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata-/Youth-gets-bail-in-elopement-caseKolkata/articleshow/5345745.cms

KOLKATA: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted the anticipatory bail plea of
a 26-year-old youth from Murshidabad who had been accused of kidnapping and
marrying a 15-year-old girl.

Sairul Sheikh, a resident of Bakultala in Behrampore, had been accused of
kidnapping and forcibly marrying Anita Roy.

A division bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh and Justice S P Talukdar
allowed Sheikh's plea after his lawyers Joymalya Bagchi and Rajib Lochan
Chakraborty submitted that the marriage was legal under Muslim Personal Law.
Holding the marriage legal, the court granted Sheikh's anticipatory bail
application.

Anita's mother Jyotsna had lodged a complaint with Behrampore PS that her
daughter had been missing since October 14. On October 15, she came to know
that Sairul Sheikh had "kidnapped and married" her minor daughter.
.

Kidnapping and marrying a girl below 18, is a crime, which is to be charged
under "Kidnapping and Rape" because marriage with an underage girl is supposed
to be not legal ... However a Muslim Youth has claimed he's done it under
Muslim Personal Law ... So the Judges have indirectly ruled "For Muslims
it is allowed, Muslims can KIDNAP & MARRY Girls under 18 (Muslim or Hindu)".

These are the kind of Rulings which arouse community's feeling of hatred,
towards each other.

Now had it been a Hindu Boy who had kidnapped an underage girl (Muslim or
Hindu) he would not have got Anticipatory Bail under any circumstances.

Visit http://www.RoguePolice.com

My comments
May be case was not registered as kidnapping. it is up to Investigating officer.

Anita might have changed her religion.

Can a minor change her religion?

So the case before the judge is not Hindu minor girl kidnapped by Muslim,
but Muslim (may be minor) marrying a Muslim.
Its a Judges privilege to look in to deep (or ignore) in the matter.

[Goanet] Talibanisation of Colva

2009-12-29 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE

The attack on the house and other property of a person from Colva accused of
producing a controversial CD is to be condemned. Such means resorted to by so
called followers of Jesus Christ, that too during Christmas, and supposedly
provoked by lay church leaders is all the more deplorable. Are we any beter
than the Bajrang Dal, Ram Sena, Taliban and all such fanatical fringe elements
that suppress freedom of expression through terror. The hurt sentiments are
understandable but will violence acheive any solution? In fact, the attack on
the producer generates more publicity, curiosity and sympathy among the people
which would only boost the sales of the CD. Instead of denying his involvement
in inciting the parishioners as reported in a section of the press, the Parish
Priest should have outrightly condmened such use of violence as it is against
christian teachings.
It is unfortunate that people of Goa have got enough time and energy to quarrel
on issues of religion but hardly anyone reacts over abuses against the human
person, especially woman and children, and the mass scale rape and plunder of
Goa's natural resources.
Will Goans invest their capacities and energies for more productive purposes
in the New Year 2010 in order to establish the kingdom of Justice and Peace in
the world which the message of Christmas is all about?

-Soter D'Souza

Hat's off to you Soter.

Please also note that

Police informed that there was some stone throwing and damage to Mr Gonsalves’
residence and a journalist was also roughed up.
The police have registered a case under Sections 153, 153A, 295A and 298 read
with Section 34 of of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Mr
Culvert Gonsalves. Also the police have registered a case against the mob under
Sections 147, 148, 427 read with 149 of the Indian Penal Code based on the
complaint filed by the panch’s mother.
Reports also say that the journalist assaulted by the mob has also filed a case
on Tuesday.
http://www.navhindtimes.in/news/goa-news/6796-cops-given-ultimatum-till-dec-31-to-act

This is also an opportunity for Ratra Seva Dal to protest against Church
sponsored Goodaism questioning " potraying a religious person in bad light" is
a crime?

{Earlier, on Monday, the villagers had gathered in large numbers at the Colva
police station and gheraoed the police demanding action on a complaint filed
against panch, Mr Culvert Gonsalves, Mr Ozzy Viegas and the entire production
team of audio CD ‘Dogui Bodmas’ for potraying a religious person in a bad

[Goanet] Goanetters Meet

Mon Dec 28 09:43:06 PST 2009

Dear Tony,
You know I am extremely fond of you but I want to make two things absolutely
clear.

1) As a fellow Goanetter, I'm not interested in what upsets Cecil Pinto as just
about anything can upset the man.

2) I will never attend anything either organised or headed by him.

As an active Goanetter, I strongly request that we keep Goanet as uncorrupted
as possible.

Mario observes:

1. Active Goanetter? With ONE measley post in December - THIS ONE?! What the
bleep is THAT?

2. Are you threatening to really attend this soiree next year or are you just
blowing smoke?

3. I have no idea what is bugging you two but this love-hate relationship has
to stop. You and Cecil need to air-kiss and make up. Collaborate on a funny
essay, why don't you? Or write a book together. Send some flowers through
Cecil to Tony whom you are so fond of.

4. As the lone voice of reason, truth and peace on Goanet, you need to convert
all this negative energy into some positive energy. Don't you know the
Himalayan icecaps are melting already? Don't make me bring my baseball bat and
sort this out:-))

5. Are there no peacemakers in Goa? Vivian? Tony? Ana Maria?

Mariobab,

You miss one more important factor which is playing its role silently.

"TIME" .

Another 12 months is long way considering last one month.

It was a good meet yesterday at FOODLAND.

the food and crow waiting around the area picks them up with in few seconds.

It was chapatti today and I said to mother that I will take over this grace for
birds for today. I carefully made small pieces of chapatti. I could see crows
around the building, on Mango, Neem and other trees.

I tossed the pieces around and waited. Not a single crow comes down to pick

chapatti pieces and whole bunch of crows were around my mother to pick the

CAUTION

A set of disgruntled elements have announced that they have formed a Chess
Association as rivals to the All India Chess Federation. In their mails the
Chess
Association of India has announced that, with the permission of World Chess
Federation Inc (a rival to FIDE) they will organize an open tournament at Delhi
from
23rd Dec with a Prize fund of Rs.15 Lakhs

All India Chess Federation cautions all chess players affiliated to us not to
participate in these tournaments or any other tournament to be organized by
Chess
Association of India in future as their events are not recognized by All India
Chess
Federation and as such not authorized by AICF. This is to further remind all
AICF
registered players that you have signed a declaration in the players
registration
form, which we quote for your ready reference

“I also declare that I will not participate in any unauthorized tournament /
championship”

By playing in the tournaments conducted by Chess Association of India, the
registered players of AICF will attract disciplinary action and hence are
cautioned
against playing in the tournaments to be organized by the rival body.
