it's all work in progress, no claim to be complete. Still being adapted from

My account is really someth...@users.sf.net, not
@users.sourceforge.net, but if I just use "@users.sf.net" (without
anything in front of the @), it does not find me. Ah, you know, it's
not that much of a problem. I know how to work around the issue, which
is by finding my own bug report.

Hehheh. Indeed :)

What wiki instructions? I refer to your posting here. You write "Log on
to the [https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin Hugin bug tracker]."

This could indeed indicate that I need a launchpad account, however, it
was not stated explicitly. If it is self-evident nowadays to have a
launchpad account I beg your pardon that I'm out of date.

If you have a wiki article discribing all this in more detail, please

you need to be logged on as an "LP person" to claim a "non LP person" account.
Else LP does not know into which account to merge the non-account data.

If this was not clear enough from my wiki instructions, please update them.

Of course not. I wanted to claim my SF account. I thought this means
that my SF account data is automatically transferred to LP and I simply

i-root-42 (which I guess was generated by the import process and the i stands
for import)

I get blablabla into the reporter field as well, and I see the error you mean.

My guess is that the error message means that there is no LP account by that
name. When browsing the tracker you can see the difference between the name of
an LP account and an imported name in the (subtle) difference of the icon next
to the name: in full color for LP accounts and grayed out for imported "non-
persons".

I have not been even able to find you. If this bugs you, you can file a bug
report with LP, but for that you'll need an account :)

Ok, I'll clarify.

1. go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin
2. enter "advanced search"
3. click "choose" next to the "reporter" field
4. enter SF handle, e.g. "blabla...@users.sf.net"
5. click the search icon
6. select the appropriate result by clicking it (if any)
7. the "reporter" field is now filled with a value, e.g. "blablabla"
8. now, hit the search button (or enter in any field)

You'd expect some results to show up, of maybe nothing at all, but I
got this error below the "reporter" field:
"There's no person with the name or email address 'blablabla'."

So, first it finds me, than it doesn't find me. This is not expected
behavior, is it? Or is it the result of the Hugin import from SF,
where handles are only partly copied? It reeks of a bug to me.

yes. I know from other sources that they are reviewing their whole sign-up /
log-on architecture. Since it is critical they don't want to make mistakes.

Think for example of a spammer setting up an OpenID provider (plain simple,
takes less than 10 minutes) and using it to generate tons of spam-accounts.

They are experimenting with things and collecting data / observations of how
users interact. With such a large platform, they can't be as nimble as they
would like to.

> As long as I don't need the account, I'll wait

Waiting is fine. You'll need an account if you want to use the tracker,
including voting for that issue to get fixed by hitting the "this bug affects
me too" button ;-)

Well, strictly speaking, the Hugin PPA team (binary builders, not to be
confused with the development team, even if some people may be part of both)
is using Launchpad and its build infrastructure (Soyuz) to build packages for
Ubuntu Linux. This is currently unfinished / incomplete job.

There is a feature of that infrastructure which I would like to tap to produce
"nightlies". When everything works as advertised, LP can import the latest
code from external repositories. Provided with a "recipe" it can bake
binaries automatically. Think of it as on-demand builds of the bleeding edge.
No manual intervention. RAWstudio makes use of it and I get my nightlies as
regular as the commit mails from heir (self hosted) SVN repo.

I have two objectives for the Hugin PPA:
1. provide subscribers with the latest stable releases for all currently
supported versions of Ubuntu;
2. and with the latest bleeding edge nightlies.

Currently (1) is only partially implemented thanks to Philipp Seidel.
Although there is a report that dependencies have not been specified too well
in the packages; and only Lucid and Maverick are currently supported.

The nightly requires the import from external SCM to work. I've never seen an
import of a Mercurial repo working and recently the SVN import broke. You
can see the status of that bug at [0]. Once it is fixed, I'll look at writing
the "recipe" for making use of it to produce binaries on a regular basis.

Lukas suggested also that we have a look at the OpenSuse build infrastructure.
They may have something similar. Anybody familiar with OpenSuse here cares to
look?

see, I am not an advanced user :-) I stuck with the simple search on the main
page. Will add the advanced search hint to the instructions.

not sure that I understand your description, but it sounds more like a
misunderstanding than a Bug. LP has an icon next to the user / account name.
Is it grayed out? "no account using this name" means no *LP* account using
this name. The moment you'll claim this as your account, the icon will be
colored and there will be an LP account using this name (or this name will be
gone and will be merged with the name of the LP account you've merged into).

I think the reason why searching for reporter does not work is because it
search for an LP handle, not for an SF handle, and the imported SF
"personalities" probably have some cryptic string as handle (which is
different from the visible name) to avoid duplicates.

It's really a shame that Launchpad only implements the "provider" part
of the OpenID protocol, and not the "consumer" (relying party) part.
As long as I don't need the account, I'll wait for a reply to the
