Re: HMC Integrated console and JAVA
An update, and more weirdness. Alan Altmark posted an update to create a .java.policy that didn't appear to work for me. I had our CE upgrade the HMC microcode to Driver 22 and I still couldn't access the integrated console or operating system messages. One of our sysprogs who works remotely said everything was working for him with the .java.policy before and after the upgrade. He had Java 1,.8_33 installed. I decided to work on it from home. Using VPN, Java 1.8_40 and Driver 22 worked as expected. Back in the office it still doesn't work. I turned on the JAVA console and the result is JREInfo: unknown osArch: amd64, considering 32bit --- Stops at this line when in the office Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for: https://xx.xx.xx.xx/applets/ddsapplet-2.jar--- this appears from home JREInfo: unknown osArch: amd64, considering 32bit --- a few more lines like this and then success. Fortunately it works remotely which is when I really need it to work. Re: HMC Integrated console and JAVA
Thanks to those who suggested checking for pop-ups etc. None of that worked. After seeing the post about an open PMR where IBM acknowledged problems with JAVA 8 I uninstalled it and went back to JAVA7_21. Now my integrated console and operating system messages are available again. The system returns to the original configuration definition, unless a message is issued indicating that back-out failed. Configure the channel path offline to the partition(s) that are being deleted from the CHPID candidate list. If successful, retry the activate request. Only the first occurrence of a channel path being online for this reason is detected. Review other changes to ensure that the next ACTIVATE does not fail when the next occurrence is encountered. An unconditional delete of partition(s) from CHPID candidate list, by specifying FORCE=CANDIDATE on the ACTIVATE command or activate panel, could also be considered. Refer to the ACTIVATE command documentation for a description of the ramifications of specifying an unconditional delete of partition(s) from a CHPID candidate list. I'm assuming that I would get this same message for every CHPID in sequence if this first one were to be resolved. I really don't see how this makes sense since none of the four LPARs are IPLed. Re: SMP/E GIM69217I
This happens to me all the time. After applying maintenance to SMP/E you've updated the SMPCPATH dataset which has now got out of synch with the rest of SMPE. Verification of that checksum is mentioned in the Commands manual under FROMNETWORK, not under FROMNTS. We have DDDEF for SMPJHOME, not for SMPCPATH. The following scenarion comes to mind: I ordered 4 CPs due to money limits. In case of need I activated one CP of the 4 in the Order. Got the answer from IBM. With Automount, you can not have an automount controlled directory under another automount controlled directory. and You can mount to /u/wsbinds and in /u/cics you can put a symlink to /u/wsbinds. For example ln -s /u/wsbinds /u/cics/wsbinds That will let you reference the path /u/cics/wsbinds and be redirected to /u/wsbinds automatically. Re: Renaming an LPAR dynamically
Skip, I recall trying this once. When I converted the name to * it lost all the chpid/device info. I decided that the function was pretty useless (as far as renaming an lpar) is concerned. We have an LPAR whose name needs to change. Everything else in the IODF is fine, just a name problem. Current hardware and software. I changed the name in HCD. When I tried to ACTIVATE the new IODF, it choked on the name mismatch. I gather that I can first rename to '*', then rename for real in two successive IODFs. Re: CFRM Policy with new CPU
Create a CFRM policy with ALL your CFs defined, both existing and new. Change the PREFLIST to specify ALL the CFs. e.g. PREFLIST(NEW1,NEW2,OLD1,OLD2) Activate the policy. This the key step. Re: CFRM Policy with new CPU
Yes, you will need new names for the CFs. We just upgraded our processors and we had CF1 and CF2, In the new processors I defined CF3 and CF4 so we are now running with CFs named CF3 and CF4 only. Note though. In the IOCDS I named the NEW CF lpars CF1 and CF2 s so that in the CFRM policy CF3 runs in lpar CF1 etc. I'm thinking at some point I'll change the CFRM policy back to CF1 and CF2 to match the LPAR names. Yes - you need to make this change on your running system before you IPL the new system.
