Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting

2009-03-14 Thread Donnie Newlove
No problem. Configure your server to just first move AFK players to
spectator and then kick only if the server is full (reserved slots not
included). This is good both for the AFK player, your servers player
count and the score will not be affected since if your server is full
you will receive plenty of score anyway.

Next.

You also don't want to spend this amount of time trying to second-guess the
system. In the simple case, there's no way in hell kicking someone for
being afk is going to push your server into the
very-high-connections-very-low-playing-time zone that they used to identify
player-hostile servers. In the complex case, _NOT_ kicking afk players will
have a larger effect on the rest of your community that leaving them around
ever could.

Imo people's energies would be better focused focusing on their community
and setting aside paranoia about the unfeasibly unlikely possibility of a
normal server being caught out by this until it actually happens.

Maybe just move these players to spec and mute them. Then kick them after
45 minutes. Unless your server is full. Need a plugin that works with

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting

2009-03-14 Thread Tony Paloma
It works fine for me. Eight servers, six of which are full pretty much 24/7
and nobody with a reserved slot has a problem using the console to connect
and remembering the IP they want to connect to. If they can't remember the
IP they grab it off of the "View server info" for the server in their
favorites or use the corresponding hostname.

Ok. Some of you really doesnt have more than just one server... We have 7
servers that are full every day, 200 slots in total. That doesnt come cheap
to have, so our community helps by donating money, we give them VIP slots in
exchange.

Using connect command you would have to everytime search for 8 different
server IP, port combination... 8 different keys to remeber all the different
servers? Putting 8 servers in main game menu. Thats bullshit and you guys
know that. Give me any other option and I will hide the slots. Its like 10
times easier just to connect to the server and you are instantly in.

And if you do not know any other arguments, stop talking shit that reserved
slots are a bad thing! Reserved slots are the reason the lets us have that
many servers in the first place.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting

2009-03-14 Thread Cc2iscooL
You guys that are all bitching about the scoring system have to realize a
few things.

1.) Valve is not going to release the server scores.

2.) Unless your server is the worst of the worst of the worst (fakeclients
in all slots, redirect server, etc) you're probably not going to get
delisted. Most of the people that run these servers do not purchase them
through GSP's (Game Server Providers.) They either run them on their own box
or from home, because you don't need a huge pipe to run a shit server with
redirection. Sure, you can change your IP and maybe last a few hours on each
IP change before your server gets blacklisted again, but that's the point of
it.

3.) I'm assuming they'll have a contact that can "unblacklist" IP's,
especially if it's hosted at a major GSP. To be honest, GSP's should have
more than enough IP addresses, so even if one does get blacklisted it would
be fairly easy to use a different IP address, or for them to use it for an
entirely different game (non TF2 or non-source, even.) If you're a GSP and
don't have extra IP's laying about, what are you doing running a GSP?

4.) I'm also assuming that after a certain period of time the "scores" reset
if the server hasn't been active. Thus if it's shut down the IP will
eventually free itself up from the database.

So quit your crying and whining because if you're running any type of legit
server this isn't going to affect you in the least bit. If they didn't say
it on the mailing list none of you would have even noticed.

Again, that is just what everyone is saying. If your server works like
that then great, it could not be any better.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting

2009-03-14 Thread Eric Riemers
1 hidden slot.. i really dont see any issues with that sollution.

i never had complaints about people getting kicked because of this,
sourcemod handles it just fine. When its 25/24 and someone leaves (out of
their own free will its 24/24 again, and a reserved person can comein, or
if someone else leaves its 23/24 and a pub person can join.

reserved people also know that when its 24/24 they should use "connect" via
the console.

No kicking involved.

Then tell your customers to add "bind F12 connect
123.123.123.123:27015" to their autoexec.cfg file or make an installer
that does it for them if they are completely clueless.
