I have not lost my account I just gave all of you this message so that nobody
gives away his account believing that valve are investigating his account.
Since this guy seems to me to be "professional" in his work I wanted to alert
you all.

I don't understand "ics" anger at me for letting him know about this hacker
although this is the wrong mailing list, nobody wants someone to steal his

I've found that the order in which you start up the HL1 and HL2 servers is

extremely important, depending especially on how you specify ports in the

launch properties.

1. It's always important to launch servers with the target port in the

launch properties, although on an all SRCDS servers they will auto search

for a free port if one is taken, it's still best to make sure that they all

launch on their intended port (keeps your regulars a lot happier too).

2. Start all servers in incrementing port sequence (this seems to help keep

things clean).

3. Never start all servers at once, always start servers 30 to 60 seconds

apart, at the very minimum wait until they successfully log onto the steam

servers.

4. all servers should have unique -sport specified (VAC port) - you can skip

specifying this you only run HL2 servers but if you mix and match it's very

important to specify them.

5. make sure for SRCDS servers that the port is open for TCP as well as UDP

in the firewall/router if you want RCON to work

6. Ideally, all HLDS services must be restarted at least once before you

start a server on the next port ... don't ask me why but all HLDS servers

that haven't been restarted at least once are sure to act strangely and

starting the next server when the previous one hasn't been restarted may

well also start acting weird.

This is one setup I find work the best for me:

a. SRCDS on port 27015 should be started first with -port 27015 -sport 26902

in the launch properties

b. HLDS on port 27016 should be started second with -port 27016 -sport

26904 in the launch properties

On my linux server, If I start HLDS first, then one or more SRCDS processes

this seems to work ok without specifying the -sport, but if I start an SRCDS

and then an HLDS server, HLDS gets very confused and will act weird.

I mostly believe that the problem here is SRCDS will look for ports it needs

and if they are not available it will automatically try the next in

sequence, but HLDS is not able to search at all and instead of complaining

that it's unable to acquire a needed port it just stalls there.

Just a last gotcha note, if you have to shut down the HLDS server and

restart it (or it crashes, etc) you may find that weirdness will return when

it restarts again in a system with SRCDS servers already running.

Specifying both ports appears to help this, but the HLDS server must be

restarted at least once to get it clean.

(By restart I mean in HLDS issuing the "restart" command or any changelevel

)

Thanks, just a few thing.. How do I send the restart command to the server with
my startup script?

And you post -port isn't it +port for srcds?

Are there any known issues to run HLDS and SRCDS at the same server? I have
bought a "super server" capable of running many servers, but I have met some
errors along the way. It seems that the SRCDS interfere with the Steam
Validation for hlds? Sometimes the hlds servers can't validate steamids and
all the new players get steamid pending.

And for the source servers.. they just get offline and no error message is
printed to the console for the server.

I have learned that SRCDS uses port 27020 -> for source TV and that's why I
run hlds on port 27015-27019 and SRCDS on ports 27035->

The server has extern IP and all ports that HLDS and VAC need are opened up.
Maybe get another IP to the server and run hlds on eth0 and srcds on eth0:1
?

Anyone?

You may want to force the ports
+port
-sport
+tv_port

Eg +port 27015 -sport 27016

For source add something like +tv_port 27017

So for a second server you may do
+port 27020 -sport 27021 and if its source +tv_port 27022

See if that helps.

Hi:
One week ago i have been testing cstrike 1.6 on my new server. With
stock kernel 2.6.18(250Hz) i get only 80-200 fps. I tried a custom
kernel with 1000Hz but i get 20-500 fps with an empty server. I have
better fps with a p4(350 stbale empty, 150-350 full).

fps on a empty server(core 2 duo)

CPU In Out Uptime Users FPS Players

My specs are
Debian 4.0 etch

P4 is more stable than core 2 duo. Why?

Any advice?

I would roll back to an earlier version of amxmodx and confirm that you are
using the latest version of metamod.\

Go into your server console and run these commands

meta list

amxx list

and post the results

RE: [hlds_linux] STEAM_ID_PENDING

2007-04-20 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
I have only eth0 installed, but I installed a new eth just now.. But can it
really be the network card? The servers don't go offline, I have contact with
it always, its just the steam auth that fails.

I should look after thouse things that should have been right from
beginning.. a pure and simple misstake in network settings ..
Check so all networkinterfaces settings is correct. - dont ignore anything -
check them all.
I guess that you have 2 eth. and check if its the same if you use the second
one ..

Thanks for the link. I've opened up for all ports to the IP address and
still no luck. Let me explain the problem one more time a little deeper
after a little research my self...

I host Counter-strike servers for a company in Norway and we have no problem
to set up a fully functional server. But after the new "super server"
arrived the problem occurred.

My server specc:
Dual Xeon QuadCore 1600mhZ
5GIG DDR2 REG

OS:
Linux Debian Etch with kernel 2.6.20.7 kompiled at 1000hz.

"cs12:/home/cs# linuxinfo; uname -a
Linux cs12 2.6.20.7-default3 #1 SMP Wed Apr 18 14:09:33 CEST 2007
Eight Intel Unknown 1596MHz processors, 25533.51 total bogomips, 5069M RAM
System library 2.3.6
Linux cs12 2.6.20.7-default3 #1 SMP Wed Apr 18 14:09:33 CEST 2007 i686
GNU/Linux"

Everything looks good so far...

The server runs multiple Counter-strike and source servers (the problem
occurs with only one server as well), and when I start the servers they are
running fine. It says that it has established connection to steam and they
are secure. But after a while when new people are connecting they can't
validate there Steam_id anymore, and all new players has the
STEAM_ID_PENDING status. As for my Source servers on this box they just get
offline, I figured that this was because of the same problem?

I run the hlds_i686 binary. (hlds_run autodetect uses that bin).
As mention earlier I have opened up for every port TCP and UDP to the server
IP address.

Well, for starters Valve has announced that they will not work on 64bit
support, so a clean 32bit enviroment will be best. Also if you intend to use
100ticks you have to compile the cpu timer freq to 1000hz.

Hi guys

I figured you would be the best to ask.

I'm trying to help a friend get their Linux Box into shape for the SRCDS
servers they are running on it.

Problem is, I know next to nothing about Linux, so even if I searched for a
guide on how to setup Linux OS for SRCDS, I have no way of evaluating the
usefulness of the information.

I do know a fair bit about SRCDS though, problem is, the person who looks
after the box is a Linux guru who doesn't know anything about SRCDS, and
since I know nothing about Linux, I'm not much help in telling him all the
little in's and out's of setting up a Linux box for SRCDS.

In any case, are there any guides on how to setup Linux for SRCDS,
particuarly paying attention to specific kernel versions + settings and
CPU/MB types and matching them correctly to maxmise SRCDS performance?

Thanks

I had very high usage when I tested on a linux distro and in my case I
believe it was because I had enabled SELinux. Did you by chance install and
enable this?

I don't know if anyone else saw this behavior but I did in my short couple
months of testing. I brought the system home and tested it without
installing SELinux and it seemed infinetly better. But I put Win2003 on
instead and sent my system back to the datacenter. So I can't tell you
absolutely if this was my problem or not but I think it was.

I don't belive that I have SELinux installed, because I have never heard about
it before :)

Im testing the i386 linux now to see if this is better.

RE: [hlds_linux] CPU Usage

2007-02-07 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
I have a dual xeon 2,4ghz server, and compiled the new 2.6.20 debian kernel
@1000hZ, but when I run a srcds server at 100ticks the CPU consumes 100% with
10ppl.

Witch CPU family does this CPU belong? I used the i686, but I see that I also
can use i486? Can this be the problem?

I installed this; Pentium-4/Celeron(P4-based)/Pentium-4 M/older Xeon

I can also choose 2core/newer Xeon, but the make fails when I use this. Any
suggestions?

2007-02-07 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
Install the scedtools package
and then just start your processes like this:

taskset -c 0 ./startcommand

Where do i find the "scedtools package" ? Tried apt-cache search and google.
Cant find it.

RE: [hlds_linux] Fluctuating Server FPS, but low CPU usage

2007-01-31 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
I am using Opteron64 DualCore for socket 939, with Debian64 kernel 2.6.19 @
1000hz, also using the hlds_amd64, a full 10slots server with pingboost 2
enabled consumes about 1-4% CPU with a peak of 8% (mapchange etc). The server
is running at 1000fps, but drops down to 500fps some times.

When using the hlds_amd binary the CPU consumes about 30% more.

I'm running HLDS, with 1000HZ and AMD X2 processors. System is Debian
64Bit and I'm using the old hlds_amd64 binary (better performance, no
need for VAC2). Kernel is own compiled. I've always had 500FPS since
2.6.14, but I'm having very big performance issues with never kernel's
than 2.6.16. But like I've always said, don't fix if it ain't broken.

[hlds_linux] 64bit OS running 32bit scrds

2007-01-29 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
I have debian64 bit installed, and ia32-libs.. When Valve stopped to update the
64bit binary, I was woundering.. Is it better to go back to 32bit OS? This may
consume less CPU since I don't have to use the IA32 libs?

Or is this nothing to think about?

Hi

My experience is that, if you run 64bit OS and 32bit binary, the
operating system will emulate the program, and it decreases performance
and consumes more CPU. I have AMD64 debian installations, and if I run
hlds_amd binary (the 32bit one) the server FPS is only ~200-300 and it
consumes ~3-5% CPU at IDLE, and with 10 players about 20%...

With the outdated hlds_amd64 binary the FPS is constantly 500 and the
server consumes about ~5-8% CPU with 10 players. I suggest that if you
want to run the updated 32bit binary, you're better have pure 32bit OS.

The outdated hlds_amd64 binary is IMO better and the hitreg is perfect.
I don't care how outdated it is, becauce the fact is that it performs
much better than the 32bit installation, and consumes less CPU.

I'll update to the 32bit installation only when the 64bit binary wont
work anymore.

REMEMBER: don't fix it if it ain't broken..

And btw, the hlds_run script doesn't autodetect 64bit processors
anymore, because valve has changed the script to run only with hlds_amd
binary (even if you have 64bit processor). And why is this? Because the
64bit binary is very old, and they don't update it anymore. But it still
works fine.

2007-01-22 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
Thanks a lot for the headsup.. But it scares me that Valve wont update the
64bit binary.. :S

It works so well, doesn't consume any CPU at all compared to the 32bit..

Can anyone answer why this is not on the schedule?

hlds_amd64 is for 64-bit operation, whereas hlds_amd is for 32-bit

This command is only for HLDS

Anything to do with SRCDS, I more than adequately covered, not that anybody
pays attention. Perhaps I need 48 point font.

You can set the tickrate in your start command.
So they cant change it.

-console -game cstrike -secure +map de_dust -autoupdate +log off
+maxplayers 12 -port 27015 +ip
82.103.135.65 +exec server_setup.cfg -tickrate 100

Hiya, I'm guessing if you want to do multiple words as the command you maybe
need to quote them like...

screen -S hl_27501 -X -p0 eval "stuff 'changelevel de_dust'^m" //the
addition of the ' ' if its hard to see, can't test it here properly atm.

Now I find the screen, it looks ok, but the commands wont show on the server,
for instance, I have tried:

screen -S hl_27023 -X -p0 eval "stuff changelevel de_dust2^m"

New line come, but the server wont changemap.. :)

Hiya, don't use screen names that are numbers only :).

use hl_27015 or something, otherwise I'm guessing its looking for the pid.

RE: [hlds_linux] Rcon commands via bash scripts

2006-12-06 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
I am using multiple screens, so I should look like this;?

#!/usr/bin/expect -f
set timeout 1
spawn /usr/bin/screen -d -r -S
match_max 10
send -- "rcon say \"You have only one hour left\"\r"
expect eof

where do I put the -r ?

You can always use expect. Assuming you are using screen:

->8-
#!/usr/bin/expect -f
set timeout 1
spawn /usr/bin/screen -d -r
match_max 10
send -- "rcon say \"You have only one hour left\"\r"
expect eof
-->8

Create executable file containing text above and set executable bit.

With:

set usethis [lindex $argv 0]
send -- "rcon kick $usethis\r"

you may even use commandline parameters to.

One more thing; I assume that you run only one screen session and force it to
detach if already attached. You can always identify proper one by spawning
screen using -S unique_name and reattaching it -r unique_name

Hiya, assuming something like screen -Sdm hl_server1 ./hlds_run to
kick off server.

screen -S hl_server1 -X -p0 eval "stuff status^m"(basically status is
the command, swap that with other commands, but leave stuff & ^m in there.
(you may be able to get rid of -p0 on some installs I think, while since
I've checked syntax)

Btw, alternately I think there may be some php rcon classes, but don't have
a link at hand.

For some reason the servers came back on their own. They are now
pingable through hlsw and steam server favorites.

Very odd.

[hlds_linux] Server wont show in steam

2005-08-16 Thread Andreas Kang Schøyen
When I add my servers IP in steam og hlsw it appears, but it wont appear on the
steam list of servers without adding IP. That way noone can see the server and
my public server is empty,

My server is updated, and runs csadmin, metamod and amxmodx.

Is there a port that needs to be opened up exept for 27015 in order to get
listed in steams list of servers?
