[ilugd] Interesting and simple project

I was looking around for some simple time sheet application and found
http://sillaj.sourceforge.net/
Neat and interesting application which fits my need. Just thought will
share with all of you.

PS: I know most of people do not follow email niceties (mostly they
are not aware) but if you follow bottom post/in-line post style of
email conversations it becomes a whole lot easier to carry on
meaningful dialogue and you can snip out what is not meaningful too.
Most people just hit reply button and top post leaving prior message
appended uselessly at bottom. See if you can adopt this style and
persuade others. In case you are already doing this . great,
spread the message.

Well, one of the options is not to use the Ipod because of its
restrictive nature!! Other devices like those from Creative, Cowon
and even Mio are linux-friendly and are well supported in Amarok (in
 addition to Rhythmbox)

currently my thinking too.
how the music streams through the air to your two biological and
analog ears does not matter, so long as you get juiced up with
good-enough quality. check this 'roll your own ipod (sort of)'
approach, based on a tip kishore bhargava gave me last year:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/niyam/2570134330/

the catch, it needs a power-adaptor, but you can get a
battery-adaptor, which is a bit clunky.
the good stuff: drag and drop any media file with freedom.

I use an ipod (the older video ipod) with the free software from
  rockbox. T[snip]

yup, so while you bypass ipod's restrictive iTunes, and enjoy your
ogg, apple uses your dollars to develop and strengthen its DRM-based
devices, software, and services.

Completely agree. Let's bycott Apple completely. And I trust you also will
not endorse Macs as apesome hardware-software integration anymore ;-)

I wanted a new lappie, instead of going for an 'iSucker', I choose Dell XPS
1330. Know what in US, it comes preloaded with Ubuntu. Here I will wipe
'Widows Vishtha[1]' and install Ubuntu Intrepid. Currently I use GTKpod and
GPIXpod to sync my iPod, which I, unfortunately, bought before I set out on
Foss journey.

And you know what the name of my iPod is Ubuntu, with a big Ubuntu Logo at
the backside.

Apple just sucks.

He said in his blog that they should increase the icandy element in Ubuntu
so as to leave Macs behind. There is nothing in Ubuntu that is inspired by
the iSucker. Ubuntu is plain Debian, with some fixes and a bit bleeding
edge.

errr... if advocates like you will start buying iSuckers what will
happen to the rest of the lot? How can we ask to stay away from non-free

further? I will never endorse you buying an Apple. Check config. They are

so *when* i *have* to use, should i give the money to apple or microsoft?
tough choice, i'd rather choose the one who does less damage to foss.

secondly, there are only a very handful on this list who are currently
100% foss like me. most do have dual-boot or have access to
proprietary systems. i have none.
i am considering downgrading myself to
'boot-to-get-that-damn-thing-working' mode, before i boot back to

2008-10-25 Thread Angad Singh
This is great stuff. I tried it out with my home DSL connection. I created a
channel and streamed my webcam and mic to their IceCast 2 server. It works
like a charm! Their wiki suggests using VisionAir on Windows (
http://giss.tv/wiki/index.php/Streaming_Tools), but that is not able to
stream. I used VLC. You can ofcourse use Theory Streaming Studio on Linux.

For someone who would want to try it out with VLC, this is the stream output
MRL format that works (for video + audio):
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=theo,vb=128,scale=1,acodec=vorb,ab=128,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=shout,mux=ogg,dst=
source:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:8000/channelname.ogg}}

This is great for people who cannot afford to host a video streaming server
(with IceCast) of their own - since the bandwidth requirement makes that
kind of hosting costly - it's based on the giss.tv network, the concept is
awesome.

01. okay, even at EFY, we are not 100% foss-migrated. some pockets of

some of those already have workable solutions in foss, in contrast to

hearteningly, over the years at EFY, major chunks of processes have
