Errors when running cyrus
Hello, for every mail Cyrus Imap "recieves" (from smtp localhost), I get following errors: syslog: Jun 10 19:13:53 kaperfahrt lmtpd[952]: error sending to idled: 2 imapd.log (local6) Jun 10 20:19:49 kaperfahrt lmtpd[1164]: accepted connection Jun 10 20:19:49 kaperfahrt lmtpd[1164]: lmtp connection preauth'd as postman Jun 10 20:19:49 kaperfahrt lmtpd[1164]: error sending to idled: 2 sometime the error to idled is 0 or 1 insted of 2 mentioned above. anyone any idea what could have went wrong ? Besides that everything seems to work. Further, when starting up the imapd syslog reports: Jun 11 10:44:45 kaperfahrt master: unable to change limit of file descriptors available and messages: Jun 11 10:44:50 kaperfahrt ctl_deliver[144]: duplicate_prune: /var/imap/deliverdb/deliver-z.db: purged 0 out of 0 entries Jun 11 10:44:50 kaperfahrt master[116]: process 144 exited, status 0 The last one (duplicate/prune) get repeated quite a lot times, actually from deliver-a.db to deliver-z.db. For deliver-h.db, it purges 0 out of 16 entries, for deliver-r.db it purges 447 entries, though there are not nearly as many messages in roots inbox. "h" and "r" are the only active mailboxes right now. Anyway, probably this is a standartd behaviour. Just want to make sure. I am running a slackware-current box with postfix.
Restoring/Re-Inexing Mailboxes
Hello, I have deleted a subfolder of a mailbox using an imap client - which I have backed up before using plain tar. Now I try to restore the tarred mailbox, but somehow cyrus does not recognize it any more. So I guess I have missed to backup something from /var/imap (config directory). Still, is there a way to re-index a subfolder or the whole mailbox ? I tried to add user.test.subfolder to the test.seen file and I tried to re-create the subfolder using cyradm. Latter one brought back the folder (surprise ...) - but withouth the messages. Regards Klaus
vacation: multiline replies
Hi, We have one problem with vacation and websieve: Users set their vacation messages with websieve - the reply usually consists of several lines of text. The problem is: The reply mail shows all lines queezed in one, while the text looks OK in websieve. We use Cyrus 2.0.14 and websieve 0.59. Any ideas? -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Klaus Jähne Thinking Objects Software GmbH, Lilienthalstr. 2, 70825 Stuttgart, DE phone 49 711 88770 100, fax 449, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.to.com/ Linux without limits: http://linux.s390.org/

cyrus failover and reconstruct
We are going to set up a failover solution for a cyrus IMAP server with two machines and a shared disk array (which holds a journaling file system). Now I assume one machine has failed and the second one is taking over the file system - is it safe to start cyrus on the second machine immediately or must I run some command like reconstruct before to check cyrus' consistency? Or can I run reconstruct after Cyrus has started up? I suppose there other people on the list with a similar configuration, so there must be some experience... ? -- geetings, Klaus Jähne Thinking Objects Software GmbH, Lilienthalstr. 2, 70825 Stuttgart, DE phone 49 711 88770 400, fax 449, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.to.com/ Linux without limits: http://linux.s390.org/

Problem with ptloader and Novell Edirectory

Yep, but I already tried that, and it doesn't work. The Search gave back "Size limit exceeded". A user could be in more than one group, it works only with users just in one group. "ldap_member_method: filter" sets a size limit of 1 for the search. I'm using cyrus-imapd-2.3.7-1.1.el5 (Scientific Linux). Re: Problems with load balancing cluster on GFS
I'm seeing some weird behaviour with the pop3 daemon on a GFS HA cluster with load balancing. I would not advise running cyrus-imapd on top of GFS. GFS is even with the best tuning possible very slow regarding small files (the typical load type of a cyrus-imapd). GFS runs into heavy locking with that type of load. So don't do it. What I'm currently doing: I run on top of a RH Cluster (using Scientific Linux) virtual machines with XEN. rgmanager handles very well the failover of XEN instances. So I just run one VM with a cyrus-imapd. (this cluster handles all of my DMZ servers, e.g. it runs VM's for static webpages, typo3 and so on, currently around 15 VM's). The cluster is a 3 node setup with an SAN Storage. A Logical Volume is exported to the XEN VM, inside this Volume i create again a Volume Group. A Logical Volume is created for /var/spool/imap, which is formated just as ext3. There is no cluster locking necessary as just one virtual machine accesses this Volume. As the Volume Group is inside the VM, I can use Snapshots also (not possible on clvm). Current size of my Imap Server is 2500 users and currently 250 GByte of Mailboxes used (growing and growing). I don't see how to avoid a murder setup if you need more than one machine running cyrus-imapd in parallel. Cyrus shared folders
Hi, we are setting up a Cryus IMAP server (2.1.18 on Debian Sarge). Account management is done by "saslauthd -a pam" which gets its data from a mysql database (pam_mysql). This works fine - with this setup the mail users don't have to have a system account. Now we are looking for a way to set up shared folders and bulletin boards. However, as far as I can see, the Cyrus server reads the user-to-group relationship always from /etc/group. Is there a way to use the database for this purpose? If not, can the Cyrus server be run chrooted with its own /etc/group? Or is there any other workaround to avoid using /etc/group of the base system? I haven't read them all but perhaps you find somethinb usefil in these mails. Recommendations for Thunderbird settings when it hangs copying to "sent folder"
Hi, Cyrus 2.1.18 on Debian Sarge used mostly with Thunderbird 1.0.6 on Windows XP. One NAT router and an additional router / switch between the server and the TB clients. Occasionally (it appears that this happens usually after intensive use of the search function) the TB client hangs after sending out a mail with the message "copying to sent folder". It is not related to the size of the message. The message *is* sent out but then we have to restart the TB client. No chance to save the message in the IMAP sent folder. There are a few bug reports available on this but I haven't found a real solution so far. Does anybody use the combination of TB and Cyrus without problems? Could we use a sieve script to put a copy of each outgoing mail into the sent folder (instead of having the client do this)? Ken Murchison schrieb: This isn't a problem with Cyrus or TB, its a problem with your NAT router "closing" idle connections. In TB under the advanced server settings, try changing the number of cached connections to 0 or 1, and disable the use of the IDLE command. Thanks. Does setting the number of cached connections to 0 or 1 automatically disable the use of the IDLE command or is there any other setting involved? Re: Recommendations for Thunderbird settings when it hangs copying to "sent folder"
twk schrieb: Klaus, The way I solved this was by designating a specific folder to be my sent folder (in my case "out"), adding the "anyone p" privelege to the folder, then replacing the "save a copy" action with a BCC with plus addressing to the "out" folder ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). Then, a copy of the message is actually sent to the sent folder, which is not dependent on the copy action in Thunderbird. I have used this for years and it works flawlessly 2 caveats : - our sendmail rules normalize everything to lower case, so the folder name must be all lower case letters - everything in the "out" folder appears as a unread message. I occasionally select all the messages and mark them as read. Tom, thanks. I'll try Ken's advise first and use your proposal if that won't help.
