Yes, it can be done after the fact. You can close the disc with a DVD burning program (Nero) and a DVDR drive, or your set-top box probably has some option to do it. What I got out of this long ass thread was the biodiesel and the TDI. Wife needs a better ride. I just recently discovered that Delaware will cover 50% of the cost of a solar roof which they make "solar shingles" and a new roof would be nice. Did I mention that my power co is going to raise rates 60% this summer? Oh, the standard of living in the USA is driving the world up. China is coming alive thanks to the US. We ignited Japan, Germany after the war and it has been going since. We empower people and countries. If I buy 3 MP3 players and 2 cars, many TVs, white toilet paper, etc I am pumping $$ in to many jobs across the globe. Nothing to feel bad about that.

Maybe not on a global scale, but lets take Mexico City for example - the air in that area bears the uncanny resemblance to a cancer-stricken large intestine. Does Mother Nature just have a beef with Mexico and farts on her capital constantly? Or could it just possibly be, and this is a HUGE STRETCH, that the rampant pollution from industry is taking its toll on the city?

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear. You should drive what you want, but the true cost of driving it should be carried by you. There is no cost added to your need to drive a big fat V8 for the damage it does to the planet. No matter how good it is, it pollutes more than smaller ones and should be priced accordingly. The debt will be paid by someone, and it's immoral to shove it off on the future. That's the fact an already overcrowded planet needs to wake up to and fast. As for my pie in the sky requirements, is wanting non bleached paper on the shelf next to the higher priced (to reflect the true environment cost) bleached paper so out of line? Sorry if I ruffled your feathers, I was torn by apologizing for singling you out on that side of the divide, but I decided to apologize would then really single you out. :( Regards, Al "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. FROM: "But I'm not about to feel guilty for buying and driving a vehicle I like and can afford." Paraphrase: Of the things to consider, the environment is not a factor. I have the bucks and I want it. After all, it's all about me. "Until then (the pie in the shy perfect electric car), I'm going to buy vehicles with big fat V8's." I have a justification for my excess, because there is no alternative I like. Because it's all about me, remember? I don't feel guilty. Not one bit. With regards to the environment, I'm in the process of buying a new car with a bit fat V8 that meets ULEV/ULEV-II emissions standards. It emits less pollution than small displacement four or six cylinder motors of just a few years ago. That's more than good enough to let me sleep at night. Are you saying I should spend tens of thousands to buy an inferior vehicle that I won't like? That's asinine. I may have "pie in the sky" requirements before alternative energy cars are appealing to me, yes, but you have "pie in the sky" requirements about life itself. I'm a big advocate for non-fossil-fuel sourced energy. I wish that PZEV/ZEV vehicles existed that could meet my basic requirements. And someday, they will--and I'll be the first in line to buy one.

big v8's keep the cost of fuel down and do not pollute any more then anything else, some may even be better. Basically new cars just do not put that much out the pipe with cats. do not believe me run with the garage door closed and see. Re: Standard of living - was - cars was [H] google search for "failure"
P.S. Let me say, if one wants to drive a big fat V8, I believe in freedom. Please drive one. But that driver should pay for the extra pollution. It's the pricing system that does not reflect the true cost of driving that big V8. Thx for your time. Al Al <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Hey ppl, > > Lots of good replies from the group;
Standard of living - was - cars was [H] google search for "failure"
Hey ppl, Lots of good replies from the group; FROM: "But I'm not about to feel guilty for buying and driving a vehicle I like and can afford." Paraphrase: Of the things to consider, the environment is not a factor. I have the bucks and I want it. After all, it's all about me. "Until then (the pie in the shy perfect electric car), I'm going to buy vehicles with big fat V8's." I have a justification for my excess, because there is no alternative I like. Because it's all about me, remember? TO: The most enlightened comment of the discussion: "I think that's his point. Either you honestly don't feel guilty, or you choose not too. The question is - shouldn't one feel guilty about buying more of anything than one needs when there are other people in one's own country (I'm not talking Africa, I'm talking Canada and the US) who can't afford what they need? Shouldn't one buy the vehicle one needs and then use any money saved on helping someone else? I don't have an answer to this, and I certainly buy more than I need. But I think in a world of finite resources, our consume as much as we can mentality is going to take us down a bad road." Most got sidetracked with the 2500 lb error, which should have been 3500+ lb. A good side discussion on alternate energy was started. But there was little on the idea of excessive lifestyle. Here is an example: Has anyone reading this ever tried to get unbleached butt-wipe paper? Whenever I ask, I'm looked at like I'm crazy. The bleaching process is tough on the environment. and unnecessary. Butt-wipe paper should be made of almost 100% recycled paper and most of all unbleached. "Yuck. I'm not wiping my ass with that!", Nothing but pure white paper touches my ass; (to use 2 seconds and flush away)." (I have had ppl react to the suggestion of unbleached TP; just that way.) This is the kind of excessive lifestyle that is crammed down our ears by the marketers. Ever notice how much toothpaste is put on the toothbrush in the commercial? It has to be at least three times what one would need. This subconscious brow beating to excess is everywhere in advertizing. Leading us back to my comment Blind greed capitalism has the Western Culture (double for Americans) hoodwinked into thinking bigger, faster, more, and the some more after that is the way to a happy life. Buy now; and save. regards, Al
