Re: HMC Integrated console and JAVA

2015-04-06 Thread Alan Field
An update, and more weirdness.

Alan Altmark posted an update to create a .java.policy that didn't appear to
work for me.

I had our CE upgrade the HMC microcode to Driver 22 and I still couldn't access
the integrated console or operating system messages.

One of our sysprogs who works remotely said everything was working for him with
the .java.policy before and after the upgrade. He had Java 1,.8_33 installed.

I decided to work on it from home. Using VPN, Java 1.8_40 and Driver 22 worked
as expected.

Back in the office it still doesn't work. I turned on the JAVA console and the
result is

JREInfo: unknown osArch: amd64,
considering 32bit --- Stops at this line when in the office
Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for:
https://xx.xx.xx.xx/applets/ddsapplet-2.jar--- this appears from home
JREInfo: unknown osArch: amd64,
considering 32bit --- a few more lines like this and then success.

Fortunately it works remotely which is when I really need it to work.

Re: HMC Integrated console and JAVA

2015-03-17 Thread Alan Field
Thanks to those who suggested checking for pop-ups etc.

None of that worked.

After seeing the post about an open PMR where IBM acknowledged problems with
JAVA 8 I uninstalled it and went back to JAVA7_21.

Now my integrated console and operating system messages are available again.

Corrective action : Verify that the device exists for the logical partition

Is there a way to check if a device do exist ?

  Some of the reasons:
There is another console with IEA101A message awaiting your resonse.
IPL failed with some wait state message (you should ee it as HW message

IPL succeded without your intervention (IEA101A was supressed by
combination of IMSI and system LOAD/PARMLIB parameters).

Dear listeners,

I am trying to use IEBCOPY to copy a sequential data set to a
partitioned dataset. We are running z/OS V1R13. I looked in the DFSMSdfp
Utilities (SC26-7414-07).

I found Example 8: Loading a Data Set. However this example says the
sequential data set was created using an IEBCOPY unload operation.

I found Example 9: Unload Selected Members, Load, Copy and Merge.
However the sequential datasets are used as output.

   I tried C I=INDD1,O=OUTDD1 and S M=(DRSSKEY,KEYLRS). I would like
the flat file to be copied into two PDS members in the same dataset. If I
can get one member created that would be nice.

My problem may be IEBCOPY can't do that. My messages are:

   FCO105I C I=INDD1,O=OUTDD1
   FCO105I S M=(DRSSKEY,KEYLRS)
   FCO110I LOADING TO PDSE OUTDD=OUTD1 VOL=xxx DSN= xxx
   FCO111I FROM PDSU INDD=INDD1 VOL=xx DSN=xxx
   FCO710A SYNADAF DATA - 618F,D,INDD1
,UNKNOWN,WRNG.LEN.RECORD,087800,BSAM
FCO702A DSN IN ERROR = xxx
FCO701A DDNAME INDD1 PERMANENT I/O ERROR WHEN READING UNLOADED DATASET
BLOCK 1

The first message FCO710A says there is more information in FCO700A.

The second message FCO701A says it's trying to read from the unloaded
dataset.

Q). Can I use IEBCOPY to copy a flat file to a PDS?

Q). I am running a REXX exec using IEBCOPY. Would you recommend a
different approach for my REXX exec?

  Thank you, Dave

If the description of failure is the above, then the specified

Using NOSCRATCH and then manually cleaning the leftovers is my last

user/catalog/system error.

I'll probably end up using that though, thank you for the suggestions.

increase the value of this variable.

Here are the instructions from the z/OS 2.1 ESP:

 1. Go to 7.3 and enter L ZVERMOD and note the value. Exit back to
primary menu.
 2. Invoke ISPCCONF using TSO ISPCCONF or from Option 6. Hopefully you
already have a keyfile.
 3. Select Option 1. Create/Modify Settings and Regenerate Keyword File.
 4. Select Option 4. Change the Sitewide Defaults Version Level number to
be at least ONE higher than the value noted in Step 1.
 5. Page down and change the value of MAXIMUM SCROLL VALUE and ALSO set
RESET SCROLL VALUES on with a / in the input field.
 6. PF3 and PF3 again to show an edit screen. At this point I would use
the find command to check for uncommented RESET keywords that might cause
unwanted changes.
7. PF3 and use Option 4 to compile the configuration load module. Make
this available to all ISPF users and restart your ISPF session.
8. Go to 7.3 and verify ZVERMOD has changed and then retry your scroll
request.

Here we go again.

We're getting:

   .

GIM69217ITHE LEVEL OF PROGRAM GIMJVCLT (36.17) IS NOT COMPATIBLE
WITH THE LEVEL OF THE SMP/E CALLING PROGRAM GIMSMP
(36.38).

Our sysprog has opened an issue with IBM.

We have no Java involvement in our payload program. It's my understanding
that Java is used only to calculate the SHA-1 checksum during RECEIVE
FROMNETWORK if crypto hardware is unavailable (it isn't). Verification of
that checksum is mentioned in the Commands manual under FROMNETWORK,
not under FROMNTS. We have DDDEF for SMPJHOME, not for SMPCPATH.
I don't find GIMJVCLT under the SMPJHOME hierarchy (but I'm not very good
at opening jars).

What's happening?

SYSMSGS says:
SMPCPATH SMPCPATH NODDF
SMPJHOME SMPJHOME PATH'/usr/lpp/java/J6.0.1/'

(my SMPNTS is a symlink. I notice that SYSMSGS identifies the PATHHFS
as the filesystem containing the symlink, not the filesystem containing
the SMPNTS directory. I wonder it's optimal not to resolve the path?)

Thanks,
gil

An unsupported undocumented option for the current TRSMAIN is adding the

Hello,

I am performing a unters for a Rel file using TRSMAIN. Unfortunately it
is
failing due to insufficient allocation during temporary dataset creation.
Are there any parameter within TRSMAIN step that can influence or create a
larger Temporary dataset.

Right now the RELFILE is sitting on Multi-vol(4 volumes), so its kind of
pretty bigger one.

Any suggestions or advise would be helpful for me to unpack the RELFILE.

Yes. When you request to add capacity on the HMC you are presented with a

Technical question about CoD:

I have 706 machine with CoD contract.
That means I can temporarily upgrade it do 712 (up to 100% actually, 712
is 100%, nevermind).
Of course the more CPs activated the more money is to paid.

On resourcelink I generate an Order - electronic record. I specify order
details - how many MSU I want to add.
I choose one of listed values, minimum is single CP, maximum is last
value below 100%.
Let's say I've chosen model 710 - 4 cp's more than permanently.

Now the question: is it possible to order 4-CP worth Order and then
activate it partially?

The following scenarion comes to mind: I ordered 4 CPs due to money
limits. In case of need I activated one CP of the 4 in the Order. Then -
if it's still to little - I activate another one, etc.

To be honest I did it once, many years ago, and I added then 18 CPs,
however I didn't have to pay for it ;-)

I managed to get a working console session on the 2074.
When I try to configure PCOM, I get the 2074 index message.

When I try to vary the device (V xxx, console) i get:

What can the reason for this be?
How do I fix it.

The machine is a 2074 model 3
The computer is a 9672-R14

Re: NFS automount help requested

2013-07-23 Thread Alan Field
Got the answer from IBM.

With Automount, you can not have an automount controlled directory
under another automount controlled directory.

and

You can mount to /u/wsbinds and in /u/cics you
can put a symlink to /u/wsbinds. For example
ln -s /u/wsbinds /u/cics/wsbinds
That will let you reference the path /u/cics/wsbinds and be redirected
to /u/wsbinds automatically.

I have an NFS Server task running on LPAR A.

I export a directory /u/cics/wsbinds.

On LPAR B I can issue a mount for this directory using

MOUNT FILESYSTEM(wsbinds) +
  TYPE(NFS)+
  MOUNTPOINT('/u/cics/wsbinds')+
  MODE(RDWR) +
  parm('mvssysa:/u/cics/wsbinds')

 and access the files within.

But I really want this to be automounted on LPAR B.

On LPAR B I have a /u/cics/wsbinds defined.

I update my u.map file with

name cics/wsbinds
type NFS
mode RDWR
filesystemwsbinds
parm mvssysa:/u/cics/wsbinds
duration nolimit

and restart automount.

No matter what I try I cannot get this to automount.

Given the MOUNT command works I suspect I have some confusion over the
u.map definitions but hours of googling haven't resulted in anything
useful.

I've poked around and not found a concise explanation. We have an LPAR
whose name needs to change. Everything else in the IODF is fine, just a
name problem. Current hardware and software.
I changed the name in HCD. When I tried to ACTIVATE the new IODF, it
choked on the name mismatch. I gather that I can first rename to '*', then

rename for real in two successive IODFs. If I do that, do I preserve all
original chpid and device connections? I don't want to start over from
scratch when only the name is wrong.

Re: CFRM Policy with new CPU

2013-05-02 Thread Alan Field
Yes, you will need new names for the CFs. We just upgraded our processors
and we had CF1 and CF2, In the new processors I defined CF3 and CF4 so we
are now running with CFs named CF3 and CF4 only.

Note though. In the IOCDS I named the NEW CF lpars CF1 and CF2 s so that
in the CFRM policy CF3 runs in lpar CF1 etc.

I'm thinking at some point I'll change the CFRM policy back to CF1 and CF2
to match the LPAR names.

Yes - you need to make this change on your running system before you IPL

Agree with this.

Given a recent experience I'd also very specifically also update the

This is more a safety measure than anything else - I had a bad experience

just updating a CFRM policy and now am pretty gun-shy about updates like

However we have routinely had non connected CF's in our production

 Subject: SDSF DA command

At a previous job when I did a DA the results were equivalent to a DA
OSTC. Now
when I do a DA it is equivalent to DA OJOB. I'm at a class this week
where DA is
 equivalent to DA OSTC.

How do I set DA to default to OSTC. Google and the SDF manual haven't
been
much
 help.

 Thanks
