[google-appengine] Google

2011-09-20 Thread Ryan Mattison
For being geniuses, your documentation and organizational skills are
less than desirable. You choose to take on multiple IDEs/environments
and release them untested. Try picking one, we all have Linux, Mac,
Windows. State the person that wrote this documentation is on XXYY
version xy, so it must work as he expected (we are testing other
environments, but we know this one works!). I've developed against a
load of sdks web, mobile, data, os, windows etc etc, mostly because I
like to have an extremely good time,can't pull my life together, need
money and lack the overall skills to be a engineer. One thing is
certain though, I would rather jab my eyes out then work through the
next Google project. I have to be employed in America, why do you
have to make it painful. Not everyone gets off on digging through
scripts, open source code, and logs to decipher why this pos decided
to lock x file and not rebuild it & write nothing to a log etc. Some
of us want to build something cool and go to the bar.

Lastly, why the verbosity? Clear & concise patterns & code never seem
to be the aim. Its not like the code needs to be clear it'll take a
pick ax to get through a relatively new Google environment anyway.
You may as well finish it off and let developers type less.

   Composite, C
   Calendar, Ca

Let me imagine I got the chemistry degree I should have.

Alright, better now .. back to jabbing my eyes out. Your responding/
discussion skills are way above bar though, so that is good !~

If you have a GMAIL account and you posted to this list since I joined, I
invited you. So if you attempt to log in it should work.

The when they let people in is weird. so try a few times, but I did my best.

Decided this was easier than the couple at a time people as they came in.

[google-appengine] Google Cache

2011-08-27 Thread pdknsk
I've noticed that some clients check feeds very frequently, so I'd
like to enable Google Cache to get less hits. Is there official
documentation for this? In particular I'm wondering how to ensure that
it doesn't serve old cached files when the file was updated. It's only
updated several times daily (at most) and only at every full hour, so
I'd be satisfied to just have it cached until the next full hour.

2011-09-20 Thread Jeff Schnitzer
Wow. I've found the GAE docs to be pretty nice. What some pain? Try
the docs for:

 * Amazon Elastic Beanstalk
 * Paypal
 * Google Checkout
 * Amazon Payments
 * require.js

...just to name a few that have given me grief lately. Paypal gets
the poo-colored star here. They are truly a testament to how hard it
is to unseat a market-leading incumbent, even when they suck.

Re: [google-appengine] Google

2011-09-20 Thread Robert Kluin
I find the App Engine docs pretty good too. Some things could
definitely use improving, like documenting all the rates, limits,
quotas, deadlines, etc..., in one spot so we can search / find info
(including low-level stuff), but they are otherwise ok.

I also find that if you stay *high* in the SDK files (ie the public
interface) it is not too bad -- and the doc strings are good. Just
don't dig in; it gets tangled up fast.

The gdata docs / api are a different story -- complete and total mess,
along with a disaster of an API to go with it! But, that's not
related to App Engine.

It's refreshing to read Tornado's code and docs after fighting
app engine. i guess those hackers helped (a lot?) with gmail
and gmap?

query times linear with sizeof(result_set) was really sexy,
but 2 QPS per instance? really? and i hit soft limit w/
python so often it's a joke---i can't do any serious processing
without hearing the google cash register ring away.

Simple python prevayler setup with tornado + nginx front end
pumps 7k inserts/second (one big gzip'd post).  bonus: it's
single-threaded (remember medusa?). since it uses prevayler,
it will be easy to replicate/coordinate tornado nodes (if i ever
need to).

disappointed too and rewriting as fast as i can,

While I'm a big fan of async systems like Node and Tornado, this is
really an apples/oranges comparison. The programming models are quite
different and each strengths and weaknesses. The domain of problems
appropriate to solve with Prevayler and the domain of problems
appropriate to solve with GAE's datastore have very little overlap.

If a Tornado/Prevaylor works for you, by all means use it. But
recognize that it's a niche.

[google-appengine] Google Gadgets

I'm needing to develop an app that will be accessed via a Google

to be something that can't be faked or hacked. I've looked at OAuth
and OpenID but haven't gotten a working solution.

Looking for ideas.

[google-appengine] [google-appengine]

2009-03-08 Thread Steve Robillard

I am working on a blog article on GAE and using it as a CDN per the yslow
suggestions. I have a few questions I would like to verify.

1) Is this data geographically dispersed and served from a location closest
to the user? I thought that it was, but saw a recent post stating that all
datastor operations were done from a single datacenter.
2) Assuming that #1 is true is their a way to seed these edge location
caches before the first request?
3) The new quotas will allow serving a file of 10mb's but only allow serving
1 Gb of data per day.

Thanks,
For your help.

[google-appengine] Google Bookmarks

2009-06-15 Thread Tibor Piri

Hi!

I would like to use OAuth or Auth to access Google Bookmarks but I
think I am stuck.
The sulution used in "gdata_feedfetcher" python example does not seems
applicable to GB - there are no Notebook feeds.
I managed to found a simple C# application (http://www.codeproject.com/
KB/IP/GoogleBookmarks.aspx) which uses login and cookies to connect
to, but I would like to avoid such user action.

I appreciate any suggestion and idea regarding this problem.

[google-appengine] Google Code favicon

2010-06-18 Thread Francisco Ceruti
I've been working (learning lately a lot with app engine and gwt, and
typically I have my browser with 10+ tabs open, ~8 of which are google
code pages (code.google.com) or google search pages(www.google.com).
The problem (not a really serious one thou), is that sometimes takes
me a while (1-5 seconds) to get to the tab I wanted. So it would be
nice if Google code could have it's own favicon, so developers could
get to the desired page faster.

Does somebody else think this would be nice? Am i the only one with
this problem?

Pd: sorry if this is not the correct channel to send this message, but
I couldn't find one more appropriated.
Pd2: Google IO's presentation this year on app engine are awesome.
Congrats to the team.

[google-appengine] Google AppEngine Indexing

2010-07-20 Thread GeekTantra
I am trying to create an application on appengine. The problem is when
I deploy it to production, even with empty datastore, it takes atleast
2 hours for the indexes to start serving.

The contents of the index.yaml are:
- kind: comments
  properties:
  - name: content_type_id
  - name: is_public
  - name: is_removed
  - name: object_pk
  - name: site_id
  - name: created

- kind: comments
  properties:
  - name: content_type_id
  - name: object_pk
  - name: user_email
  - name: user_name
  - name: user_url
  - name: created

- kind: content_type
  properties:
  - name: app_label
  - name: name

- kind: pages
  properties:
  - name: post_status
  - name: created

- kind: pages
  properties:
  - name: post_status
  - name: post_title

- kind: posts
  properties:
  - name: post_status
  - name: created

- kind: posts
  properties:
  - name: post_status
  - name: created
direction: desc

No since I want to make this application an opensource product its
important that people can deploy it instantly and see the results but
without the indexes being served instantly I start getting 500
errors(NoIndexErrors) instantly when I deploy. Is there a work around.
Initially the datastore would be completely empty, so I presume the
Indexing shouldn't take so much time.

[google-appengine] Google App engine

2011-07-08 Thread Mayank
Hi All,

We are working on Google app engine to develop a web app which
interacts with Google docs and other Google API.
We are facing problem in uploading a file to google doc, there are no
sample code available at code.google.com for Gogole App engine (Java
implementation)
It would be great if someone could share a sample code in java for the
same demo application in the Google IO video in python
http://www.google.com/events/io/2011/sessions/using-the-google-docs-apis-to-store-all-your-information-in-the-cloud.html.
Share a code java for uploading a file to google doc
What is the advantage of using blob store in uploading files, is there
any other way of uploading files ?

Also, we need some help in designing systems in google datastore using
JPA.
example: one entrepreneur -> multiple compaiess..or one companies may
be owned by multiple entreprenerus..we need a db design for this in
app engine

Please help us solving this issue or connect us to someone who is
working on google app engine.

Regards,
Mayank

[google-appengine] Google+ disabling accounts

2011-07-23 Thread Michael Quartly
I have an App Engine app tied to my personal google account and Googles
approach to disabling accounts without warning for TOS violations and the
trouble people have gone through to unsuccessfully contact Google about
getting their accounts undisabled has got me quite worried about keeping my
app on App Engine moving forward. If my main google account which is the
billing administrator for the account, gets deleted, how will this affect my
App Engine account? At the very least I imagine this means that I would be
unable to make any billing changes to the App.

It goes without saying that I believe Googles apparent trigger happy
approach to disabling google accounts has got me quite worried. Especially
given how hard it can be to reach Google in a timely fashion.

I would be grateful if somebody from Google could address my concerns.

ghs.google.com) not when using a appspot.com url.

(also be careful, as the Vary header is ignored - even though its
meant to be used to control caching.)

[google-appengine] Google App Engine

2011-09-21 Thread Jenner
To Whom It May Concern,

I do not have the text feature on My cell phone is possible to get the
code or link via email instead?

The Second problem is this after watching Brett's video on the YouTube
learning channel, which editor is he talking about, because he did not
specify that?

Does Google send it's owm editor via email link, or

Do We use the editor in the Word Press of My website, or

Do we use it somewhereelse like on the C drive if its accessible

So can you clarify these for Me, I did not fully understood that.

Thanks,

Syed.

[google-appengine] Google Cloud SQL

2011-10-14 Thread Bruce Aloe
Hello,

I am a user of GAE data store and use GQL to query my models. I just
saw the article about Google Cloud SQL published on October 6, 2011.

Since GQL has so many limitations, therefore Google Cloud SQL sounds
quite interesting for me.

Where can i use it and how to use it?

Any tutorial?

Thanks for any help!

We have a google gadget running on our site, see the bottom right of
this page:

The xml it's running is on our server, we recently made some changes
to it, but it doesn't appear. I was just wondering how long does the
google gadget cache take to expire or if there is something else we
need to do on our side?

Re: [google-appengine] Google datastore

2013-05-20 Thread Jeffery Fernandez
You can do this pretty easily once you setup Google cloud SQL command line
tool https://developers.google.com/cloud-sql/docs/commandline

Before that setup you may also need to setup gsutil
https://developers.google.com/storage/docs/gsutil and configure your
authentication using "gsutil config"

So to achieve what you want, setup gsutil and google_sql command line tool.
when you launch google_sql command line tool you can basically talk to your
Google Cloud SQL instance and execute sql commands.

Re: [google-appengine] google gql

2015-12-21 Thread 'Alex Martelli' via Google App Engine
In GQL just as in most every other SQL-like language, it's a serious
mistake to use string formatting (as you're doing) instead of query
parameters. Not only can you get the query syntax wrong, you're opening
yourself to the security problems known as "SQL injection" -- see
https://xkcd.com/327/ .

Just use query parameters as normal (and, it's truly peculiar to use
semicolons in Python):

querystring = 'select * from Post where Post.content = :1 order by created
desc'
posts = db.GqlQuery(querystring, 'testing')

I would suggest looking up the DrEdit example within the Google Drive
developer's examples:

You can download the entire example app here:

I try example DrEdit and I don't understand... I Have already a session

with this url userService :

userService.createLoginURL(.)

and in example DrEdit, I must have Credential with this url for Drive :

/**

 *
 * @return A consent page url string for user redirection.
 */
public String getAuthorizationUrl() {
GoogleAuthorizationCodeRequestUrl urlBuilder = new
GoogleAuthorizationCodeRequestUrl(clientSecrets.getWeb().getClientId(),
clientSecrets.getWeb().getRedirectUris().get(0),
SCOPES).setAccessType("offline").setApprovalPrompt("force");
return urlBuilder.build();

So I have two urls connection, real or I don't understand?
Can we get a credential with AppEngine service?

Thank you for your answers!

The Users service of App Engine allows you to uniquely identify an user
with a Google account. It doesn't give you access to that account's
documents, larger profile data, etc. If you want to access a user's Google
Drive , you need to authenticate in the same manner that DrEdit does.

Focus on understanding how the DrEdit example runs through the
authentication cycle (specifically, the process after the code example you
linked). When you understand it, you can write your own customized Google
Drive application

Hi,

I use now CredentialManager for upload file to Drive... and it works
But when I want to access EMF.get().createEntityManager() -> Could not
initialize class

therefore if I want to use in same program EntityManager (DAO) + upload to
Drive,
I must have 2 urls login :
- userService.createLoginURL(.)   ---> for
EMF.get().createEntityManager()
- GoogleAuthorizationCodeRequestUrl ---> for upload Drive

Ok or not ???

I can't do it one way ?

Re: [google-appengine] Google Drive

There are two different login URLs because you're asking the user to grant
privileges to two separate services: the Users API and the Drive client
library. They don't share authorizations. If you drop the Users login URL,
you have to manage user sessions by yourself or by using a framework. If
you drop the Drive auth URL, then you're missing out on the auth token to
access the user's Drive contents.

One of the reasons that I recommended the DrEdit sample application is that
it demonstrates how to manage a user's login status and access Drive. If
you look at the source code for the application,

you'll see functions such as loginIfRequired, getCredential, and so forth
showing how to handle the auth process depending on the user's current
logged-in status. Those are the functions you want to focus on, and
potentially use those instead of managing user sessions through the Users
API.

My recommendation is that you seem to be getting hung up on the Users API:
while the Users API is a fantastic service, there are other ways to handle
user sessions and you should investigate how DrEdit manages user sessions
even without access to the Users API. Once you understand how DrEdit
manages user sessions, you can drop one of the two login URL requirements
that you currently have.

Can you post the entire exception, including the message and the stack
trace? Most likely you're either missing a file or there are conflicting
versions available to the app.

There's no need to redirect to a logout URL. When you want to log the user
out you can invalidate the access token Google gave your application.

Assuming you have a GoogleCredential object,
call credential.getAccessToken() and then make a request to
https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/revoke?token=access_token_here . The
credentials you have will stop working and you can return the user to a
logged-out screen.

For the create account link, there should be one. I tried using the oauth
flow myself and there was a create account link at the bottom of the page:
http://imgur.com/cHSEeq7 (note how the address box has the oauth redirect
address). Can you take a screenshot of what you're seeing?

For "Generates a consent page url" :

- Users API / link start with
: https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=*ah*
   there is a link to create accounts google

- Drive Client API / link start with
: https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=*lso*
   no link to create accounts google and page is smaller

If I replace (in url navigator) Iso by ah the link to create accounts
google appears...

I use this method for get url (DrEdit) :

public String getAuthorizationUrl() {
GoogleAuthorizationCodeRequestUrl urlBuilder = new
GoogleAuthorizationCodeRequestUrl(clientSecrets.getWeb().getClientId(),
clientSecrets.getWeb().getRedirectUris().get(0),
SCOPES).setAccessType("online").setApprovalPrompt("auto");

return urlBuilder.build();
}

There is a setting somewhere?

The option to create an account should appear regardless of the service you
request. Here's a screenshot album: http://imgur.com/a/TX6vN . I requested
service = ah, lso and mail and they all presented the "Create an account"
option.

If you don't see that option in the Google login screen, you may be using
an IP that is currently rate limited by Google or otherwise sending a large
amount of traffic to Google servers. In any event, you cannot modify the
consent screen - if Google decides not to present that option, you cannot
add it back. If you want users to have the option of creating a Google
account you need to ask them before you redirect to the Google login
screen. However I wouldn't worry too much about the issue: most people
already have a Google account or know where to get one.

Well, this is a problem with no clear, correct answer. Really, the only
choices are to ask current users to either (1) create new accounts under
their Google+ IDs or (2) ask users to log in under the Users API, then log
in with Google+, and associate the IDs from both login systems together in
your database.

If you're asking whether there's a reliable way to translate Users API ids
to Google+ ids, I don't believe that's possible. You might want to
crosspost to the Google+ developer advocates and see what they think.

[google-appengine] Google Cloud SQL

I just have a general query/problem.

I have a Google App Engine PHP/MySQL website. The website works fine and
the database works correctly. I have connected the database instance to the
application and I can access MySQL Client (and can perform queries).

But when I access the Google Cloud SQL API the database fails to load. For
example I select the correct application/database instance. I go on 'Google
Cloud SQL' API and then 'SQL Prompts' but get: Failed to load databases.

Any reasons as to why this is happening?

instances list locally and then gcloud copy-files to the shell, but it's
not listed. Preferably there should be a simple gcloud sync-shell command
or the like.

[google-appengine] Google Groups limits

2015-10-22 Thread Serve cocc
Hello App Engine gurus,
First of all- i am sorry for barging on this tech forum... i am not a cloud
guru- just a Google Group for Work (Non-Profit) Super Admin tapping for a
solutions that i have not found on the lay sites.
I am managing an organization made up of about 100 users/members; spread
across about 25 Groups.
The org is Non-profit with non-paid volunteers so i was looking for a no
cost solution if possible.

1. i am using nested groups which has limitations. example; user1 is
in group A. Group A is nested in Group B. The fact that user1 is not a
direct member of Group B is causing several issues mainly with permissions
and Group B not showing in the user's 'My Group' area. there are other
issues but these are the main ones. i really want to avoid adding
user1 directly in Group B , would rather use nested groups to minimize
errors because the users are dynamic and will be moved around periodically.
2. i am looking for a Google Group app for my users to easily access and
use on their mobile devices(phones).

would appreciate a robust solution that i can incorporate to facilitate
this need.
Thanks much

[google-appengine] Google Code Down?

2009-12-26 Thread Mr. Rajiv Bakulesh Shah
Hi, guys.

This isn't related to Google App Engine, but I don't know where to report this
problem. At the moment, I can't resolve various Google Code domains (for
example, https://imi-imi.googlecode.com/), so I can't check in to my project.
I have no problem resolving every other domain, so I know this isn't a DNS
problem on my end.  :-(

Just a heads up. If anyone knows of a more appropriate forum for this problem,
please let me know.

Thanks,
Raj
