Extending GWT - Eclipse Plugin
Hi, Firstly, kudoos to the GWT team for the great effort! Secondly, I am currently working on extending GWT to create a custom library that's reusable. To be specific, I'm looking at porting Dojo on GWT (http://sf.net/ projects/dwt). The project was off-the-track for quite a long time and with breaking changes in GWT 1.6+ and more fun with 2.0, I'm more happy than sad for not working on it for such a long time :) Anyway, coming to my point - how do I compile the extended GWT library without any entry-point. The "GWT Compile Project" compiles only the modules with entry point : ( -Gaurav --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Web Toolkit" group. alex.d schrieb: > The best one, imho, is GWT Designer. Has everything you need. Worth to > take a look: > http://www.instantiations.com/windowbuilder/gwtdesigner/index.html I agree with you, but just a little information to avoid people wondering that try out the current version. The current version of the GWT-Designer has a problem when adding GUI-elements. The add-statement adding the widget to the parent- element is always placed "at the end" of the settings. Here is an example to clearify things: Label l = new Label(); l.setWidth("100%"); channelContentPanel.setCellHeight(l, "100%"); channelContentPanel.setCellWidth(l, "100%"); channelContentPanel.add(l); Within the preview of the designer everything works but as soon as you enter the world of the browser (hosted and web mode), you (of course) receive a JavaScriptException because "l" is not known to the panel at the moment, e.g. when the cell-height is set. So at the moment you have to manually edit the source for every GUI-element being added. I reported this to the support of Instantiations but haven't received no response to that specififc issue, yet. Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin????
This has already been fixed in the latest build. See the e-mail that our support group sent to you earlier. This problem actually only appeared in a few builds and was the result of trying to work around a problem with GWT-Ext. We backed out the work around and restored the original (correct) code gen behavior and found a different solution to the GWT-Ext issue. Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin????
My understanding is that it will contain tools to ease development of GWT apps in Eclipse (project wizards, code assist, compilation assitance, maybe deployment aids). They don't plan to include any GUI development pieces so it will be complementary to GWT Designer. We might even layer GWT Designer on top of it, if it offers any capabilities beyond what we have now. On Sep 16, 12:15 pm, irc1258 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > H. GWT Eclipse plugin Ant integration
I am starting off a new project on GWT 1.7 and trying to utilize the GWT Eclipse plugin. So far it seems to work well, but one thing I really need is being able to script some of the plugin's features so I can integrate it with my build scripts. I have not been able to find f.ex. Ant tasks that can run these. At the very least I need to be able to run the GWT compile action from my scripts, so I can have a one click 'compile -> package -> deploy' process. In addition to that I would like to be able to start up the application in hosted mode from my (Ant) build scripts. GWT Eclipse Plugin 4 Problem
Hey. My coworker and I ran into trouble installing the GWT plugin on Eclipse 2023-12 (worked fine on 2023-09, so this isn't urgent, I'm just letting you know). A couple of weeks ago I got a new Mac, installed Eclipse 2023-09 and the GWT plugin, no problem. My coworker just got a new PC (Windows 11), and got Eclipse 2023-12 (just released), tried to install the GWT plugin as I did, and could not. It first required JustJ Adoptium OpenJDK 21. JustJ Adoptium OpenJDK Hotspot JRE Complete 21.0.1.v20231028-0937 org.eclipse.justj.openjdk.hotspot.jre.full.feature.group Eclipse JustJ After doing so, getting the GWT plugin still failed. First it says "Cannot complete operation. Computing alternate solutions, may take a while: X/15" Then it tells you it failed, giving you a chance to select other features (but there is only one). I confirmed that this also happens with 2023-12 on my Mac. My co-worker dropped back to 2023-09 on his PC, and it installed fine. Just an FYI. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "GWT Users" group. Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin Installation Problem
First, did you remember to reboot after installation? If so, try looking at the installed plugins: Help > About Eclipse Platform, then click Plugin-in Details and see if you have any plugins whose provider is "Google, Inc." If you do not, then some aspect of the installation failed. Let me know whether Eclipse lists any Google-provided plugins, and if you could send your Eclipse error log (/.metadata/.log) that would also be helpful. NullPointerException at GWTShellServlet.doGetPublicFile (Gwt Eclipse plugin)
Hi, I run Gwt application from Eclipse using Gwt Eclipse plugin. In console apears exception log like one below. I'm not sure what should I change in my project configuration to get rid of this problem. My project's output directory is /war/classes. there is a file /war/com.test.TestOffer/ C43A8DC1E50D698B543BF589D0244ECC.cache.png and files .gwt-tmp/ com.test.TestOffer/shell//gen/ C43A8DC1E50D698B543BF589D0244ECC.cache.png. I've looked into Gwt code looking for cause. It seems that servletContext attribute named "com.google.gwt.dev.shell.workdirs" wasn't set, but GWTShellServlet tries to use it. After looking for places where this attribute may be set, I think that it's properly set only in case of EmbeddedTomcatServer (line 414 in revision 6889). But stacktrace says I use Jetty as a servlet container. At this point I don't know what to do to solve this problem. Could somebody give me advice what am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance! Marek. this bug is steadily driving me mental - anyone knows how to workaround (without having to click on something each time one saves a file) ??? i want to see the real console, not the datanucleus one. could google issue a fixed .jar file that we could replace in eclipse/ plugins? the fix for this must be trivial, yet the suffering this bug causes is inappropriate. thanks On Jul 2, 4:12 pm, george9 wrote: > Thanks Isaac, I will first check the issue tracker next time. > > On Jul 2, 4:25 am, Isaac Truett wrote: > > > It's already in the issue tracker, marked FixedNotReleased: > > >http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/issues/detail?id=3645 > > > Sources close to the plugin say a new release is expected in a matter of > > weeks. > > > On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 2:28 PM, george9 wrote: > > > > When working in maximized mode (press Ctrl+M in an editor), then after > > > saving a file, the "DataNucleus Enhancement" Console pops up each time > > > a file is saved. > > > This is pretty annoying, and should be easy to fix. Are you using ORM in your project? If you are not, you can disable the Datanucleus builder. Re: GWT eclipse plugin fix req
Hi Rajeev, I'm using ORM, but been trying to workaround this by disabling the builder in the main build, and then looking for a way to run it manually. However during the process I've found another solution - it's in comments in: http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/issues/detail?id=3645 On Jul 13, 4:04 pm, Rajeev Dayal wrote: > Are you using ORM in your project? Re: GWT Eclipse plugin Ant integration
Hi, Unfortunately, the plugin does not have a way to generate ant scripts to mimic its actions, though this is on our feature list. What I would recommend is to use GWT"s webAppCreator to generate a sample project. A build.xml file will be generated as well, and it will have targets for GWT compilation and hosted mode execution. You can adapt this script for your specific project. Give that a try, and post back here if you run into any problems. I am glad they now use the task to run the compiler and not simply imitate a shell script. I assume these were generated by webAppCreator. However, I do suggest that the options webAppCreator provides to and be parameterized: I doubt people will need to compile production systems for debugging, so let them simply change the build.properties file. Using terracotta with gwt eclipse plugin
Hello, I'm trying to embed terracotta 3.1.1 in my application to share objects between my different application modules. When I run the gwt application, using eclipse plugin, my application loads very slowly (8-10 minutes). If I don't use terracotta(I use gms to share cached objects) It runs quicker(1 minute to load application). In order to run my application using eclipse I use the following vm arguments: -Xbootclasspath/p:"c:\myWorkspace\openblox\dso-boot- hotspot_win32_160_10-beta.jar" -Dtc.install-root="c:\Program Files \terracotta\terracotta-3.1.1\bin\.." - Dcom.tc.loader.system.name=Standard.system -Dtc.config=c:\myWorkspace \openblox\tc-config.xml -Djava.awt.Window.locationByPlatform=true When I deploy my application to tomcat and I'm using terracotta, It loads very quickly as well, so it leads me to think there's a problem in gwt eclipse plugin. Has anyone tried to use gwt with terracotta and eclipse? Any help or hint would be appreciated. Installing GWT Eclipse plugin, version 1.1.0
Hello there: our current project uses GWT 1.7.1 and, for a variety of reasons, we don't want to upgrade to 2.0.0 yet. I'd like to setup our current development environment on a new machine; I'm at the point where I need to install the GWT eclipse plugin, but when I go to the update site (http://dl.google.com/eclipse/ plugin/3.5) the GWT SDK has been magically upgraded from 1.7.1 to 2.0.0. How can I install the previous GWT plugin for Eclipse (I believe version 1.1.0) that uses the 1.7.1 GWT SDK? Are previous versions of the GWT plugin being archived anywhere? Ideally I don't want to have to download a separate GWT bundle distribution on the side and then have to tweak Eclipse to point to it (given that I was able to seamlessly install it in the past via the site update). If it's helpful in anyway, I'm using Galileo 3.5.1. Thanks in advanced for any help. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Web Toolkit" group. Older version of GWT Eclipse plugin

GWT Eclipse Plugin and Unit Tests
Hi, I'm following the MVP pattern and I'm writing many unit tests for the presenters. In order to also test the methods that are protected or have only package visibility I'm placing the unit tests in the same package as the presenters, however they are located in a different folder. I.e. I have the following folders: src/main/java/com/playground/client src/test/java/com/playground/client I'm using EasyMock 2.5 for my tests and Eclipse complains about the usage of the Capture class: "org.easymock.Capture can not be found in source packages. Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly." Even if I explicitly remove the test classes from my GWT module ( ) Eclipse does not care about it. GWT compile works fine and I can start the application in the development mode, however, I do not get rid of the red error markers in Eclipse. Is there any possibility to tell the GWT Eclipse plugin (GWT version 2.1.1) that it shall ignore the src/test/java path? GWT Eclipse Plugin - three development modes
Hello, I am using GWT Eclipse plugin with Eclipse Neon. I can run my app by choosing "Run As" - "GWT Development Mode with Jetty". Then, the application may be accessed at http://127.0.0.1:/index.html. (I always used only this.) Concerning to the documentation <http://gwt-plugins.github.io/documentation/gwt-eclipse-plugin/GettingStarted.html>, this is only the second of three development modes. The first one is choosing "GWT Development Mode". If I do this, the code server starts at http://127.0.0.1:9876. Navigating there with the browser shows the GWT code server, as well as a list of modules, which contains the one module of my app. I cannot go away from here. Clicking on the module shows the message "This module hasn't been compiled yet.". Dragging and opening the commandlet "Devmode on" shows "Can't find any GWT Modules on this page.". While the documentation is very verbose for "GWT Development Mode with Jetty", it doesn't show in detail how to use "GWT Development Mode". What am I missing? Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin 4 Problem
There is a pending patch for this at https://github.com/gwt-plugins/gwt-eclipse-plugin/pull/475. You should be able to pull and build this to get working again on the very latest Eclipse versions - and if you do, leave a comment, a code review, etc, and we can get this merged more expediently. GWT is largely a volunteer project, the GWT Plugin for Eclipse doubly so - and while the GWT contributor pool is small, the GPE pool is more of a puddle. We're trying to raise interest in this among users and contributors, but we can't drag people to work on code or force them to pay for work to get done. The GPE tooling has never formally been part of the GWT project (first owned entirely by the App Engine team at Google if I'm not mistaken, then ran as its own github org for many years), but we're trying to bring these pieces in line as we grow. Additionally, Eclipse marketshare isn't what it once was - I can't remember the last time I saw a project that ran better on Eclipse than IntelliJ. This is not intended as a slight towards anyone who is more productive with Eclipse, only as a remark that with fewer interest, it is hard to keep the project going. Finally, the workaround is straightforward - 2023-09 was the latest as of 60 days ago, falling back to it will likely not destroy any development workflows. Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin 4 Problem
To use the free IntelliJ Community Edition, you have to switch to use Maven first. https://www.gwtproject.org/gettingstarted-v2.html Note that you will lose some functionality, like being about to easily create UI Binder widgets (you'll have to create them manually). Also, I've never found a replacement for SDBG in IntelliJ Community Edition, so I've been using Chromes debugger. Maybe one exists somewhere, would be nice if it did. The paid IntelliJ Ultimate has its own GWT plugin, but I haven't used it, so not sure what it give you. Re: Using terracotta with gwt eclipse plugin
Hey Edo, GWT's development mode web server uses Jetty, so it is also possible that the problem may have something to do with Jetty itself, or GWT's configuration of Jetty. To test if the plugin itself is the cause, can you create a pure Java launch configuration for your project, and launch it that way? If you see the same results, can you then try and launch from the command line (outside of Eclipse)? That will help us isolate what is going on. Also, during the 8-10 minute loading time, do you have any idea what the application is doing during this time? Is it hung somewhere, or is it processing some information very slowly? GWT eclipse plugin and moving war folder
Hi all, I'm using maven2 to build a multi-module GWT project. I have an extra module which contains the client code. So I moved the war folder into this module. compiling via mAven2 works fine, the only problem seems to be the hosted mode. It seems like the hosted mode needs to find the war folder in the "root folder" or the project. I See no Option to Tell the Plugin to Look at à different Location. I worked adound this with greating a symbolic Link but thats more a hack. So, is there an Option to specify à different Location ? I know the Eclipse update system is capable of holding past versions (and hiding them by default) although it doesn't seem like that's what's being done in this case. There may be good reasons for that that i'm not aware of (e.g. the cross-compatibility of different versions of the GWT SDK and the Google Plugin that could make the user experience more painful if you chose to go that route), but ideally I'd like to be able to get the plugin (new or old) with at least the latest 1.X and 2.X SDKs for quite a while yet -- not everyone's going to want to upgrade right away. Re: Installing GWT Eclipse plugin, version 1.1.0
You can use the Google Plugin for Eclipse 1.2 with GWT 1.7 - they are compatible. So, you can install the latest plugin from the update side BUT exclude the installation of the SDK. Even if you did install the SDK, it does not automatically change your project over to use the new one, so you would not be in a "forced upgrade" situation anyway. As an FYI, whenever we release a new version of the plugin, we maintain backwards compatibility with previous versions of the GWT and App Engine SDKs. So, GPE 1.2 works with App Engine 1.2.0 - 1.2.8 and GWT 1.4 - 2.0. If we ever decide to drop support for a particular SDK, we'll clearly call that out in the release notes. Re: Installing GWT Eclipse plugin, version 1.1.0
We did not opt for this approach for simplicity's sake. Since we were planning on maintaining backwards compatibility with previous SDK versions, there was no good reason to provide older versions of the plugin for installation. If it is ever the case that we release a version of the plugin that breaks compatibility with an existing SDK, we'll probably make both versions available for download. Up till now, we have not made such a change. Re: Installing GWT Eclipse plugin, version 1.1.0
Rajeev, thanks for your reply. > You can use the Google Plugin for Eclipse 1.2 with GWT 1.7 - they are > compatible. If this is the case, I don't care at all about which GPE version is exposed via the update site, so long as it works with GWT 1.7.1. So GPE 1.2 will work for me. > So, you can install the latest plugin from the update side BUT > exclude the installation of the SDK. This is my problem. I want to be able to install the GWT 1.7.1 SDK via the update site on a brand new Eclipse installation, which doesn't have any GWT SDKs. Currently there is no mechanism for selecting the GWT SDK to be installed: the update site currently forces you to pick GWT 2.0.0. Downloading the whole GWT distro just to tell Eclipse to use that particular SDK sounds pretty silly, specially when I was able to do it seamlessly via the update site two months ago. If I understand correctly, there is no real reason for disabling the GWT 1.7.x SDK in the update site (as it could be used with the latest GPE, so this combination wouldn't produce an invalid environment). Could please confirm if this is correct? Thanks again. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Web Toolkit" group. I would stick with the non-classic install mechanism. Have you set up your proxy settings in Preferences -> General -> Network Connection? Re: Older version of GWT Eclipse plugin
This is what I would do.. Install sdks in a separate directory say /gwt-sdks/2.0 , 2.1, 1.7 etc In Eclipse under Preferences, just choose which one you want to be active/default. Re: Older version of GWT Eclipse plugin
For those who are looking for it, you can download old version of gwt at: http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/versions.html I just unpacked it in the directory my_eclipse_dir/plugin/, then go to eclipse, edit and changed my "gwt sdk" path under project properties and make it pointing to the new directory created when I unpacked. This works fine for me. GWT Eclipse Plugin and Update Maven Project
Hi, I observe one problem of GWT Eclipse Plugin(3.0.0.201610212207) when using it with maven project. Debugging works very well. But: - my project contains WAR directory, and GWT project setting "This project has WAR directory" (src/main/webapp) is checked. - GWT debug configuration arguments contain -war ./src/main/webapp. - when I check GWT project setting "Launch and deploy from this directory (disabled because this is a Maven project)" - everything works perfectly. Problem occurs when I Update Maven Project (Alt+F5). Then GWT project setting "Launch and deploy from this directory (disabled because this is a Maven project)" is unchecked and more unpleasant - when launching debugger something cleans this directory - removes web.xml, static resources etc. What is proper way to mitigate this? Re: GWT Eclipse Plugin - three development modes
Option 1 means that you are responsible to provide a server that serves at least the static files GWT Development Mode produces (all files stored at the location of the -war / -launcherDir parameter). If you also have server side code your server would also need to serve that code as well. It's basically the "serve your files yourself" mode. Option 2 does what Option 1 does not: It provides an embedded jetty to serve static files as well as servlets. -- J. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "GWT Users" group. I guess Eclipse can also do it using the Eclipse WTP tools. What are the benefits of option 1? > Some apps don't need application servers because they don't have a server side component. If you need an application server it is often preferable to use the same tools/setup in development as you use in production. For example if you use Oracle WebLogic or Glassfish server in production you might want to use it in development as well to spot any strange behaviors quickly during development so you won't be surprised once you have deployed the app to production. Or your jetty / tomcat configuration is more complex then what you can achieve using the embedded jetty of GWT. Or your server isn't a java server but instead PHP / Ruby / Go / whatever. Or maybe you use a web server as reverse proxy so you can deploy your app on any (already existing) remote server and let the reverse proxy delegate requests to that server. Or maybe you use Docker in production and you can easily start a mini version of your production cluster on your own host using Docker. Using Docker also has the benefit that every developer has the exact same development setup. -- J. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "GWT Users" group. …or your client and server code live in different projects (for classpath isolation), which makes it impractical to use DevMode's embedded server. AFAIK, GWT Eclipse Plugin has a way to start both a server (using Eclipse tooling) and GWT SuperDevMode with a single click. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell the plugin to use a different location for the war directory. We have a feature request open for this functionality. Install GWT Eclipse Plugin from behind a firewall?

In logs I find this: [WARN] /com.test.Test/C43A8DC1E50D698B543BF589D0244ECC.cache.png java.lang.NullPointerException at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.GWTShellServlet.doGetPublicFile(GWTShellServlet.java: 438) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.GWTShellServlet.processFileRequest(GWTShellServlet.java: 184) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.GWTShellServlet.doGet(GWTShellServlet.java: 132) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:707) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.GWTShellServlet.service(GWTShellServlet.java: 292) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:820) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.ServletHolder.handle(ServletHolder.java: 487) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.ServletHandler.handle(ServletHandler.java: 362) at org.mortbay.jetty.security.SecurityHandler.handle(SecurityHandler.java: 216) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.SessionHandler.handle(SessionHandler.java: 181) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.ContextHandler.handle(ContextHandler.java: 729) at org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.handle(WebAppContext.java: 405) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.HandlerWrapper.handle(HandlerWrapper.java: 152) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.RequestLogHandler.handle(RequestLogHandler.java: 49) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.HandlerWrapper.handle(HandlerWrapper.java: 152) at org.mortbay.jetty.Server.handle(Server.java:324) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection.handleRequest(HttpConnection.java: 505) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection $RequestHandler.headerComplete(HttpConnection.java:829) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpParser.parseNext(HttpParser.java:513) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpParser.parseAvailable(HttpParser.java:211) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection.handle(HttpConnection.java:380) at org.mortbay.io.nio.SelectChannelEndPoint.run(SelectChannelEndPoint.java: 395) at org.mortbay.thread.QueuedThreadPool $PoolThread.run(QueuedThreadPool.java:488) As a result application starts but no images are shown. I've looked into GWT code and found that GWTShellServlet.doGetPublicFile invokes getShellWorkDirs() that in my case wrongly returns null. getShellWorkDirs() looks for workdirs - servletContext.getAttribute("com.google.gwt.dev.shell.workdirs"), but attribute is not set. I've searched where "com.google.gwt.dev.shell.workdirs" is used and found it only in EmbeddedTomcatServer. I didn't found how is it set for Jetty. My launch configuration looks like this: There was a similar thread some time ago, but nobody responded: http://groups.google.com/group/google-web-toolkit/browse_thread/thread/739820505bfd8cdc/0fdde9b31e2e4b67 I was working with version 1.2.0 of plugin and everything was fine. Maybe I've missed something, but I cannot run DevMode in a proper way. Could you give me any advice what am I doing wrong? GWT eclipse plugin doesn't recognize bundle resources on classpath
Hey All, I just reinstalled the gwt eclipse plugin so I could start experimenting with the uibinder and what we like to do is separate out our static resources from our java files. In the standard maven way we put these resources in our src/main/resource folder which works great, is on our classpath, and has no problems during the compile. When I install the gwt eclipse plugin I always have issues with it giving me error messages because it can't find the static resources. Is there any way that the plugin can be enhanced to support the project's classpath, not just the current package? EX: This gives me the error message "Resource file tabbed-neutral.css is missing (expected at com/intuit/uilibrary/public/css/disclosure)" in eclipse but works fine every where else. @NotStrict @Source("com/intuit/uilibrary/public/css/disclosure/tabbed- neutral.css") public TabbedDisclosureCss css(); Thanks, Brett -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Web Toolkit" group.
