2008-07-03 Thread Dog
Been full since the update.
The two servers that always give problems are the Windows machines.
Both are holding steady at 237Mb, one of which is a 24/7 Goldrush server so
no frequent map changes, but the other is a Custom server with a map change
every 30 mins. No problems there either

...fingers crossed.

I know for a fact when I blocked the "equip" command, the memory usage after
24 hours was 400MB, as opposed to 1.4GB prior to blocking "equip"

We'll see what happens now that the leak is supposedly fixed.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released

2008-04-03 Thread Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald
Tags implemented as they are now, will not help you find vanilla servers.

If a new plug-in is made for TF2, the tags will not be modified
automatically, and they will not be modified voluntarily either if server
ops are put into another list for it which causes them to lose their server
traffic.

Every single server in the internet list could be custom, instagib
deathmatch, without the server admins using plug-ins to "hide" tags.

I read it.. I understand it... there :p

There does come a time where many find themselves craving a vanilla server,
just to play it as it was intended by the developers. For other mods this
would not make sense, but tf2 has so many servers that its needed. Same goes
for cs:s. Its like google search results, if your not on the first two pages
you don't get seen, at least here in tf2 there are now greater chances of
your server getting seen by the people who are looking for it.

If not the tabs, then a filter macro. Its all about allowing me, the player,
to find what I'm looking for faster.

Another effect of this tabs, which it looks like you haven't taken in

you have mostly only servers now on that tab were idiots play who keep

I tend to agree. The only reason I was even aware of the box was through
this mailing list, and I read the update news. But I can tell you that most
gamers are just going to click past that tiny box without caring what was in
the box. They figure, "if its important I'll get the message again, but I
want to play a game right now!"

...And don't take that as an invitation to make that dialog box show up
everytime you open the browser either, in hopes someone will see it.

Actually I think it was only announced on the hlds_announce list (you really
should be on this one, as it notifies of all updates regardless.)

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released

2008-04-03 Thread Eric van Beesten
Yep.. same here.. Metamod source 1.6.1 and Sourcemod 1.0. But i dont think
that is the problem. Because when I connect the server is half full and they
don't disconnect. If it was sourcemod/metamod all players should have
troubles with it. It personally think its client side.

If you were subscribed ot the hlds_linux list you would have got it.

The Linux Team Fortress 2 dedicated server update is now available.
This is not a required update, but strongly recommended since it fixes
the crash on changelevel.

Either that or they implement a ten second timer where you can't close that

Most annoying thing is that Custom tab is not available in Steam
client. Thus the same server appears on Internet tab in Steam client
and on Custom tab of the in-game browser which stupid, ridiculous and
confusing. No one is going to understand the logic behind this and any
number of educational dialogs won't help it. Either add Custom tab to
Steam client or remove it from in-game browser.

It's not only silly and annoying, its just plain stupid. I've asked people
around if someone has actually read the box, I haven't been able to find one
yet!

VALVe, please, just accept for once you've made a mistake, a screw up. We'll
forgive you, things like this can happen. But for god sakes, take that damn
tab out of the server browser!

Another effect of this tabs, which it looks like you haven't taken in
account, is that all 'noob' players are on the internet tab. As with result
you have mostly only servers now on that tab were idiots play who keep
spamming and screaming shit, abusing bugs etc etc. And the default servers
are mostly not really closely monitored by admins, so the abuse keeps going
on 24/7. Good improvement on the game impression for new players! I'm sure
they love playing in that kind of environment!

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released

2008-04-01 Thread 1nsane .
I am currently running a VANILLA 24 player TF2 server which has the
following VANILLA ?con?figurations:

Demomen shoot Babies/Explosive Barrels (Instead of Pipe Bombs/Sticky Bombs)
Sentry Gun/Soldier rockets are Watermelons... Crit Watermelons FTW. I am not
using any plugin to bypass Valve's wishes (on that server atleast) and it
appears on the internet tab! Cclearly intended functionallity. I don't
expect that server will be banned of the serverlist anytime too soon?

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released

2008-04-01 Thread Robert Whelan
I'd be happy just to see my server, lol. After update it disappeared (24 slot
server). In the tf2 browser I see about 50 servers and 5 custom. I don't have a
problem with inet/cust, my problems always been battling to see my servers on
the list (hlds/srcds and now orangebox) and the myriad of others out there.

Should we still be running: ?

// old (outside-of-Steam) code to communicate with master servers.

Great! A dialog that will be closed before it finishes drawing the text, and
then never opened again.

The average gamer looking for a server will close that dialog without
reading it. I suggest valve put a statistic to see how long the average
player has that dialog open, and they will find out:

1. A majority of the players are very fast readers that can read over 1000
words per minute.
2. Players don't have the dialog open long enough to read it.

That's a shame, because I want to use sv_tags without being penalized for it
and put into another list where my servers will go to die.

Hell, I can't even run a vanilla server with sv_tags vanilla, my vanilla
server will show on the custom tab.

The two tabs idea is broken. Quit wasting time working on a mechanic that
will be fiercely fought. I can make server modifications left and right
without sv_tags being modified, and I will have no incentive to properly
list my server modifications if I am punished for it.

If valve starts delisting servers about this, it will be the beginning of
the end. Especially modified servers that don't forcefully modify the
sv_tags, but just install addons that do not advertise themselves in
sv_tags.

I can turn my servers into instagib deathmatch without it changing sv_tags.

I have hosted a server for over 4 years now and I only do it for my own
entertainment and sorry Valve, but the best part of running(and playing on)

sourcemod folks and now more than ever Beetlefart and of course others have
come up with. I'm not blind though, I do realize there are serious CAL type
gamers out there who only want vanilla servers, but I do believe that there
are more who like the fun stuff that's been added on. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe
Valve could care less about these mods, but if so, why make a completely
different tab that only shows up if you are already in the game? That part
really confuses me because I run steam from windows, I decide what game to
play from my steam client before I go into the game, even what server. So, I
rarely ever use the steam search while I'm in the game. So, why is it that
Valve decided to put the tab there and not in the steam client I use before
I start the game??? That part I don't get at all. But in all honestly, I did
check out the new message from the update tonight and it seems fine to me.
Do I think anyone will notice it? I doubt it, will they use it? I hope they
do. I do, however agree with most people on this list that adding this type
of thing to the current filters would be much better, but then again, I make
no money from my server, so it doesn't affect me the same way.

Also, I'd like to say I am glad to have this list and am very appreciative
of the few people from Valve who do send out updated info, even though we
never hear from Alfred anymore!

Just my two cents,
Rodge from Maryland(aka Monkey House)

The required Team Fortress 2 update is now released. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive this update. The specific changes include:

- Added Custom Tab explanation dialog to be shown the first time the
server browser is opened
- Changed Medigun Ubercharge meter to drain faster for each target that
still has Ubercharge beyond your current target. This means there is a
penalty for having multiple people being Ubercharged at one time
- Fixed crouch-jump exploit that allowed players to get outside of the
world
- Fixed bad characters in the chat string when achievements are
announced in languages other than English
- Fixed a few instances of truncated text in the menus and dialogs for
languages other than English
- Fixed problem that was preventing some dedicated servers from
uploading gamestats
- Fixed scoring bug during Sudden Death when the map timelimit is
triggered
- Added the string "(extra slot was added for SourceTV)" when maxplayers
is increased for SourceTV

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released

2008-04-01 Thread Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald
- Added Custom Tab explanation dialog to be shown the first time the
server browser is opened

I don't suppose anyone else is having all their players get disconnected

Required updates to the Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server have
been released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive these
updates. The specific changes include:

Source Engine:
- Fixed a bug in networking that would cause long stalls (up to 10
seconds) when a split packets weren't be reassembled
properly, which forced a full update to the client(s)
- General optimization to tracelines
- Fix for broken .dem file playback
- Added backward compatibility code to allow demos recorded
with protocol 12 to continue to be playable under protocol version 13
- When showing "WARNING: Connection Problem", now indicate
the number of seconds remaining before an auto-disconnect will occur
- Fixed a bug that would cause NULLNAME to be shown as the
player's name in the scoreboard for a short time.

Team Fortress 2:
- Fixed exploit where spectators could spawn into the world
without actually joining a team

Hydro map changes:
- Fixed an exploit that would allow players to jump out of the map

Granary map changes:
- Cover changes to the first capture points of both teams.
Reduces some of the sight lines for defenders, and should
make the area easier to capture
- Teams that are holding more points will receive a greater
spawn time bonus (spawn timer reduced for the winning team).
This should help attacking teams build momentum
- Minor visual tweaks to the BLU side between capture points 2 and 3
- Clipped off a super high (demo pipe jump) perch in the middle area
- Increased base round timer to 10 minutes
- Added windows overlooking the final cap from the capture
point 2 building (via new room next to conveyor route)
- Minor changes to lighting in the middle area
- Moved the middle spawn points farther forward (saves 6-7
seconds off a Heavy's run from this spawn to enemy capture point 2)
- Reduced spawn advantage/penalty to a total of -/+ 6 seconds
when on the final cap (from 10 seconds)
- Fixed material alignment and model interpenetration issues
in home spawn rocket rooms

SourceTV:
- Increased default bandwidth rate from 5 to 8 KB/sec for
spectator clients
- Increased SourceTV demo buffer size for table class
descriptions from
64 to 96KB. Team Fortress 2 was running over this
- Performance improvement for copying unreliable data buffers
to SourceTV clients
- Updated the list of events in TF2 tagged for the director to play

Source Engine:
- Fixed a bug in networking that would cause long stalls (up to 10
seconds) when a split packets weren't be reassembled properly, which
forced a full update to the client(s)
- General optimization to tracelines
- Fix for broken .dem file playback
- Added backward compatibility code to allow demos recorded with
protocol 12 to continue to be playable under protocol version 13
- When showing "WARNING: Connection Problem", now indicate the number
 of
seconds remaining before an auto-disconnect will occur
- Fixed a bug that would cause NULLNAME to be shown as the player's
 name
in the scoreboard for a short time.

Team Fortress 2:
- Fixed exploit where spectators could spawn into the world without
actually joining a team

Hydro map changes:
- Fixed an exploit that would allow players to jump out of the map

Granary map changes:
- Cover changes to the first capture points of both teams. Reduces some
of the sight lines for defenders, and should make the area easier to
capture
- Teams that are holding more points will receive a greater spawn time
bonus (spawn timer reduced for the winning team). This should help
attacking teams build momentum
- Minor visual tweaks to the BLU side between capture points 2 and 3
- Clipped off a super high (demo pipe jump) perch in the middle area
- Increased base round timer to 10 minutes
- Added windows overlooking the final cap from the capture point 2
building (via new room next to conveyor route)
- Minor changes to lighting in the middle area
- Moved the middle spawn points farther forward (saves 6-7 seconds off
 a
Heavy's run from this spawn to enemy capture point 2)
- Reduced spawn advantage/penalty to a total of -/+ 6 seconds when on
the final cap (from 10 seconds)
- Fixed material alignment and model interpenetration issues in home
spawn rocket rooms

SourceTV:
- Increased default bandwidth rate from 5 to 8 KB/sec for spectator
clients
- Increased SourceTV demo buffer size for table class descriptions from
64 to 96KB. Team Fortress 2 was running over this
- Performance improvement for copying unreliable data buffers to
SourceTV clients
- Updated the list of events in TF2 tagged for the director to play

RE: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server update

2007-11-15 Thread Keeper
I was playing on a private server with some friends and one of them knew of
this - I did not. Funniest thing I ever tried to figure out.

But, this is a serious exploit that would ruin this map on public servers.
This map has been removed from several pub map rotations. I hope the fix is
quick.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update

2007-11-03 Thread Rikard Bremark
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
what do you mean with " make sure the updatetool is in the folder that
you are running it frum"?
i mean, you cant be en d:\steam\ and try to run the updatetool if its in
D:\steam\updatetool

or do you mean that we need to place it in the same directory that the
instlalation should go to?

i am trying to fetch the TF2 server and it just tries to download it to
" orangebox " dir why?

my strucutre ls like this:

d:\steam\updatettool\
d:\steam\hlds\
d:\steam\srcds\

and when trying to update the tf2 it creates a new dir in srcds dir
named orangebox with hl2 and bin folder and im guessing it will download
the srcds.exe also (havent let it go that far)

i run everything with bat scripts that many others do to mine looks like
this:

hlds:
d:
cd steam\updatetool
HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "cstrike" -dir D:\steam\hlds
-username zapyadmin -password my_secret_password -retry -verify_all
pause

cs source:
d:
cd steam\updatetool
HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "counter-strike source" -dir
D:\steam\srcds -username zapyadmin -password my_secret_password -retry
-verify_all
pause

initial tf2 bat:
d:
cd steam\updatetool
HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "tf" -dir D:\steam\srcds
-username zapyadmin -password my_secret_password -retry -verify_all
pause

because of the newly created folder orangebox inside srcds i changed the
script: (because im guessing it will download the whole hl2 and bin and
srcds.exe folders also so it gets "standalone")
d:
cd steam\updatetool
HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "tf" -dir D:\steam\ -username
zapyadmin -password my_secret_password -retry -verify_all
pause

I'm in the same boat. Everytime they release a new update i'm forced to
re-download the entire TF2 server due to the update software not working

If you have a hacked engine.dll, server.dll or a player limit remover plugin
that may be causing your problem if they have not been updated to compatible
versions.

If that's not the case, try deleting the contents of your orangebox/bin
directory, and your orangebox/tf2/bin directory, then retry the update with
-verify_all -retry appended to the end.

Required updates for Team Fortress 2 and it's dedicated servers are now
available. Please run hldsupdatetool to update. The specific changes
include:

- Improved compatibility for direct sound
- Deathcam screenshots now move the player id panel to the lower right,
and hide other hud elements until the freezecam fades
- Improved autobalance calculation code when determining who to switch
- Improved networking compatibility for some routers
- Fixed a crash during level init related to model loading
- Fixed issues on Dustbowl and Hydro that could occur when a server
emptied in the middle of a round
- Fixed a bug in the clientside player avoidance code, and smoothed it a
little more
- Further crash fixes related to paged pool memory usage
- Fixed scoreboard team scores label getting cut off
- Engineer buildings now explode when the Engineer dies during sudden
death
- Fixed a spy backstab exploit where you could stab a player who was not
facing away from you
- Fixed flailing at the low end of the cloak meter when the player gets
uncloaked automatically
- Fixed texture detail level setting "Very high" not being preserved
- Improved various error messages, and added links to steampowered
support pages
- Fixed scoring problem where destroying a buildable added a phantom
point, not attributed to any scoring bucket but still included in total
score
- Fixed honeypot server problems
- Fixed a rare crash caused by a medigun losing its owner
- Fixed an exploit that allowed disconnected medics to continue
ubercharging their target until they timed out
- TeamMenu now disables the spectate button if mp_allowspectators is
zero
- Added a missing "cannot_be_spectator" localization string
- Re-added class count numbers above class buttons for non-zero classes,
in addition to the class images
- Removed prefixes (tc_, ctf_, etc.) from map names in various places
where they're printed
- Fixed some edge cases where grenades could go through player or
buildings
- Fixed rocket/grenade explosions being able to impart damage through
thin ceilings
- The Engineer's "build X" commands will now behave properly when bound
directly to keys

If you have a hacked engine.dll, server.dll or a player limit remover plugin
that may be causing your problem if they have not been updated to compatible
versions.

If that's not the case, try deleting the contents of your orangebox/bin
directory, and your orangebox/tf2/bin directory, then retry the update with
-verify_all -retry appended to the end.

I'm having trouble updating my server.

The update appeared to occur normally, however when I try to restart it, it
still says server out of date please update.

Suggestions please ??

Thanks for the update Jason.

Is there a reason it say's it's updating from protocol 11 to 12, yet
after the update HLSW is reporting it is protocol 11 after the update. I
ran the update several times... It was successful each time and reports
the server is up to date.
I did see the version change from 1.0.0.4 to 1.0.0.5

Version: v1.0.0.5 (Windows, Dedicated, Protocol 11)

A new required update to Team Fortress 2 and the dedicated servers have
been released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the updates. The
specific changes include:

- Improved driver checks for various cards that can have problems with
specific driver versions
- Various updates to Russian and Polish localization
- Fixed loading screen and intro movie showing up on Windows Vista with
full screen AA
- Spies can no longer reload their revolver while cloaked
- Demomen grenades now collide with players and Engineer buildings after
the first bounce, but still won't explode on contact
- Improved startup network initialization to catch issues with server
firewalls popping up in the background
- Fixed a sound corruption issue which could cause audio popping
- Fixed achievement storage issues that caused a problem with the Head
of the Class achievement
