Ook wouldn't it be quicker/easier to just do
hldsupdatetool -command update -game hl2mp -dir path\.

Rather than just deleting everything and starting again?

SoI start my hl1mp source server, and I get:

Your server is out of date. Please update and restart.

So, I started over. Deleted everything. Created a new install of hl2mp.
Overwrote stuff from the following GCFs:

 half-life deathmatch source gcf
 half-life source deathmatch client gcf
 half-life source gcf

Updated my cfgs as needed. Start server. Same thing. This always worked in
the past. My next step is to delete my GCFs, and let steam download them
again to make sure they really current. I see hl1mp servers with players
 in
 them, so...what am I missing?

We at catsgaming.com put one server up before the free weekend started but
was never really touched.

When the free weekend started, it got busy, to the point we put another 10
man server up, before I went to be at 4am both servers were 5/8. Just looked
now there both 8/8.

I think Im gonna change sv_maxvisible from 8 to 9, and keep the one hidden
slot, see how that works out.

The only thing I don't like about running The Ship is there no MOTD, so we
can't put in any links to where they can contact us, if need admin or
anything else.

filled up within a couple of hours.

We added a further 10 man deathmatch around 13:15GMT and it filled up in
 10 mins.

Hopefully you guys can convert some of the interest into sales so you can
buy some servers of your own ;).

Cause, I preloaded The Ship for the free weekend, just wondering when the

A required update for The Ship has just been released. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific changes include:

 - Replaced /votekick in chat with a new system. Now you can vote to
kick players by right-clicking on them from the scoreboard
 - Fixed rcon / Dedicated Server chat crash
 - Added commands to switch to player, team and identity chat, default
key binding have been added for them
 - Fixed some UI panels disappearing after switching resolution and
 screen mode
 - Killing inactive players in VIP mode no longer strips them of their
weapons, and killing active players now results in their weapons being
left in their corpse instead of cleared
 - Fixed items spawning too quickly when items are removed from
 containers
 - Passengers now do not wear outfits reserved for Teams in Team Modes
 - Friendly fire is now off by default for Team Modes
 - Moved team round respawn to the end of the start of round countdown,
so that countdown completes, then teams respawn
 - Team respawn at end of countdown fixes putting the player in amongst
the enemy when changing teams between rounds
 - Removed dependency for msvcr71.dll
 - Fixed kitchen name and cash icons on Raifucu Maru deckplan
 - VIP now spawns as far away from friendlies as he can when he dies of
needs/suicide, which makes him a sitting duck for his hunters, who get
an immediate update on his new location
 - Passengers or players in jail no longer get frozen or respawned at the
 start of a new round
 - Sprinting without a movement button pressed no longer effects your
 sprint capacity or fatigue
 - Flare's now correctly collide with doors
 - Fixed wallets sticking around after going overboard

To get sound working requires a bit of effort, but as long as your card is
supported by ALSA your fine.
(Sound card list: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/)

Wine isn't meant for playing games, there is another program... err Cedega,
theres a pretty good review of it here:
http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/07/25/1726224

Ook, alot of the programs you listed, there are Linux versions of them,
(well maybe not HLSW).

And, ATi drivers do exist on the ATi site, apparently fairly well supported
 easy to install.

On 31/01/07, Ook [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

It's tongue in cheek. Wine does exactly what an emulator, by definition,
does in that it allows program not written for Linux to run under Linux. I
used to run my OP4 server under wine on Slackware 10.0 on a PIII/800. Ran
great, preformance was no better or worse then running under Windows. I
couldn't get serverdoc to run, and couldn't get a restart script to work,
 so
I eventually moved it back to my windows box. Then I moved my ftp servers,
winMX, SoulSeek, eMule, and hlsw to my Linux box, all running under Wine.
They worked good until current releases broke them. The real drawback
 with
wine is that while they have made great strides with it, there are still
many compability issues. After all these years, Wine is still beta quality
at best. New releases frequently break things that used to work. I
personally think there is no future in Wine because they just can't get a
 handle on the compability issues.

WINE == Wine is not an emulator... (see http://www.winehq.com/site/myths

updating to Vista?

Personally I used Vista RTM on my laptop, and never liked it, playing WOW in
windowed mode, cause so many Graphics card has had a serious error

This new problem, is just another reason, I shall not be upgrading to Vista,
on my PC it had a major overhall in August 06, the X-Fi alone was probably
one of the biggest spends.

[hlds] Servers not showing in server list

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi,

Since Steam went down, I appear to be having a problem with my server many
other server(s) now showing in the master server list.
This was never a problem before steam went down, but when I looked before it
was not in the server list, and a few people have said this.
The server is currently running SvenCoop - even the WirePlay servers don't
show up in the server list.

My server crashed out this morning :/ so it was rebooted and I half hoped it
would show back up, but alas it hasn't.

Any ideas on how to get my servers back?

Dan

Try asking in the SvenCoop forums, they should be able to give you a better
answer.

But if you use metamod, always use metamod-p the current normal metamod
doesnt work very well with sven.

accept players based on the client's choice to allow the changes. The
default setting can still be restrictive - as long as the server side
solution provides a means to clearly notify the player why his or her
connection has been closed. This way, the player is protected and
 given
choice - and the game hoster is able to deliver an enhanced and
 balanced

If the mod developers can nail this solution with hours of this fiasco

It's funny that your not willing to look down the road, what do you think
is going to happen next? So the mods programmers found a work around, Valve
makes a new update to the servers, and around we dance, next comes the
blatant var hacks, your server is no longer the protected place to play and
you can not do anything to stop it. So in the end you will have an empty
server. I have never ran a server for profit so it is easy for me to shut
down, but come on wouldn't it be better to have a short period of server
outage and roll the dice that Valve might decide they need us admins and the
GSP's? Don't you think that there forums will fill with upset end users
wanting to know why their public server is gone?

Tyranny in any form is not an option. Valve chose to allow the public to
be the host for their games, and as such they need to start hearing what the
server admins are dealing with and start working to satisfy the demands of
the server admins or sooner or later there will be no public servers.

My orginal post was not meant to bring this to the whole, children playing

But I'm still getting an BF2 game advert in SvenCoop, while its comming up
when I connect to my own server, personaly id rather have my website or
something else placed there.

I've not tried other mods to see if it is in that, but I've seen the Valve
Content logos up a few times recently, where before it was just a black box.

On 10/11/06, Bart King [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Hello,

Just to chip into this debate, the ability to display banners while the
game is loading, in my opinion, would not necessarily be attractive to
advertisers or sponsors in the first place.

Looking at how commercial advertising generally works, clients request
that their adverts are shown for a minimum (or optimal) amount of time, so
the relevant information in regards to the advertisement (e.g. a brand
name, slogan or other catchy hook) is displayed long enough for the viewer
 to absorb it.

Secondly, online advertisers require the ability to click-through to their
web site or marketing campaign. Due to the nature of how the game loads,
all processing time is transferred to loading of the game, thus user
interactivity is generally unresponsive (as a side problem, because of this,
animated banners become an issue, too).

So, mitigating problems that also come from having banners displayed at
load time include that the time taken to load can vary quite wildly, and
opening a web browser while the game is full-screen just to view an
advertisement is something that isn't going to happen.

Without these abilities, displaying a banner advert is mostly a waste, and
relying on the user remembering about your product an hour later when they
stop playing. That's not going to work.

And also related, how many users actually read the MOTD on game
servers? Maybe one or two, so that's not an attractive option either :)

Lastly, to chip in on the whole this isn't appropriate for kids debate,
kids generally are attracted to things that aren't appropriate for them -
 that's what kids do.

Also, parental awareness about computer games is generally fairly low, and
various governmental or charity campaigns largely get unnoticed by these
parents. I'm sure if it was explained to parents that Counter-Strike
involves killing and brutally maiming terrorists and counter-terrorists in a
quick-fire civil war, things might not necessarily go down too well!

And finally, to reply to Steve's comment about adding a cvar for a banner
being one line of code, I can see you're not a software developer :)

 1. How many loading banners have you seen that would not be suitable for
 kids?

 2. How many sprays have you seen in game that would not be suitable for
 kids?

That's just two questions, that I feel the average reader of this mail
could answer... Truly, the loading banner is very rarely (if ever)
offensive. I have for one did not see any at the time that I would deem
 unsuitable for My children.

We could go further, text chat in game can be VERY offensive, and perhaps
emotionally affect kids (or adults)... Custom Sprays, Voice, Some custom
maps, Oh and what about 'that HW guy is BULLYING ME' surely that's a case
 for court?

Perhaps the time has come when Steam games should have an abuse button
that can be used? That would hopefully cover Valve, in that they've done
what they can about abusive user/admin/server. Once someone gets 50 unique
 complaints, Valve examines it themselves?

There's enough control being put on us as a people, political crapness
etc, we're losing real life 'features' on a daily basis, there's a better
 way!
(Just from the 'feel' in Valve games, they aren't the type to 'give
 in')...

I know this is kinda silly, and the banner doesn't MAKE the game, but it
would be nice to see it back.

Hey, if we're getting other peoples ads coming up on our banners, we
should be getting paid for advertising £ :) $ ;)

Maybe a NEW cvar just for the banners, that would be like 1 line of code,
surely that would be easy to implement and update via steam?

And by BF2 do you mean the game BF2 or is that a communities abbreviation?
