Hiya,

I'm

My

primarily:

A)
Anyone

still
get
a
hacked

B)
There
are
already
more
32-slot

This
isn't
about
allowing

The

such

I
made
the
original
32x
bypass
for
linux
(the
LD_PRELOAD
one)
so
I

could
run
my
own
server
at
32x,
and
made
it
into
a

simply

the

of
it.
I

if
there's
any

convincing
reasons
not
to
put
a
plugin
out
there
to
do
this
I'd
be

glad
to

Of
course,
it
would
be
better
if
Valve
would
just
step
in
and
fix
this

one
way
or
the
other.

Re: [hlds] 32 player delist plugin

2008-02-11 Thread 1nsane .
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Not everyone has a host that lets them run 32 player servers, thanks to the
fear of getting their IP's blacklisted. This fear was largely put to rest
after the Update which fixed the 32nd player crash. And after that forum
post from that Valve guy.

Now a plugin would largely fix it. Install it once, don't worry about it.
Instead of:

Install it once
Fear of an update making your server 24 slots again
Hope some guy makes a fixed engine.dll just in time and is not actually mid
flight. In which case we wait for a few hours, possibly longer.

Now of course Valve is the only one that can fix this 100%, by officially
allowing it. You'd think by now they would of succumbed to us. I mean it is
what the community wants. I understand if their vision of the game had the
servers capped at 24 players and that they wanted them to be at 24 at launch
or soon after launch. So that the most amount of people could buy and enjoy
the game whit out having performance problems. But the game is out now, and
the community wants higher player counts. Well the server admins do, whether
the 32 player servers are popular do to their positions on the list or due
to player preference is another. But the fact is that the community wants
it, the community already has it. Meh... It's all been said already.

I'll just try to wait and see who does what and who does it first and what
not oh and what Valve does, if anything.

2008-02-11 Thread Nephyrin Zey
This is true, but that would just imply that many 24-man-server owners
are not running 32-man servers because they are unable to. There are
already enough 32man servers to flood pages of the listing, and those
who still wish to run 24 slot servers can do so, so if there are those
out there that wish they could run 32x but arn't given the option,
wouldn't it be better to let them? It's just a game, after all.

I made the original 32x bypass for linux (the LD_PRELOAD one) so I

The Linux version is already out... And was out for quite some time. I
remember at least 2 server hosts replying and saying that they will be using
it. Plus there is nothing preventing them from offering it anyways, for a
higher price even and having a disclaimer saying Your server might not be
the first one to appear on the list after an update if you do want more than
24 slots. I'm sure it would sell real good had someone tried that.

Re: [hlds] 32 player delist plugin

2008-02-11 Thread 1nsane .
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Clearly we all know the main reason why this was not shared from the
begging. But yes, now it's past that. The game can easily handle 32 players
and people like the servers with higher user counts. If Valve released an
update that officially allowed 32 players, that would be the best. But as
their current stand is, they will not.

In that case most people have to wait for me to make that engine.dll file
and if it just so happens that I get run over by a cat and can't get the
file out right away then there will only be servers with the newest patch
out from one of us. Which gives us an unfair advantage over everyone, the
other 32 player servers included. High slot counts appear higher in the list
when sorted by slot counts. There is also a higher chance of a random empty
32 player server filling up and becoming full just at random than there is
of a 24 player server filling up.

And if either plugin is released it would make it easier for everyone, level
out the playing field a bit. We still have other tricks up our sleeves when
it comes to running a successful 32 player server, don't we? :P.

Somehow I doubt Tony would of wanted to released his plugin had Neph never
contacted him.

I, for one, would like a delist bypass plugin like this out to the public.
Not that I got bored of making a special engine.dll file whenever Valve
releases an update. No, it's just the better solution.

RE: [hlds] 32 player delist plugin

2008-02-11 Thread Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald
I think the real solution is simple.

Valve needs to quit limiting the player count to 24.

Let the players decide for themselves if it's too laggy. Quit being the
server nanny.

Oh dear honey, a 32 player server might lag your pc so you're not allowed
to see 32 player servers.

...

Unless they hacked the engine.dll or wrote a plug-in to show the servers
anyhow, then you can play there because those servers are teh uber
h4x0rs!!!

anymore.
The
only
real
effect
of

releasing
a
clean
plugin
to
do
it
would
be
making
it
easier
on
admins

who
wouldn't
have
to
wait
for
a
new
'cracked'
dll
or
convoluted

LD_PRELOAD
hack
on
linux,
such
that
32-slot
servers
are
not
exclusive

to
the
slightly
more
daring
crowd.

I
made
the
original
32x
bypass
for
linux
(the
LD_PRELOAD
one)
so
I

could
run
my
own
server
at
32x,
and
made
it
into
a
plugin
simply
for

the
fun
of
it.
I
never
got
a
response
on
IRC,
but
if
there's
any

convincing
reasons
not
to
put
a
plugin
out
there
to
do
this
I'd
be

glad
to
listen

Of
course,
it
would
be
better
if
Valve
would
just
step
in
and
fix
this

one
way
or
the
other.

Its

Re: [hlds] 32 player delist plugin

2008-02-11 Thread Nephyrin Zey
Hiya,

I'm the bastard who messaged him on IRC about releasing a 32-player
bypass hack. My reasoning is primarily:
A) Anyone that wants to can still get a hacked engine.dll
B) There are already more 32-slot servers than players wish to fill.
This isn't about allowing 32x or not anymore. The only real effect of
releasing a clean plugin to do it would be making it easier on admins
who wouldn't have to wait for a new 'cracked' dll or convoluted
LD_PRELOAD hack on linux, such that 32-slot servers are not exclusive
to the slightly more daring crowd.

I made the original 32x bypass for linux (the LD_PRELOAD one) so I
could run my own server at 32x, and made it into a plugin simply for
the fun of it. I never got a response on IRC, but if there's any
convincing reasons not to put a plugin out there to do this I'd be
glad to listen

Of course, it would be better if Valve would just step in and fix this
one way or the other.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I'm just tired of being stuck at 24 slots, not because I want more players,
but for the inability to add extra slots to the server to allow people to
get in when the server is full via VIP. That's all I want, and I can't even
do that since if I do, I'll get de-listed. I mean seriously, it's not like
people want 64 slots like CS:S. =P I think 32 slots is manageable for TF2.
