really a Great idea to have next ILUG-Delhi meeting at IIT Delhi. till now
i have not been in any such meeting so i do not have much idea. you can
contact me regarding the organizing the meeting. I need few parameters that
what should you expect from venue? really this would encourage us a lot and
at the same time we can discuss that in what way we can collaborate.

 Hi,
Have been very busy the last few days, but here is a quick
 reply.

The setting up of a IIT-Delhi LUG sounds very good. As others
have also done, I would encourage you to work with ILUG-Delhi,
and other LUGs in the NCR region. ILUG-Delhi is actively
involved with people at JNU, and extending contacts with
IIT-Delhi would definitely be interesting. In fact, it might
not be a bad idea to have an ILUG-Delhi meeting at IIT, say
 next Sunday, the 27th.

 Gora

Nothing special needed for the venue. A room for some 20-30
people, preferably with a projector that can connect to a
computer, would suffice.

So, I propose that we plan to meet 2pm, Sun., Jan. 27th
somewhere at IIT. Please contact me off list with a phone

We need someone to volunteer to give a tech. talk. Also on
the agenda would be help in getting the IIT-Delhi LUG going,
and involvement in Freed.in 2008.

Yes, I am totally agree with Kenneth, It is a thing of surprise that very
few students knows and use Linux for their work. Here you cannot find
Barcamp style Workshops and Now (tooo late) our institute have set-up Squid
Proxies to improve the so called bad Hostel LANs. (main purpose of network
is to use DC++) You cannot find a repo or local mirrors of Linux Distro. you
can assume negligible roal of student as Linux sysadmin for hostels and
Institute.

 Interesting.

Any idea why it has evolved that way?

in the old days, elite institutions were also the citadels of
idealism. Apparently not now. In fact the 'flame' is kept alight in
IITM and B by professors who are left over from the idealism of the
80s and 90s - very few students. Possibly all students in elite
institutions are already counting the obscenely high salaries they
are going to get, so have no time or inclination for anything else.

Any idea if it is the same in other countries?

no idea

We are at start-up stage and we have very few active members, but with-in 6
days the response is superb. ( It formed on 12 January). We are setting out
goals and trying to organize workshop and want to do many more similar
activities. Today i am setting up wikidot page so that we will articles and
workshop video on website in systemic manner. We have a vision to produce
many excellent Linux Users and Developers. (Currently , in IIT Delhi, Linux
 literary is very very poor).

Hi,
Have been very busy the last few days, but here is a quick

Regards,
Gora
