If you don't know where exactly the button is, you could break something, or scratch the disk. I've never had much luck finding the button, and while some drives have the hidden button, some just don't. Sticking credit cards in won't work; when the drive pulls a CD or DVD in, it seats in on the spindle, and locks two arms around the CD, between it and the opening. Forcing these arms and/or forcing the CD off the spindle will probably damage the drive, so I would NOT recommend this method. If worst comes to worst and the drive won't eject, the best way is to take the top off of the optical drive, and pop the CD off the spindle. (Just like you would a tray-loading drive) As for how to determine if it has an Airport card, it should be easy; Just turn the little knob and open the RAM/Airport access panel. If there's an Airport card, you'll see it; if not, you won't. :) Watch the youtube video, although it could be more of the spindle retracting and the 'pusher' not pushing the disc out... -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: G3 Imac and OS X
Here is the breakdown for using XPostFacto: Use it to install Panther and up on Macs without USB ports and Use it to install Tiger on a Mac without FireWire (one of the slot- loaders without firewire is an exception though) I pulled the drive from my 333NHz tray loader and put it in my PowerMAc to install Tiger and then put it back in the iMac On Nov 22, 2009, at 9:34 AM, Bill Chapman wrote: Anyone know how to install OS 8.6 (yeah, I know) on a G3 iMac slot load 350MHz? Robert Esposito wrote: You do not need XPostFacto. You need the correct Firmware upgrade and then a clean install. I have successfully done tis to iMac G3 400MHz and Panther plus iMac G4 600MHz and Tiger. I don't like Tiger on a G3 iMac. It works but slower than I would like. Panther seems faster for the G3 iMac but you give up many Tiger upgrades for the improved performance that Panther gives on the G3. Re: Tiger install on Lime (333 MHz) iMac
I just installed Tiger on my Blueberry iMac by pulling its hard drive, putting it in my PowerMac, installing Tiger, and then putting the hard drive back in. Re: Display shows vertical line
Try plugging in an external display. If it doesn't have a yellow line, its the LCD in the iMac. If it does, the GPU is failing and the logic board will need replaced. And since--of course--it's just beyond the three- year Apple Care term, what are my options for where to get it looked at and how much might this cost me? Re: Tiger install on Lime (333 MHz) iMac
Tray Loaders can only boot from the hard drive and the CD drive. That's why i didn't suggest it. Anyway, just pull the drive and put it in a PowerPC computer that can boot from DVD and go from there. (If you do intel, it will either A)not boot the DVD or B) install an intel-specific version of OSX) On Nov 12, 2009, at 4:05 PM, Clark Martin wrote: Gary Fortman wrote: Do you have a way to install Tiger without the CDs? Pull the HD and attach it to a Mac that can run Tiger and has a DVD drive and do the install there. Another possibility is to use a USB DVD drive but that is iffy. Only some Macs can boot from USB. I've had a slot loading iMac boot OS 9 from USB but not OS X. I don't know about a tray loader though.
