[ilugd] FOSS/Hindi/Aliens/Ballu/Code/iLugd
Hi, I was not aware of the fact that my 'small' email(reply) will ignite a fire around the mailing-list...where we talk about 'FOSS'. I have looked into every response and would like to add 'something'. I don't know how this mail gonna be relevant to list/topic/FOSS etcetera. Lets talk about Hindi, first: I have completed my study up to 10th standard in 'Hindi only' and i had not seen a computer before/till 10th. After completion of my B.Tech in Computers, I didn't find any reason to code in 'Hindi'. May I be wrong? Well, the scenario says something else. I put my Linux machine at my home in a small 'village...where people know only Hindi'. Most of them had never seen computer before(like me). But when i told them in 'Hindi' how to operate, they were able to do small things like gaming, painting, music, etcetera. Some of them, even, didn't know to write their names in Hindi/English, but know very well how to put 'password' into machine. That shows how they people are compatible with 'technology'. I believe in the fact that a 'meduim' is always required to flow 'anything' (refer Einstein) . Here, the 'medium' is 'language' (either Hindi or English) and the 'matter' is 'technology'. So, I must say we should take these two things in two different ways. However I have no hard feeling towards 'Localization', in fact, I have been working on Urdu Localization(from JMI/Sarai). Now lets observe the facts: Case 1. When both medium and technology are in 'English'. (people are local) Work-done = work (to understand the medium) + work ( to understand the technology) Throughput = most/??? Time = lesser Case 2. When medium is 'local' and technology is in 'English'. (people are local) Work-done = work ( to understand the technology) Throughput = most/lesser Time = least Case 3. When both are 'local' Work-done = work (to convert the technology into 'local' medium) + work ( to understand the technology) Throughput = ???/most Time = most Note : Case '3' will behave like case '1' after some 'effort'. Here, No one can say 'this or that' is always towards in right direction. Thus, I think I can conclude that 'we' should think about the overall technological development to face the future problems/bugs. Thanks Regards, Devesh. P.S. : It will help us to cope with Aliens in future. ;) ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

Re: [ilugd] when your pc gets sick! (suggestions?)
If you have tried it, how many distributions can it handle? Does it take care of different versions of particular distributions? How well does it deal with different types of hardware and how does it do it? The work is still in progress including manual.(due to lack of (college)time i couldnt prepare good manual). Ya, I can say in this stage this is very beneficial for newbies. It only deals with the hardware which Fedora provides. I have tried this on my college lab and other computers and it worked fine. I just included Grub-installation scripts which install grub automatically(its very good for those students and newbies who even dont know what a bootloader is). :) I have written other scripts also but not included in this CD. hai guys, I tryed to live boot to F8-FEL but Buffer I/o error on device sr0,logical block 354510 pops out. I tryed google but they say its abt cdrom, damaged iso, i think thats not the problem. Also dre was a post to upgrade BIOS seems some what ok but i when tried on my frnds laptop and AMD64bit machine same error. And the same ISO working fine @ vmware5 . SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 21.. init[1]: segfault at 000b eip ..esp etc errors follows If any one has same exp pls post. -- Regards, Prasad.S.R Hi, I guess its your CD/DVD media problem. Take a new CD and burn the same image,it will work. (As you tried ISO with vmware). If it doesnt work mount the iso image and replace stage2.img with fresh one in images directory of that Live Cd/DVD. Re: [ilugd] proxy prob
hi all, i think you ppl cudnt understand the matter properly or i didnt describe what i wanted to do. Well, the issue is : I am currently working with cURL and PhP on my pc.If i use these scripts on my pc (localhost) these cURL fuctions require Internet Connection and for this internet connection , browser require proxy (server for my network). And, if i use proxy localhost would not work ( as it by-pass it). so in any case,*proxy auto-config* wudnt help me. another solution regarding this issue, simply i use any other host on net ...but i cudnt find any FREE web hosting server which supports CURL and php. If anyone knows such thing please post the links. and, if someone have tutorial for cURL please mail me. by the way, thanx. cheers, Devesh ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Next Event: http://freed.in - September 28-29, 2007 Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

I dont agree :) We work with Redhat people onsite ( in the UK ) and even on remote setups - and i can assure you, they are some of the best techies to have on your side when things break :) I don't know what how does it relevent of comparing a RHEL techies onsite and a RHEL support via call. As far as i know you are entitled to get telephonic support from Redhat once you have bought a license, getting a support onsite seems to be a special arrangement with Redhat. I am sorry if i could't understand its meaning. with the RHEL trial version and the subscription version ( specially during the trial period ). And I've never had more of an issue than just transferring the rhn entitlements over to new machines or new versions when they come out. It is more than one month now, IIRC redhat provided evaluation copy of RHEL which we used and provided our existining RHN account to get them under a single logon. That is also quite an interesting statement - SuSe has , by far, had the best support setup inhouse for years and years, I remember talking to people back in 2000 - 2001 and getting kernel patches out from them overnight to handle specific issues. While this has *significantly* gone down in recent years, its not really that bad, to be completely written off. And a lot of that talent has moved into VAR's and associated business post Novel, should you want, I am happy to put you in touch with some of them. shameless plug perhaps you need someone to come in and manage the setup for you ? if you let me know where you are based and what setup you have, I'd be happy to trot along with a quote /plug I believe it is a perception which get developed when you work with someone, I must admit i have been too much aggresive putting comments on SUSE support, I should have taken some more time to understand how they(novell network) work/responds. It was resolved painlessly. As far as the setups are concerned, No, We are not looking someone to manage them rather looking someone to give their setups ;) You will actually find that Gora's initial response was in your real interest - mailing lists are not a real substitute for a support contract - even when you might sometimes get a faster response here ( hey, IRC will beat mailing lists hands down on speed of response ) - but when you have a supported platform, your first call should always be to the people supporting it. Not only is it their responsibility, they will ( or should ) have a process-to-resolution recommendation / execution plan. Depending on the situation, not adhering to that p-2-r plan will invalidate your support even. btw, if you really are having so many issues with your support providers and having to live off the handholding and spoonfeeding in the lists, why bother paying redhat / suse / mandriva at all ? and go the CentOS route - You can bring in local
