starts the sound server. I am not sure which wm are you using. It
looks like sound server issue.

I believe choosing an editor is a matter of taste. Each one has its
own pluses and minuses. I would suggest you to try Emacs, Vim, Eclipse
(IDE), etc and then decide which one is comfortable for you.
Personally I use emacs which is more than an editor. I use it as
Programming Environment, Personal Information Manager (TODO,
Appointments, Time Tracker), Mail Reader, sometimes internet
browsing. Ever since I got introduced to emacs and learned GNU keys, I
never looked back.

Did you see the content of the error file. It looks like raw_input() is
sending the prompt string to stderr. But still it waits for the user
input.

So may be one of the solutions could be

import sys
print "Test Program"
sys.stdout.write('Enter Your name: ')
name = raw_input()
print name

The best place to ask for help regarding this is the users forum which

May be you can search the forum initially to see if someone faced this

Example:

apt-show-versions -p autoconf -a

This lists the PIDs. But I am looking for the number that is equivalent

This is the best http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/, I came
across. But there might be others. Keep looking. Most other documents
available online are brief. Also there is this book
http://www.amazon.com/Pulling-Strings-Puppet-Configuration-Management/dp/1590599780.

And http://forge.puppetlabs.com/ is an excellent place to look for
reusable snippets. Personally I like this resource
https://github.com/jwiegley/puppet-config.

There will be initial blocks but once you overcome that puppet is an
excellent tool.

How did you generate wvdial.conf?

Did you run 'sudo wvdialconf' after plugging in the device?

Try this

/sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1c9e product=0x9605

Let me know if that works. If it does, then you can add an entry in udev

I think loading usbserial module for this particular product id and
vendor id combination might work.

lsusb will give you product id and vendor id.

sudo /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=id product=id

See whether Network Manager detects the modem after this.

I would try the following:

1. Plug in the device
2. Check 'dmesg | tail', it should have usb-storage related entry.
3. Load the usbserial module using the command in the previous mail.
4. Check 'dmesg | tail', it should have usbserial related entry.
5. Run 'sudo wvdialconf' and see whether it detects a proper modem.

Did you see the OpenStack contact[1] page? I strongly feel that, it is
the right place.

Before starting to do a project in OpenStack, you need to understand
what OpenStack is. I would start here [2].

There are several components in OpenStack. May be you should concentrate
on your strengths and choose the right one.

Since you said you have only system administration experience, you
should quickly learn Python programming language [3]. This will be very
useful.

Do your home work before asking. Explain your strengths and ask how you
can help them.
