RE: [info-tech] Group Policy Question

2010-01-05 Thread Murphy, Mark
Without taking away right click you are better off using the BGinfo
program. You set it so the desktop you want is the default on startup.
The kids will be able to change it, but after a reboot it will be back
to the default

We are looking for a way to stop students from changing
background on laptops using group policy. I found all the group policy
features but when a student finds a picture they like they still can
right click and set as desktop background. is there a way to stop that
even without having to disable right clicking feature.

I am starting with email late, but would throw in my two cents of a
skinny rabbit. (although extremely annoying) I also think sometimes,
in this case, because the kids know you are intent on making sure the
desktops stay the same and clean . . . they try harder to find ways
to mess with them. Once you don't let it bother you, it's not quite
as much fun for them to change. And I agree there are bigger issues
of teacher supervision in the lab and expectations . . . but I'll end
it there.

Well I know that there may be but do you know anyway of performing
this task. You're not helping me much Karl besides laughing and

I DeepFreeze my student PCs. They can change anything they want, but when the
computer is rebooted,
back to perfect. I wouldn't deploy student computers any other way.

It's not particularly helpful to tell people that the problem they are
trying to fix isn't that big of a deal and they are wasting their time.

I don't think any of us but Mitch know the full circumstances behind why
it's something they want to fix and honestly it doesn't really matter
why. Let's try to keep the responses constructive and helpful,
regardless of our personal feelings on if an issue is important or not.

I do this using a local policy on the XP machine. I then set the
background to a GIF on a server. The down side to this approach is that
if you install SP3 it will no longer work.
