Re: Tape Manager for z/VM

2010-06-12 Thread Howard Rifkind
Mark, I know this reply is late on but if you are using the z/VM Backup/Restore
product from IBM and can't find some messages call IBM support.

This product is from Rocket software and generally IBM passes the problem back
to Rocket for answers.

I had some of the same problems with their software but did get answers from
Rocket.

Hope this not helps...somewhat.

Its not documented, but it looks like it means you get to debug the
socket connection between you and z/OS.

Re: Tape Manager for z/VM

2010-06-07 Thread Mark Pace
Yep, I have NJE/TCPIP connect between these 2.
The problem seems to be one side (z/OS wants a host name) the z/VM side
wants IP addresses. I have 2 connections, 1 a public IP address going over
the OSA, and a private address that goes over Hipersockets. I wanted to use
the Hipersockets and put those IP addresses in the config, but on the z/OS
side I filled in the host name, and it seems to have bound itself to the
Public IP address.

So change z/VM to point at the Public IP addresses seems to have fixed the
problem.

But seriously, why the heck are there no messages and codes? I get an
documented message from VM and nothing what so ever on the z/OS side.

EUMTAP0288I RMM request 16 sent - awaiting reply.
EUMTAP0260E Request 16 returned RC 12 - RMM command failed.
 EUMTAP0292I RMM command request 16 failed - RC 36.

 VMT021I - RMMCMD RMMcmd(TAPELIB QRY ALL ),rc(-1)

All the RC 36 says is that the RMM command failed. I have no idea what
the
VMT021I is trying to tell me.

It seems the RMMCMD failed with RC=-1 which resulted in the remote RMM
request failing with RC 12 which causes the command to fail with RC 36.
Have you given the Tape Manager RMM agent all needed STGADMIN
authorizations?

I recommend that you contact the Support Center to discuss these issues.

Mark,
EAGRTPRC is part of the rexx compiler package. Do you have the runtime
for the compiler installed? DMSRTPRC is a subset of EAGRTPRC and is
intended to allow the IBM supplied compiled execs on the S-Disk to run.

Section 5.2 of the Tape Manager program directory indicates that you must
have either the REXX compiler RTL or the IBM Alternate Library,
downloadable from
http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/rexx/rexxzseries/index.html.

I don't have the REXX compiler package, at least not that I know of. I
don't recall seeing the REXX compiler run time as a prereq for Tape
Manager.

Hmmm.

Then unless a subset of EAGRTPRC is included with Tape Manager and you
didn't install it, you will have to use the uncompiled versions of the
Tape Manager rexx execs.
