Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead Update Released

2009-10-10 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
I agree on that, not to mention that if a map is updated by the author,
people have to redownload the "newer" map if there is a difference.

I rather host the maps myself so I don't have that issue, map authors would
want that too I presume (saves them bandwith they don't have)

[hlds_linux] MRTG graphs? (TF2)

2009-09-07 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
All,

I am having some hickups now and then, and since I cant always be online I
wanted to use mrtg to check the fps on the server. (unless there are other
suggestions)

I found one site,
http://www.zokahn.nl/staticpages/index.php?page=HOWTO-CS-Graph but this one
is down (also posted on the mailing list some time ago) the referring page
is
http://blog.durdle.com/archives/2007/12/04/graphing-counter-strike-source-fp
susers-in-mrtg-on-windows/

One would think it's the same sort for TF2, but i don't know.

Any pointers would be nice,

Regards,
Eric

Indeed, soldier cant jump anymore normally.

Bring some skill back in the game would be nice too, just take out your

I run 6 forks, l4d.. had to restart all of them "defunct"

Some days ago, I had 2 defunct, had to restart too. Started after the update

Could be we have a sourcemod plugin which is giving issues, but if yours is

Yep, same here. I have script that connects to the consoles to get user

the hlds. And yes, I think I started experiencing this around the exact

Thanks all for your suggestions, but when a customer restarts the
server from his panel, the command line executes automatically the
right slot count. Which is why I don't understand how he does it and
makes me wonder if it has something to do with the autoupdate commande

There's documentation for the mentioned shutdown (over netcon) command
around somewhere, definitely in the list archives. Search for
netcon/netconport or things like that if no one else provides a link.

Clients don't get a choice about updating and can't roll back.

Re: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2 Update Available

Would be nice if the sandman could -NOT- stop a uber, the whole point of the
name "uber" is not correct now anymore.

Especially with maps like Egypt where its "engie" time in some maps, if you
get the chance to go past the 3 sentry's and you get hit by a ball its game
over. (not to mention the airblast of a pyro, but that has more logic)

Onderwerp: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2 Update Available

A required update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive it. The specific changes include:

Gameplay changes:
 - Added a duck timer that prevents duck spamming while running around
on-ground.
 - In-air, players are only allowed to duck once before they touch ground
again.
 - Fixed several bounding box issues with jumping, falling, and rocket jump
air-walking. Bounding box should be much more accurate there now.
 - Increased backstab check so that Spies can side-stab again.
 - When disguising, Spies now always start showing the primary weapon in
their disguise, and can then switch it with the last-disguise key.

TF2 Fixes:
 - Fixed flamethrower loophole that resulted in the flame effect being stuck
on while the flamethrower wasn't really firing.
 - Fixed exploit that allowed players to circumvent the force-fire timeout
on the pipebomb launcher.
 - Fixed a bug that caused Natasha's slow on hit effect to be inverted from
75% to 25%.
 - Restored sawmill_logs.mdl file, fixing some user maps that used it.
 - Fixed some localization issues with Scout achievement strings.
 - Removed the "Final" phrasing in the map loading screen.

Engine fixes:
 - Fixed a server crash on startup under Linux.
 - Fixed a buffer overflow issue related to network string tables.
 - Gamestats uploading is now done asynchronously. This fixes the client
timeout issues on map changes.

CP_Junction:
 - Fixed an exploit where engineers could build a teleporter exit in an
invalid area.
 - Fixed a few bad overlay assignments and other minor issues.

Same when you have a uber and your medic.. I feel a shot from a scout and
I'am almost dead.. I push the button that very same second and I know I
pushed it 100% and I still get the second hit from the scout and I die.
(also lag/spike/whatever)
Don’t think valve can fix that, since there is latency to take into account
even though I have 5ms ping towards my server.

To be fair, the pyro used to have a rocketlauncher, that also added
firedamage when it hit enemies. Be glad it has been taken out :)

[hlds_linux] some thoughts (tf2)

2009-02-27 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
All,

Just a thought, whats your "feeling" about the current sniper at this
moment?

I've watched the progress for some time and I noticed a increased amount of
headshot/sniper kills.
This is basicly because the sniper also has the crosshair "zoomed out" ..

Combine that with http://www.fpsbanana.com/scripting/4338

Which does a quick zoom and shot so you can make more damage (it seems)

I don't complain about snipers having a crosshair but I can see them having
a bigger advantage with it (they do more damage now to the opponent then
when they have the normal gun out at close range)

Do you guys/girls see this as a problem or do you "applaud" the crosshair
for the sniper?

Regards,

Eric

Hi,

Today in my forum I saw a post from a league and they linked it to they
"steam community group". I click on it because i saw that the link was
OK (steamcommunity.com) but in firefox I have the fireflag plugin that
shows the flag of where is located the web server, and that page was in
Italy, but was too late because I already entered my steam data. I
checked again the page slowly and it was http://steamcommuniLy.com. Can

Well i just see that they erased the parts about removing the lists from

So they do actually listen, hurray! Thumbs up.

Where did we stop, ow yes.. the timeout issue. I know they where working on
it (as they said on the last update in 1 of the last lines, this does not
fix the timeout bug) so they are aware.

Sorry to bring up yet another pain -- but I have been trying to get the
sv_search_key to work - and have never been successful so maybe someone
could point out what I am doing wrong.

I start L4D via the following command line:

srcds_run -console -game left4dead +map l4d_vs_hospital01_apartment +ip
x.x.x.x +sv_search_key "ninjaturtles"

I am using the following config file (in the cfg folder - server.cfg):

rcon_password ""
hostname "EGS Left4Dead Server"

//allow non-lobby people to join
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0

//Let people know they can join ANY time!
sv_tags "Server Browser Join Enabled"

//omg hard!
z_difficulty hard

sv_steamgroup x
sv_steamgroup_exclusive 1

sv_search_key "ninjaturtles"

So then when I make a lobby I issue sv_search_key "ninjaturtles" in the
console, and I attempt to start the game, and I never can find a server :(

Any help would be appreciated - this lobby system has given me far too many
headaches!

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D: Is there a hunter exploit out there?

2009-01-06 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
Dont know if it's a bug..

- blood harvest, the tunnel. Once you open the door and the zombies come,
just walk out straight till the end. You almost get 0 zombies (since there
all running to the other spot) and it wont spawn new ones since there is a
bunch walking behind you (I think) anyway its dead easy that way.

Onderwerp: Re: [hlds_linux] L4D: Is there a hunter exploit out there?

Yeah the melee is scriptable. The animation can be cancelled and
another melee can be triggered right after first hit. This ruins the
game especially in versus. Let me fill some up some more bugs for you
since we got started here. Maybe Valve will fix these sooner.

-Elevator on No Mercy can be skipped by breaking up that door there
which can be opened only from 1 side.
-You can stay behind the no mercy finale building ledge and not
getting any damage. If staying on 1 certain spot, not even tank can
get you.
- No mercy finale, you can also load up the machinegun and get back on
the building with ladders up. Thats no challenge after that.
-On death toll, you can use the mounted machine gun as a cannon to
skip the fight event OR climb up next to lift over the obstacle
(harder).
-Death toll finale has 3 rocks where zombies wont practically go and
tanks fade away.
-Dead air crane part is skippable by jumping over the fence to the other
side.
-Right after crane you can skip the office building by going left and
walk down to a tree (no jumping) and then just run to the saferoom.
-Dead air has also skippable gas can zombie fight part. You can jump
on the railing and after that left over the electrical thing, then
over the exploding obstacle.
-Dead air you can jump on the plane with the mounted machinegun. Its
like standing there and only watching over for smokers. None of the
other enemies are a problem.

Summary: 3/4 finales are easy peasy, no need to even "fight" your way
through. Multiple zombie fights are skippable. Thats it. I may have
forgotten some but oh well. ALL these are out there open and widely
used. Kinda ruins the game for some people and makes it easy to get
certain achievements.

Even though its set to a vs map in the command line and only vs maps are
in the mapcycle, for some reason when we end a campaign, the server
changes to the coop no mercy campaign, and we have to restart or do a
changelevel. How do I keep this from happening?

This is a group server, that most of us just join directly because we
want pubbers to be able to fill the gaps.

I looked through the archives, and couldn't find much on this subject.

Re: [hlds_linux] sv_search_key not working

2008-12-27 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
I use both, i've set a sv_search_key and use the force dedicated. This way I
know it wont show up in the matchmaking system since I use it as my private.
Too much times when you select one via the lobby you end up on a server
which is hosted by a person himself (laggy and such)

But for instance I tried it yesterday with forced server, it did work but my
server only responded after say 45 seconds.. which is a bit odd.

I've never had any problems with ms_force_dedicated_server, and I've
been using it quite a bit. The only thing is that whatever difficulty
we select in the lobby isn't respected. It always start at normal. And
no, I do not change z_difficulty to normal in the config.cfg on the

Re: [hlds_linux] sv_search_key not working

2008-12-27 Thread Eric-Jan Riemers
I once saw the tip..

Put this in console "sv_cheats 1;ms_force_dedicated_server
213.206.x.x:27030"

Since my sv_search_key does not always work for some odd reason..
However as of the latest update sometimes the force dedicated doesn't work
either, then I just start my server up again (or a second one, or hand the
string to someone else) and then it works. So its not all flawless.

You have to have your own server for this, but besides this all, you already
need too since you want to kick the person that went into your team with a
new level so your buddy can join again :P

I had them in the left4dead root. But they have to go in the cfg folder

Yet when I start a lobby and search for a server it doesn't find any.
Is there anything I am missing about this feature?

Isn't pipes.cpp sourcemod or something similar related? Then it is not a
valve issue..

And from pipes.cpp I cannot really tell what game you are referring too (I
think those things are usefull to mention)

This just happened to me a few times now also.. only thing you can do ingame
is kick a player of the other side and ask your buddy to join your side once
kicked. (but ofcourse this is not a preferred way)

Yea sorry, in L4D. The mp_autoteambalance option is missing but it still
switches up teams from time to time.

Its not steamgroup exclusive, and it worked like a charm before the last
update.

Also to Anakin, the server was empty for about 1 hour.. before I tried
again, and that didn't seem to help.

Do you have sv_steamgroup_exclusive set to 1? Setting that to one
nulls out the key (at least it did prior to the last update, haven't
tried it since).

I use sv_search_key and sv_steamgroup, but I leave
sv_steamgroup_exclusive set to 0.

This is not a bug.

You can only join your server from a lobby if your server is empty.

Dont know if its just my bad luck..

But when I make a game in the lobby, with local friends (country wise) I can
use sv_search_key to select my server, once its open for public and other
people join (I believer other country's too) it wont find my server anymore.

Anyone experiences the same after the last update?

That's cause you're not specifying a file called server##.cfg, you're
specifying a file called ##.cfg in a directory called server.

After yesterday's TF2 update, my main server is horribly unstable and
crashes or freezes/becomes unresponsive every 15-30 minutes.

Additionally, players are reporting being stuck in spectator mode,
unable to join unless they reconnect. I noticed another email on this
list from someone reporting issues with misattributed kills involving
spectators.

Anyone else experiencing problems with the latest patch?

All,

The update also did a newer version of srcds_run..

However this one still does not autoupdate correctly. Do we still need to
use the workaround or is this under investigation at valve that anyone
knows? (the "./steam cannot be found" issue for being a directory lower)
