Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
Can the kernel hz / tick freq have anything to do with this ? It seems that when tuned to the standard 100 hz it works fine, however when above 200~ , it starts causing problems. I was thinking along the lines of device polling however it is not compiled into the kernel. As for the actual linux emulation, anyone think it may be related. That wont work as it requires additional kernel dependencies. tbh I've only ever had issues with the update tool when I'd had a bad install. Deleting the entire dir has always fixed it. Out of interest what's the backtrace. N.B. to get a full backtrace you will need to symlink the required libs from /usr/compat/linux/lib to /lib. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
I'll get that in a bit, not in access of the box, however is there anything else that may be causing this, because on a single box, when I had it formatted as said previously, the only thing that changed was the OS was reinstalled, and it started giving me this error, it was flawless on the same version of BSD. About the only thing I dod notice was the fact that HT was on (BIOS) however with a p1 kernel, machdep.hyperthreading_allowed was not present, may the HT be affecting this ??? Solution Found - Confirmed: FreeBSD 5.4 p1 - the htt patch is a mess, and with analysis by my devs they have determined it as the cause of every problem, one of them will be creating a reverse p1 patch, to apply every time after a full cvsup, I expect this problem will remain existant in 6.0 and in all later releases of freeBSD, I will post further details a little later. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
this is an strace built on freebsd, out of the freebsd ports. I bet its something to do with the HT / CPU cycle rate / NIC polling , if you can recall realtek polling problems, (even thouigh these are Intel NICs). I had a dev look at this, he has no idea what it may be, however a lot of things are pointing at the board because everything else is identical, inside out. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
The update tool gets its own latest version, everything is fine with the linux base, oh and I have a quick question for Alfred or whoever may know this, when someone rcon quit 's the server in HLDS, it seems to use a different method than SRCDS, because the script does in fact function on HLDS in FreeBSD, verses SRCDS which doesn't. And I am in the process of getting new boards shipped , if this in fact solves the problem, I'll post both boards so we can go through and figure it out. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
all Asus board servers are doing this, intel board servers _are_ not doing this. Chipsets and specifications of these boards are identical, and the Asus boards have intel chipsets, however they are the ones this fails on, with or without HT. Wasn't there a kernel bug in FreeBSD's linux emulation layer that broke the update tool? Re: [hlds_linux] Steam Update Tool - Core Dump?
You tried all that and didnt occur to you its probably a FreeBSD bug? I still say strace the process and find out what the heck is going on. It might just be a kernel param you can change. -sb On 6/7/05, e-Plutonia [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Alfred, I tried suse, debian, rh8 , rh9, all of them in a row, I am severely pissed right now at my boxes.
