[ilugd] Call for Participation in Fedora Project Day at FOSS.in 2007
It gives me pleasure to say that the Fedora Project's application [1] to host a Project Day at FOSS.in 2007 [2] has been accepted by the organizers. However we now have to carry the burden of ensuring that we produce many Indian contributors to Fedora in particular and FOSS in general. This means that our sessions have to be structured in such a way that it is easy for people to get in at the ground floor and the take the elevator up. Or in other words we should have enough low hanging fruits to encourage newer contributors. We are looking for capable community members who are willing to step up and help us achieve our objective. A possible agenda [3] and a probable list of workshops [4] is now being chalked out. If you desire to participate -- give talks or hold workshops -- irrespective of whether they are present in [3] [4] or not, we would encourage you to let us know what you have in mind. We want the agenda and workshops to reflect the preferences of the community. Please remember that our focus is on encouraging new contributors from India, and not on addressing the end-users. However that will not prohibit foreign nationals from giving talks or holding workshops as long they help us in bootstrapping members of the audience into contributors. So lets get the dice rolling... Happy hacking, Debarshi (Fedora Project Day co-proposer) [1] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FOSSin [2] http://foss.in/2007 [3] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FOSSin#head-60e6645a6a578d58f1e146a95147a061c4009859 [4] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FOSSin#head-a7640f2cdbfe84e210e71e8166a0296f17d6b653 -- GPG key ID: 63D4A5A7 Key server: pgp.mit.edu ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Next Event: http://freed.in - September 28-29, 2007 Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

Re: [ilugd] [OT]Wireless Router
Also, he paid for the Vista along with his PC. The philosophy is not to force and convince people for using Linux/Ubuntu. If a user can afford hefty sum for the Operating System, he can use that. Linux and FOSS started for free availablity of OS and software, and share the knowledge. There is really no agenda of forcing or convincing people by this mean. Many of us have had to buy laptops with Microsoft OSs simply because there were very limited options where you could buy the hardware without them. The fact that the machine came pre-installed with a windows OS does not prove anything. My machine came pre-installed with Windows. Sudev has already written about his machine. But I don't have too much disagreement with your overall point.
