We use 2 models. An NEC VT695 (No longer in production) and the Epson 84+. Like them both, no issues with either so far. (probably just jinxed myself). I do not think the speaker is loud enough and am looking for a better solution. Jeremy in FD and Mark in WC have a good solution that I wish to replicate. We are pretty much exclusively Optoma projectors throughout the district - as I upgrade from the mix and match I first started with. The more recent purchases I have made have an audio out port and we just use basic computer speakers in the classrooms, which have worked well thus far - we also still operate off of carts in the middle of the room. I am sure we'll make something work as we now begin the final phase of mounting projectors from the ceiling. at the time of bulb replacement. If you look at projectors side by side there is a visual difference between LCD and DLP. If you looked at each one separately I don't think I would be able to tell the difference. In previous years DLP a solid yellow block looked brown, but a year ago most DLP projectors moved to True Color that corrected that issue. If price was not an issue my recommendation for the last year is the Hitachi Ultra Close Focus projector. The projector is mounted 1-2 feet from the screen. The big benefit is that the teacher does not have to look into the projector while working at the screen. We have purchased mostly Epsons as of late (and haven't had problems). The key I have found is to standardize (district, ideally, but especially building wide). That has helped a lot! Also . . . I have learned to be VERY aware of all the input and output plugs (for all the other devices you'll ultimately have in the classroom eventually), and in regard to sound. Re: [info-tech] projectors
I always recommend purchasing from the AV Coop. Twice a year we Shoot-Out over 50 projectors so each projector has been looked at before it is put on the Coop catalog. IMHO: Currently DLP projectors have a significant lifetime savings vs LCD projectors as DLP has no filters to clean. LCD projectors recommend filter cleaning between 100-500 hours of use. This last shoot-out we are seeing a trend that LCD projectors are going to a one filter cleaning between bulb changes, and I expect that in the next year or two LCD projectors will only require a filter clean/change at the time of bulb replacement. If you look at projectors side by side there is a visual difference between LCD and DLP. If you looked at each one separately I don't think I would be able to tell the difference. Re: [info-tech] Projectors vs. LCD
We have projectors and by the Fall I will have 40 classrooms with projectors mounted to the ceiling. They get used constantly and there were many teachers that were upset that they had to wait a year to get theirs Since every classroom has a white board( not a Smartboard, but a board that is indeed white) They can project and annotate on the board, where as a TV would have to be mounted in such a way that would not block the chalkboard/whiteboard. As far as ease of use, you still have to teach the teachers how to mirror their screens to get them to work. (Unless you are a Apple district) Just my 2cents Karl H. RE: [info-tech] Projectors vs. LCD
We believe in the projector idea. We have people that use that same argument as well, until you permanently mount them in the classroom and they are always connected to the computer. Once we have done that, the teacher's do not have to worry about connecting them or the setup. They just turn them on and they work. As for the interactive portion that people have talked about, we have chosen to use the Qomo handheld wireless tablet instead of a whiteboard, smartboard or Mimio type device. For $325 or so, you get the same functionality, don't stare into the projector all day, get to walk around the room and the kids are not looking at my out of proportioned body while I am it the board demo'ing.
