Re: [ilugd] drivers for broadcom bcm4312 802.11b/g(rev 01) on centOS
The following page has native Linux drivers that you can compile for the bcm43xx chipsets: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php Also, you could try using the drivers from this Feisty HowTo for ndiswrapper. They've sourced them from the Compaq website(step 2b for bcm4312 revision 01) and used cabextract. Or you could use the ZIP file here - http://uploading.com/files/VXHOYZLY/bcm4312rev01.zip.html On 30-Apr-09, at 5:30 AM, gurteshwar singh wrote: Hi, I am trying to configure wireless on my Dell inspiron 15 notebook using centOS. This may seem like a repost. I had asked this question about a month back but then i went home and had no wireless available so wasn't able to try any of the suggestions. As suggested by Raj and Karanbir I downloaded the driver for xp from the dell website and tried to install it using ndiswrapper. I unzipped the .exe and installed netathw.inf. ndiswrapper -l tells me invalid driver! I expected this since the dell website states that the xp driver applies to only the Wireless 1515 (11agn) WLAN half mini-card (Atheros). I have a Dell Wireless 1397 802.11b/g Half Mini Card. The driver for Vista seems to support this card. The problem now is that I am unable to extract the .inf (or anything else) from .exe provided for vista. I tried unzip, cabextract and even wine, but all failed. Any help would be appreciated. Freeware must not be confused with FOSS. Freeware simply means - does not require payment for use. Which is the case for Audacity. A few things I wish to point out regarding your take on my talk. From your post http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com/2009/02/27/freed-day-2/ The real story which he forgot was that the year after, ERNET was up and shell accounts were starting to give people which dried up the business of BBS overtime. Not something I forgot but was actually aware of. It would've made sense to include, if I was giving an elaborate account of the business history of BBS overtime. My whole point was how people got together on the boards(i cant call it the internet :-)) for speaking against something they didn't like or thought was unfair and how it actually resulted in action on ground. My not including or as you say forgetting what happened to the BBS business after that does not dispute my claim in any way. Also, I thought it to be irrelevant to the given context. His 2 second plug www.indiasopinion.com as his take on where this can be taken forward. This is completely misunderstood. Maybe I did not do well enough to get my point across clearly to you. If you asked Kishore, I think he would recall that after the first volunteer meet, I had quite a detailed discussion with him regarding my talk. I even asked him if I should completely remove any mention of my 2 second plug as the idea was to bring forward the research that showed how the information we seek online is directly proportional to the opinions we form and communicate. And how these two also happen to be the primary activities of all users. My effort was to pitch these ideas and research to an audience with way more advanced technical skills than mine, so that they could try and decide how it can be taken forward. Sadly, as of now my skills are limited to system/network administration. I am not(yet) a developer. The only little contributions I could make were via Wordpress, which I had been checking out for some time. Hence, my 2 second plug which I think is by no means conclusive. A lot can and I think needs to be done to take this forward. My take, watch out for wordpress+buddypress, that should be a killer thing to look at ;) Great. Thanks for letting me know of this. Looks very good. Perhaps if it could be integrated via a facebook app, the problem of first establishing a large user base would diminish. Re: [ilugd] Blog post about Freed.in Day 1
Even if you don't want to talk about the license you can at least give credit to the person(with the name being linked to the flickr photo page) who has uploaded the photographs, something like Uploaded by: XYZ or Photo credit: XYZ. Of course, if you were using your own photos then this discussion isn't of much importance. But apparently, that isn't the case. The freed.in flickr pool has three main contributors afai could look linux lingam, ramky and one more person (IIRC) . Let's say hypothetically if I took all the three photographs (randomly) which were from a pool (like the freed.in flickr pool) wouldn't it be tedious saying this one is from this person and the CC license and whatever rather than just giving link to the freed.in pool (as attribution) . Also the authors may choose to have any of the six or remixed versions of those licenses.
