The package is staged in the SMPNTS and then unwound (pax) in the receive frommnetwork process, so a drop during the initial transfer from the IBM server doesn't affect the zones. From the fine manual: 14.4.3 Restarting RECEIVE FROMNETWORK If errors occur during the transfer of files for a package, it may be necessary to restart the RECEIVE FROMNETWORK operation in order to complete the transfer of the entire package. You can simply rerun the RECEIVE FROMNETWORK command, and SMP/E will determine which files have already been transferred successfully, and which files need to be transferred again or have not yet been transferred. Before transferring a file, RECEIVE processing checks to see if the file already exists in the package directory of the SMPNTS. If it does, the hash value for the existing file is calculated and compared to the hash value supplied in the package attribute file. If they match, the file is used as it exists in the package directory and is not transferred again. If the hash value of the existing file does not match the value supplied in the package attribute file, the file is transferred from the FTP server and replaces the existing file in the package directory. -- Mark Zelden - Zelden Consulting Services - z/OS, OS/390 and MVS mailto:m...@mzelden.com Mark's MVS Utilities: http://www.mzelden.com/mvsutil.html Systems Programming expert at http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com/ -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Re: RSU Order using Shop zSeries Website
Dropping a connection during RFN is not a problem. SMPE is very good about resuming an interrupted download. The sample JCL provided is a start. However, there are two issues that you must deal with outside of any specific job content. 1. Your job must be able to reach Shopz over the network. That's a mainframe connection. Watch for proxy and firewall issues. Some companies decree that this cannot be done. In other cases some reconfiguration might be required. If you can FTP doc to IBM directly in a mainframe batch job, you will probably be OK. 2. You have to set up a key and keyring in your security product. If you use a third party security product (i.e. not RACF), I can't help you. Otherwise the procedure is fairly well documented. I've done it several times. Still don't understand a bit of it. ;-( . . Re: RSU Order using Shop zSeries Website
Hi Saurabh, I suggest that you have a look at using the consolodated inventory report. There are instructions and JCL on the Shopz site for it. Run the report, and upload it to Shopz. So, first sign in to Shopz, create new order, select service, RSU service, continue, select what RSU maint you want (individual products, FMIDs, all installed products, or all licensed products), continue. On the screen Step 2 of 5 Report installed software, on the right side there is a box with a link - Tip - Learn how to create installed software reports. Click that link and it should give you all you need to cerate and use the report. My guess is that Shopz is enforcing the size limit on the download package size so that you don't run into a prolem I hit in July. I downloaded a RSU order that was 7.3GB. The download worked fine, but JAVA could not handle a package that big . I opened a PMR and IBM posted an informational APAR II14233 on July 15, 2011. Fix is still not available. I ordered tape. If you really want electronic delivery, I suggest that you order RSU for one or two of your large products separately. Put that on, run and upload another report, and try your RSU order again. Personally, I would just order tape. Hope that helps, Linda - Original Message - From: saurabh khandelwal sourabhkhandelwal...@gmail.com To: IBM-MAIN@bama.ua.edu Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2011 2:02:13 AM Subject: Re: RSU Order using Shop zSeries Website Hello Gerry, But I dont see the option to select older RSU level. I think a lot of us are saying, Aha. R12 fully supports RECEIVEFROMNETWORK, a far superior means of pulling maintenance. RFN sends a bit map of your CSI to Shopz so that he can selectively send you only the fixes that you do not already have on your system. I had numerous problems with IBM.COM yesterday. I was searching for information on the products added to SCRT V18 and could not find them. For example 5655-V60 is WebSphere Message Broker for z/OS V71 (actually only V7, not 71) and the only hit on IBM.COM is the SCRT What's New Page. Fortunately a google search was able to find the announcement letter so I could gather the other information I need. I've always been able to find announcement letters via the IBM search box. BTW: I downloaded XML Toolkit. Approx. 650MB. First step was to unpax it into HFS files - at least another 650MB. Then GIMUNZIP it into MVS datasets. Another 650MB! Then perform SMP/E RECEIVE - from MVS datasets on dasd to SMP/E relfiles - that means another MVS datasets on DASD. So, you need *FOUR TIMES* more than package size (assuming no compression and no deletes during the process). Because UNIX is simpler, easier to use, and allowed implementation of the function with only base z/OS software. I was not privy to the design considerations, but I imagine the designers wanted an archive scheme that was available with base z/OS; and could be used with a non-z/OS-peculiar server. Compression is also desirable. What are the options?: o TSO TRANSMIT? Widely used, but requires TSO TMP. I suppose a requirement to run SMP/E under TSO or vice-versa was unattractive. And the format is not compressed, but quite the opposite with a high overhead. o AMATERSE? Not in base z/OS at the time the facility was developed. o ADRDSSU? Don't know. Is it Internet-friendly? And I lately discovered that there's a rule that to unpack an ADRDSSU archive the user must have read access in the profile governing the original data set name, even when unpacking to a different name; a clear impediment to portability. I understand the rationale for this rule, but it could have been relaxed somewhat and still achieved its objective. I suppose the first scheme they found that met the criteria was the pax.Z format common in UNIX. But why didn't they abandon relative files and put everything inline with GIMDTS, compressed with GIMCPTS? -- gil -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

I'd conclude it was part of the original design philosophy of OS/360. Well, you couldn't have a PDS on a card reader. But such restrictions were rationally motivated. sequential file could be stand-alone or a member of a PDS. It could be on cards, tape, disk, drum, cell, display terminal/keyboard, and now file system. Nowadays, there are numerous unnecessary restrictions in both directions. Consider AMATERSE. AMATERSE won't accept a DD name referring to a UNIX file as its archive data set, notwithstanding that many customers promptly copy the Terse archive to a UNIX file (or Windows file) for transmission to tech support. And, why does ISPF require me to copy a UNIX file to a Legacy (sic!) data set in order to LMDEF that for input to LMCOPY? And I can cheat a UNIX directory as a member of my SYSEXEC concatenation, but not if it's the first catenand. Using Data Sets documents it; Rexx support says it's not supported. Where did we lose device independence? I understand that resource constraints may preclude DFSMS providing device drivers for all functions for all device types. I'm far less sympathetic to higher layers that don't perform conventional I/O (at least as a fallback) to devices that DFSMS supports. Why would compressing a file be that much different than compressing a dataset? Out-of-band record boundaries. AMATERSE knows how to deal with them; pax.Z doesn't. -- gil -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Strange, I could have sworn you were one of the vocal dissenters when IBM did away with JOBCAT and STEPCAT. Not all progress is in the forward direction. I find it a tad inconsistent that IBM provides a Linux for those who don't want to bother with z/OS but those of us who do must deal with Unix anyway. Just out of curiosity, which editor supports that syntax. I know ISPF would use c all Unix VSAM and I have a vague recollection of vi or some Unix editor using s/Unix/VSAM but I've never seen the two mixed before. -Original Message- From: Paul Gilmartin [mailto:snip] Sent: Monday, May 05, 2008 2:32 PM To: IBM-MAIN@BAMA.UA.EDU Subject: Re: Shop zSeries Ordering Issues One uses the most convenient tools available. c all /Unix/VSAM/ ... in your tirade and reset your clock a couple decades. See: Linkname: Requirements for a workstation, if used as an intermediate node URL: http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/EPD1UG14/3.3 Step B: - Disconnect the laptop from the Internet, carry it into the computer room, and connect it to the LAN there. - Start an FTP server on the laptop. - Use SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNETWORK to receive the package from the laptop. I've performed Step B for all the systems mentioned except Linux, for which I nonetheless have high confidence. And while we are on the subject, why does an internet download have to go to a Unix file? Is there some reason SMP/E couldn't handle a normal dataset? If I wanted a Unix system, I would have bought one. -- gil -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Lizette, I ran into this when I ordered 1.7, but I had uploaded a fresh (and complete) consolidated inventory report, so it just caused a minor delay and a phone call to get the process moving again. When I ordered 1.8 (just under the wire time wise), I had to order without a consolidated inventory report because my 1.7 wasn't installed yet. I did the same thing you did for a couple of products, also not realizing how painful that would be. Anyway, while I was a Share in Tampa, (Feb 07) this issue came up in one of the sessions. Apparently, there have been quite a few folks who have tried to slip in a few extra products, causing lots of upset too. After the first sign in page for Shop zSeries there is a link for My Licensed Software. You get the report immediately and it includes all the info you might need to verify with an invoice, including dates for all of the software that Shop zSeries has you licensed for. I have found that report most helpful in that if anything is not as it should be, it is much easier to correct before you do your Shop zSeries order. Depending on the products, you might not have to resubmit your order. My understanding is that dynamic activation products ship with every order, so you could turn then on later with the parmlib update. Have you tried internet delivery for your ServerPac? Linda, Yes my shop loves the internet process for serverpac. This came about because our z/OS V1.7 order was incorrectly created and somehow in that process IBM appears to have lost our license for PSF even though it is installed and properly licensed. I will definitely spend some time at the next SHARE I attend with the ShopzSeries group. I find their website is not idiot proof. Oops, just reread your post. My instructions are for receiving 'service'. I have no idea if the process for products is even close to the same. The methods are indeed the same for service and product orders. I don't have the specifics in front of me right now, but I believe on the Download page for the order (where you started download director) there is a link to some doc to explain the Store-and-Forward methods (store the order files on your workstation, then forward them to z/OS). However, I believe Greg's suggestion to use SMB (or NFS) to network mount the workstation files to z/OS is one of the better choices. Note that you can use the SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNTS command directly to process the order files this way and you don't need a separate GIMUNZIP job to unpack them. This should be explained in the referenced doc. Re: Shop Zseries
Since your not getting much I will try to help. When I get the email from IBM it takes me to a site that provides several links (looks something like the following): Download expires on 20 Feb 2007 Packing List for Service Order# View Now (0.045 MB) Service Overview for Order# View Now (0.092 MB) Install Instructions for Order# View Now (0.021 MB) Service Materials for Order# Download package (151 MB) directly to host using JCL job (0.008 MB) Download package (151 MB) directly to host using FTP (0.003 MB) Download to your workstation using IBM Download Director (151 MB) Download to your workstation using FTP Alternate - FTP to your workstation. Click here for details. Once I have the order downloaded (maintaining the names and directory structure from the IBM site) I make the order available to my z/OS system by copying it to an SMB mounted share in my z/OS HFS. On the web page I get, the last line says 'Alternate - FTP to your workstation' and it gives some other choices than SMB on how to make it available to your z/OS system. Pick one you like. I am pretty sure (but not positive) that the order must be placed in a UNIX file system. I seem to remember trying to figure out a way to do this with MVS data sets and gave up rather quickly (the SMB route was already established so I increased the size of the HFS and remounted it). I then use the job provided in the 'Install Instructions for Order# ' (see above as a 0.021 MB) to SMP/E receive the order by executing program GIMUNZIP (you have to change the mount point on the SMPDIR DD to the location in your HFS where you put the package and the directory structure must remain the same). Also, as is alway true in UNIX, size matters so watch the upper and lower case stuff. Here is the job I get when I select that link (minus comments and watch for line wrap): //UNZIPEXEC PGM=GIMUNZIP,PARM='HASH=NO' === NOTE 1 //SYSUT3 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(CYL, (50,10)) //SYSUT4 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(CYL, (25,5)) //SMPOUT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPDIR DD PATH='/u/smpe/smpnts/ORDPFX', === NOTE 2 // PATHDISP=KEEP //SYSINDD DATA,DLM=$$ GIMUNZIP ARCHDEF name=SMPPTFIN/S0001.SHOPZ.S7004159.SMPMCS.pax.Z volume=volser newname=hlq.S7004159.SMPMCS /ARCHDEF ARCHDEF name=SMPHOLD/S0002.SHOPZ.S7004159.SMPHOLD.pax.Z volume=volser newname=hlq.S7004159.SMPHOLD /ARCHDEF /GIMUNZIP $$ //REC EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,COND= (4,LT,UNZIP) //SMPCSI DD DISP=SHR, //DSN=your global csi data set name === NOTE 5 //SMPPTS DD DISP=OLD, //DSN=your SMPPTS data set name === NOTE 6 //SMPOUT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPRPT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPLIST DD SYSOUT=* //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPLOG DD SYSOUT=* //SMPLOGA DD DUMMY //SYSUT1 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1)),DISP= (,DELETE) //SYSUT2 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1)),DISP= (,DELETE) //SYSUT3 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1)),DISP= (,DELETE) //SYSUT4 DD UNIT=SYSALLDA,SPACE=(TRK,(2,1)),DISP= (,DELETE) //SMPCNTL DD DATA,DLM=$$ SETBOUNDARY (GLOBAL)
