Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
No problem. Configure your server to just first move AFK players to spectator and then kick only if the server is full (reserved slots not included). This is good both for the AFK player, your servers player count and the score will not be affected since if your server is full you will receive plenty of score anyway. Next. You also don't want to spend this amount of time trying to second-guess the system. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
It works fine for me. Eight servers, six of which are full pretty much 24/7 and nobody with a reserved slot has a problem using the console to connect and remembering the IP they want to connect to. If they can't remember the IP they grab it off of the "View server info" for the server in their favorites or use the corresponding hostname. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of valve list Sent: Saturday, March 14, 2009 12:09 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting Ok. Some of you really doesnt have more than just one server... We have 7 servers that are full every day, 200 slots in total. That doesnt come cheap to have, so our community helps by donating money, we give them VIP slots in exchange. Using connect command you would have to everytime search for 8 different server IP, port combination... 8 different keys to remeber all the different servers? Putting 8 servers in main game menu. Thats bullshit and you guys know that. Give me any other option and I will hide the slots. Its like 10 times easier just to connect to the server and you are instantly in. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
You guys that are all bitching about the scoring system have to realize a few things. 1.) Valve is not going to release the server scores. 2.) Unless your server is the worst of the worst of the worst (fakeclients in all slots, redirect server, etc) you're probably not going to get delisted. Most of the people that run these servers do not purchase them through GSP's (Game Server Providers.) They either run them on their own box or from home, because you don't need a huge pipe to run a shit server with redirection. Sure, you can change your IP and maybe last a few hours on each IP change before your server gets blacklisted again, but that's the point of it. 3.) I'm assuming they'll have a contact that can "unblacklist" IP's, especially if it's hosted at a major GSP. To be honest, GSP's should have more than enough IP addresses, so even if one does get blacklisted it would be fairly easy to use a different IP address, or for them to use it for an entirely different game (non TF2 or non-source, even.) If you're a GSP and don't have extra IP's laying about, what are you doing running a GSP? 4.) I'm also assuming that after a certain period of time the "scores" reset if the server hasn't been active. Thus if it's shut down the IP will eventually free itself up from the database. So quit your crying and whining because if you're running any type of legit server this isn't going to affect you in the least bit. If they didn't say it on the mailing list none of you would have even noticed. -Cc2iscooL On Sat, Mar 14, 2009 at 2:29 PM, Donnie Newlove wrote: > Sure, reserved slots is a good thing. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
1 hidden slot.. i really dont see any issues with that sollution. i never had complaints about people getting kicked because of this, sourcemod handles it just fine. When its 25/24 and someone leaves (out of their own free will its 24/24 again, and a reserved person can comein, or if someone else leaves its 23/24 and a pub person can join. reserved people also know that when its 24/24 they should use "connect" via the console. No kicking involved. On Sat, 14 Mar 2009 14:31:45 +0100, Donnie Newlove wrote: > Of course, but that is not how those servers work. Of course, but that is not how those servers work. If they did then it would be all fine and dandy. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
The only good way in my opinion would be to have some sort of hybrid: Hide the reserved slots, but kick any one who joins via command line. That way the server at least makes an attempt to warn the user it it full, but also enforces the reserved slot Donnie Newlove wrote: > 1. Connecting to a 23/24 server. Wait for 1 minute. 1. Connecting to a 23/24 server. Wait for 1 minute. Find out there’s just 2 guys there. Disconnect. 2. Connecting to a 23/24 server. Wait for 1 minute. Kicked. 3. Connecting to a 23/24 server. Wait for 1 minute. Play for 5 minutes. Kicked. Which one is your favourite? So you are one of the morons who has a server for example running 32 slots where 1 of them is reserved slot and every user who connects to it, will be kicked. Mask it! Teach your players to use connect ip:port! Then tell your customers to add "bind F12 connect 123.123.123.123:27015" to their autoexec.cfg file or make an installer that does it for them if they are completely clueless. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Delisting
You have to teach your players which use hidden slots. Try it, it works fine for us. Even CS players are able to handle hidden slots. > > >> Fix your reserved slots so their hidden, and everybody is happy.
