[H] Eudora Question

2007-02-15 Thread DHSinclair

I seem to have one (last) email stuck at my ISP.
Yes, it does have an attachment worth 7.9MB.
Yes, I've modified/changed my:
/tools/options/incoming_mail/ switch to
Check+"skip msgs >20MB in size."
(if/when I get this one, I'll lower this gate!!)

What else have I missed? Can not get this last old msg
local. It seems to stay at the ISP. Hmm.
But, very glad to be back on Eudora :)
Best,
Duncan

[H] Eudora Question

2007-04-30 Thread dhs

How do I get Eudora to re-show my old email folders and old email?

My main office machine lost its' scsi HD 2 days ago. Have converted this
machine to eide now, finally.
Was able to save my "EudoraPro" directory, MyDocuments directory, and much
other stuff before the
HD went terminal. :(

Office machine is now back on its' new hd (160GB Barracuda) and and fresh w2k
install.
Still getting up to speed with W2K updates! .. All 54 of them!!

I brought back the previous Eudora directory, but when I launch from a
shortcut, none of
old "other" email "mailboxes" are visible and the address book is blank! What
have I missed?
Yes, I do know that Eudora is now open-source. I am using V5.1.1.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Best,
Duncan

[H] Eudora Question

2007-10-12 Thread DHSinclair

Eudora stores email attachments in a default directory called "attach" in the
EudoraPro main directory. I like to create and use monthly sub-folders in
this

"attach" directory.

However, when I do this AND put the attachment(s) in their new home Eudora
puts a red X on the attachment and can not find it. Well, Duh! I get this.

I have tried to use to right click on the now red-x'd attachment and then
View Source. At the bottom of what looks like html coding are the lines that
point to the old location of the attachment. I have edited these lines to
point to

the new location, but the red X remains.

It appears that there is no way to tell Eudora where the attachment(s) now
reside.

Am I correct? Not a biggie, just weird :)
Thanks,
Duncan

[H] Eudora Question

2007-12-31 Thread DHSinclair

I've read and read. Still wondering?
Eudora maintains a directory called "attach."
Here Eudora stores those objects that come via emails. OK
I know that I can create sub-folders within this directory if I
choose to store by month/year/whatever. I believe I could
even put the "attach" folder anywhere else and just point
Eudora at it. Fine.

If/when I move any of the attachments post-receipt, the email
gets updated with a red-X for the attachment. I accept that this
means that Eudora is telling me that the attachment is NOT
where it was put when the email was originally received.

Is there any way to edit the email to fix what appears to be a
'broken link' that I know I created?
Happy New Year!
Best,
Duncan

Thane,
Don't mean to sound dense, but I do not understand. Here is the specs of my

Target: E:\EudoraPro\Eudora.exe
Start in: E:\EudoraPro

The directory, E:\EudoraPro, is where all the old email, mailboxes, and Eudora

Sheesh, this used to be so simple.. :)

My Eudora is now on my E: drive, the only directory there.
Originally, it was on the D:\ drive. I've updated the eudora.ini file to point
to E:\
Confused?

Gonna try it back on D:\ again.. :)

So the program starts from "C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora" but the

So I think your target should be:

that is clearer, you will need to edit the deudora.ini file to point to the new

Well, I'm assuming that you want to view what attachments you have based
on the timestamp. So you would want to go into the attach directory,
sort by timestamp, and you'd be able to see the attachments sorted based
on the date that you got them.

OK, now I see where you came from. Yes, the "attach" directory was sorted
by "date ascending."
The old email's attachments only became redX'd after I instituted separate
(monthly) sub-directories. This is not a new "bug" though. Happens
everytime I reload Eudora AND forget to start this process B4 getting new
mail. LOL! It is my bad. I suppose I was really wondering why I can not
seem to edit/re-stitch the attachments back to their original emails
after-the-fact?
Thanks. Local problem most likely. I'll put everything back and see what

I believe that the only way to fix the red x is to
have the file that Eudora is looking for in the
attachment directory, "attach". It's probably not
possible to edit each email individually to point
to its attachment in different folders.

What editor did you use?

I used WordPad, but found that WP

Eudora needed to do some sort of recovery.
All emails came back with a "?" as the Read/Unread status marker.
Just finished changing them all back to /Read/.

use NotePad and save with the /all files/ saveas.

Sorry but one can edit the .mbx file to the new file location when Eudora
is closed as I just did it again to verify. Now you can NOT do this if the
file is Embedded in an html message unless you send the message to your
web browser & save the message separately. One can also salvage an
accidentally deleted message [you emptied the Trash] by editing the
corresponding .mbx file while Eudora is open but if you close Eudora it'll
be lost forever.

Have PFEv101. Easy to use so far, but have not used it yet to edit anything.
How do I know that it will save the dot-mbx file w/o mucking the format and/or

I do notice that the dot-mbx files seem to be encoded in ANSI. At least
this is

what the Properties window says...Should I choose ANSI in PFEv101 B4

Seems most of the 'help' files for PFEv101 are written for programmers. I

You're just editing the location of the attached file but it will change
all the read/unread icons to ? but other than that it won't mess anything
else up. I believe we talked about that fix earlier.

Nope. But yes, this is what happened. I just went back thru the mb and

I use System Fixed Pitch but that's just the Font & shouldn't mess up
anything even if you don't change it. When I go to Properties on In.mbx I
don't get anything about ANSI. What OS are you running. I'm in Xp Pro.

OK, I'll play with it some tonight. A 'just wondering' thing. To see the

No sweatski comrade. Create an incoming filter «Any Recipient»Intersects

an exact copy with the action being the only thing that is changed. If you
created the redirect folder filter then you can just add the action "make

Just for the record for those that are having problems with Eudora crashing
another fix other than the folder redirections is to put the "esoteric.epi"
that is in the ExtraStuff folder in the same folder that eudora.exe
resides. This adds more features at the bottom to the menu Tools/Options &
there is one that is titled "Threading" whose default is 10. Cut that
number in half also will solve many problems. FWIW I've done both the
folder redirection & reducing the number of threads & I can't remember
crashing one in the past couple of years.

3.11. I've tried many other email apps since but always keep coming back to
Eudora.

You should have a filter already for the mailing lists & in that case just
add the action "Make Personality" to your existing filter. You can create
another filter if you want but if you're like me you'll be overwhelmed with
the number of filters very soon. For mailing list filters I use «Any
Recipient» contains hardware@hardwaregroup.com & Transfer to HWG & if it
were me then I'd add the "Make Personality" to that filter but you can
duplicate the filter adding the extra action if you want.

I never thought of adding the personality switch to my
other filters. :)

I think it's easier to have a separate filter for the personality switch,
as when I start teaching this to my users, I have to keep this as simple as
possible (and most of them won't use any other filters anyway.)

The only difference between this filter & a filter that combines other
actions is the number of actions. For you I would definitely combine the
actions into one filter just to keep the number of filters down but the
concept is still the same for nOObs just with less actions. As with all
things computer related there are many ways to accomplish the same thing.
What ever makes you happy.

At this point, I have about fifty filters, so another doesn't add too much. :)

This seems to work.

For Receiver I assume that you're filling in an email address. You could
change that part to "Intersects Nickname" ME then it should work with all
the email addys just in case you're subscribed to a list with more than one
addy otherwise the way that you have works fine. On some lists but not this
one I'm subscribed under more than one addy for various reasons.

Actually I've named the personality Receiver, so I'm just using that rather
than the intersect.

my main folder already has a file by that name and I hesitate to overwrite it.
I do not have a threading option.
I also can not remember the last time Eudora crashed. Only bug I have is if
checking mail with no net connection it seems to not be happy about that.
