I would need to buy a KEY to fully run the App. I have emailed the Admin of the site asking if it will delete the Service Required message or will be able to bypass it. Haven't got a response yet. Julia, thank you for that link! I downloaded the iWIC App. I just heard from their Octoinkjet support just today that it would remove the error message. (Christmas holidays in the UK, too!) I bought the key for $10.00 and it eliminated the message and printer works again. YEAH! My husband wants to buy a new printer. He says this Epson is not really fixed since it needs new ink pads. So in another email, I'll ask for suggestions. I am in the market for a new inkjet all-in-one printer. I want one that has 1. Wireless and Ethernet (need to connect it to my iMac for scanning and also Airprint capable). 2. can print automatically on both sides 3. LED window 4. FAX capability doesn't matter; can do without it, actually Any recommendations or suggestions? jane -- -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: Printer advice
After being abused by Epson Printers for more than a decade, I switched to Canon and bought their top of the line MG8220 all-in-one a little over a year ago. It does all you are asking for, with ZERO hassle. I could not be happier. Of course, Canon discontinued it. You can still find them on Amazon for close to their original $299 list price. The best they currently offer, the MG7520, lists for 2/3 of that, and sells for half what the MG8220 is still selling for. Is it just as good? Reviews are very favorable. What the current model gives away is the ability to scan film (negatives and slide), and it uses an inferior CIS rather than a CCD scanning element. You would have to decide whether these premium features matter to you. I’ve had it for a couple of years now with no issues at all. I think their current iteration of the model is this one http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/us/en/pdp/printers/hp-photosmart-6520-e-all-in-one-printer I got mine at Costco on sale for $119 iirc; it uses separate color cartridges and Costco refills those cheaply as well. $10 per refill. It does AirPrint well, automatic double-sided on 8.5x11 paper. It will print 8.5x14 (although it’s not advertised to) but only one-sided. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: Printer advice
I’d like to redirect the question, if I may, to a good color printer that is NOT an all-in-one. I am a volunteer at my local community library. We have one Mac and a whole bunch of PCs. Getting them all on the same printer has been a hassle. But we’ve been using old tech. Now we need new tech. I don’t want a home device. I want a small office or large-office printer. All it needs is an ability to print from Ethernet, WAN and via Airport. Any recommendations? The people I’m around all like Epsons, and I’m saddened to learn, here, of the mostly negative rep Epson has. As I understand it, Epson has some of the lowest ink refill prices around… so cost of maintenance should be low. Please advise. twv -- -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. HP has some very nice color laser printers: http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/us/en/pdp/printers/hp-laserjet-pro-400-color-printer-m451dw We’ve had good luck with their products over the years…just never buy their low-end devices. Another brand we’ve had good luck with are Brother laser printers. Again, don’t buy the low end. For this level of use you really don’t want an inkjet. Laser printers are much costlier upfront, but much cheaper on a per-page cost. We had a HP5 workgroup winter that cost several hundred dollars to feed toner, but would print 10-30K pages on a toner set. Another thing to think of is Xerox’s solid pigment printers http://www.office.xerox.com/solid-ink/solid-ink-printers/enus.html they’re even cheaper per page than laser printers. Any recommendations? As I understand it, Epson has some of the lowest ink refill prices around… so cost of maintenance should be low. Epson inks are cheaper because the print head isn’t included. This means you don’t pay for a new one every time you change carts, on the other hand, this also means you don’t get a new print head every time you replace the cart…I’ve seen more Epson’s die over clogged or malfunctioning heads than any other reason. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs.
