I have tried everything I can find and all my reports start at 12:01:00 and end at 23:59:00. What am I missing? The times when counters should be reset in PerfKit are defined by arguments of the command 'FC MONCOLL RESET ...'. Entering the command without further arguments will tell you what your current settings are, and my guess is you have defined a reset at noon. Note that each automated 'print' request (i.e. P-suffix after the time) will automatically reset the corresponding counters, i.e. it will become the start of a new reporting period unless it is superseded by a later explicit 'hh:mm:ssR_P' reset specification. For automatic resetting at 00:01 and printing of reports at 23:59 you'd need just the statement 'FC MONCOLL RESET 00:01:00R_P 23:59:00P' Eginhard Jaeger ella for Spam Control has removed 3853 VSE-List messages and set aside 2172 VM-List for meYou can use it too - and it's FREE!www.ellaforspam.com

Re: shutting down a linux guest on VM problem
IIRC, you also have to make sure that you have set up inittab to handle the signals propagated to Linux by VM. Something like: ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -h now Could that be the culprit? Jon snip We are Suse9 sp3+(2.6...252) This should *definitely* handle signals! Did SuSE turn this OFF in their kernel, for reasons unknown? Anyone got any light to shed? VSE lock file question
We are in the process of migrating to a new CPU. The applications people want to run their test VSE on the new box concurrently with all the other systems still running on the old box. After some discussion it was decided that we would just put the VSE lock file on a physical DASD volume. (Currently it is on a VM VDISK). However, I remembered a problem I had with a new external lock file in a multiple CPU and VSE environment 24 years ago. The problem was the result of one of the CPUs having more than one path to the DASD where the lock file resided. Is this still a problem? Each CPU here has at least 4 paths to all the DASD. Thanks in advance, Don P.S. I subscribe in digest mode, so please reply directly as well as to the list.

I have in my sles 9 sp3 inittab: ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -r -t 4 now but it is the same in my sles 9 sp1 guest It did work but I guessing it's the guest not playing well with others. Change the -r to -h. The -r tells it to reboot. The application is going to combine several NOMAD databases into 1 NOMAD database. We are only going to setup mod 9s for this purpose. Does z/VM 5.2 support PAV? Well, sort of. CMS doesn't know much about it. It's mostly for guest use AFAICT. If you're going to replace the mod 3's one for one with mod 9s, then it shouldn't get any worse than it is. As someone mentioned, just don't put *other* stuff on the disks that may change the access patterns.

Cant use VDISK with a system on a separate processor. Or at least not until VM gets XMS and CF support (somewhere over the rainbowmusic swells) David Boyes Sine Nomine Associates . Why wouldn't you use VDISK for the LOCK file? You could see a performance hit with regular DASD. Steve G. Former VSE sys.prog and missing it.
