Re: [IceHorses] Today's Quotes
Thank you Laree. I love the Davis quote. We once took care of a little boy who was severely brain injured and in a way that left him, according to his doctors, irritable. Not irritable in a cranky way, but just edgy and unhappy. He didn't walk or speak or see. All his needs had to be met for caregivers. He cried a lot and didn't sleep well. I took him and our daughter Brenda to a farm day put on by a local farmer for school children. They had ponies in a riding ring, an activity that the normally buoyant Brenda hated. We decided to try to put David up on a pony. He began his ride sort of slumped over and wobbly, but before he had made a circuit of the ring, he was sitting up tall with a huge grin on his face. It was a sight to bring tears to anyone who loves horses and what they bring to us. Nancy
[IceHorses] Today's Quotes
This one is meant to be humerous - don't try this at home - "It takes a great deal of physical courage to ride a horse. This, however, I have. I get it at about forty cents a flask, and take as required." - Stephen Leacock, "Refelections on Riding", Literary Lapses and this is for Nancy and all you other wonderful people who participate in riding therapy programs - "I saw a child who couldn't walk, sit on a horse and laugh and talk...I saw a child who could only crawl, mount a horse and sit up tall...I saw a child born into strife, take up and hold the reins of life...And that same child was heard to say, thank you God for showing me the way." - John Anthony Davis -- Laree "When you're young and you fall off a horse, you may break something. [IceHorses] Today's quotes
I don't think these quotes are exactly what Judy had in mind when she mentioned this - I think she was looking for stuff to generate more discussion - but I have collected them over the years so I thought everyone (or some) might enjoy them. SO --- "Take most people, they're crazy about cars. I'd rather have a goddam horse. A horse is at least human, for godsake" - Holden Caulifield, in JD Salingers's The Catcher in the Rye "Horses change lives. They give our young people confidence and self esteem. They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls - they give us hope" - Toni Robinson -- Laree What a horse does under compulsion is done without understanding, and there is no beauty in it either, any more than if one should whip or spur a dancer. -Xenophon
[IceHorses] Today's quotes
"There is something about riding down the street on a prancing horse that makes you feel like something, even when you ain't a thing" - Will Rogers "Remember that the most important gait of the hunter is the halt" - William P. Recently I had an email from a gal who has a friend with an Icelandic. She has always wanted an Icelandic, but now that she knows her friend's horse, she had changed her mind. She said that the horse is reserved, doesn't quite like people. I told her to come and see my horses! That the horses do not have to be like that; and that it was my opinion that the particular horse, knowing where it came from, was made that way. It would just take a little work to open the horse up and it would probably be more friendly and enjoy seeing her. Judy http://icehorses.net http://clickryder.com
Re: [IceHorses] Today's quotes
Oh no! I must have schizophrenia. Of course, a friend who has a sister with that diagnosis, said the decor of our home suggested the same. We have one very reactive horse that moves like an equine ballerina and over-reacts to life's littlest adventures, another phlegmatic clumbsy gelding with the disposition of a saint, a lazy Icelandic mare and an energetic/sweet/willing Icelandic mare. It's me! Nancy
