9:00 AM Meeting Opening - Bill Munson

9:15 AM Reed Mullen -IBM- z/VM Platform Update: Introducing z/VM V5.3

Catch the latest breaking news on z/VM product enhancements.
This session will provide you a high-level overview of the
  new z/VM Version 5.3 product announcement. z/VM V5.3 offers
new, leading-edge virtualization capabilities and a pricing
model that will help enterprises more easily exploit the on
demand capabilities of IBM System z virtualization technology.

10:15 Am Coffee Break

10:30 AM Shari Killion -MAINSTAR- Managing Multiple LINUX's on z/VM

Read her article in the March/April issue of IBM Systems Magazine !

When you run Linux as a guest of z/VM, the power and resources
of the mainframe are utilized as needed, so you dont have to
purchase and maintain separate dedicated hardware for each Linux
server. Instead, hundreds of thousands of instances can run on just
one z/VM host. Unfortunately, repeatedly creating, configuring and
updating Linux instances manually can be tedious and time
consuming, and all too often, those who are asked to perform these
tasks are Linux staff with limited z/VM experience or z/VM staff
 with limited Linux experience.

With automated instance management, a non-Linux or non-z/VM
expert can easily create, configure, and maintain many virtual
Linux instances under z/VM. You can also:
- Reduce management costs by eliminating physical footprints
- Eliminate errors with accurate configuration of Linux
  instances
- Centrally view and manage all Linux instances
- Provide efficient and automated resource utilization

11:30 AM LUNCH Break

Lunch will be provided by MVMUA

1:00 PM Bill Bitner IBM z/VM Performance Update

While z/VM has an outstanding reputation for scaling and
performance management, performance enhancements continue to be
added to the system. This presentation will review some of the
improvements from z/VM 5.2.0, some items added via the service
stream since GA, and a sneak peek at the kind of improvements
planned for the future release, z/VM 5.3.0. These topics will
include memory management, PAV support, and additional synergy
with Linux guests. A brief overview will also be given of the
relationship between Performance Toolkit for VM and OMEGAMON XE.

2:00 PM Coffee Break

2:15 PM Eric Schuler-Dalverny IBI - WEBFocus

3:15 PM Coffee Break

3:30 PM Will Roden - IBM - Using and exploiting Secure Socket Layer

SSL improvements for z/VM Version 5.3.

Several interesting and useful additions were made to the SSL
server in 5.3. This presentation will discuss the enhancements
and put them into the context of the existing SSL server.
We will also discuss how SMTP, FTP, and Telnet use the new
 facility.

4:30 PM Questions and Answers and the IBM give away's.

5:00 PM thank you very much.

There's one included with CMS Make.
It is designed to be 100% compatible with *some*
of the options of the GNU version. The REXX code checks
how it was invoked and so can also be named CURL.

Seeing some of the other traffic in this thread,
the question of HTTPS comes up: Mine doesn't do that (yet).

Unfortunately the sysprog who added this code to our copy of charlott has

retired and I have not had to change it in a LOONNN time. I have not
had
any problem trying to reach any https site. I thought it was a set of
updates to the charlott source execs (EXECUPDT comes to mind, but I would

have to look further). But if you would like, I can VMARC my working copy

In the meantime, I will look at some archived files to see if I can find

This looks interesting but I'm at a loss how to install it. It would seem

Also, if James is gone, how do we enable 128bit which I believe is the

SSL for CHARLOTTE

Retrieve the SSL updates fromhere.

SSL VMARC - Last updated Apr 24, 2000.

The source to the RXSSL module is now available. It can downloaded from h
ere.

RXSSL VMARC - Last updated Apr 24, 2000.

This set of updates is to the RXSSL module. The routines in RXSSL can now
 be
called from within RXSSL. The goal is to create an SSL API. Eventually
everything in the SSLREXX routine will be replaced by calls to this API.

These updates add SSL support to Charlotte. Only export grade encryption
is
supported. Stronger, 128 bit, encryption is available if you live in the
US
or Canada. To get it send email to James Johnson stating you are a legal
resident of the US or Canada.

Hopfully I can verify this from the email headers. You will be sent
instructions on how to enable strong encryption.

It does time stamp of the file as well, and when talking to a CMS web

There is the SETDATE exec that comes with z/VM (4.4 at least). On

work fine and the exec does CSL calls.
I use it quite a bit when I use xedit to paste console logs together
and then put the timestamps back in the chronological order the logs
occurred. (Thanks Jim!). It has a HELPCMS file too.

http calls, not ftp which VMFTP does a grand job with. WebRover is built to

Do you truly need http or https, or is FTP sufficient from CMS. There's a
terrific VMFTP package which permits automation/scripting FTP logon, GETs,

directly to VM without having to go through a PC. For example, from

enter something like: FTP2_isv_name / added_operands

More specifically, when FTPing to CA, I'd enter: FTP2CA / issue_number-01
The FTP2CA EXEC does some prep-work (e.g PACKing the file to be sent),
then calls the FTP2CA VMFTP macro which does the FTP-related logon, CD, PUT,
etc. But the VMFTP package is the key enabler.

Sort of, yes. WebRover is wget-like in that it goes and grabs the content
via a CMS Pipeline, then you do whatever you want with the content. It
relies on Charlotte's http engine to do that heavy lifting.

There is also work in progress to build a curl/wget CMS widget. I can tag
the fellow that has been working on it to see where it stands, but WebRover
is available.

Unless someone knows of another web location that has it available, I can
make it available on the TRACK web site for download. The version I have is

Advantages of FIXDATE as oppsoed to native use of DMSPLU:

  - You don't get an ABEND when trying to update a file on a R/O disk
(DMSPLU was fixed in newer CMS levels)
  - You get an errormsg instead of only RC 24 when something fails
  - One can use = signs to keep date or time as it currently is
  - One can use an ISODATE as date input (really nice when running
  FIXDATE from inside FILELIST (ISODATE)
  - With SHORTDATE: no need to pass leading 0's in date or time

But indeed, for use inside another EXEC, DMSPLU is as good (or even better)
as my FIXDATE EXEC,(better as you avoid a dependance).

If you like CSL: there is a routine available, but I don't know its name.

so it woul be easier to use the DMSPLU in direct.

The only problem was with it it hasnt got help (with running without parameter)
or HELP DMSPLU

Btw DMSPLU is a compiled exec too or compiled from other source? If it is a
compiled exec, is there anywhere the source of it? Just because im curious.

thanks for fast help!

Yes, it's an undocumented internal CMS function. We found that it is a
bit picky about the arguments and maybe Kris' code relaxes some of
those.

I noticed in http://www.mail-archive.com/vmesa-l@listserv.uark.edu/msg01891.html
that I used
dateconvert w8 iso full to get the required date format for DMSPLU.

Don't complain. Before DMSPLU we had to do ugly tricks with COPYFILE
and OLDDATE to give one file the time stamp of another one :-)

It working file the exec.

the important line is here:
'DMSPLU 'rfn rft rfm rdate rtime
so it woul be easier to use the DMSPLU in direct.
