Re: [ilugd] Domain name problem
Dear Abhinav, I have seen your posting on ILUGD and also checked your web sites i.e. www.rkgec.com and rkgec.com While www.rkgec.com opened correctly there was a problem with rkgec.com, I have gone through your configuration too and found a few things #61623; Your domain is actually having address and IP as ns1.rkgec.com and 61.17.123.186 respectively . #61623; www.rkgec.com is actually a CNAME (Cannonical NAME) to ns1.rkgec.com #61623; I also found that the machine www.rkgec.com (61.17.123.186) is the only m/c with all the following services running on it - DNS, Web, Mail #61623; For mailing purpose you have use root@ rkgec.com. on these findings I had a few recommendations for you as #61623; Redfine your servers with the service it will be running and load, this would mean separate m/c with suitable configurations(as per server and load) as in my view this will help you in securing and management of these servers. #61623; Your config should be like www 86352INCNAMErkgec.com. rkgec.com. 86352INA61.17.123.186 ns1.rkgec.com. 86352INA61.17.123.186 rkgec.com. 86352INMX 10 ns1.rkgec.com rkgec.com. 86352INNS ns1.rkgec.com. this could also be done differently, also time parameter could be tuned as per your requirement. Further in case if you go with my suggestion for separate servers then this entry would be like . www 86352INCNAMErkgec.com. rkgec.com. 86352INA61.17.123.186 mail86352INMX 10 Mail Server IP rkgec.com. 86352INNS ns1.rkgec.com ns1.rkgec.com 86352INADNS Server IP Here your mail server will be mail.rkgec.com, web server will be rkgec.com/ www.rkgec.com. and name server will be ns1.rkgec.com #61623; Change your mail address for the reports to some other e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED] etc. Further I have written a small article on DNS which could be of some help, see at http://fedoranews.org/mediawiki/index.php/How_to_configure_DNS_Server In case if you still need my help then shoot your queries to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Regards, Bimal Pandit NOTE:- The above response is as per my understanding and knowledge, I would appreciate you people in case you correct me if I am wrong at any point. ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

[ilugd] Solution - MS-TNEF WINMAIL.DAT Attachments and LINUX
MS-TNEF WINMAIL.DAT Attachments and LINUX - Dear All, Today(19/09/05) I received a mail from a user with a call that he has received a mail and is unable to open it in linux, the mail has winmail.dat as attachement, I googled and found the following useful sites and solution... ABOUT WINMAIL - Mail programs in the Microsoft Exchange family, which includes Windows Messaging, Outlook97, Outlook98 and Outlook2000+, will include a TNEF (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format) attachment named WINMAIL.DAT when the sender selects, or defaults to, RTF (Rich Text Format). If the sender is using MIME formatting, this attachment will have Content-Type: application/ms-tnef. The TNEF attachment includes a Rich Text Format (e.g. bold, underline, fonts) version of the plain text message. If the sender has included any attachments (e.g. pictures, spreadsheets, programs), they will be embedded within the TNEF attachment and not as separate attachments. Most other mail programs do not know how to handle the TNEF attachments and so Exchange family users should avoid using RTF unless they know that the recipient has a compatible program. The sender can control the use of RTF on a recipient by recipient basis. However, if sending via a Microsoft Exchange server, the server can override the sender's settings. In this case the Exchange administrator will need to make changes on the server. For more information on this, see the following articles:- -How Message Formats Affect Internet Mail, HOWTO: Force a Particular Internet Encoding by Using MAPI with Exchange, -XCLN: Sending Messages In Rich-Text Format, -XFOR: Preventing WINMAIL.DAT Sent to Internet Users, Sending RTF with Attachment as MIME Loses Attachment, -XADM: POP3 Users may not Receive an Attachment if Part of DL, -XFOR: CR Receives Rich Text Format Information Unexpectedly, Winmail.dat attachments are included in received e-mail messages in Outlook 2002 or 2003 . after going through all these, the solution I found is... SOLUTION -save the winmail.dat attachement in some directory, for e.g. I am taking here /home/bimal/test as my directory, I saved winmail.dat file over here. -installed a package tnef-1.3.3-1.1.fc3.rf.i386.rpm on my Fedora Core 3 -enter into the test directory and did [EMAIL PROTECTED] test]$ tnef winmail.dat this will create a file Document.pdf in the same directory, now use some pdf reader/viewer to see/print the content. I used acroread, kpdf and GNOME pdf viewer but unfortunately xpdf did'nt worked for me!! that's all is required, for further info do man tnef. hope that this will help a few people. regards, Bimal Pandit NOTE:- 1) My system is Fedora Core 3, check these packages as per your OS/flavour/version. 2) http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm 3) http://www.ust.hk/itsc/email/tips/tnef/ ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/ Event: Freedel 2005, 17th 18th September, 2005 - http://freedel.in

[ilugd] Web browser plugin problem.
Dear all, i am facing a peculiar problem as -- i am trying to open a website www.besindia.com using opera browser (opera 7.22 also tried with opera 7.54) on redhat 9, for this it requires application/x-java_vm to show the running BSE figures, i installed j2re-1.4.2-05 and did as per the messages/info from net i.e. ln -sf /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/opera/plugins/ now this site did accepted it but said(message) applet crashes and trying to debug it has given me ... [EMAIL PROTECTED] bimal]$ opera --debugjava --debugplugin opera: [java] There seems to be a preloaded version of Xt. There is a workaround for this problem in the opera startup script. If that workaround fails, opera will most likely crash every time it tries to use Java. The workaround seems to be working. Technical explanation: There is a problem with the order of loading Xt and Java. If Xt is loaded before libawt (part of Java), Java will crash when it tries to access the screen. The workaround is based on using LD_PRELOAD to load libawt.so first. opera: [java] The Java enable flag will not be reset because the OPERA_FORCE_JAVA_ENABLED environment variable has been defined. opera: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so opera: [plugin failed ] /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so, /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: PR_EnterMonitor opera: [plugin probing] /usr/local/Acrobat5/Browsers/intellinux/nppdf.so opera: [plugin banned ] /usr/local/netscape/plugins/libnullplugin.so opera: [plugin probing] /usr/local/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so opera: [plugin failed ] /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so, /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: PR_EnterMonitor opera: /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: PR_EnterMonitor opera: Could not initialize spell checker interface.
