Thank you, it seems that these new windows clients have fixed a very annoying
bug for us: horribly long startup time, where the startup of ifolder would
block everything else. That's no longer a problem, and we're very happy to
see that.

However, we did notice something after an upgrade of ifolder server from 3.7.x
to the more recent 3.8 pre-releases: our windows clients claim that: 'new
release 3.8 is available, would you like to upgrade?'. Selecting 'yes' makes
the window go away, but nothing happens afterwards. Restarting the client
repeats the issue.

This seems to impact both 3.7.2 clients and these new pre-3.8 ones.

Should I be submitting this as a bug report?

Dominik,

Not really , its not a BUG . I believe you are using a pre release server [
from Build Service ] which has version 3.8 in all the version.config files .
Hence you are getting this message on the clients. Just change the
version.config / unix-version.config and mac-version.config files on the server
. Change the value to 3.7.2 from 3.8.0.0 . These files are located in
/usr/lib/simias/web/update/ .

A Detailed info on how upgrades work and how to modify the files are uploaded
to wiki on the community site.

Mahabaleshwar,

The issue i can see here is that users have no idea when to expect
updates (or updated builds). Would be nice if there is a page explaining
release strategy and versioning scheme used or even add it to a FAQ
page. :)

Cross compiling is possible. Some projects actually have windows
binaries available

More information :

Not sure if this is suitable for iFolder.

There seems to be some confusing naming convention.

The newly updated clients are labeled 3.7.2 beta 4, while ifolder.com/download
lists 3.7.3 beta 2 [which are very old].

The way and timing of version number updates followed for iFolder are slightly
different(we update the version numbers at the end and not in the beginning).
We intend to change this going forward.

As per my understanding that is the reason why you are observing difference in
version numbers.
As such the link "3.7.3 Beta 2 x64" form ifolder.com/download page points to,
"3.7.2 Beta2" clients available at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ifolder3/files/iFolder%20Clients.

Is this a mistake, or 3.7.3 tree never took off?
3.7.3 never happened and does not exist. After 3.7.2 it is only 3.8.0.0.
It looks like, before the official version number update people referred to the

the current release as 3.7.3 and that is not correct.

Hello,
First of all, big thank you to everybody involved with iFolder: great work.
We've been impressed with the maturity of this product and its core
functionality.

Having said that, I'd like to bring a few issues that I think are
important,

especially in light of the new release right around the corner. I'll try to
split off those concerns into different e-mails, rather than overcrowding a
single thread.

In this particular e-mail I'd like to concentrate on the subject of testing
releases for iFolder client and server. It seems that unless one is a
developer, being able to test what's in the works is a bit hindered.

Until recently, the only place one could find testing opensuse packages was
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Mono:/UIA:/iFolder/MonoOpenSUSE_11.1

Seems that now we have a new repo in build services:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ifolder:/

Yes above is correct, this is setup recently and going forward you will
find all latest updates here.

What about macosx and windows clients? There haven't been any more beta
clients since 3.7.3 beta2, which was out in June.

Even though we are almost at the stages of next release, let me check if
we can make

RC builds for MAC and windows clients available today.

We'd love to help by testing newer releases, unfortunately lack of
packages is
making it harder. What are the chances of making those available before
final

release?

Thanks!

I'm biased towards a time based release (similar to gnome - 6 month cycle ) .

Re: [Ifolder-dev] preparing for 3.8 release - availability of release candidates

2009-10-29 Thread Brad Rupp

For what it is worth, I second this request.

Regards,

Brad

Hello,
First of all, big thank you to everybody involved with iFolder: great work.
We've been impressed with the maturity of this product and its core
functionality.

Having said that, I'd like to bring a few issues that I think are important,
especially in light of the new release right around the corner. I'll try to
split off those concerns into different e-mails, rather than overcrowding a
single thread.

In this particular e-mail I'd like to concentrate on the subject of testing
releases for iFolder client and server. It seems that unless one is a
developer, being able to test what's in the works is a bit hindered.

Until recently, the only place one could find testing opensuse packages was
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Mono:/UIA:/iFolder/MonoOpenSUSE_11.1

Seems that now we have a new repo in build services:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ifolder:/

What about macosx and windows clients? There haven't been any more beta
clients since 3.7.3 beta2, which was out in June.

We'd love to help by testing newer releases, unfortunately lack of packages is
making it harder. What are the chances of making those available before final
release?

Thanks!
